The salmon is perfectly browned and the sauce is nice and sweet, none of that weird garlic mayo stuff some places put on their lion king. Their sashimi is also pretty fresh and tasty, especially the salmon. Ramen is passable, not too different from what you'd get at a Ramen 101 but nothing special. Currently they seem to be going through some supply shortages; their Lemon Salmon rolls, which are normally excellent, are coming with orange slices instead of lemon. And last week their hamachi was real hamachi, this time they just gave me tuna. Still good stuff, but you might not get exactly what you ordered. read more

It costs a little over $13 with tax if I remember correctly; totally worth it! To be honest, I was about to cancel my order after placing it because someone came out from the kitchen with his mask below his nose. Unfortunately, there is no way for anyone ordering to see the kitchen because there is a curtain covering the kitchen. I went up to the counter and politely asked him to put his mask above his nose, because it made me feel uncomfortable, as there is a pandemic going on. He did so and apologized, which I appreciate, so I didn't cancel my order. The customer service here was wonderful, hence the 5-star review, and it took around 15 minutes for me to get my Lion King, as they said it would. Generally speaking, I do not order at restaurants/food places unless I can see the kitchen and see that the people making the food are following COVID-19 safety protocols. However, my boyfriend has ordered here many times and the person who came out of the kitchen with his mask below his nose was very understanding and accommodating regarding my request, so I decided to go through with my order. Hidden gem of a sushi spot. Located in the Marina Village shopping center on Alameda's West End. They do to-go as well as dine-in. They have an amazing assortment of sushi rolls - probably the most extensive sushi roll menu I've seen. Today we had the Lemon Salmon, Island, and Philadelphia rolls, as well as some salmon sashimi. The fish was fresh and delicious. The rolls were put together nicely. The salmon sashimi portion was very generous, with eight pieces. The restaurant is clean and the servers are very friendly. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. Large parking lot right outside. The Bonito Dragon (crab meat, avocado, cucumber, unagi, bonito) was the most subtle tasting while the Awesome Roll (deep fried shrimp, crab meat, cucumber, unagi, avocado, ebi, spicy sauce) and the Lion Prince (spicy tuna, salmon, crab meat, tobiko & green onions) were more flavorful/saucy. They were good but not amazing. I have my other go-to sushi spots too maybe I'm just accustomed to their rolls. I really liked the salad tho; it had some light dressing w/ mayo mixed w/ some other stuff I think. I ordered for the second time from Yo today, and both times I found the sushi perfect for what it purports itself to be. This is not a high-end sushi experience, which is why I gave it 4 stars (I have to reserve 5 stars for the gifted sushi chefs in the Bay Area who are doing something akin to fine art with their cuisine). But for very fresh, perfectly constructed, reasonably priced, consistent sushi, Yo gets the job done. I tend to be a sushi purist, but my friend ordered several rolls from the VERY extensive menu of options, and they were excellent (special props for the Lemon Salmon and the vegetarian rolls - the burdock root maki was perfectly balanced, with great crunch and fantastic umami flavor for the incredible price of $4!). I have been ordering from Yo Sushi for years; it is good food, made quickly but well, and the wait staff is usually very friendly. Yesterday I ordered placed a fairly large order, with my usual appetizer (edamame), the nigiri and sashimi combo, and and order of tobiko nigiri. When I opened the combo I was dismayed to see no wasabi in the dish. Then I looked at one of the nigiri and didn't see any wasabi on that either. After tasting it and confirming the lack of the spicy condiment I called the restaurant. I was told they NEVER put wasabi on the nigiri! I have eaten nigiri in NYC, LA, SF, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Tokyo. Never have I heard of using NO wasabi on the food. I was told by the person who answered the phone she would call her manager and find out what they could do. Of course, I got no return call and frankly, didn't expect one. I work not too far from here but never came because I've heard not so good reviews from people. I decided to come in on my lunch because I didn't feel like going far. I get in and didn't realize it's a order from the counter place. So I sit down waiting for a menu and then I see the order here sign hanging from the counter lol. The lady at the counter looked at me and said "what do you want". I was kinda taken aback but just laughed it off because I know how Asian people could be. I wasn't that hungry so I just got the nigiri special and fried oysters. Came up to about 20 bucks which I think is pretty reasonable. Food comes out in less than 10 minutes and it looked pretty good. The fried oysters were average. I thought the sauce they served them with was on the sweet side. The nigiri itself tasted pretty fresh and didn't have any smell with the fish. I wish I would have got a spicy tuna roll instead of the California roll, but I seen later you can exchange items for an extra charge, darn it. So not the worst sushi spot around. Salad - 5 - simple, well dressed and served cold. Hamachi Kama - 0 - they were out of stock. Agedashi Tofu - 3 - was okay. wouldn't order it again. California Roll - 3 - supermarket quality. Gourmet Sashimi Combo - 3 - decent quantity for the price but somewhat bland. Hamachi and Salmon were good. Seafood Tempura Combo - 2 - container of dipping sauce was too small and difficult to dip items into it. notice that each seafood has a different color breading? that tells me that each one comes to the restaurant breaded and most likely frozen. either the fish was in ninja mode and blended in with the other seafood or they forgot to give us any. wasn't worth complaining about. I had my eye set on Yo Sushi months ago but always hesitated to give it a try. I finally gave it a try and I was impressed on the menu and variety of sushi rolls. I liked it so much that I came back a week later. Very decent quality and inexpensive. I noticed the majority of the sushi rolls are 6pc. They take a regular roll and cut it into 6 pieces which comes out into 6 big pieces. You definitely get your moneys worth. The restaurant is clean and you're greeted as you walk in. Attentive and nice staff is always a plus. I believe this establishment opens and stays open all through closing time. The prices match the quality in my opinion. The fish in the rolls are fresh and the flavor is good. There are a lot of varieties of rolls to choose from. Although in case you may not be into spicy rolls, be sure to ask if the sauces they include on the rolls are spicy. My friend ordered the Scorpion Roll and the description said "special sauce" but didn't indicate that it was spicy and she had to scrap it off her roll. Besides the scorpion roll we had the Giant (which wasn't big but still good and included a good portion of fish), Bonito Dragon, and the Cherry Blossom. The atmosphere was quaint with cute pictures on the wall. The place is small and looks more like an order and take-out place but it's clean. The servers were nice and were efficient and reliable. Overall this is a good spot if you need a quick sushi fix but from the rolls I had so far I think they all faired well but didn't completely wow me either. But to each their own!
