I was really impressed with this restaurant. We visited Toronto in June, and we were wandering around to figure out what to eat. Stumbled upon Yuen Tang and luckily we were able to order because they closed early on Tuesdays. We ordered the chili chicken and Yueh Tang special noodles - spicy. Both of these dishes were excellent. The noodles had an amazing wok hei flavor. The spice level was just right and subtle. The chili chicken was flavorful and paired perfectly with the noodles. Everything tasted fresh and was cooked well. If you're looking for delicious Chinese food in the city of Toronto, give Yeuh Tang a try. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Toronto!
I never ate at this restaurant, which is surprising to me as a Blue Jays fan. I've heard many players eat here, especially during the World Series years. So I went going in with good expectations - if it's good enough for the ballplayers, why not me? And the restaurant did not disappoint. The walk-up was warm and inviting, we were seated promptly and with no fuss, even with the dinner rush about to start. The place was very spacious and clean, as we got a booth that had a view overlooking some of the street. We ordered their sizzling beef with onions, green beans in black bean sauce and their famous chili chicken. The sizzle and the smell of the meat dishes were music to my ears, and the taste just as harmonious. The green beans were just as tasty and provided a nice balance to our proteins. All in all, I can't wait to come back and try more of their sumptuous dishes!
The oldest Hakka Chinese restaurant in Toronto. This 40 year old establishment is run by two sisters, Joanna and Janette Liu who took over for their parents Mike and May. I've been eating here for decades and the food is phenomenal! They got a renovated recently and it looks even better than before. Favourite Dishes: Chili Shell-less shrimp (crispy, soft, juicy with a kick), Crispy Beef (crunchy sweet with a bit of spice), Manchurian Chicken Dry (salty and flavourful), Cantonese Fried Rice (barbecue pork and shrimp, so good), and the Cantonese Chow Mein (crunchy and soft and delicious). The service is always excellent. Highly recommend!
With their campaign on the social media all over the place this place isn't anything to write home about. Mediocre food which can be even described as food court level. I thought the soup was ok while the 'famous' chilli chicken is sub par. You do get 'value' based on the promo they might have on the delivery apps. I think so for me.
We had been looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant. I know this sounds weird for the GTA, but THIS was about finding one that made a terrific Shrimp in Lobster Sauce. We had been used to one from Montreal where we used to live. Well thirty years later, still no decent Shrimp in Lobster Sauce until this! The food was incredible. Our wait-person Yuki, was incredibly attentive and even helped me to fix the broken zipper on my puffer jacket. Now THAT is service! On that note, it is rare to come across a restaurant, where the staff will advise you on the portion sizes. We were about to order a medium sized Hot & Sour soup, but she suggested that the small was more than enough. She was 100% right. And it was quiet. We could actually have a conversation! We had tried coming here once in 2021, December 31 at the height of Covid. We couldn't even get a takeout order, it was that busy. So glad we finally got to try it. It exceeded our expectations.
I was here for my friend's bday party and the staff were sooo cool and very humble. They were extremely accommodating with my gluten allergy and I got to try every single dish that was served at the party..... that I unfortunately didn't get a chance to take pictures of because my stomach ate first instead of my eyes. (Believe me when I say the food is bussin) This place is one of Toronto's OLDEST Hakka restaurants so the interior is very Chinese banquet style but with more modern touches since the this is a family business and their two daughters took over the business. it was so comforting and the food was so good that my wife and I plan on bringing another group of friends here! She had mentioned that it reminded her of her home cooking in Indonesia and it was really hard for them to find Indonesian style Chinese food so when we finally discovered what she was looking for was Hakka she started crying. (Poor baby) I saw that had app specials and mocktail options for those with a budget. I just love how they're so thoughtful with everything and you can really tell the family really cares about their community and how they show up. Please support this business as much as possible, they only have one location making the trip downtown from Vaughan to try was so worth it !
I LOVE hakka food so I was really excited but the veggie options weren't great. I wish the tofu was crispy for the manchurian tofu but it was super soft and chewy. The rice was good but did not have hakka flavours in it. Not sure if it wasn't great because I'm veg
Delicious no-frills food with great vegetarian options in a comfortable space. Have been several times in the last few years, dishes tried on the most recent visits were: - Manchurian mushroom chow mein: the selection of noodle, topping, and sauce options was great, Manchurian sauce was super flavourful with a good mix of salty, sweet, sour, and spicy. - Mushroom garlic noodles: really aromatic and well-seasoned, but very clearly felt like a shareable side rather than a main (maybe bigger chunks of green onion and garlic would have helped?) and the mushrooms were a bit bland. - Vegetarian hot and sour soup: included some surprising ingredients like large pieces of bell peppers and peas, and also tasted a bit acrid, maybe due to the sambal used. By far the spiciest thing I've had here. Only thing to note is that solo diners might get seated at these little round tables in the middle of a walkway if they are busy, which feels quite awkward.

This is one of the oldest Hakka spots in Toronto that opened around the 1980s. I came here on a Friday during their lunch hours and the lunch special came with a dish, spring roll and a pop for $16-$18. The service was quick and the waitress was extremely pleasant. My friend and I got the Crispy Beef and Chilli Chicken (saucy) and added the Chinese Broccoli for an up charge of $2.5. Both were extremely flavourful and the portions were massive. I can easily make two meals out of one. I liked the Crispy beef a bit more than the Chilli Chicken. It had a nice crunch with a little sweet and umami aftertaste. The bell peppers and onions add a nice crunch. The Chilli Chicken was good as well. This is a quick sit, quick eat and quick leave spot. I will definitely be coming back!
This is a well-known restaurant in my family for authentic Hakka cuisine. This restaurant is situated on the 2nd floor of a building in the heart of downtown Toronto, and inside is very spacious which means large parties are welcome. The waiters were really friendly towards us and gave us suggestions to maximize our dining experience. One of the waiters suggested we order the Manchurian chicken with wet sauce and the chili chicken dry so we could try one chicken dish with sauce and other dish without sauce - it was a great idea! The food is delicious, the chicken and beef were so tender and so flavorful and paired well with rice. We will definitely plan to eat here again if we visit downtown Toronto. I want to try other items on the menu, but if I were to eat these same dishes again I would be perfectly content with that too.
I think this place redeemed themselves, the manager working there still remembers us we've been coming g there for years since I was 5 years old. If you want authentic Hakka this is the place to come. We ordered chilli fish, chilli chicken and crispy beef. The chilli fish I believe is most popular, it's really delicious, crispy on outside and soft and delicate on the inside, the chilli chicken was really good had a Smokey Flavor, you get that authentic Hakka taste, what I liked it's not as salty as Frederick's, If you have chilli fish make sure you eat it with the white rice, if you like noodles make sure you get chilli chicken with the crisoy noodle I didn't get it because I'm trying to avoid carbs. I wish they would start giving oranges with the fortune cookies their oranges were so good, but maybe covid changed everything and everything is now expensive it's understandable.
There is so much that can be said about Toronto's Yueh Tung restaurant. They've been around since the 80s, serving delicious Indian style Hakka Chinese Cuisine, and currently run by sisters Jeanette and Joanna. They have done a great job in keeping the family business alive and thriving. Recent updates by TV's Restaurant Makeover, and from popular bloggers and celebrities have certainly helped with their resurgence as one of Toronto's best Hakka restaurants. My friends and I have dined here since the 80s but have hardly been back since the tremendous growth of Chinese restaurants uptown. With friends visiting from Vancouver, it was time for an overdue visit. Here's what we had: Cantonese Chow Mein Sweet & Sour Pork Spice & Pepper Shrimp Black Cod Fish Chili Chicken Chicken in Hot Pot Hakka Braised Pork Belly Snowpea Leaves Everything was delicious, with rich flavours. We enjoyed it all, especially their signature Chili Chicken. My personal favourites would have to include the Black Cod and Sweet & Sour Pork. A lot more can be said about this Chinatown institution, its rich history, its struggles through the COVID era, and their recent resurgence as a Toronto hotspot. Kudos to Jeanette and Joanna for their perseverance and dedication to keeping the traditions alive and thriving! read more
Yueh Tung is a Hakka Chinese restaurant in Toronto's original Chinatown. The food & portions are generally consistent at this packed family restaurant. Lunch menu offers many Hakka Chinese dishes such as Manchurian Beef, Curry Shrimp & Ginger Beef on rice. Their most popular lunch dish is Chili Chicken over rice ($17), sautéed with onions, chilies, garlic & sweet soy sauce. We had the saucy variation over rice with a mix small-to-medium sized chunks of fried chicken with slight caramelization. Wok-fired flavours were intense especially from the sambal olek sour chili paste over the sauce-infused meat. It's not for everyone but warms the soul. Staff recommended fried rice but the white rice is better as-is to help balance the strong dish similar to others I've tried here previously. The restaurant has many booths, and middle aisle round tables reserved for solo diners. Food is served quickly. Strangely staff also dropped off the bill for solo diners in the middle of eating while group tables didn't appear to receive this treatment. Then a chair was also withdrawn from the table with a slight recognition that it was needed for a group table beside us. Payment is at the front cash where you can meet the owner. Skip it or hit it? Fiery Hakka Chinese food but be prepared for a bit of a rushed meal. read more

I wanted to try this restaurant because I saw the story about the two sisters on YouTube. I had high expectations because it's said to be the oldest Hakka restaurant in Toronto. I really think this place is overhyped. The food was good. Not great but good. The prices are more expensive than other Hakka places that I've been to. I don't feel that the food justified the price. Too expensive in my opinion. I went with a reservation. I don't know how people would lineup for this place. Again, it's good, but not great. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

Craved some Hakka food so we UberEats'd this restaurant's top 3 items: Hakka sweet soy noodle, chili shrimp, stir fried kung pao chicken. All the food came in good portions, but for the kung pao chicken, we were disappointed that there were more vegetables than chicken in the dish. The sweet soy noodles were super tasty, not too sweet, and had a wonderful chewy texture. The shrimp, however, was the star of the show. Perfectly spicy and crispy, these shrimp were amazing - definitely recommend it. Last but not least, the kung pao chicken had good flavouring as well: it was salty and spicy, well cooked. As mentioned before however, there were more of the accompanying vegetables in our plate than the chicken. Overall, this place is great for Hakka food! We didn't get to explore many of the other options but we hope to do so in the future :) read more

Came by for lunch and tried the chili chicken with gravy lunch special and added broccoli. the portions here are massive and it was nice to see that they use freshly fried dark meat for the chicken so it was nice and hot. Servers are efficient but not particularly friendly. They are very busy during lunch. read more

They sell 3 types of Hakka food: Indian Hakka, Cantonese Hakka & Hakka Hakka. I tried to find out what dishes were which type of Hakka but the staff were very unhelpful. Had Hakka wonton garlic noodles (I think this is Cantonese Hakka). They were decent. There were quite a lot of wantons & they were fresh & bouncy. There was some BBQ pork. The sauce was decent but there was no smoky wok flavour: supposedly it was stir fried noodles but tasted tossed in sauce. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised coming here. It brings back fond memories of Spadina garden which used to be close by and I've been missing it. We had some crispy beef on a hot plate and the chilli chicken in sauce, then also had some baby bok Choy. The beef was so good, so crispy and tasty. The chicken was also really good. Very tasty. The portions of both were very large. We finished off the beef bot that we needed to but it was so tasty. I'm shocked this place doesn't have better reviews, we will coming back as regulars I reckon.. I'm sorry it took so long to find this place.. It's been here for ages too...check it out! read more

I would say this is probably my favourite venue for (Hakka) chilli chicken. I usually order their chilli chicken on rice during lunch time for 11$. Sometimes I would go for the rice noodle upgrade (3$). For the rice noodle upgrade they would fry the rice noodle in a wok then bed it with a generous layer of sauce and chilli chicken. Dinner prices are slightly more, but the quality is a lot better than other Hakka restaurants. read more

I recently heard about this restaurant and how it was one of the oldest Hakka restaurants in Toronto. So I decided to do a takeout order to try it out. We ordered the Chili Chicken with gravy and the Chicken Fried Rice. I loved the flavour of the chilli chicken, it tasted so authentic to what you would find in Calcutta, India. The fried rice was also really great, it soft and had a good flavour. They also gave a great house-made hot sauce which I really liked! Overall, this place was a little on the expensive side, but since it's downtown, I can understand that. I'll definitely be back! read more

Told that this was the oldest hakka restaurant in Toronto, so went to check it out for lunch. My expectations were high - we heard that hakka was a fusion of chinese and indian cuisines and were anticipating really flavourful dishes. After eating at Yueh Tang, we read more about hakka cuisine and realized it's not quite what we had imagined. We ordered the chili chicken which was not particularly spicy and was ok for chinese food. The tofu dish was better in texture, flavor. None felt like fusion. read more

I'm so glad we found this place. Do not let the second floor location fool you as this not your average Chinese takeout place. We ordered fried rice, braised pork belly and garlic baby bok choy and all the flavors were there. No extra oil on the fried rice just the umami goodness. You can't miss the soft, falling apart pork belly! And the clear garlic sauce on the baby bok choy was not overpowering at all. Now that's what I call comfort food at its best! read more

My go to hakka spot downtown for the past couple years. Solid dishes, good quality food, and good deals if you go to the restaurant - but expect a 30% markup if you order on the apps. It's hard to go wrong with anything you order, but a common family favourite is the crispy ginger beef. We also got the crab corn soup, shrimp chow mein, and chicken fried rice. Overall, this is a great spot to satisfy those hakka cravings. read more
