    Butter service

This was our best meal in Madrid. The service was excellent and the fish was perfectly cooked. I can't wait to visit again.

Our guide recommended El Paraguas to us. It was fantastic! The outdoor setting is very comfortable. The service was impeccable. We shared all the dishes, salad and two mains. Sadly, I only have one photo, 1/2 of the grilled veal tenderloin. The green salad was well dressed, fresh and crisp, butter lettuce, tomato carrot, onion. We split the Asturian stew, classic version. Wow, delicious, white beans, chorizo, sausage and pork in a tomato broth. We finished with sharing the veal. Tender, well seasoned, just terrific. If in Madrid, we highly recommend El Paraguas!

Usually this is 5/5 for me, yet this time something was off. Anyway the food and service were almost as great as usual, and ambiance m/decor is still beautiful. Sure it was one off and it sill usually keep being 5/5.

I would highly discourage anyone from eating at El Paraguas while visiting Madrid, despite the oddly high ratings. Clearly the customers who have reviewed this restaurant do not understand what good food actually tastes like. El Paraguas does serve some excellent scallops, and that's about the end of my compliments. The fish entrees are only decent, the appetizers are atrocious, and the sorbet arrives completely melted like it's a drink. Our confirmation email from the restaurant clearly stated that we were confirmed for 7:00 p.m., but upon our arrival they claimed our reservation was for 8:00 p.m. (even after showing them their own email). The hostess acted like she didn't enjoy working there anyway. Beyond paying high prices for mediocre food, the service is absolutely horrible! At least three waiters acted like they didn't really want to be there, and the service was a reflection of that. Patrons paying these prices deserve excellent service and that did not happen. Even from the beginning after being seated, we waited 30 minutes before anyone even arrived to take our order, and that should never happen in an upscale restaurant. The water glasses went empty at least six times, and that's a cardinal sin in a nice restaurant. Servers are typically trained not to let that happen. Eating became very uncomfortable with nothing to wash down the food. At other pricey restaurants in Spain, the water glasses didn't go empty even once. The wait staff speaks less English than our hotel housekeepers, so that was a struggle, and especially strange since there were predominantly Americans and Canadians in the restaurant. Just avoid this experience altogether and pick a different restaurant. It's our #1 disappointment of any restaurant in Europe!

Enjoying the elegant restaurant area in the back of the building.

The restaurant offers an elegant and formal ambience with a great atmosphere and professional and customer service driven professionals in the food industry. Furthermore, the food was delicious, on time and very well presented. Highly recommend it!

Maravilloso restaurante , su especialidad comida asturiana. El único problema para los que vivimos en USA es que no estamos acostumbrados que nos digan que tenemos que ir a las 2 horas. Así que no sobre mesa en este restaurante

Super elegant. The service is top notch. The atmosphere is elegant. The decor a mix of old and new. The fish from northern Spain, Asturias is called rapè was fabulous. The chips were yummy. The wine list is wonderful.

The terrace is so nice. The staff is friendly and the service is fast for madrid. Overall the food was good. They started off by giving us a Gazpacho de fresa: not my thing, I prefer the original flavor. Definitely try the mushroom appetizer, it was delicious ! The arroz negro is also very good. I would recommend this place for lunch and likely dinner. It is on the higher end side, plates ranging between 25-40 euros each. Only negative comment- The have put the menu codes on their hand sanitizer bottles. I absolutely hate this! The bottle at our table was leaking everywhere and it was very difficult for us to take a photo of the menu without getting liquid all over us.

Best food I have had in Madrid so far. Little bit on the expensive side. However, great attentive staff and a great decor!

Located just outside of Puerta de Sol. This is a great place to enjoy Espana tapas and a drink!…read more The tapa portions are very large: the small size anchovies, contains two pieces of bread with 5 white anchovy fillets, diced onions, green olives, drizzled with olive oil. For a savory entree, I recommend the oxtail stew: 10 pieces of delectable oxtails in a brown gravy sauce. This tasted more like a beef pot roast, rather than a tomato style gravy. The oxtails are paired with thick cut fries.

This spot was the one for our first Tapas dinner for this Madrid visit. Roomy inside with some…read moreoutdoor seating. Empty as we were early for dinner around 7 so we took a table outside. They do have a Sister location next door -difference is less Tapas and Paella is on the menu. We started with Sangria and the Alhambra house brew. The Beer was billed as an IPA but tasted more like an Ale-very good. The Sangria was a bit sweet and refreshing. Complimentary Manchego cheese was a nice touch. Our Server warned us that their Tapas are larger than the typical size and she wasn't kidding-more like Tapas on steroids. We started with the Goat Cheese with onion and blueberry sauce. I don't think I've had fried Goat cheese and this was delicious. Blueberry sauce takes it over the top. Tortilla Omelette (Spanish Omelette) was filled with eggs/onions-very good. Last Tapa was the Cured Iberian Loin. Again, big portion. The surprise was the flat chicken breast and peppers under the Loin. This one was ok. Decided to share the Rice with 1/2 Lobster. Sauce was tasty mixed with the Rice as well Lobster. Not much Lobster though. Service was excellent with our Server patiently answering all of our questions. They've been around for almost 100 years. Don't miss the Goat Cheese Tapa!
