Oldie but goodie. This is my go to place for a lunch bento. The staff is friendly and the food always comes out quick. If you're in the mood, definitely try the masu sake. The sushi is cool. It's not the best in Oakland but it's good for the price. Parking is street parking on grand, so meters and usually tight

We were chillin until the Days Like This event picked up, this was across the block so here was our experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking moreover, it can get pretty busy. Seating: Inside seating great for groups. Maybe room for 20 people total Vibes: Oakland is Oakland. It definitely has its rough edges but also its beauty. Lake Merritt is a pleasant unifying spot for many events and commercial businesses just like Coach Sushi. The spot itself is small and intimate, it emulates Japanese culture from its wooden decor and sushi bar setup but also mixed with some good K-pop. Great place to unwind and dine. FOOD: Baked Scallop (Recommend) I love me a good baked scallop, and this did not disappoint. Scallop was soft and mixed in with eel sauce, crab meat, avocado, tobiko (roe-fish eggs), all well charred. You're in for a warm umami delight. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Tina was great! Really friendly, especially to our friend when she found out it was her birthday. TL; DR OVERALL: 4 Stars. Wonderful. Great selections, delicious food, and reasonable prices. If you're in the area, this is a solid sushi space to check out. I appreciated the friendly vibes and good food. Arigatō! TIPS: * Check out their daily specials!

Recent reviews don't do this place justice. We came on a random Tuesday night 8pm and the place was empty, but literally not for long. Within ten minutes the place was buzzing with patrons so we were intrigued. A local 3.7 star (at the time) sushi restaurant we were willing to take a chance on and we were so glad we did. This is one of the best sushi experiences we have had in Oakland. Service was great, super attentive host and the food preparation was timely with eye widening rolls that are very delicious. We ordered a nice spread from appetizers to dessert and I highly recommend staying all the way through this course. More on that later.... For apps we tried the spicy garlic edamame (must try!), cucumber sesame salad (very tasty), and miso soup. For the rolls, skip the basic common ones and skip to the speciality page because it is worth it. We had the Titanic roll (5 ), the Bluefin Truffle, and the Spider Mania (5 ) rolls. All very fresh, tasty, textured, yum. For dessert, THIS PLACES MAKES THEIR OWN ICE CREAM! MULTIPLE FLAVORS! All natural made from simple ingredients and fruits without additives. We tried the mango ice cream and finished the half pint on the spot it was so good. We will definitely order these options again for sure!

My favorite casual sushi restaurant in Oakland. I have probably been here more often than any other sushi spot in the bay. Amazing service, great rolls, and they have sake from a masu cup. What more could you ask for? The servers name is fittingly Happy because that's what she is on any given day. The other servers are great too, don't get me wrong, but she has such great energy. Crazy to me that this place (as of writing) only has a 3.7 on Yelp- just goes to show sometimes you have to look past the reviews and try something out for yourself!

Love this place! It changed hands over the years but the current owners brought the best of a modern sushi restaurant & old charm together in a new package. The fish is excellent quality, fresh and not previously frozen. Appetizers and dishes are well done, modern and leave your craving to try more of them. Bottomless sake is a great surprise that came from the original owner. Highly recommend this place, can't wait to go back!

Nigiri here was very good. Fresh and good quality. Was a little disappointed with the rolls that I tried. Didn't taste great and would fall apart easily. Would not order rolls here again.

Coach sushi is a classic sushi spot that I used to go to way back like 15 years ago. They were known for the "coach" who comes around to refill your sake. Let me say, a few things have changed since then and a few things have not! The refill on the bottomless sake for a reasonable price is still there. The sake is $10 per order and as long as you spend $25 on food, you can get unlimited refills within a 2 hour limit! What's changed is that their sake is of good quality. It's a beautiful bottle that tastes good and they still pour it in the little box. Now let me get to the food, the food has really stepped up since they changed owners last year and got a new sushi chef. They import fresh ingredients overnight from Japan. I had so many favorites that I tried! Their Bluefin truffle roll omg. If you like fatty tuna and truffle, get ready for a foodgasm! Their titanic roll was massive, such a great value and exploding with flavors. I think it can feed like 2 people! The sashimi platter was my highlight. I've been to dozens of omakases in the city, but this is probably one of the freshest and best fish in Oakland. So perfectly sliced, and they also have seated wagyu! As for their other dishes, karage is so fresh and crispy, the seasoning isn't like most restaurants. It has fresh slices of garlic. EBI shrimp with egg was so sweet. And their tempura wasn't overly battered! Lastly end with homemade icecream of all unique flavors including my favorite black sesame. I have to say the quality of their sushi from when I remembered it 15 years ago truly surpassed my expectations. You have to give Coach sushi a try especially if you haven't been in the last year! @jetsetjanine

The food is always fresh. I love the staff and you can buy the shirts from them lol I got one. I love coming here because after you pay $25 on your meal if you pay an extra $15 unlimited sake for 2 hours

This place has a very cute and a little bit traditional Japanese decor! Very busy street and easy to find!it's mostly clean, for sure... which for some parts of lake Merritt is rare. The service is great! Although I came on a cloudy night windy day the staff were very attentive and happy go lucky! Love that!!! All the food was fresh, fresh, fresh, which makes it all the more tasty! The hot green tea hit the spot on this chill day. If you want quality Japanese food and a Sapporo, this is your spot!!! The price is reasonable for lake Merritt prices! A lot of street parking! Clean restroom.

    Poor to-go plastic ware.

Ordered a takeout order for lunch, and I was told it was a 10 minute wait. 35 minutes later, I finally got my food. Another customer, while I was waiting, sat down, ordered and got his food before I did. The place wasn't busy, and the staff seemed lazy and bored. On top of everything, their to-go container melted and poured half of my lunch all over my car seat. I would not recommend this place to anyone, and there are better Japanese restaurants in the area to dine at.

We were seated about an hour later, but once we got in, the service was quick and efficient. We ordered a mix of items to share: * Enoki chips - absolutely addicting. Perfectly crispy with a great crunch, and the umami spice on the side took them to another level. * Chicken karaage - tasty overall, but the glaze was poured over everything. I would've preferred it on the side to keep the texture crisp. * Kani hand roll - super fresh and flavorful; didn't even need soy sauce. * Ikura & hotate hand roll - generous portion and very fresh, again no soy needed. * Garlic Knockout ramen - lives up to the name. Rich, deeply garlicky broth that was bold and delicious. * Signature smoked toripaitan ramen - flavorful without being overly heavy (which I prefer). The chashu was tender and the noodles tasted fresh. I was blown away by the food, I haven't had ramen this good in a long time. The restaurant clearly runs efficiently, turning tables quickly despite the wait. I'll definitely be back

For starters, we got the enoki chips, and they were such a fun, unique treat. Super crispy with a great texture, I'd absolutely order them again. We also tried the Tada bun. It was good, but it felt like it was missing something to really make it pop. I really appreciated the variety on the menu, especially the starters and curries. There are so many options that I'd definitely come back to try something different next time. If you're vegan, this is actually a great spot. They have three vegan ramen options, which felt special since most places only offer one. My partner ordered the spicy vegan ramen and thought it was terrific, though we both agreed the broth wasn't as rich as we're used to. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, but unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. The broth felt a bit underwhelming, and the pork flavor came across stronger than I expected. That said, I'd definitely come back, especially because of the thoughtful vegan options. Next time, I'll probably try the Chashu Bowl, which looked really good when it came out at another table. The space isn't very big, so it's probably not ideal for groups larger than 4-6, but it would be great for a casual date night or cozy lunch.

Both really good. I had to refrain from drinking and eating it all so I didn't get full before my food came. Would order both again. (Maybe add some liquor in the lemonade lol ) For my main dish, I went with the 10 piece nigiri omakase and upgraded $10 to include toro. Pieces of fish were huge and delicious. Surprisingly the toro wasn't my favorite but still was really good! The shrimp head was a nice treat! I ordered dessert even though I was stuffed cause I couldn't help myself: matcha tres leche (which I was told was their most popular dessert). It didn't disappoint! Restaurant was clean and well taken care of. They were updating the signs on the window as well which I'm sure is going to look great. If you're in the area, give them a try. Already looking forward to my next visit!

The space is very cozy, quiet, almost unassuming. For a Saturday evening, there were only 3-4 parties around us. I was relieved as some of our favorite sushi spots in this area tend to require reservations. We were welcomed graciously and were happy to hear the staff's recommendations. SALMON SPECIAL: !!! Pretty unique! I loved the beet-marinated salmon, this was nice and sweet. The green curry was interesting, though outshone by the former. TUNA TATAKI: A LOT of topping for a tataki...! Like overflowing! I liked it ^_^ But a lot of onion and texture. I mainly was curious towards the ponzu soy mayo, which didn't fail to be bright and flavorful. BACON OF THE SEA: My partner is the BIGGEST fan of salmon skin so this was a must-have. SO good. Crispy outside, tender inside, plus all the fatty goodness throughout. SAKE DON: Supa fresh!! With thick cuts. The rice is seasoned well, not too sour. I could've done without the lemon slices, but it might be someone else's cup of tea. Overall, pretty solid sake don :3 We got lucky with parking and found a spot across the street... But I'd come a bit earlier to scout out the area if you've driving.
