Quite unassuming exterior but once you enter it's a cozy and spacious space. Service was efficient, no issues whatsoever. My friend got the Curry katsu, which came as a generous portion. The chicken was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The curry sauce was good but my friend had wanted it to be a bit spicier/hotter and thicker. But it mixed well with the rice and the rice soaked it up nicely. Again Big portion was given for this dish . My two other companions ordered rolls including the "Warrior" and "Rome and Juliet" rolls- they thought the fish was fresh and the roll had Not too much rice so you get more flavor and texture of The fish. I myself had the omakase sushi which was done well. No complaints there. I had a glass of umeshu plum wine but I think I've "outgrown" this type of drink since it was WAY TOO sweet for me. I was up for an early evening something. I couldn't decide. I was trying to go to this Mexican spot near by, but was closed! I decided to go to Bento Peak as I always pass by it. On a Thursday early evening, 5pm, I was the only one present. It's a quaint little spot, and is comfortable. I was greeted politely, but the server deff didn't seem like she wanted to be there (I mean who wants to work lol, but still). Later in the meal, an elderly couple came in. They were sweet and tried to make some convo and the server just did NOT make the time of day. She didn't even come check in on me just to see how the meal was-- and there was only 2 groups in the place (plus me) and she walked by me probably 20+ times. It's the little things :) I got a three piece bento-- katsu, teriyaki salmon, and grilled fish. The miso came out asap and was nice and hot. The katsu was crispy and hot, tasted clean. The salmon as well, grilled nicely and tasted quite clean and fresh. For a three piece Bento (w/Miso), and a Diet Coke, the total was $26.65. I'd give it a 3.6/5. Nothing crazy, but not bad, good score for clean meats. This is a nice casual spot. If you find yourself on Geary, and wanting a Bento, stop in. I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Nothing stood out in terms of flavor or preparation, but nothing was poor. I've only had maybe one other bento spot so far in the city (and it got me sick). Everything was delicious. You can't go wrong with the mixed tempura, which is crispy and fresh; it came with two shrimp and a handful of mixed vegetables like potato, carrot, broccoli, shishito. Miso cod was tender and buttery, but presentation was awful; instead of one piece, it was served as three small slices and looked sloppy on the plate. Hamachi kama was nice, flakey, and moist and it came with a salty and tart dipping sauce. Omakase is a decent affordable option; it's decent quality, and chef gave a variety of fish. Service is pretty standard and our waters were refilled promptly. Depending on how many dishes you order, your dining table can get crowded quickly. My friend and I came here on a Friday night for dinner for their birthday. The waitress was on top of everything. She served us our drinks immediately as we sat down. We kind of knew what we wanted before we arrived and we put in our orders. She was nice enough to tell us that we qualified for a free hamachi kama because we ordered over 100.00. iI've been to places where they don't tell you, so I appreciate her honesty. We got the grilled squid, hamachi carpaccio, and two orders of the sashimi omakase box. The portions of the food were huge! The grilled squid itself almost filled me up. Here's the majority of what we ordered, though I lost count: SUSHI DELUXE WITH DRAGON ROLL ~ This was a nice set and the dragon roll was good. 4/5 SASHIMI COMBO (21 PCS) ~ Presentation was okay, but possibly putting the salmon in the middle would have made it prettier since all the other fish are pink or white. 4/5 TORO TARTAR ~ My daughter wanted to try this. Though this dish didn't stand out. Maybe some seasoning like furikake on top besides the raw quail egg, would have made it tastier. 3/5 BEEF TERIYAKI ~ The beef didn't look appetizing. The food quality itself wasn't anything special, I put together a bento consisting of tempura, tonkotsu, and a sake avocado roll. I've had better tonkotsu and sake avocado rolls elsewhere; the tonkotsu was dry and thin and the salmon didn't feel the freshest. We ended lunch by sharing fried ice cream which I used to order at another Japanese restaurant years back. This one was green matcha. The kitchen split the ice cream into 4 quarters. I visited with a friend on a Friday evening for dinner. She made reservations but the restaurant was pretty empty (only 2 other tables were occupied at 7PM) so reservations are not necessary. We shared the tuna tartare, which featured the largest tuna cubes that I've ever seen in a tartare preparation. The dish also needed some acid & more ponzu because it didn't have much flavor. We also had the bacon covered shrimp, which was ok. The chicken karaage was decent but not memorable. The midnight oyster was probably the best item that we had but overall, our experience was underwhelming so we decided not to continue with ordering additional items or cocktails. We closed out our bill & left. Not sure if I would give them a second chance.
