Very basic American Chinese food.... Not very flavorful unless u drown in soy sauce and hot

What I like about this Chinese restaurant is that it is clean, the food taste like what is supposed to taste like and the staff are very nice. The only negative is that I have to go on Rt22 to get there and that they are pretty pricey for fun of the mill Chinese. Is this place Momofuku, no. Is it as tasty and 1/4 the price, absolutely! We got a bunch of items. Super friendly staff. The boneless spare ribs were excellent; get a large. The pork fried rice was excellent. The crab ragoons were great; good tempera. The General Tso's was very good. The egg roll was meh. Very affordable for all this food. We will be back! read more

China House has been my main takeout food resource for a few years now. They were doing curbside delivery through a makeshift airlock in the front door all during the pandemic, and the business remained popular. They are now back to normal operation. Prices have increased, but that's to be expected these days, and the portions remain generous. A $40 order is plenty of food for several meals. There's many Szechuan dishes on the menu, but the spicy dishes are not particularly spicy. The cooking style here is decidedly Hunan. The chefs sometimes have a heavy hand with the corn starch, but the food is pretty consistent, and they generally cook the proteins perfectly, whether it be chicken, pork, beef, or shrimp. Some of my favorites are Pork Egg Foo Young, Chicken w/Brown Sauce, Pepper Steak w/Onion, Beef w/Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, Orange Chicken, Thai Fried Rice, and Shrimp Pad Thai. I alway pickup my order, so I can't speak to their delivery service, but it takes me about 15 min. to drive there, and my food is always ready when I arrive. read more

I have been looking for a good basic Chinese food take out close by to me in Mountainside that delivers and after reading reviews decided to give them a try. After my second take out order I felt ready to review. This is really good food! I am pretty basic- favorite dishes are shrimp with lobster sauce, shrimp egg foo young, shrimp chow mein, dumplings, and spring rolls- our go to. First time ordering takeout from here. It got decent reviews online so I figured I would give it a try. Food was honestly awful. Dry egg rolls, wonton meat tasted very "gamey" (not sure why). Best Chinese takeout in the area! The owners are friendly, and the food is reasonably priced. Standouts are: chicken and eggplant, the spare ribs on the bone, the egg rolls (so crispy), and I really like the fried dumplings, although they may be too soft for some. My wife and my youngest love the crab Rangoon also. Even the white rice is just perfect - nice and fluffy. The vegetables in dishes like Kung pow chicken, spicy pork, and chicken and broccoli also seem really fresh, and they are never overdone, always prepared with a snap. Maybe I could give it 2 stars because the delivery was fast and the delivery guy was polite, but my order of pad Thai was so lacking I cannot do it. This was the worst pad Thai I have ever had. virtually no vegetables or tofu, it was 98% noodles. The flavor was fine, but Honestly zero pride went into making this dish. Tried a few places after moving to the area and China House is always delicious! Even the soup has more flavor than usual and they are very generous with the wontons. The orange chicken, chicken with broccoli, Mongolian beef all have been consistently great. My sister in law has various food allergies and they were great checking with the chef to confirm what we ordered for her was safe. Can't rave more!!! read more

While running some errands I stopped at China house restaurant for a quick bite to eat. I ordered the fried baby shrimp with pork fried rice. The food was good and the staff was friendly. It took 5-10 min for them to make my food and I was on my way. Good clean place. Would definitely stop in there again. read more

Stopped by to pick up a quick and easy lunch and they were quick!!! They had several people preparing the fresh vegetables while one worked on rolling the egg rolls and the other sautéed the noodles in the largest wok I've ever seen. He was a definite master with the wok and the noodles came out fantastic. We ordered the Singapore Mei Fun and the Beef Chow Fun for take out and both were flavored PERFECTLY. The Singapore Noodles had the right amount of Curry flavor to noodles and the Beef Chow Fun had the right ratio of noodles to beef to bean sprouts. For me, balance is key to each dish.. For my first visit, I was impressed- quick, fresh and easy. I will have to come back to try out a few more dishes.. read more

Quick stop off the highway 78 east, I phoned in an emergency order of eggplant with garlic sauce. 10 mins later, it was ready for pickup. Hot and spicy, made just the way I like it. Comes with a side of fluffy Thai Jasmine white rice. Only downer is the $9 price. read more

I really like the food here. I haven't tried the Thai food but being an asian I can't eat Thai food from a Chinese joint. It's never done correctly. This is IMO.. but I did try their chow fun which my husband LOVES. He's a picky Taiwanese and when he had it their he was very satisfied. It tasted like authentic chinatown food. First time trying China House AND first time use of delivery service. I am so far from just being satisfied, I am actually ecstatic! Great ease of service through their website. Quick turnaround delivery. But the FOOD, OMG!! Sooooo good! My husband had for the diet section steamed shrimp and mixed veggies. Not 4 shrimp, not 5, BUT 12 LARGE shrimp. And the awesome sauce, I was almost jealous of his choice! Almost because I had spicy mango chicken which will feed me through 3 meals. I hate to write this review, because the counter personnel seemed like nice people. However the proprietor, or the people behind the the counter set the rules, and they should tell any patrons with animals they will not be served if they bring the animal into the restaurant. Today I went into this restaurant and a woman was in this establishment holding a tan little dog. It was for some time (at least more than 5 minutes), as I had time to smile at her very cute daughter, who smiled back. Then I realized that the mother had a dog in hand. She then took those hands and put them in the open offering of sauces, as well has having the dog near the food counter. I commented on being offended by the dog, and the fact that she could have easily left the dog in the car, which was parked within 2 feet (if that), of the open door to the restaurant. Her car and mine were the only ones near the door, and she was there before me. She could have left her daughter in the car holding the dog. Or left the daughter at the door holding the dog. Or used her phone to call in her order, after running in and getting a menu. Then asked that they bring the order to her in the car. No, she thought she would bring the unsanitary animal into the food establishment and stand there while making and picking up her order. At that point the people behind the counter should have told her, 'Ma'am, you cannot bring an animal into the restaurant, those are health regulations for the state of NJ.' However this rude woman (we know that because she obviously doesn't care about other patrons, or the establishment itself, which could potentially be fined), says to me indignant, 'I am not leaving my dog in the car'. The woman was in her early 30's, and clearly felt entitled in addition to being rude. Well I like dogs and own a dog, and I have never travelled without a dog carrier, so that others are not exposed to my pet if I have to stop quickly (I also carry a ton of Purell), and for the safety of the dog. It was also clear the people behind the counter agreed with me, as they were shaking their heads yes to my comments. However perhaps they were being too kind and didn't know how to hadle it (which is why did not give them a 1). That is why I have written this review. It is their responsibility to advise no animals in the restaurant. Which again is why I am writing this review. I left, I don't know what that woman touched, however if that woman lives in the area, she should be told she cannot bring a dog into the restaurant. Any other patron(s) should also immediately be told they will not be served with an animal in hand. Let them then take the animal out of the restaurant. Not to mention people who have allergies, they would not expect a dog to be in a food establishment. read more

Just got my Christmas delivery and they were great! Came in 1/2 hour/very polite and nice driver! Ordered fried wontons-nice and crispy, sesame chicken-good with fresh broccoli, chicken lettuce wrap-came with a huge head of iceberg. I'd say that this is the 2nd best Chinese in Scotch Plains. Best things about China House are the kind staff, portion size, value and the Lettuce wraps....really tasty! Food tends to have a little less flavor than other places I've been, seems perhaps "Americanized", but still worth the trip. read more

Just moved to the area and decided to order for delivery based on the amazing reviews. We placed the order at 6pm and the owner informed us of a 45 minute wait (My husband was doing some minor work in the kitchen so we couldn't cook). 50 minutes later, I received a call from a man on a different number. I thought he was outside, but instead he informed me that they would not be able to make the delivery due to the lack of drivers. He asked me if that is okay.....I asked why they didn't tell me when I placed the order 50 minutes ago, but he could only tell me that they could not make the delivery tonight. So... what am I supposed to do with a hungry toddler past her dinner time? He didn't offer for me to pick up the food or anything... just nothing. I can only say that we won't be ordering from them again, EVER. read more

I'm not sure where these other reviews are coming from, but we live locally and order from here on a regular basis. The staff is super friendly and always knows exactly how we like our food when we call in to place an order(my husband likes his food very spicy and they get it right every time). I have not been disappointed once. I have ordered Chinese food from many places and I must say that China House is one of my favorites. Besides the fact that this place is about 5 mins away from where I live, it really is the best Chinese food in town. Portions are huge and are always made to order, fresh, and delicious. Delivery is super fast, and the staff is very friendly. I'd say prices are about average in comparison to other places in town, but you are really getting great quality food.
