Good spot for an affordable quick bite. Restaurant is extremely small with limited seating. We often order take out cause it can get busy on the weekends. I recently ordered a platter for pick up and while the platter looked great the rolls would fall apart as we picked them up with our chopsticks. That was unfortunate. Other than that the quality and quantity does make Yoma very affordable.

We stopped by Yoma Cafe on Irving and ordered the popcorn chicken bento with spicy tuna and gyoza, and overall, this spot really stands out for its value. If you're looking for a place that gives you a lot of food for your money, Yoma Cafe is it. The portions were extremely generous and easily filling. The popcorn chicken leaned more toward karaage-style chicken, juicy, well-seasoned, and satisfying and honestly, no complaints there. The gyoza were solid and paired nicely with the rest of the bento. The only miss for us was the spicy tuna, which unfortunately lacked flavor and didn't really add much to the meal. Overall, Yoma Cafe is a great option if you want value and hearty portions. Just be strategic with your sides, and you'll walk away very satisfied.

We stopped by for lunch today - the tablet wasn't working for orders and the two guys working behind the counter ignored us. We finally left without ordering lunch very disappointed and hungry. We had a delicious friendly Puerto Rican lunch on Haight Street at Parada 22.

I just finished a museum visit and getting hungry. Luckily, we found this place just minutes away. Parking is not as bad as I thought or I just got lucky again. Food (4 stars) + Popcorn chicken bento is a huge portion but it was so good I finished it all + This place is all about customization. I loved how you can change up pretty much anything on the bento. If you're hungry you can even have 2 rice instead of rice/salad! + Beef curry combo is good but I wish the curry sauce was a little warmer. - Beef teriyaki is a huge portion but I was it was a little more tender - Skip the kimchi as Japanese are not known for this. It tastes like ginger kimchi to me. Service (4 stars) + Beef teriyaki bento was quick but rest of the dishes came out way later - My water didn't get refilled but I also didn't ask so not really complaining Ambiance (4 stars) + It's close quarters but cozy with heaters keeping us warm on a chilly day If I lived in the area I'd probably be a regular here. It's a ton of food so great value and pretty good grubbing.

Chicken tonkatsu sandwich and bento box

Came here twice in one week. Food: liked the tonkatsu sandwich, the sushi bogo; the bento box with salmon and tuna, the miso soup, very tasty butterfly pea drink and peach ginger drink. Service is just enough in this tiny space. It feels like being in Japan where every nook and cranny is utilized. Prices are good.

Had a lovely time here last night! Came here around 10pm for a late dinner and so glad we did. We found street parking down the block. They have an impressive menu and so many yummy options, it took us a while to decide. Their self-order kiosk has lots of photos of everything so that was helpful. They have indoor seating and even a selection of board games. I ended up getting the salmon and crab sushi burrito and my partner got the Chicken Katsu. Our friends ordered a couple of different rolls, the salmon sashimi, and the popcorn chicken. Everything was delicious! We were also given complementary miso soup and edamame. We also ordered the ube taro milk and the strawberry matcha latte - both ended up being BOGO so we coincidentally ended up with 4 drinks! Had no idea there was a sale going on but we were really happy about that haha. Service here is incredible! Our waitress was so kind and attentive - when she was bringing out our food, she presented each dish with care and even described the home-made sauces that came with each. The exceptional service, delicious food, amazing BOGO drink deals, and the welcoming ambiance (and activities) definitely deserves 5 stars.

Stopped by while walking the crosstown trail! Lots of options! The fish was ok but kinda expected for a casual spot. They gave us miso soup while we were waiting Great service tho and reasonable prices.

I visited Yoma Cafe with a group of friends to pick up a quick grab n' go lunch after a hike. The tiny restaurant was packed, but there was only a short line to place to-go orders. The menu was slightly overwhelming - there were countless combinations of bento boxes, sushi, snacks, sandwiches, and drinks. I ultimately decided to order a chicken katsu sandwich, since I figured it would be easily portable for a picnic in Golden Gate Park. Once we all placed our orders, there was a very long wait (20-25 minutes) for our orders to come out, one-by-one. We waited outside for our names or order numbers to be called since there wasn't any room inside the restaurant; however, we didn't realize that our food was ready until someone went back inside to check and saw that our food was just sitting on the counter. When we finally picked up our food, walked to the park, and sat down to eat, I was pleased to find my sandwich nicely packaged and still warm despite the chilly weather that day. While I would have preferred fluffier milk bread (this sandwich used regular white bread), I liked the addition of pickle, carrots, and spicy mayo that elevated the sandwich. The chicken cutlet was thin and a bit dry, but it had a nice, crispy texture. The "2 piece" sandwich order was equivalent to a full sandwich, and it was just the right size for a quick grab n' go lunch. Next time I'm in the area, I'll have to try one of the bento boxes so I can sample more of the menu items.

I would say that this place is a 3.5 stars. The staff is friendly and the portion size of one bento box is massive and easily enough to feed two people but the popcorn chicken was pretty bland without the sweet chili sauce. For bang for buck, this is great. We also got the peach green tea bogo and that was great. Overall, I think that this is a fine place to go but just needs to season their chicken.

super comforting food and spot run by some sweet staff! I ordered the Sushi Burrito Combo: Tuna 2pc & Popcorn Chicken & Thai Ice Tea ($17+ post tax) and they gave such huge portions! the chicken was fresh and crispy, and the tuna sushirrito with sushi rice and katsu sauce was good. the thai iced tea was very sweet even at 25% but overall I was happy

This tiny Inner Sunset cafe is exactly the type of bustling spot you might find in a more vintage neighborhood in Tokyo like Yanaka Ginza. With a bright green awning and a colorful menu, it definitely has character and an ebullient owner who greets everyone with enthusiasm, even interlopers like me who aren't from these parts. It appears to draw local families, especially kids, appear to get lunch here. That sounded like a good idea, so I decided to assemble my bento box. It's a convenient a la carte operation where I could pick and choose what I wanted. Bento boxes cost $13.99, and I decided on a combination of Chicken Katsu and Spicy Curry as my entree (Photo 7). It came with pan-fried gyoza, pickled ginger, white rice with fukikake, and a big side salad. A hearty lunch indeed, and luckily there was an open table because otherwise I would've had to walk to Golden Gate Park to eat it. It's good to know it's here. Between this cafe and the sandos at Sakura down the street, I can have my motherland fix with little fuss. FOOD - 4 stars...satisfying homestyle bento boxes AMBIANCE - 4 stars...colorful and not overly crowded SERVICE - 4.5 stars...energetic owner makes you feel welcome TOTAL - 4 stars...motherland eats in the Sunset RELATED - Exploring the Sunset? My new go to place for affordable Japanese food! We stumbled into this place on a whim on the weekend evening, and were immediately welcomed by a friendly hostess Yoyo, a clean restaurant, and a sprawling menu of options. We got a number of things, all of which surprised us with the quantity of food we were given for the price. While none of the dishes were extraordinary, every single one ranged from good to very good for an incredibly affordable price. I don't think I've ever gotten this much Japanese food for this low of a price in San Francisco. The standout was the Melting Salmon Roll, great proportions of fish with a fantastic sear on top. The sandwiches (or burritos) are large with generous servings of protein. This is absolutely worth a visit if you want to eat a bunch of good food for a fair price. Or just to have a normal amount of food for a low price. Or for none of that, visit incredibly friendly Yoyo and her gem of a restaurant.

I wish I had taken a picture of our lunch bento boxes!! However, we quickly began digging in as soon as we got home. The hubby chose the chicken katsu bento with crab, veggie spring roll and gyoza as his 3 sides. I chose the 6 piece sashimi bento with avocado, veggie spring roll and spicy tuna. Tuna, salmon and albacore were the sashimi cuts. They are very generous with their sashimi! The bento also comes with miso soup, your choice of sushi or regular rice and greens (mixed green salad and seaweed salad) I am so impressed and proud of Yoyo for creating such a beautiful little restaurant. But don't be fooled - it may be tiny but there are so many delicious options to choose from! You order from the touch screen and it can seem a bit overwhelming because there are many tabs and options to choose from but once you know what you want I think JT's pretty easy to find the item. There was an older woman who stepped aside and mentioned that she couldn't figure out what to do. I should've helped her but we ordered and before I could offer to show her, she walked out. This is a great bang for your buck place. With hearty, tasty food. I continue to look forward to trying more of the different dishes as everything that I saw served looked really great. Thanks Yoyo!

Very tiny spot and not much seating, so you're either taking it to go or you're praying there's a chair and a counter that's free. No big deal since I've been to other Japanese curry places like this. I've had a mix bag where the katsu was deliciously crispy and moist on the inside and days where the meat inside is dry, even drenched in curry. Hot curry sauce is Japanese hot, so it has spices in it but not spicy at all. The workers do their best for the lunch rush, so that's a plus at least. Parked easily on the side street, walked in around 3:30 in the afternoon, no hassle. The place has an authentic Japanese cafe feel, the kind where the menu has things you don't typically find at your average sushi spot. I had my eye on the sandos, specifically the Chicken Katsu Sando, but landed on the Spicy Tuna Don instead. Good call. Spicy yellowfin tuna tartare over well-seasoned sushi rice, topped with sesame, furikake, green onions, with a little radish and cucumber on the side. The tuna was very fresh, the rice was on point. Service was quick and polite - they even have an outside window for takeout. One nice detail: a neat dollop of wasabi is pasted along the inside wall of the bowl, which is a clean way of letting you control exactly how much heat you want to mix in. Tasteful presentation, but don't let that fool you. It has a legitimate kick, so calibrate accordingly. Paired it with their Honjozo dry sake cup, which was a nice complement to the meal and exactly the right call for a mid-afternoon bite. The sandos looked great on other tables and I fully intend to go back for the Chicken Katsu Sando - and then go try the wine bar next door to it. which was pretty tempting.
