We got the potstickers (thick and crispy skin; home made taste), beef tripe in chili oil (very strong flavor- originally doesn't taste too spicy but once you are half way through, you will really feel it), Dan Dan noodle and braised beef brisket hand pulled noodle soup. Noodles are chewy and everything tastes fresh and homey. However, since everything is strong flavored, it was a bit salty overall so next time I will try to get balanced choice of flavors. Be prepared for crowds! ===== Showed up at 5ish and thought it would be a little early for the dinner crowd, but we were wrong! It was packed in there and we had to add ourselves to the waitlist using their QR code at the host table. Thankfully we only had to wait 5-10 minutes or so, but as the evening went on we saw more and more people waiting, so plan accordingly! We ordered: - cold chicken appetizer - 3.5/5 - not as flavorful as others I've had, and (minor) the presentation wasn't the usual pretty slab of chicken; y'all should know this, but there are bones! - original braised beef noodle soup - 3.5/5 - technically the noodles are knife-cut vs. hand-pulled, but I really enjoyed the chewy texture. Soup wasn't that flavorful and was a tad salty. Came with some interesting pickles - vermicelli shrimp - 3.8/5 - big portion, and one of the dishes that comes with a gas burner. I came with my family on a weekday afternoon for lunch and there were plenty of open tables. We found street parking but realized that there is free parking in the lot next door. We ordered family style and had the following: original braised beef noodle soup, scallion pancake, fish fillet with pickled vegetable soup, crispy shrimp with mayo and fries, Chongqing popcorn chicken, and peapod shoots with garlic. The food came out quickly and everything was good. The scallion pancake was perfectly crispy while the braised beef noodle soup was flavorful with chewy hand pulled noodles. Our little one enjoyed the crispy shrimp but it didn't taste as good the next day since the fries were pretty soggy. The fish fillet with pickled vegetable soup was spicy for my parents but I didn't think it was too spicy. I also enjoyed that it didn't have ginger inside like at some restaurants. Went here for brunch with a couple of dear friends and this place did not disappoint. First, the place is a little difficult to find because their signage is WAY up there. The door has no logos or any kind of name. The place is small but well organized and tidy. Service was good and fast. We tried to order the noodles but apparently they ran out of flour - forgivable given that they are know for their hand made noodles (we did see flour delivery coming in while we were eating, they were not lying LOL). We had the scallion pancake which was crispy, not greasy and came with delicious dipping sauce. We also ordered the cumin lamb which was excellent!!! We ordered a couple of vegetable side dishes which were perfect accompaniments. The servings were large so we can't order anything more. The menu is pretty short, which to me is a sign of a focused restaurant that values the quality of their food. This is not your typical China town restaurant with hundreds of items in their menu. I was really hoping it would satisfy my love of hand-pulled noodles, like one can get at Xi'an Famous Foods in New York City, but I found the knife-cut noodles just not quite strong and chewy enough. The noodles kept breaking in my chopsticks, making it difficult to pull them out of the soup. If there is any way to toughen up the noodles and make them more chewy, that would be amazing! Probably my new favorite chinese spot in Chicago! We went for dinner on a Sunday - on the early end (maybe aroune 5:15/5:30 pm) so we didn't have to wait. Waiters were very nice, but as dinner got busier, service got a little slower - not a big deal, but if you are in a rush, I would make note of this. The space itself is on the smaller end, but it does feel cozy and bright (and very clean). For 3 people, we ordered the pork belly with garlic sauce, sweet skinned duck, shrimp vermicelli, and Three Vegetables (eggplant, potato, pepper). The pork belly also comes with some noodles to soak up the sauce, which was a nice touch. Our favorites were the duck and shrimp vermincelli! And portion sizes were excellent. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because staff would pull the trash bins out full of cardboard boxes and trash while customers were eating, which I thought was unhygienic. Was there not a back door to the alley for them to throw this out there? Or couldn't they have waited until the restaurant was empty? Excellent food, nice variety for vegetarians /pescatarians, noodles especially in soups are fantastic (if you order them takeout, they may seem a bit stuck together but they will still be great once mixed back in with the soup). Kung pao tofu, tofu noodle soup, sesame noodles, cold chicken in chili oil, braised pork ribs noodle soup all were excellent.
