I think they mean "Bar Rooster." In any event ... Stopped in here on New Year's Day around 8:30 and the place was dead. For that reason, I can say the service was great. Everyone must have been hung over from the night before. Or still sleeping. The die hard NYE revelers stay out until about 7 AM in this country. Not me. I can't hang. Overall, the cocktail menu has about 20 of the usual suspects: martini, strawberry daiquiri, mai tai, manhattan, sidecar, etc. No prices in the menu but expect to pay about 7,25 each. In other words, about half the price you'd pay at a cocktail bar in New York, so a major bargain for me. The sidecar was delicious, as was the whiskey sour. While not explicitly clear in the menu, this place will either create cocktails for you or let you create your own. Just ask. Desperately wanting paella across the street at La Barraca, the unoccupied waiter took the time to run across the street to check on availability, then again to make a reservation. Excellent customer service, though he was taken aback at my gesture of a small tip for his efforts, which he reluctantly accepted. Bottom line is there really aren't that many bars in Madrid dedicated specifically to cocktails, despite the size of the city. Consider this place a rarity. Other: Very classy decor. Cool music. Hidden away on the narrow Calle de la Reina in Chueca is Bar Cock, a Madrid institution since 1921. There's an old-fashioned men's club-style feel to the place, with its wooden columns, coffered ceilings, comfortable leather seating, ornate carved fireplace, and a classically beautiful bar - the kind of place you'd see in a period movie. While the setting may be old-school, the vibe is much more comfortable, making for a great place to start a night out on the town. What really impressed me involved my ordering something that wasn't on the cocktail menu: a classic drink called a boulevardier, a cousin of the negroni where bourbon is substituted for the gin. Normally, the server will say something like "a boule-what?" or the bartender will ask me how to prepare it, but not at Bar Cock - when I ordered it, the server smiled, signaling his approval by saying "Un clásico!" The drink was prepared perfectly, with the bourbon, vermouth, and Campari coming together to make a wonderfully smooth cocktail - the best boulevardier I've ever had, bar none. One of my friends was also quite pleased with his mai tai, and my other friend discovered a new favorite beer based on the server's recommendation. A bowl of potato chips was brought by with the first round of drinks, some very good green olives with the second. I love classic places like this, and Bar Cock was a great place for us to begin our last night in Madrid. If you're in the Chueca district, definitely check them out. ¡Salud! read more

We randomly saw this bar in the middle of the afternoon and stopped by because we had been walking around and wanted to sit down for a while. How lucky for us that it turned out to be a bar that makes some legitimate and classic cocktails. The decor was very classy, in that fine leather furniture and waiters wearing fitted vests kind of way - probably because that's exactly what they had. I ordered a negroni and it was served good and proper with ice cubes (instead of crushed ice) and a grapefruit peel. Maybe because we stopped in during the middle of the afternoon, but it was very quiet and relaxing there. I would definitely recommend Bar Cock if you need a cocktail at a relaxing atmosphere. read more

Was able to snag a small table for two and by the recommendation of the waiter - ordered the dry gin martini. It was seriously the best tasting martini I've ever had! My friend got their gin fizz and was happy with his order as well. Served with American style potato chips. Waiter was great, ambiance was great and had a good time having drinks and people watching in a beautiful atmosphere. read more

My husband is in love with prohibition style cocktails and this place has it. It's dark and manly in here (hence the bar name?) and I loved it. I felt classy and the bartenders will go out of their way to look up a drink recipe just to ensure you get your drink properly made! One of the few cocktail bars in Madrid. Great room. Will feel dated and way old school if you compare it to the mixology capitals of the world that is New York and London etc. So do yourself a favor, don't. I had a pina colada and they served me chips and olives and it was a lovely time. read more

After going to Parque Del Retiro and it being closed (anomaly- it's usually open) we decided to take advantage of the fact that we were on that side of town and walked to Bar Cock. We had read about it and knew it was a pricier, more touristy spot, but wanted to check it out. We were most pleasantly surprised! We got there around 6:30pm and it was mostly empty- got a great table and were promptly served by a very accommodating staff. Being that it was before 8pm, we got our drinks for €7.50 each (we read that the drink prices go up after 8pm to €11). We ordered a cosmopolitan and a Moscow Mule. Hands down, the Moscow Mule is the best I've ever had (fun fact: Moscow Mules were invented at the Cock 'n' Bull LA in 1941), it was tasty, without it being too syrupy/sweet and was garnished with a very spicy Chile de árbol, mint, cucumber and a dehydrated lemon wedge. Killer combo! The tastes played well off of each other! Besides that, the ambiance and decor were very nice. I don't know if I'd spend a whole night partying it up at this bar, but when I'm Madrid, I will definitely come for a nice midday/early evening Moscow Mule. We checked out Bar Cock during our recent trip to Madrid at the suggestion of our Airbnb host. Fun atmosphere with nice lighting and old wood furnishings and decor. Comfortable chairs. Menu consisted of speciality cocktails with a note that they would do anything by request. read more

Contrary to what you'll hear in the sticks, not all of us in San Francisco are gay. But I was guilty of the same mindset when I heard we were going to try this bar. Despite its name, it is not a bar where you'll find flaming homosexuals grinding to the pet shop boys. In fact it was quite the opposite when we rolled in there on a Tuesday at midnight. The place was brightly lit and had a scattering of loud college aged Americans who had turned the place into a mini meat market. We were shocked to find a frat bar in the middle of Madrid that we opted to leave and continue our search for the perfect Gin and Tonic at place a with a little more class. read more

After checking the website and seeing they open at 4 each day, we trudged through the rain and crowds on the Gran Via for 30 minutes -- only to find them closed at 6:30. One of the employees was emptying the trash when we arrived. We might have been forgiving if he'd said anything even approximating "sorry, we're not open yet". Instead, he dismissively pointed to their posted hours, which didn't match the website. It's not hard to update hours on a website -- but when you're this hip, apparently you don't have to bother to tell people when you're actually open. read more
