The good: I don't usually eat pork but the pork dumplings were well flavored, the dough is thin and soft- the filling rich, the chili oil gives it a spicy kick and the peanuts added depth of flavor. The beef ramen was massive, with flavorful cubes of meat and a hearty broth. The bad: The shrimp crystal dumplings were overly fishy, and didn't smell the freshest unfortunately. I'm excited that a new Chinese place opened close to us. Based on the menu, I had certain expectations of what they'd taste like so a ome dishes were just average, some were slightly below. Found this place on Yelp... decided to give it a try because it was really close to home. Glad we gave it a shot because the food is solid. Just as good as going to Edison without the drive. The signature noodle dish was delicious. Broth was very flavorful, noodles were cooked great, and portion size was decent (although I could have done with more soup). Price was very reasonable. Came here for lunch with the family. I am really surprised how authentic the food here is. I have not seen chongching noodle other than TikTok videos. I would not know where to go in Edison or Flushing queens for CC noods. We got the beef noodle soup as a safe and a dish we are familiar with. The cucumbers salad comes with peanuts so beware as we are now mindful for our little gremlin's allergy. I hate to compare this place to AJ's in East Hanover but I wish Yu makes the scallion pancakes with sliced braised beef. That's one of our favorite dish I think Yu can easily replicate. Service is quick and accommodating. I feel non Chinese people will have a difficult time enjoying the food here. Because they really can't compare the noodles soups to pho which has been trending for a while now. People will expect the dumplings at take out to be as good as it comes hot to the table especially for the soup dumplings. I really hope Garwood and the local community supports this place. The food is fresh, not greasy, service was great, takes credit cash unlike AJ, and the place is very clean. Also, there desserts is really good. I'm a sucker for sweet sticky rice and anything mango. Wow!!! I am so glad we stopped by for a quick bite. Interesting flavor combos that can be added onto your order. The food even came with a complimentary egg and seaweed plate. The spring rolls were a good size. As someone who doesn't love soup dumplings, these were so yummy. Soup dumplings + spring rolls were enough to satisfy two people for a light lunch. Yu Noodles is a new addition to Garwood. This strip mall once had a hamburger joint and a salad place. Both have gone and now Yu Noodles takes up a large space in the middle. When taking over the owners made it a point to renovate the space. Everything from the tables to the lighting to the walls look new. Oddly, the decor is very...non-Asian in theme. There is some artwork featuring Old Skool Asian themed artwork, but other walls have framed pictures that look like they came from IKEA or something. Odd arches have been added to parts of the restaurant that look good, but more like they were meant for an Italian restaurant or perhaps a diner. All that said, the space is wide open and welcoming. You can also see into the kitchen which is a nice dramatic touch. My partner and I came late (about 40 minutes before closing) so the staff looked pretty tired, but that didn't stop them from being courteous and welcoming. We were seated quickly and in no time a waitress was taking our orders. Here is what we had: STICKY RICE SIOMAI (aka shiu mai) WITH PORK If you have been to the nearby Magic Grill, you may have had their dumplings. These are a smaller version of those, featuring sticky rice wrapped in a dumpling wrapper with some pork. These are significantly smaller than Magic Grill's but they are good. That said, Magic Grill's are a bit tastier. SESAME PASTE NOODLES WITH MINCED PORK This was a wonderful dish featuring noodles in a very savory sauce with pork and vegetables on top. Add on some of the hot chili oil at the table and it's absolutely delightful! CHICKEN LEG NOODLE SOUP This dish features noodles in a clear(ish) broth and roast chicken on the side with some vegetables. The broth is absolutely delicious with a wonderfully comforting flavor. Keeping the chicken separate is a good idea as it keeps its flavor from seeping out into the broth. I recommend making sure you have some broth, a piece of vegetable, some noodle and a piece of chicken in each bite. It's a wonderful combination. SHRIMP & PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS One of the most important aspects of a soup dumpling is structural integrity. Remember, there's a bit of soup inside the dumpling so you don't want the outer wrapper to break when you lift it up from the steamer. This happens more often than you may think. Fortunately I am happy to report this did not happen here! Even better? The dumpling has a wonderful chew and the pork and shrimp inside was delicious. Was really excited to try Yu Noodle as our area is devoid of great dumpling and noodle shops. Maybe we just ordered the wrong items, but unfortunately our food wasn't great. Of the 5 dishes we ordered only 2 were good, and 1 was a dessert. We ordered: 1. Chicken soup dumplings - C- dumplings were nicely shaped but not very juicy and fairly flavorless 2. Crystal shrimp dumplings - F - the shrimp was extremely fishy, almost tasted rancid. 3. Sticky rice shumai - D - Rice was very dry, gloppy, and the dish had an odd overall perfumey taste. 4. Marinated duck - B+ - this dish was good, duck was flavorful. 5. Black sticky rice with mango and coconut milk - A- - excellent dessert, just wish they gave us more mango. I am so, so glad Yu Noodles opened! While there's plenty of Chinese takeout places in the area, there's been a dearth of authentic szechuan/dim sum food. I'm excited there's now a place with soup dumplings (xiao long bao), tasty szechuan beef noodle soup (decent amount of noodles, reasonably tender beef, and pickled radish), crystal shrimp dumplings (har gow), pan fried pork dumplings, scallion pancakes in the area! I don't have to drive to Parsipanny for this kind of food! Yu Noodles offers a variety of other dim sum food options that can be ordered for both lunch and dinner. We ordered this food to take home, but may just eat there sometime soon because there is plenty of seating in a sizeable space. And since it's in a strip mall, no need to worry about finding parking on the street. I look forward to coming back to try some of the other food on the menu! On a later visit, along w/soup dumplings and pan fried pork dumplings, got the Yibin spicy dry noodles with minced pork, as well as beef over rice with fried egg. The noodles were normal spicy level but because there were numbing spices, I could only get halfway through and will finish the other half for lunch later (also because it was a very large bowl of noodles). I went for lunch and found everything very good. My first impression of the dining room was that it was spacious and very clean. We had a table at the booth and had a family with children to the right and a table for two on our left. There was plenty room to enjoy ourselves without feeling crowded. We had the scallion pancakes, pork soup dumplings, the beef noodle soup and a noodle dish that was pork without broth. Everything was delicious. The dumplings had a good amount of broth and the skin not too thick. The scallion pancakes were nicely thin and fried, not doughy.
