Ordered a number of items to go, recently . One of which was brussel sprouts. My wife and I got very ill. Today I went in the restaurant and spoke to the manager who said he can't do anything for me. How disappointing, picked up a $58 order. I explained that he just lost a customer. Talk about terrible customer service, that say's it all. It is very nice to have a restaurant that is this good in the Bonsall area. The menu is extensive and we have not tried anything that we did not like. The house salad is my favorite. Wine and Craft Beer are available. Prices are very reasonable. It is nice to see that the Owner is engaged and it pays off. The staff are very friendly and seem to like their jobs. The only down side is the noise level (probably because the ceilings are high). Only other recommendation would be, if you are playing the news station make it a politically neutral station and turn on the closed caption when the volume is off. read more

I've been there three times so far, and we will be going back soon. There is an eclectic menu including a decent-sized Hawaiian menu. I haven't had anything yet that I didn't think was good. We've been trying to support our local businesses during the pandemic. Today we came here for breakfast and we were disappointed. The food was just OK but the biggest issue was ONLY one staff member was wearing a mask. Really? They're not even trying to make it safe for patrons. 2 or 3 parties entering the café were masked but no wait staff, hostess, or bar tenders were masked. Probably 12 people working and no mask. This is unacceptable and violates county, state, and federal rules now in place. Our server was great but also not masked. No thank you. We will likely not return. read more

I love the food here! It's got a bit of a Hawaiian twist style to some of their dishes. They have poke bowls, fish, beef, chicken, and I think (don't quote me) they have vegetarian options. If you like calamari, their squid and the sauce they serve with it are better than most places. If you're in the area during breakfast they also serve that. A couple of my favorite things for breakfast from here are their eggs Benedict and the Monte Cristo omelet. That omelet is taken to the next level if you ask them to throw on some avocado (pro tip). read more

This is a great spot for date night or a group night out, especially if you come for the early bird/happy hour specials. Everything I've had on the menu is good, if you are here for the early bird specials the salmon with the lemon caper sauce is excellent. I like to get the sushi combo, it's a specialty roll with two nigiri so you can enjoy a little sushi treat without breaking the bank. My last visit I had a really tasty margarita on the rocks, it was tangy and not too sweet. read more

Nice American cafe style food, everything you'd expect and a few unexpected taste treats (such as fresh sushi!). Their hamburgers and Cobb salad are particularly good. The restaurant is clean, comfortable with lots of natural light, patio dining is also very enjoyable. Plenty of parking. I originally gave Z Cafe 4 stars, which I mentioned at dinner with my family, everyone (they have all eaten there many times) strongly feel Z Cafe deserves 5 stars. I came here on my birthday and was very disappointed. The hostess was so sweet but misquoted the wait time by quite a bit. My twin toddlers were hungry, so this was not good. Once seated, boy, our waitress (whose name appeared as Krisly on the receipt, not sure if typo) could not have been less friendly. She didn't even acknowledge my adorable babies which was a big strike. Food was fine, not great. Atmosphere was strange. I have nothing against old people, but man, this was geezer central!! It was a very hot day (end of August) and there was no a/c either! I don't think I'll be back, but who knows, maybe...the outside patio looked pretty. Decided to come here on New Years Day at around 11:20am. We were told the wait time for a party of 6 would be around 15 minutes. Which was fine, considering it is New Year's Day & a lot of other places are closed. We were finally seated on the patio at a picnic style table with the sun hitting us. It didn't bother us too much, but that quickly went downhill when the heaters were turned on. I understand having to accommodate other customers needs, but putting the heater right next to our table when you can clearly see the sun blazing on us is ridiculous. Our utensils had old food stuck on them, & the waitress I believe her name was Viviana (that's the name on the receipt) looked frustrated when I asked her for replacements. Long story short the service was awful, it took forever for food/bills to come out & food was whatever. Spent almost 2 hours at this place, & most of it was just sitting around waiting. Wouldn't recommend to anyone when there's better places around. read more

Came in for dinner on a Saturday night and got so lucky with 2 seats at the bar. Brenna took AMAZING care of us as it was our first time(not the last!) and she seemed to run the show. And seamlessly at that. We were all over the menu with a few sushi rolls, Mac and Cheetos, and a ramen bowl. Sat at the bar (just me). I politely waited for one of the three people behind the bar to notice me or even say hello. After about 5 minutes, a woman looked at me and asked if I needed anything. I said a menu and a table setting would be nice. Ordered a beer, which took another 5 minutes for another person to pour. Got the mahi mahi Hawaiian bowl with the sweet sauce on the side. It states it contains seasonal vegetables but what it really contains are a few limp sad terribly overcooked pieces of broccoli and a few carrots. Pretty much frozen vegetables steamed to oblivion. A ton of white rice, and strange steaks of what I would assume was Mahi. Nothing about this meal seemed fresh or tempting to eat but I was starving so I went for it. I was quite disappointed with my food and service. There were what seemed to be regulars at the bar and they appeared to be getting great service. Have been to this restaurant many times and always great food! Yes, sometimes you have to wait, but that would be an indication they are serving food people like! Great hamburgers and I've had their salmon and their breakfasts,,,,,,really good! Tonight was burger night and they are ALWAYS busy with a long wait (it's worth it!). Our server Leila was The VERY BEST! We were fortunate to get her last Wednesday as well and although this place is hopping with people and food, she makes you feel as if you are the only one she is serving. I was able to catch Mike, the son of the owner, to let him know that her service was above and beyond on such a busy night. Mike was very professional and personable and really appreciated hearing about his staff. This is my favorite restsurant since moving to Fallbrook a year ago. If you are on the 76, turn on Misdion and go into the River Village. Z Cafe has phenomenal breakfasts until 3 when its Happy Hour starts. Great craft beers compliment starters like sushi or flatbread or try the signature burgers, sandwiches or Hawaiian plates. The servers are attentive and sweet and quick! They are open 365 days a year with reasonably priced food and drinks. Love this place. read more

Food is really good. Only negative is if you order online, it says they will email or text you your order number. Then they will again email or text when your order is ready. They don't do any of that. So you have no idea when your order is ready. We picked up our food and it was cold. read more

Wow!!! I've lived here since 2000 and hadn't been to this place until a coupla days ago. Holy Cow!!!! What a gem. The ambience is cool and hip. The location is surprising. My wife got the best steak salad I've ever seen or tasted. Fantastic! I got the halibut special. The fish was phenomenal but the pairing with mashed potatoes and Mediterranean veggies was off putting. Didn't quite pair well enough for my taste. Maybe some quinoa, rice pilaf, or lentils. The sweet potato fries were spot on. Desert was good with triple chocolate cake and white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. We loved it and will be back. The staff was really good and attentive without being overbearing. Kudos. So, went again on May 6th and ordered the steak salad. It certainly was not the same as the first time. Not sure if it was just a different chef or prep person, but it was not nearly as good as the first time. It's a bummer cuz we talked up this salad to our friends on how incredible this salad was.
