Went to this spot twice in the past week and everything was surprising! The food, the service, the viber were all top-tier among the Middle Eastern restaurants I have tried in Atlanta. For food, I have tried complimentary Sabzi plate, Zafron Special, Grilled Chicken Wings, Khoresh Badenjoon and Lubia Polo. I will describe them detailly below. 1. Sabzi: sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, walnuts, herbs, feta. Served with perfectly baked Naan 2. Zafron Special: an interesting app with mashed eggplant, diced mango, chopped green onions, herbs, and chili oil. Had a refreshing heat and sweetness. Perhaps the spiciest dish I've ever had in Persian restaurants! 3. Wings: I have tried the wings in Delbar, Divan and Yalda before, but Zafron's were just next-level. Perfectly coated in Saffron marinade, nicely charred, amazingly crispy skin and juicy meat. The side sauce was sweet and slightly spicy, whcih paired well with the wings. 4. Khoresh Badenjoon: Basically beef, eggplant and tomato stew. Compared to the similar items in Rumi's, Delbar and Sufi's, this one has the boldest flavor. It does not have beans (so good for a FODMAP control diet) and used lots of dried limes and (whole) cardamoms, which created a very bright, sour base. Compared to Rumi's and Sufi's version, this one also had more, and larger chunks of beef, which gave more texture when you take a bite. The eggplant was delicious, but I wish it could be skin-on like the one in Delbar. 5. Lubia Polo: Basically green beans and diced beef cooked with rice. I only had Lubia Polo in Rumi's Sandy Springs before. In comparison, this one had more beef, and slightly less salty, but did not have as much tomato paste. **Note** the comparisons are only for the purpose of a clearer description of the dishes. For service, the waiting time for both food and check were reasonable, and the staff were all friendly. During my second visit my server gave me 0.5lb of baked naan and extra Sabzi when I asked for a to-go box for just the leftovers... For vibe, it was quieter than many other popular Persian restaurants (but I like more noise haha), and thus walk-ins are possible. The trees inside the restaurant were beautiful. In short, highly recommended. I will definitely visit again to discover more dishes! read more

Our group is always looking for diversification and trying to enjoy the variety of restaurants available in our neighborhood. Today (9/13) we came back to one of the restaurants that we used to frequently visit for lunch when it was called "Flavors" (now is Zafron). It was an amazing experience. The service was impeccable. The food was amazing. Yes, the kitchen was busy but the manager kept sending us small appetizers so we ended up being almost full before the main courses arrived. What makes this restaurant so special is that the portions are huge but the taste is so unique and flavorful that you cannot stop eating. Everything, the small appetizers, the eggplants, the salads, the various types of cabobs were just incredible. ...and finally, at the end-the chocolate cake which let me wish we could have more.. I said I wouldn't come back because my first experience wasn't very good, but I'm glad I gave them a second chance. We were greeted when we walked in the door and taken to our table immediately. The server came very shortly after and brought us sparkling water, on request. I can't remember the names of what we ordered, but we had the goat cheese and tomato that was warm, served with pistachios and olives. I believe this was the number one food of the evening and it was delicious! We also had the Zafron salad with the warm goat cheese and it was also delicious. The Smokey eggplant appetizer was made perfectly and the portion was larger than expected. My wife had a vegetarian dish, which was like a stew, and said she loved it. The chicken kabob that my daughter had looked great and I had the tenderloin for my entree which I thought was ok. For dessert we had the tiramisu and the chocolate cake. The tiramisu was only okay, but the chocolate cake was absolutely delicious. Overall, our food, especially the appetizers, was excellent. The service provided by Brandon was also excellent. Another great Persian restaurant find. This time was Zafron, located conveniently close to the Sandy Springs PAC. One huge plus- free parking out front! The inside was a calm vibe with good, but soft, music. Once we ordered, our service was speedy. We split the hummus appetizer which comes with warm pita and I had the shish kabob that is resting on pita and comes with rice. All were flavorful. Among the various Persian restaurants I've been to in ATL, this has to be least favorite. Taste of the main dishes was satisfactory but not amazing that I'd come back. Though the dessert of the Pistachio Roulade was very disappointing, and would not recommend. The service was decent, however after ordering it was difficult to get someone's attention. I went to Zafron for dinner. It's an authentic Persian restaurant. The ambiance is really amazing and romantic. Although the ambience is romantic, I would classify it as a casual dining establishment. People were wearing jeans. They start by giving you a complimentary appetizer, which includes cheese, tomato, walnuts, and 2 type of herbs with pita bread. We started with the wings and the baked goat milk feta cheese. The wings were very flavorful and they come with a spicy sauce. The baked goat milk feta cheese was one of my favorite items. It does come with a pistachio in it, so if you have a nut allergy please note that. The warm cheese paired with the pita was fantastic. For our cocktails, we ordered Watermelon Jalapeno Margarita and the old fashion. They were delicious. It was quite a wait for our entrees. The server said he put the order on hold instead of sending to the kitchen. For entrees, we ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and the Lamb kabob. I wasn't a fan of the dill rice, but if you like dill you will enjoy it. The lamb kabob had potential, but tasted very gamey. It's served with basmati rice with raisins in it. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate mousse and the ice cream sandwiches. The mousse was delicious, but I was not impressed with the ice cream sandwiches. It is always good not to over price maybe one or two dollars over what I would expect, but has been consistently tasty! Our group of four enjoyed Zafron Restaurant. This is a good, more casual and slightly more affordable alternative to popular Rumi's Kitchen, which is just a few blocks south on Roswell Road. Zafron serves Persian food. We heard good things about it, so we decided to check it out and left pleased. Zafron is located in a freestanding building across the street from Sandy Springs City Hall. It was previously known as Flavor Restaurant and years before that, Flavor Cafe Bakery. Flavor completed its rebrand as Zafron in March 2015. The restaurant has its own free dedicated parking lot. There are a couple other small businesses on-site, but the lot is mainly for Zafron customers. We visited for lunch on a Monday. The restaurant was busy, but not slammed. I got the feeling that a lot of locals like this place. I booked our group's reservations using OpenTable, which I like because of the dining points I can accumulate to redeem for restaurant discounts and Amazon gift cards. Resy and other booking platforms don't offer rewards for dining out. Inside, the dining room had nice, but not lavish, decor from floor to ceiling. We sat at one of several curved booths that ran down the center of the space. There were multiple seating areas including a fully-enclosed patio in the front and a semi-private large group table, next to some wine racks, in the back. This place appears equipped to handle big parties. There was also a bar, pastry display, and a small outdoor patio. The lunch menu, which is available weekdays only, had a good selection of dishes to choose from. They included several of the dinner and weekend staples like Lamb Kabob ($25 lunch, $32 dinner) and Zafron (Barg) Chicken ($14 lunch, $26 dinner). Exclusive to the lunch menu are the wraps ($12 each), where you can order a small variety of Zafron's meats in a wrap with veggies. That said, I think you can order off the dinner menu during a weekday lunch if you want. That's what I did because I wanted to try both the Tenderloin (Barg) Kabob ($20 lunch) and the Koobideh Kabob ($15 lunch). Our server told me I could get both if I ordered "Soltan's Feast," which is only available on the dinner menu. I actually got a lunch price for Soltan's Feast, $25 vs $35. I presume Zafron's portions are smaller at weekday lunch. Here's what we got: Starters * Mirza Ghasemi ($8) - smoky eggplant, tomato, onion, garlic, extra virgin olive oil * Muhammara (Hummus) ($6) - red bell pepper, garlic, cumin, walnut, extra virgin olive oil Entrees * Khoreshe Badenjoon ($12) - eggplant and tomato beef stew, subbed a veggie kabob for basmati rice (+$5) Feast * Chenjeh ($20) - prime sirloin kabob served with braised green beans in a tomato sauce mixed with basmati rice * Fire Roasted Salmon ($15) - marinated fresh salmon served on a bed of "zafron," fava beans, and dill rice * Soltan's Feast ($25) - combination of one Koobideh kabob (ground brisket) and one Tenderloin (Barg) charbroiled filet mignon kabob with smoked tomato and "zafron" basmati rice Everything that I tried was good. Our meal came with complimentary pita bread, fresh raw vegetables, feta cheese, and walnuts. The veggies included slices of radish, cucumber, and tomato, plus herbs like basil, mint, and tarragon. These were nice to munch on with our meal. All of the dishes were presented beautifully. Both of the starters were tasty. The Mirza Ghasemi was served in a cast-iron pan. The garlic was fried crisp. Both the Mirza Ghasemi and the Muhammara had nice texture and flavor. The Muhammara wasn't the best I've had, but it was still good. The Chenjeh and Soltan's Feast were yummy. The sirloin (Chenjeh) was a little too salty, but otherwise fine. My favorite was the Koobideh (ground brisket) Kabob. The meat was tender, moist, and flavorful. Really savory. In contrast, the Tenderloin (Barg) Kabob was somewhat dry. It tasted much better with a sauce. The Chenjeh came with a white sauce. I think it was a yogurt sauce, like tzatziki, but my wife doesn't think so (she's better at identifying foods/ingredients than me). Our table was also given a side of tangy sumac powder/spice. The various rice dishes that accompanied the meat and fish were appetizing and satisfying. I liked them a lot. The veggie kabob that we had subbed in for one of the rice sides was big, hearty, and impressive. It came stacked tall with charbroiled eggplant, squash, zucchini, mushroom, red bell pepper, and white onion. Unlike the meat kabobs, the veggie kabob was actually served on a thick metal skewer. The meat kabobs were served off-skewer (normal). Service was on point. Jannifer was our server and she was great. She was very nice and attentive. The other staff we interacted with (hostess, other server) were polite. Despite a busy weekday lunch service, our entire order came out in a reasonable amount of time. I would return. The business name "Zafron" is a play on saffron, the spice widely used in Persian cuisine. read more

Went here on a whim with my sisters since our brunch plans failed. This was recommended by her neighbor so we gave it a shot. They were pretty empty for Sunday lunch. The ambiance is definitely classy but we were all wearing jeans and felt like we fit in with the current diners. Dinner service might be a different vibe. We were seated right away. We ordered the Mirza Ghasemi as a starter. This was served with a basket full of pita and a plate of herbs, tomatoes, cucumber, cheese and walnuts. The dip itself was delightful and smoky. We LOVED that we got tons of pita though! For my entree, I ordered the vegetable kabob with the most delicious rice. Some veggie pieces weren't cooked as much as others but nevertheless delicious. My sister ordered the chicken tandoori and it was very flavorful and grilled to perfection. Then my other sister ordered the dolmen stuffed cabbage, which was also super flavorful. Lamb Chops - undercooked at a tough rare-midrare, strongly over seasoned with oregano and under seasoned with salt, skimpy portion for the price, and most disappointingly the rice tasted straight out of a rice cooker. The texture absolutely sucked. It tasted stale. Joojeh Kabob - overcooked and dry, small portion for the price, flavor was ok but again the rice epically failed. Beet salad - dressing sucked, but fresh and ok. With so many great options in the area like Rumi's Kitchen and Yalda, I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would come here and pay the same price for such subpar food. The check seemed big but what check isn't these days. We started with some wine. For appetizers, we got the hummus and the warm baked goat milk feta. It comes with warm and delicious pita bread! The hummus was so smooth and flavorful. We loved the flavor combination of the baked feta as well! It's a must order! For our entree, we split the lamb kabob. It was a ton of food! I've been to Zafron a few times for lunch. Zafron doesn't quite have the fanfare and glamor emanated by any of the Rumi's outposts, but for Persian/Iranian cuisine, it has always been a solid bet. For our most recent meal, we got the mirza ghasemi and muhammara to start. Both were excellent. Sometimes, because they are appetizers, it is easy to forget how filling they can be in their own, particularly when consumed with the bread and the complimentary sabzi. I particularly appreciated the presentation and taste of the two dishes. For entrees, we got the Zafron chicken and the khoresh karafs. The chicken was great as expected - well cooked and satisfying. The khoresh karafs was a vegetarian dish, and it was more of a risk given that it contained some ingredients that I didn't think would necessarily go well together (portobello mushroom, artichokes, etc.), but the waitress said it provided for some unique flavors and that it was "herbal" and "earthy." She was right. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Separately: If you're in the mood for some hot sauce, Zafron has its own homemade version...reminiscent of habanero. It is quite spicy, but if you are in the mood, ask for it! read more

We had a late dinner. Arrived 50-55 minutes before closing. Very suspicious about try new cuisine. Tried to order a drink to start and was told by the waiter, "Bartender is gone for the night". Not, "Sorry sir, the bartender has left for the night." I though his approach was rude and most restaurants make a good revenue from the bar. Maybe it was to close to closing time. We just ordered water. Waiter brought the water with no ice. My wife calmly explained, it was our appearance. She always looks beautiful but I was in shorts. Hmmm. I saw a gentleman explaining the different dish to another table and got his and asked about ordering a drink. He said he would see to it we got our drinks. When the waiter return, I asked him for some ice for the water and he told me that the manager would be making our drinks. Manager came back to check on us and explained the dishes we ordered. That's good service. The food was great. I still tipped 20%+ just because I know the waiter didn't expect it. read more

Zafron is a good Mediterranean (Persian) restaurant. My buddy and I came for lunch, busy for lunch time but not overcrowded. My order was Shish Kabob which was flavorful and perfectly spiced, and a side of rice. Generous portion too. My buddy had the flafel platter which he really enjoyed. We skipped appetizers today, but had more than enough food. Great service and not rushed. Nice atmosphere. The restaurant is located in busy area of Sandy Springs near Roswell Road and Johnson Ferry slightly OTP. Easy to spot as they have a big sign out front. Plenty of free parking. Worth a visit and will repeat. There are several other Persian restaurants nearby, which is good for us, as the competition makes all of them better. read more

Here's what we got: - Kashk Bademjoon ($8): this eggplant appetizer was delicious and is the reason I gave them 4 stars and not 3 - Arugula Salad ($8): fresh; large portion; very heavy on the beets - Koobideh Kabob ($19): the ground brisket had a really soft texture that was a little off-putting; I would not get this again - Tandori Chicken ($21): good - Shrimp Kabob ($31, even though on the menu it said $29): we got this because they were unfortunately out of the Fire Roasted Salmon; good, but for $31?! - Vegetarian Kabob ($16): good Overall, the food was decent. The portions were enough to fill us up, but not enough for leftovers, and for the dinner price, I would've expected leftovers. The prices for the lunch menu are much more reasonable. It was also disappointing that they have Falafel on their lunch menu but not on their dinner menu. I would try other (cheaper) Persian restaurants before I come back. read more

They also Definitely have the best lamb chops we have ever had. The dips and spreads are amazing, we are obsessed with the baked goat milk feta cheese! That is a must try. They have great cocktails as well. We were so impressed with how good everything was! So many great options, and thankfully the service is awesome and provided great recommendations. I previously came here on a botched 1st date but needless to say I left before ordering. While recently scrolling down my Instagram timeline one of the foodies I follow was raving about her experience at Zafron so I decided to give it a try. Due to covid I'm not really dining in restaurants these days so I called in to place a curbside pickup order. Located in Sandy Springs off of busy Roswell Rd in a plaza with ample parking. While I ordered to go I did pop in to pickup my food and the decor is gorgeous. The decor is very clean, beautiful, relaxing atmosphere good for a date night. Upon entering I was greeted by a woman who went to get my order. All staff in the restaurant were wearing masks and gloves. Homemade Falafel which is Garbanzo beans, tahini sauce, yogurt cucumber sauce, shirazi salad (Cucumbers, tomatoes, onion, parsley, with EVOO citrus dressing) and naan it was so good Vegetarian Kabob Seasonal mélange of produce, roasted over open fire, lentil and raisin rice so good Food was great will definitely be back hopefully for dine-in. read more

Upon walking into Zafron, I loved the decor with all of its flora and fauna. My friend and I were promptly seated for our 6pm reservation and perused the menu. We started with the Persian kiss cocktail and the watermelon jalapeño margarita, which had a nice presentation but was light on the liquor. Our waiter brought us bread with zabzi complimentary. The bread was hard, stale and crusty and the zabzi was a small portion compared to other Persian restaurants. The menu offerings included hummus, kashk badenjoon, chicken and beef kabobs with assorted rices and more. We ordered all of the above to share. The food was not as fragrant as I would have liked. The rice had an oddly watery taste and texture and I don't think it was basmati rice as advertised. The zafron chicken had a nice zesty lime flavor and the beef was average. We finished off the dinner with the pistachio roulade, which was lacking flavor. Overall, give it a chance and see for yourself.
