I've been searching for a Chinese restaurant in Chicago that hits authentic flavors with great preparations, and Yoo Yee really hit the spot. Their extensive menu can be a bit overwhelming, but that means that I'll have to come back and try more items. The restaurant has a decent amount of seats, but fills up pretty quickly. At around 8pm on a Wednesday it was super packed! Every dish we had was super punchy and cooked well. The pork ribs were lightly fried and had a mochi-like texture. The eggplant was soft and creamy. I have the most incredibly positive things to say about Yoo Yee. From service, to ambiance, to the quality and taste of the food... wow! I went on a spur of the moment decision, and while it was a bummer that they don't do reservations, they were super helpful and fast with their waitlist. I really appreciate that they use Toast for their waitlist as it shows you your position in line. I went on a pretty busy Saturday night and they still had my party sat in less than 45 minutes. The service was A+ and we almost never had to ask for anything. I am a heavy water chugger and the waiter consistently made sure we had water and all things we needed. Was very efficient and kind. The interior of the restaurant feels classic while also modern and upkept. I ordered the cucumber salad, chili oil wontons, scallion pancakes, and sliced beef in chili oil. The cucumber salad was maybe one of the best I have ever had with such a gorgeous balance of flavors like spice, umami, sweet, and crisp texture. The scallion pancakes? I am still dreaming of them today. Incredibly light, flaky, and crispy yet still so packed with flavor. The sliced beef dish blew me out of the water not only for quality, but quantity. I felt like I was perpetually fishing beef out of my bowl which feels unheard of these days! For the price? It was such an incredible deal. The food was amazing as expected! We got the original hand pulled noodles with brisket, and it was very tasty. It felt so comforting to eat that I would definitely get it again or even try the spicy version. We also got the popcorn chicken, and it was my FAVORITE! I love the numbing spice it gives and the crunch that comes with every bite. The last item we got were the chili oil dumplings, and I'll say these were sadly very underwhelming. The spice was lacking, and it felt like I was eating a lot of dough. However, overall I'd still say the experience and dishes were great! The service was okay. The server seemed very busy, and he looked like he was in a bad mood the entire time. The food did, however, come out very quick and looked very tasty on presentation. The ambiance was very nice for a restaurant in Argyle - it felt like a hole in the wall spot but with very nice seating and decor. I heard there was parking in a lot as well. Okay. I'm going to be honest. I want to give this place a one star so people stop going and I can go in without waiting but I can't do that. Yoo Yee is absolutely incredible and provides some of the best Asian food in the area (which is impressive given where it's located). The inside is cool, and feels upscale; the service is usually prompt, and truly you can't go wrong with any dish you order. I'm currently trying to eat my way through the menu and have been there four times now and feel there's still plenty to try out. read more

A really great spot to sit down with friends and share authentic Chinese/Asian cuisine. Interior is super relaxed and cute (it's also BYOB). Jajangmyeon is the sleeper pick, so tasty!! This Szechuan restaurant has been so buzzy and popular, but we didn't have to wait too long to get seated. I overall liked it - the menu is really big and for someone not in the Know like me, it's hard to know what to order. For example, we got the fish filet in green peppercorn soup which according to my friend is a staple at Szechuan restaurants and she was really happy and thought it was so good especially compared to other Szechuan restaurants I've been to. We also these spicy handpulled noodles with beef which was delicious. But my friend wanted veggies and we got this garlic eggplant that was too sweet and we felt was more designed for American palates. read more

This is like a mom and pop place. They were busy when I walked in so I was sat at the bar which is fine but the bar was not comfortable. The chairs don't allow for your legs to fit under the counter. I tried the duck which was alright, the beef noodle soup which was great, and the braised pork which was ok. They don't serve alcohol. Their menus are easy to use/read. read more

YooYee is one my favorite Szechuan restaurants in Chicago! I've dined in for lunch and done carry out many time. I don't dine in for dinner because there is always a queue. Every dish I've ordered and eaten from here is a hit. One tip is don't order hot noodle soups to go because the noodles will be all congealed and stuck together when you get home. Noodles are best eaten immediately after being prepared. My favorites are: -Beef tongue in green pepper sauce -Fish filet in chili soup -Cumin lamb -Mountain yam, lotus root, wood ear, snow pea stir fry -Spicy beef noodle soup The Thai iced tea was yummy too You can't go wrong with anything they put out here! read more

Yoo Yee just opened a few months ago in Uptown so we figured we would give it a shot! A smaller spot, but a beautiful interior design! There is limited seating but the servers were nice and able to find us a small table for 2. We decided to try the crispy sticky rice with brown sugar as an appetizer and we were blown away by the crispy outside with a nice soft inside, they were amazing! We were caught of guard because it seemed more like a dessert that we would have preferred to have after our main dishes, but they were so delicious I wanted to get a second order of them! We were very excited to try the hand pulled noodles, and wow they did not disappoint! Absolutely amazing! The noodles were perfect and the broth was absolutely packed with flavor! Both the original and the spicy had very different but delicious flavors. Some of the best noodles that I have had in Chicago for sure. By ordering take-out...Oops, I should have counted better and at least dined in person for this momentous occasion. Anyways... Yoo Yee is consistently on top restaurant lists for Uptown and Chicago as a whole. I deeply apologize for only ordering Americanized chicken lo mein on both visits, and not having something more specialized to review. However, I will say that their lo mein is really good! The majority of the menu is much more authentic - from beef tongue and pork intestines to duck to fermented tofu. I promise I will update my review when I finally explore this side of the menu. For now, though, I can say that I enjoyed the lo mein, the kung pao was a hit, someone in my group found the beef and broccoli lacking flavor, and my husband was a huge huge fan of the pork noodle soup and the cold Szechuan noodles. read more

Came here on Sunday during lunch time and it had a decent amount of people already here which is a good sign. We ordered two appetizers (one Eggplant w/ Green Pepper & one Wonton's in Chili Oil sauce). The first one was delicious. We'd rate it a 9/10. The Wonton's were like a 7/10. The inside of the wonton didn't have a lot of flavor. The chili oil sauce were the only saving grace to help it taste better. As far as the entrees, we ordered the Sliced Beef Tongue w/ Chili Oil Soup. It was HUGE. We weren't expecting such a large portion, but it allowed for more for later in a to-go box. The restaurant is very cozy and cute, and the service was very good! I heard so many good things about this restaurant which made my expectations high and got a bit disappointed. The wontons in chili oil, the eggplant w/ chili oil and the spring rolls were very good and I would go back again to have those again! However their popular items: Spicy Braised Beef Brisket Hand Pull Noodle Soup and the Xinjiang Style Beef were not very good. The noodle soup was salty and the flavors were not my favorites. The Xinjiang Style Beef tasted too strong as cumin. The meat itself was soft and well cooked but the cumin flavor was overpowering. read more

I dropped by here for lunch on a Sunday around noon. It was busy already and a wait for a table. You can put in your name and number at the door...or you can head straight to the bar if seats are open. My friends and I sat at the bar and we had great service. We ordered the spicy wontons, fish w/green peppercorn, and the dan dan noodles. For three of us, this was plenty of food. Super nice staff and very good food Some standouts I like are the shrimp with the crispy stuff on top (Crispy mayo shrimp or whatever), the beef hand pulled noodles, the Szechuan jjangmyeon. The vermicelli shrimp dish I think you can pass, I feel like it's missing something. Some kick or acid or something. Needs something. The green pepper fish is fine, I would strain the peppercorns out but maybe that's too hard to do. I liked the dish but when you get a bite of peppercorn I don't like it as much. Great spot in Argyle with a set parking lot! The restaurant is medium sized with updated interior and modern plating. I came here for lunch on the weekday with my parents. I had a mix of spicy and flavorful dishes. The service was fast & the waiter was understanding when my hungry parents ordered more food after the mains came out. Loved the experience! The food tastes authentic. Packed with flavor- definitely authentic Szechuan spices that may even be too intense for many. We got the potstickers (thick and crispy skin; home made taste), beef tripe in chili oil (very strong flavor- originally doesn't taste too spicy but once you are half way through, you will really feel it), Dan Dan noodle and braised beef brisket hand pulled noodle soup. Noodles are chewy and everything tastes fresh and homey. However, since everything is strong flavored, it was a bit salty overall so next time I will try to get balanced choice of flavors. Portion size was very generous too and great value. Service was good especially for how busy the place was (we went on a Friday evening). No frills but also nothing to complain about. Tl;dr solid Sichuan food right in the heart of Argyle, pretty interior, would recommend. Be prepared for crowds! ===== Showed up at 5ish and thought it would be a little early for the dinner crowd, but we were wrong! It was packed in there and we had to add ourselves to the waitlist using their QR code at the host table. Thankfully we only had to wait 5-10 minutes or so, but as the evening went on we saw more and more people waiting, so plan accordingly! We ordered: - cold chicken appetizer - 3.5/5 - not as flavorful as others I've had, and (minor) the presentation wasn't the usual pretty slab of chicken; y'all should know this, but there are bones! - original braised beef noodle soup - 3.5/5 - technically the noodles are knife-cut vs. hand-pulled, but I really enjoyed the chewy texture. Soup wasn't that flavorful and was a tad salty. Came with some interesting pickles - vermicelli shrimp - 3.8/5 - big portion, and one of the dishes that comes with a gas burner. Server seemed displeased when I turned it off myself, so maybe flag them down if you want any help with toggling it, or just be patient! Super garlicky and generous with the shrimp. Mostly docking points because flavor and execution-wise it seemed fairly straightforward (in my very picky opinion) - green beans - 5/5 - big fan, great flavor and texture, exactly what I wanted All of this before tip was ~$70, and was definitely a lot of food for two people. We ended up bringing back leftovers of everything, except the noodle soup (which we finished! no crime here). According to Reddit this place is run by the same people as Chef Xiong in Chinatown and Peppercorns Kitchen in Evanston. Haven't been to either of those, but if they're anything like this place, they're probably worth a visit! New restaurant. Legit Sichuan food. Might be too challenging for non-Asian Pig kidney and aorta is just how I remembered. Super fresh and crunchy. The only downside is way too much num pepper. And you can't avoid it cause it hides in every corner and inside the gap of every ingredient. Wish they ground it first Popcorn chicken is full of flavor and crispy as well. I came with my family on a weekday afternoon for lunch and there were plenty of open tables. We found street parking but realized that there is free parking in the lot next door. We ordered family style and had the following: original braised beef noodle soup, scallion pancake, fish fillet with pickled vegetable soup, crispy shrimp with mayo and fries, Chongqing popcorn chicken, and peapod shoots with garlic. The food came out quickly and everything was good. The scallion pancake was perfectly crispy while the braised beef noodle soup was flavorful with chewy hand pulled noodles. Our little one enjoyed the crispy shrimp but it didn't taste as good the next day since the fries were pretty soggy. The fish fillet with pickled vegetable soup was spicy for my parents but I didn't think it was too spicy. I also enjoyed that it didn't have ginger inside like at some restaurants. The Chongqing popcorn chicken and peapod shoots were both good but pretty standard. Overall, the menu is fairly large and food was good so will be back to try more! read more

We had a pleasant lunch experience here. Restaurant is bright and very clean. Servers and manager (or whoever checked every table) are super friendly. We read reviews and decided to try pork ribs in spicy garlic, lamb chop stir-fry, chili chicken, spicy braised beef brisket hand pull noodle soup (served w homemade pickled radish), and spicy cabbage stir-fry. We would say the pork ribs could be seasoned a bit more with the spicy garlic, but would recommend all of them for a first time experience , particularly the cabbage stir-fry and lamb chop stir-fry if you like lamb. For the price, I would say it's typical nowadays for eating out. But the service and environment make it worth it. read more

this is the only good chinese restaurant in chicago. kam fung and gourmet food are still on my list to try, but of the places i've tried in my 6 years living here, yoo yee is the only sit down restaurant where i've ordered a variety of dishes without being radically disappointed by any. Went here for brunch with a couple of dear friends and this place did not disappoint. First, the place is a little difficult to find because their signage is WAY up there. The door has no logos or any kind of name. The place is small but well organized and tidy. Service was good and fast. We tried to order the noodles but apparently they ran out of flour - forgivable given that they are know for their hand made noodles (we did see flour delivery coming in while we were eating, they were not lying LOL). We had the scallion pancake which was crispy, not greasy and came with delicious dipping sauce. We also ordered the cumin lamb which was excellent!!! We ordered a couple of vegetable side dishes which were perfect accompaniments. The servings were large so we can't order anything more. The menu is pretty short, which to me is a sign of a focused restaurant that values the quality of their food. This is not your typical China town restaurant with hundreds of items in their menu. I wish this place is closer to me because this can easily be my go-to Asian restaurant. read more

Twice cooked pork, Chinese yam with snow peas, and fish in chili oil (I got the live fish which is delicious but was full of bones so would do regular next time). All excellent.
