Which is fine, but hard to believe. I asked the employee how was her day and she ignored me. After I ordered she told me the price before sorting anything or telling anyone to make it, as if couldn't afford it. The place looked like a hole in the wall to boot. I will never go back here. After having an unfortunate experience with our usual Chinese take out restaurant, we decided to be give China City a try. The menu is standard and reasonably priced. We were able to place our order no problem. They do not offer delivery, which is something to note. The order was ready promptly and correct. They do not nickel and dime you like some other establishments these days. The woman who took the order and checked me out was very friendly! It was nice to see a smile on someone's face. The restaurant was also extremely clean. The food was good overall. The steamed chicken was slightly more dry than I'm used to and the moo goo gai pan had more oil and more flavor than I've had in the past. After coming here for just about 7 years I can still honestly say that this place is doing everything right, and that's why they continue to be busy even during the pandemic. They do adhear to social distancing, mask wearing and they have plexiglass between you and the cashier. They also have hand sanitizer for customers. The food here is consistently good and fresh. They do not use any MSG. The owner kelly along with her staff is very friendly. My food is always ready when promised. They have a large menu to choose from with different styles of Chinese cooking.They have healthy options, along with vegetarian dishes. I found this restaurant very accommodating when it came to special orders when placed ahead of time. There are a few booths for eating in, but the majority of people just call ahead place their order and get takeout. They will deliver locally and you don't have to go through GrubHub or one of the other delivery services if you choose. I've tried many of their dishes and I'm never disappointed. I really enjoy their wonton soup, and wonton egg drop soup. I get it every single time I order. Some of my favorites are their chicken with broccoli, they use white meat chicken and the sauce is delicious. Sesame Chicken, Orange Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, Pork Lo Mein , Shrimp and Broccoli, Chicken with String beans, Pork Fried Rice, and either Steamed or Fried Dumplings. This is probably our "cheap, greasy" goto Chinese takeout restaurant in Warren. The food isn't terrible but it's not the greatest. You come here when you need food fast that's worth your money and won't kill your wallet. It also will fill your stomach up with enough fats and oils to last the day. It isn't the healthiest because of the amount of oils the entrees are cooked in but certainly has enough flavor and portion for the price you pay. I do love the fried chicken wings they have here. A bit of Asian style fried chicken wings with thin batter and sometimes you still see some bits of feather or hair on the chicken. Dont eat that part but the thin batter is nice and super crispy and salty. Not as carb heavy as KFC. I wouldn't eat here all the time, once or twice a month to watch out for your health. But good for when you're really tired and don't want to cook. And want to save money. read more

First time I am updating a review to increase the star count. This place is the best fast Chinese Restaurant anywhere, period. This joint is spotless, floors, tables even the bathroom.... The food is consistently great and never greasy. No matter how packed they are my order is taken and food is prepared fast. I am a pain in the ass of a customer, I send food back when it is not right.. that has NEVER happened here. Some highlights for those looking for that sort of thing: The boneless ribs are the best you are going to find, I eat this like 2x a week. Their ribs on the bone are even better, but its a messy carnivorous experience that never fails to make me look like I just left a crime scene. Shrimp in garlic sauce, big shrimp, super fresh and prepared so that when you bite into them you get that crisp snap! The egg foo young is hearty and a huge portion.. again, not greasy. If you are feeling ill and in need of some soup, they make a duck soup that will have you back in the fight before you reach the bottom of the bowl. The lunch specials are a great go-to 7$ meal that will have you nice and full.. and a half hour later.. still full. The place is run by a really nice family who actually care, give China City II a shot and thank me later, when the Michelin Guide people grace this place with a star you can claim "I used to eat here back when...." NOTE**** No matter how many times I beg for extra MSG, offering to pay double, they refuse.. as they do not add any.. so bring your own. read more

This was my first trip to China City and I would visit again. The portions for the combination (shrimp and broccoli and soup) were not very large but the soup was good and the main dish was very good. The dining area sits about 22 people. It seems like more of a take out place but can accommodate small groups. read more

i have really become a fan of this place. It is clean, and quick. Tends to mostly do takeout as there is little room/ tables in the place for eating - not really table service. I have yet to order something and not be very pleased with my order. We had spring rolls, shrimp egg rolls, Szechuan shrimp and broccoli with garlic sauce tonight. I ordered a Generals Chicken and asked for the special. They made a regular Generals chicken and I let them know they didn't give me the correct order. Instead of giving me the egg roll and pork fried rice, they charged me an additional $8.95 in addition to charging me the price that was more for the order they gave me that was not the special. First time and last time I will ever come in this place. I should have said give my money back and threw the damn food across the counter. They made about $12 more from me after their mistake. I've been a long time customer of this establishment.. they're recently taken the route of taking your order and then telling you they changed everything when you come to pick up your order. They have no problem telling you yes and ok but do not tell you the changes they have made. Apparently they do not do combo orders anymore... and a simple beef and mushrooms with pork fried rice costed 28$. This is the last time I spend a single dollar at this place as they've gotten greedy and are trying to take advantage of anyone coming thru their doors. read more

I am not the first of my Yelp friends to write a review about China City II although I have visited them at their Warren location for takeout a few times. I like silly little things about this place like the two sets of doors to the outside so you don't change the inside temperature just by entering. I enjoy the open view of the kitchen so I can watch the chefs expertly prepare and cook food in the woks. My wife believes that the ingredients are fresher than at other Chinese restaurants. Although there are plenty of tables to dine at, we chose to take out a couple of combos. I was disappointed that the egg roll had a doughy under-cooked texture to it. The entrees were better. My General Tso's Chicken was good but a bit mild. My wife's Chicken with garlic sauce was also a bit blander than expected especially since the menu warns you that it is spicy. I will return to China City II for it's fresh food, clean conditions and friendly staff. read more

Good Chinese spot in Warren. After running through all of the local Chinese take outs in Dunellen, Green Brook, and most of Piscataway I decided to run up the hill to Warren. I ordered the general tso's, chicken and broccoli, and young chow fried rice. The kids tore into the chicken and broccoli like they hadn't eaten in weeks. The general tso's was really good as well. Young chow fried rice was probably in the top two or three I've had in New Jersey. Nice and clean with quick service. The young woman behind the counter that took my order had it ready quickly. There was lack of flavor and spice. We ordered steamed dumplings and a vegetable egg roll, the flavor was "ok" but the disappointment was in the size. China city is on way home from work: and when I looked at the rating (4+ stars) I decided to take a chance. I'm so happy I did! We tried egg rolls. Very nice! Crisp, not greasy. Veggie fried rice was very tasty. Won ton soup was good. (Won tons could have used a little more filling.) The general tso's chicken was excellent! Just the right amount of sweet and heat! My take-out order was terrible and expensive! The dumplings were tiny shriveled up over-cooked doughballs of tasteless meat, not from scratch and definitely not like other "standard from a food supplier" ones from other Chinese places in the area. As for the main dishes, from the old 80's Wendy's commercial "Where's the beef?" and I might add where's the chicken? The beef when I found it among the vegetables was overly velveted to the point of being mushy at best. Again, very little of it to be found and that might be a good thing because it just tasted bad. The chicken seemed to be bits and pieces of mystery cuts that where battered and just over cooked to the point of not being able to chew it. Extremely frustrating to pay good money and it seems they just don't care what they are pushing out of the kitchen. My advice, pass on this place and get a burger or pizza instead. read more
