Went for lunch yesterday. Clean, cozy, has all the comfort food items you would expect from a restaurant. Fast, friendly and they let us just hang out and chat when we were done. No rush for us. Came here on a Sunday evening! Excellent food. I was a huge fan of the garlic sake poke appetizer and so strongly recommend that item over any of the rolls I tried. I got the sushi for 2 and would not return for a couple reasons. 1. Over half of them were overly fishy and I had times it was difficult to eat 2. The rice was too warm and my sushi felt almost uncomfortably warm at times, but I realized that the sushi counter fridge was often left open 3. The rice was a bit more gummy than I would like, felt more like a hard stacked rice ball that was a tad bit too sweet. 4. A lot of sauce on each piece felt like it was overpowering or trying to hide something about the fish. Service was good and ambiance was more like a mom and pop shop that I really loved. We were the first ones seated but soon others started coming in at 6pm and by 6:30pm all tables were full. The sushi was fresh and yummy. The service was also attentive and the rolls came out quite quickly but probably because we were the first ones there. The interior was also nice and inviting with lots of nice decor with flowers and sake and beer bottles on the walls. The prices were also quite reasonable for sushi and for the city. We ordered various rolls such as SF Giants, Niners and spider roll. Will definitely be back again when I'm in the mood for sushi in the city. We ordered 4 rolls: - MAYBE Super Q Roll / Marine Boy Roll (I had a hard time figuring out what I ordered because the photos I took of the food didn't match up with the menu / too many things look similar. Both were baked rolls and just tasted mid because pieces would be falling apart and overkilled with the sauce. - SF Giants Roll (3/5 - honestly not sure if this was what we actually got because there were lemon slices on top of the salmon but nowhere on their menu has rolls with lemon slices or I misread ???) - Tuxedo Roll / (2/5 - I enjoyed most of this dish but something that they didn't mention from the menu was that they add this mango sauce which ruined the flavor palette of the entire roll; I get having unique sauces are good but there was already spicy sauce and mayo so the mango overpowered everything) Overall, I feel like they douse their rolls with sauce which killed it for me and each piece would be falling apart: just not a roll place I guess. read more

Came at around 6:30pm on a Thursday and got seated right away. Food was ready in no time, and I was very, very impressed. In terms of quality, I'd put this in my top 3 of all sushi places I've tried in SF so far. My favorite was The Boat. It was essentially a 10 piece Omakase with various assortments of Sashimi mixed in. The Sashimi was very high quality; both the tuna and salmon were very fresh and flavorful. The Nigiri was a little less impressive, but still solid nonetheless. The overall presentation was phenomenal. (5/5) The Yosemite Roll was really solid. Nothing special, but a somewhat unique roll featuring tuna deep fried in tempura and topped with Masago. It's one of the cheaper options on the menu, but was still very tasty and filling. We did end up ordering it and it was a nice starter to tie us over until the omakase was ready (which actually wasn't that long). The omakase here is worth the wait, with generous cuts of fresh fish with equally delicious toppings like uni, shiso leaf, ikura, etc. I also appreciated that they provided fresh wasabi instead of the gummy textured stuff. My only gripe was that the waitress that delivered our omakase didn't know what each of the fish was. By the end of our meal we were just chatting and we saw a cockroach on the wall next to us :(... Went today for lunch. Many items were fresh and tasted good. Ordered the #2 lunch bento with salmon sashimi, hamachi nigiri, and spicy tuna roll. This is a premium meal option at almost $25. This was a mistake. The spicy tuna roll came out brown, soggy in mayonnaise and fish looking old and discolored. Hamachi nigiri had an inhumane amount of wasabi applied running the first nigiri before I could scrape it off for the second. For the spicy tuna roll, it did not meet my criteria off attempting a bite. I tried to send it back and ask for exchange for a salmon maki as I did not wish to see another attempt at spicy tuna if they would allow something like this to come out. Unfortunately the English of the staff was not the greatest. Server thought I was asking if the roll was a salmon maki and did not understand my concern. She brought the chef out who I explained my issue with the color to. He tried to tell me the color was normal because it was sitting in the sauce. Not sure if he understood my exchange request but left without any other consideration on the roll which looked like dog food on avocado. I will say, I didn't love some of the flavor pairings of the nigiri... for example, some of them had hidden wasabi or siracha under the fish which is not my preference (personally have a very low spicy tolerance) - a tip about that when being served would have been nice. Along with whatever you order, you also get a complimentary starter, which isn't anything amazing (usually an egg roll, but I more recently got cold pickled cucumbers), but certainly appreciated. Also, it's worth mentioning again that if you prefer your nigiri more straightforward and/or traditional, you may want to adjust your expectations, as they're all "dressed" in some way. Note that the hours posted on Yelp are slightly off. This restaurant opens again for dinner at 5, what is closed after lunch till then. We came here to try the omakase, but they did not have it for that night. They were also out of other fish for some Nigiri that we asked for. Of all the dishes we tried: Tempura udon: Good portions - lots of tempura that were freshly fried. Agedashi tofu: Good portions - wish it had a bit more flavor Nigiri: Really fresh! The uni and ika (squid) in particular were really good. Double sake roll: This one was also good. You can't really go wrong with salmon and avocado. Lion king roll: Would not get again. This was very mayo and cheese heavy. We typically like the lion king roll from other places, but didn't really like it here. We would skip on this roll and get some thing else next time. Came here to celebrate my friends bday and we ordered a lot of food. And of course beers & sake lol. The restaurant was kind of small but very homey feel to it. We didn't have to wait and the servers were great and quick to get us fed! We ordered a couple rolls, gyoza and the sushi platter. Super filling and great quality fish! read more
