We ordered a chicken katsu sandwich $7.99, a 8 pieces chirashi bowl and 2 drinks for $55+. The katsu sandwich was good. Chicken was thin but i liked the crunch. Basically a deep fried piece of breaded thin chicken with lots of greens and some carrots. The 8 pieces of chirashi was indistinguishable from one another even though they were all different fish. Had a lovely time here last night! Came here around 10pm for a late dinner and so glad we did. We found street parking down the block. They have an impressive menu and so many yummy options, it took us a while to decide. Their self-order kiosk has lots of photos of everything so that was helpful. They have indoor seating and even a selection of board games. I ended up getting the salmon and crab sushi burrito and my partner got the Chicken Katsu. Our friends ordered a couple of different rolls, the salmon sashimi, and the popcorn chicken. Everything was delicious! We were also given complementary miso soup and edamame. We also ordered the ube taro milk and the strawberry matcha latte - both ended up being BOGO so we coincidentally ended up with 4 drinks! Had no idea there was a sale going on but we were really happy about that haha. Service here is incredible! Our waitress was so kind and attentive - when she was bringing out our food, she presented each dish with care and even described the home-made sauces that came with each. I visited Yoma Cafe with a group of friends to pick up a quick grab n' go lunch after a hike. The tiny restaurant was packed, but there was only a short line to place to-go orders. The menu was slightly overwhelming - there were countless combinations of bento boxes, sushi, snacks, sandwiches, and drinks. I ultimately decided to order a chicken katsu sandwich, since I figured it would be easily portable for a picnic in Golden Gate Park. Once we all placed our orders, there was a very long wait (20-25 minutes) for our orders to come out, one-by-one. We waited outside for our names or order numbers to be called since there wasn't any room inside the restaurant; however, we didn't realize that our food was ready until someone went back inside to check and saw that our food was just sitting on the counter. When we finally picked up our food, walked to the park, and sat down to eat, I was pleased to find my sandwich nicely packaged and still warm despite the chilly weather that day. While I would have preferred fluffier milk bread (this sandwich used regular white bread), I liked the addition of pickle, carrots, and spicy mayo that elevated the sandwich. The chicken cutlet was thin and a bit dry, but it had a nice, crispy texture. The "2 piece" sandwich order was equivalent to a full sandwich, and it was just the right size for a quick grab n' go lunch. Next time I'm in the area, I'll have to try one of the bento boxes so I can sample more of the menu items. read more

My new go to place for affordable Japanese food! We stumbled into this place on a whim on the weekend evening, and were immediately welcomed by a friendly hostess Yoyo, a clean restaurant, and a sprawling menu of options. We got a number of things, all of which surprised us with the quantity of food we were given for the price. While none of the dishes were extraordinary, every single one ranged from good to very good for an incredibly affordable price. I don't think I've ever gotten this much Japanese food for this low of a price in San Francisco. The standout was the Melting Salmon Roll, great proportions of fish with a fantastic sear on top. The sandwiches (or burritos) are large with generous servings of protein. This is absolutely worth a visit if you want to eat a bunch of good food for a fair price. The hubby chose the chicken katsu bento with crab, veggie spring roll and gyoza as his 3 sides. I chose the 6 piece sashimi bento with avocado, veggie spring roll and spicy tuna. Tuna, salmon and albacore were the sashimi cuts. They are very generous with their sashimi! The bento also comes with miso soup, your choice of sushi or regular rice and greens (mixed green salad and seaweed salad) I am so impressed and proud of Yoyo for creating such a beautiful little restaurant. But don't be fooled - it may be tiny but there are so many delicious options to choose from! You order from the touch screen and it can seem a bit overwhelming because there are many tabs and options to choose from but once you know what you want I think JT's pretty easy to find the item. There was an older woman who stepped aside and mentioned that she couldn't figure out what to do. I should've helped her but we ordered and before I could offer to show her, she walked out. Had a group hangout at this cafe and we arrived not expecting much. However we left filled with joy from the food and the welcoming atmosphere. Their menu is quite diverse and I tried their popcorn chicken and seared fish bento with salmon and hamachi. While we were waiting Yoyo the owner offered us miso while we waited which was light and delicious. The popcorn chicken was really crispy and hit the spot would definitely recommend. The bento box was massive and I liked being able to choose the sides I wanted. We also ordered a spicy salmon roll for the table which was buy one get one free -- super value! Overall i enjoyed the fish and its quality and you can't really go wrong with anything. I wanted to eat salmon so I returned to Yoma and didn't introduce myself to comp my order based on my review a year ago. (See her reply.) I noticed the menu has changed more towards Japanese food and ordered a teriyaki salmon to go. Yoyo gave me a peach iced tea while I waited...thank you! This is a simple tiny shop with a few tables and bar seatings. However, they seem to have a lot of takeout orders and earned many regulars who knew Yoyo. Her hospitality is clearly the highlight of this place! At home, my cat took a sniff and wanted my meal. The salmon was a wee bit dry but was nicely crispy on the outside. This is a very small restaurant. We thought we had made reservations for 6 people, but when we got there they did not have our reservations made on Google? Luckily it was not busy so they were able to get a table of 6 set up for us. Big menu board above the cashier where you are suppose to order on a computer screen, which was a little confusing to us but the owner, YoYo, said she would take our order if that was easier. YoYo the owner was super friendly. After we ordered our meals, she brought over banchan dishes, which I think was on the house? She served us edamame, kimchee and seaweed salad. There are varieties of choices on the menu but most of us ordered bento boxes. The food was good, portions were generous and the service was excellent. We were all served a large cup of green tea in a to go cup with a lid! As we were ready to leave, YoYo made us eggettes to share with condensed milk dip. That was like a surprise dessert to us. All six of us agreed Yoma Cafe was a great find and would definitely be back to try other menu selections in the future. We ordered a seared tuna bento with some toppings like ikura, avocado, and a crab salad hand roll on the side. Everything was really fresh and the fish quality was great. Same for the tonkatsu sando w/ spicy mayo which has mixed greens in it. The pork is thin spices but like the chunky pork you see in a usual Japanese sando. You can pick any drink or side to go with it for a combo that's less than $15. The ube taro milk I got for the side was nothing super special, kind of tastes like the nostalgic taro you got from quicklys. I will try something like their coffee boba next time. I was craving for a quick bento lunch and happened upon Yoma Cafe. You just look up at the menu fast-food style, order from the cashier, and the food get delivered to you. There were several customers who ordered take out but I ate indoors. They offer board games for customers if you are so inclined. I got a bento with unagi teriyaki, which came with sides which were not the usual maki rolls but spring rolls and something like deconstructed sushi and added an upgrade of ikura sashimi (salmon roe) for $3. My hubby ordered a beef teriyaki bento and the burrito like sushi wrap with shrimp. Yoma Cafe has quickly become one of my favorite spots in the city. It's super easy to get there via transit, which is very important to me (the N Judah, 7 Haight/Noriega, 28 19th Avenue, and 29 Sunset stop nearby). The restaurant is very small, but I've never had an issue with having to wait to sit down. Yo-Yo is incredibly welcoming and friendly; she loves to give hugs, get to know new customers, and catch up with regulars. She's really devoted to customer service and I really appreciate that. I'm ready to try other dishes, but I cannot get enough of the Salmon Teriyaki. It's just perfect -- the sauce has a special sweetness to it that I haven't tasted at most restaurants. The dish is made even better with the orange squeezed over the salmon and rice. The sushi rice is incredible with this dish, by the way! 100% recommend this spot. We were starving after a walk in GGP and found this cute place nearby. The place is small, but they're clever with how the seating is organized, so it doesn't feel too cramped. The menu is huuuge and the portions are great too. I highly recommend the popcorn chicken- we got a size small, but there was more chicken than I've seen at a lot of other places. It's also not too oily and full of that delicious crunch. They did forget about the drinks we ordered, but quickly amended it and gave us a bonus drink. Went here for a Sunday lunch at 11:30. Only one person, the cook was on duty, and we barely communicated with him. YC is an order on your phone or at the counter kiosk restaurant. It's really a mostly take-out place with a very large menu, so large that the cook did not know where some of the ingredients or instructions were located. We believe he was the hot food chef as he didn't prepare the sushi rolls. Also didn't know how to make a Matcha Latte. He was talking on the phone with someone who was giving him instructions, likely a co-worker who was late. Forty minutes after ordering, the owner and the sushi roll chef show up and we start receiving drinks and food. We wondered why it said our order would be ready for pick-up at 12:10 when we ordered at 11:40 and we were the only customers?!! The owner makes the Matcha Latte and the other guy makes the rolls when they show up. The food was ok but we were very disappointed in having to wait for drinks, 40 minutes (lemonade, coke, and iced matcha latte), and a little more time for our rolls and warm food. There are specials listed on a board, like buy this and get this free or discounted, however, we couldn't find the specials on the electronic menu and the line cook at opening couldn't help us as he didn't know the computer system and we didn't know enough Spanish. Although we were able to communicate with him when he said he couldn't make the Matcha Latte and we changed it to a Brown Sugar Milk Tea. The owner came in subsequently and completed the Matcha order - she knew where the Matcha powder was located! TBH, she was out until around 12 noon purchasing ingredients and products for the restaurant. Tough to be a small restaurant / cafe owner.
