Stopped in for late night drinks after dinner. The bar is absolutely gorgeous, which is what you expect from The Peninsula. The service was great and drinks were very good. I ordered a drink that was not on the menu and was pleasantly surprised at the price. I was expecting $20-30, but it was far less. I'd suggest trying drinks that aren't listed or things suggested by the bartenders if you can't choose anything from the menu. The music was okay, but seemed to fade into the background. The DJ just didn't seem to add anything to the ambiance. We went out on the rooftop, but most of the seats were covered as it rained earlier in the day. The fire pits/tables also were not turned on, which was a bummer. You'd think the bar would wipe down the outdoor seating and turn the fire on after the rain cleared out. My only negative comment was the bartenders' lack of knowledge about drinks and inability to make certain speciality drinks. It was a cool summer day and I wanted a Spanish coffee or anything warm. When I asked the bartender if he could make it, he looked at me as if I was speaking Spanish and then asked me what was in it. Tip; if I have to tell you what's in it then you don't know how to make a Spanish coffee. ‍ I would go back, simply for the ambiance and the lighting in the bathroom . read more

All I can say THIS IS A MUST PLACE TO GO TO!!!!!!! Best service Best drinks Best rooftop I will come back again to not only have a cocktail or two but to try some of their food choices!!! YOU REALLY HAVE TO EXPERIENCE THIS ROOFTOP!!!!! You will love it --I PROMISE U WILL!!!! read more

I am so sorry to say this was a big disappointment. I ordered a Diet Coke. It tasted terrible. Checked the expiration. Expired in 2017. Yuck. Asked for an iced tea with no lemon. It had not one, but two slices of lemon and no offer of any type of sweetener. Never again did our server stop by to check on us. read more

Nearly impossible to find inside the hotel. Very confusing. Some more signs would have helped. Decent, strong drink, and of course very expensive with the Peninsula name and downtown location, but the drink was about as strong as two so that made up for it. The fellow patrons on a Saturday night were a range of ages and all down to Earth looking, no one snooty. Nice night view of the buildings. And those free olives? I have NEVER tasted olives that good, I wish I knew where to buy them. read more

Z Bar is a great spot for cocktails in the middle of the Magnificent Mile in The Peninsula Chicago. Elegant, classy, and yes, expensive. Be prepared to pay 2x for your drink of choice. If the weather allows, seat at the outdoor terrace overlooking Michigan Avenue. read more

Such a great rooftop experience atop the Peninsula! Although I only went in to try their special "z" cocktail, I was thoroughly impressed. Not only was the "z" amazing, but the complimentary cashews and marinated olives were a delicious surprise! I couldn't leave without trying the "strange magic" as well, based on my excellent bartenders recommendation. She assured me it wasn't syrupy in the least and she was positively correct. It was Delicious!!! Takes champagne to a new level! I would love to return with a group of ladies to order the disco ball-a spinning punch bowl filled with tasty spirits and topped with champagne! I also had the wonderful opportunity to meet the man behind the magic- the creator of these magical concoctions. What a delight in every aspect of my visit! It didn't hurt that the view was beautiful, the music upbeat and the ambience light and airy. read more

Friendly staff, clean , great atmosphere. My favorite local bar thus far. It's always a good experience when I return and the kitchen menu is a must try. You won't regret it read more

We were the youngest group there but it was a great rooftop bar! Had the Z drink which was refreshing and exactly what the night needed. Definitely a higher end bar with pricier drinks but well worth the money! read more

I cannot say enough about this place and the bartender, Tim. This bar has an amazing ambiance, view, and service. Great cocktails. If you're there, ask for Tim. He's wonderful! read more

Great rooftop bar with an A+ ambience. Perfectly suited for a romantic date night and quality cocktails that would definitely make me come back. Reaching up to the actual bar area was some work though. I had to wind around multiple elevators and hallways and ask more than one staff to get to the spot. Totally worth it though. read more

Summer in the city means Rooftop bars and this one just opened up. I wouldn't count on a beautiful skyline from this bar, but worth getting up and out for a quick drink or two. The two crafty cocktails I tried at Z Bar were the Cozmo and Disco Fever. Cozmo: citrus vodka|cranberry|mandarin|citrus. Disco Fever: vodka|mandarine|passion fruit|champagne|lemon. The drinks were refreshing, but nothing spectacular. The exceptional service my girl friend and I received is what made our experience at the Z Bar worth the visit(A Thursday Afternoon). read more

Came here for snacks during mid afternoon. Service was pleasant, however it took quite awhile for our drinks to be served - about 20-25 minutes. It's a nice spot but there are nicer views in the city. read more

Awful awful service, nobody answers the phone. Reservation system is god awful and doesn't allow to reserve outdoor seating, although when you show up, you're told that outdoor seating is for reservation only lol. To many good spots in Chicago for such terrible service and reservation options. OVER RATED! Any place that has a random 3rd party reservation system in which they don't control shows their laziness in taking care of their digital presence and brand. Falls in line with their terrible service. read more

YES!!!!! Even if you're not a fan of drinking, visit this place! The outside rooftop bar is awesome. The view is great, the staff is great, and they have blankets for those cold nights! This is located inside the Peninsula Hotel... so go!!! read more

With the many places to choose for a girl's night out in Chicago, Z Bar was the place of choice and we are still talking about it days later. We were seated at an outdoor table giving us views of the city that can only be found at the Peninsula. Interestingly, although you were seated in the middle of downtown, it was still quiet enough where you could have a decent conversation and you weren't competing with the typical noises of the city. The Z martini was made to perfection and I was "forced" to continually order it throughout the night. Alina explained the menu, answered all questions, and every recommendation made was a knockout. She was friendly, polite, and well versed in regards to ingredients and the overall menu. It started drizzling so we moved inside, and the transition was smooth when Brooke took over. She checked on us throughout and made us feel as if we were the only guests in the room. It was as if she would read our minds and meet our every need--before we even had to ask! Gabriel ensured that our table was cleaned the moment a plate was empty and we so appreciated his attention to detail. He treated us as if we were royalty-can we take him home with us next visit? This was a culinary experience that sets the bar so high, no other place in the city even compares. To top it all off, Kathryn (who I believe was a manger of sorts there) checked in to make sure we were pleased with the experience. What?? We felt like we were the only guests at Z Bar and were so appreciative to everyone's attentiveness and service. I realized this is the perfect place to have a private party, so the hostess even game me the private events catering manager's business card--score!! I can honestly say there is not anything else that could have been done that would have enhanced the experience. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time going anywhere else. For an over the top, out of this world experience, check out Z Bar--you will not regret it! read more

What a great view! Loved the artwork and the feel of the place. Food was good and drinks were as well. service was definitely the down side! Hostess was awesome, but we never saw our server after she took our order. read more

Certainly a fancier affair! If you have a special date or just interested in treating yourself to a great view, grab yourself a craft cocktail ranging from $18-$22 and enjoy the rooftop view. Though a bit pricey, for the vibe and depending on the occasion it might be worth it. We had an old fashion and the Z, which were very tasty read more

A year ago we stayed at the Peninsula and tried Z Bar. A complete mess. Too crowded, too disorganized. Thought we'd try it again on a Wednesday. Was told by the front desk they served food until 11:30. The hostess told us they served food until 11:30 and gave us menus. We ordered a cocktail and was then told by our server that the kitchen closed at 11:00. All their technology and they don't communicate with each other. Seems to be a lot of upper management who have no concept of how to manage their teams. I can't believe that they are still part of the Peninsula group. Maybe Marriott needs to train their staff. American Express needs to review who they let into their Fine Hotels and Resorts program. Chicago has so many good hotels that we will try next time. read more

Trendy bar with an amazing view of downtown chicago. The food was delicious and the vibe of the place is very charming. My only complaint would be about the slow service, so plan on spending a couple hours here if you are going for more than the drinks. I came with a group of friends and we didn't see our waitress from the time we sat down until we got the check, another waitress was taking care of us in between causing some miscommunication. Overall, I would come back. read more

Visited this past weekend with friends and had an unpleasant experience. The tables were fully committed due to a private event/ limited space understandable. We make our way to the bar which is first come first serve. We were able to snag some open seats and waited about 15-20 mins before the bartender who was directly in front of us even acknowledged we were there. I understand this place does high volume however the least he could have done was greeted us and communicated he would take our order when he was able. It was pretty embarrassing because we were raving about this rooftop to our friends who had not been there before. Normally the service is great and the staff is very friendly this was not the case on Saturday evening. I encourage Z bar to revisit the true definition of professionalism and hospitality. Management should also resolve why their staff appears so stressed and unhappy and how they can make improvements. read more

I give this place three stars only bc of the drink value and environment. But I wish the bartenders were more friendly. For such an upscale place, the bartenders should be able to smile, ask how people are doing, and be genuine. Please hire bartenders that are people persons because we did not get that vibe at all! The bar was not even that busy so please give some effort. Also you can't get an outside balcony seat unless you have a room at the hotel (on a Saturday afternoon) would give this place another try if they have better customer service. read more

My wife and I stopped in the bar for a quick drink before dinner at a nearby restaurant. We were staying at the hotel and decided to try out this bar. There was wait for outdoor seating, so we decided to sit at the bar instead. The bartender greeted us and made us feel welcome. Overall, the drinks are on the expensive side, however the quality of ingredients is very high. I had an old fashioned and my wife had a fruity raspberry drink. Both were delicious and we enjoyed them very much. They offered us cashews and marinated olives at the bar, which was a nice touch. Overall, it was an excellent experience and I would like to go back for a drink and try the outdoor seating. read more

Cute rooftop, decent food but slightly over priced for what it is, drinks are reasonably priced tho

I had a great experience here. Bo made us an amazing old fashion that was so tasty I had two more! The views are great and the dim lighting is really relaxing. Can't wait to come back. read more

DO NOT GO. Worst experience in Chicago. Terrible attitude by the hostess. After I had already payed for the overpriced drinks and food, a simple question got a very patronizing and demeaning answer. They also lost my credit card and put the blame on "another customer passing though the table and taking it" rather than simply looking for it. Making me have to cancel the card while traveling - thank god I do have more than one. There are many other places in the city with a view and especially - with better service. Stay away!!!! read more

Love the view from this bar, the drinks are delicious and the bar snacks are pretty scrumptious as well.

Always love taking people from out of town to this location. It has the perfect little outdoor roof top section with a view of Michigan Avenue. If you are in town you need to come by here and at least have 1 drink to experience the views and the atmosphere! The cocktail menu and the bartenders will make you feel very welcomed and like you are a regular. I only say that because that is not a staple in the Chicago scene and especially right on Michigan Avenue! read more

First, the staff is awesome. The view is incredible. But... I think Indian Jones couldn't find this place. When we got there no one was around to seat us so we did. After our server had to to negotiate with "the hostess" we were allowed to stay. My manhattan was great and my wife's drink was tasty, but the clientele was very "my trust fund is so difficult to deal with" and the creepy dude and his "assistant" in front of us. But go here, enjoy the view, judge the other people and tip the waitress. She deserves it read more

Over-priced but well crafted cocktails ($20 for an Old Fashioned) in an atmosphere that is indistinctly cool. The staff is beautiful and attentive but harried. I loved this place! Amazing view and great service! The old fashioned, Disco fever and NY Smash drinks are amazing. I can't wait to come back and try more. The decor is really cool. I came to visit the hottest spot in Chicago and ZBar did not disappoint! Thank you ZBar for the amazing night and impeccable service! I came with my friend Jackie for a quick drink and spent the whole night here! Exquisite decor and atmosphere, there are cute portraits of pugs! I miss the original cozy bar/lounge that Penisula had. ZBar doesn't have that class it's too "instagramy" for me!
