    3 Item Dinner Bento
    Amanda C.

I was craving a hefty bento box and decided to get delivery from Hashi Gawa. I heard about their dinner bento box and how it's a great value for the price. It took around 30 minutes for my order to arrive, which was reasonable. For the bento, I selected the veggie tempura, chicken katsu, and spicy tuna roll. There is a large serving of rice, a salad, and a small bowl of miso soup that also comes with this order. Starting with the chicken katsu, the meat was still juicy while the outer crust was both airy and crunchy. Although fried, it didn't become soggy and the chicken was still moist. There were a couple sauces it came with - one reminded me of a sweet mustard/mayo combo which was my favorite and it tasted amazing with the other items in the bento as well. For the veggie tempura, the outer layer was thin, light and had a nice crispy texture to it. It did not fall apart and was still coated the vegetables well. I was able to get broccoli, carrot, and slices of sweet potato - they were delicious and one of my favorite bites! It's also delicious with the dipping sauce it comes with. The spicy tuna roll was wrapped tightly and a good ratio of tuna to rice. If you have a high spice tolerance, it may not be very spicy to your tastebuds. The tuna tasted fresh and the rice was delicate and evenly cooked. I appreciated the large serving size of each dish in the bento and 100% agree it's a great value for what you get. I'd love to come here again and try more of their items!

I absolutely adore this place. It was my go-to sushi restaurant when I lived in Alameda and bummed that I live a bit farther away now. Whenever friends are craving sushi, this is always the spot I suggest. I almost always order the sushi combo for variety, and it's also an excellent value I feel. The fish is consistently fresh, buttery, and melts in your mouth - you can really tell it's high quality. My only minor wish is that they offered more unique house made desserts rather than the standard options you can find at most grocery stores. That said, I know that's pretty typical for sushi restaurants. Overall, this place remains one of my favorite sushi spots, and I highly recommend it!!

Uni Hand Roll (Santa Barbara) could of had more uni but flavor was good .

First time trying this spot . Dine in review let's get into it ! Me and babe have been on a sushi kick lately since coming back from Japan. He found this place so we went to give it a try. It's in a plaza so there's parking . When you walk in it's a cute store front . Modern but cozy . Customer service was nice and fun . Our waitress was very helpful . Oysters on the half shell were fresh. Yall know that's my favorite and I'll never tell no lies ! The sauce they put on it was a nice touch and not overbearing the fresh oyster taste ! Tempura has a nice crispy batter and the prawns were plump not skimpy or chewy . I also got the Santa Barbara hand roll because I really wanted uni but they don't sell uni as an appetizer. The hand roll itself was good nice flavor loved the salmon eggs , just wish there was more uni ( probably because that's what I really wanted lol I'm being honest okay ). But the star of the show for me was the SPICY LION KING ROLL . I've had plenty of lion king rolls throughout the years but never had a spicy one and it was bomb . I think what makes it spicy is the sauce they use . Wasn't too hot just an extra little kick to everything going on . We were sitting right next to the sushi makers and they overheard us talking about how good it was and they loved our vibe . We chatted and got to a point they gave us a free dessert which was so good ! I forgot the name but it was like a soft fluffy pancake filled with cold cream like vanilla ice cream ! I'd definitely give them a try and would come again .

Lunch and service was great as usual. We pigged out and left no survivors except for a few pieces of tempura. The ladies were super attentive and very kind to my father. Elaine was on duty again and friendly as always. When it came time to leave, the other woman packed my tempura plus extra sauce! Thank you for the great food and even more spectacular service. Dealing with us and our two hour meals can't be easy. Will see you again.

Had a fantastic dinner at Hashi Gawa recently we started with a few hand rolls. The rice to fish ratio was spot on but highlight of a night though was the Wagyu beef fried rice which the beef literally melted in mouth and right amount of eggs in every bite. High quality Japanese comfort food served here. One of our go to restaurants here in Alameda and service is always great and comfortable.

We had a great experience at Hashi Gawa! The food was fresh, tasted great, and the portions were really good. The customer service was awesome too. They took the time to explain the menu, checked on us throughout our meal, and kept our drinks refilled without us even having to ask. Everyone was so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We'll definitely be coming back!

Tempura here is the best, great crunch. Chicken teriyaki is always juicy. Decent fish and salad dressing yummy. Service is acceptable, decorations are nice. Only downside is menu is on an iPad, so literally have to wait for each person to decide and pass it around. Would be nice if they had paper menus

Exceptionally awful food. Even the miso soup was so bad I didn't want to finish it. Somehow they made California rolls taste bad. How do you even manage that? Food took over 20 minutes. Very long wait while the people who came in later than us got their food first. I don't even know what else to say. At a certain point it went from being frustrating to amusing. I am baffled at the way every single thing at this restaurant was just epically terrible. It looks good but would be better used for decoration.

Came here with a bestie for lunch since this is his local go-to spot. Sushi was fresh, flavorful, and really well done. Service was fast without feeling rushed, the place was clean, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. Everything came out looking great and tasting good. The roll with mango on top was easily my favorite. A great neighborhood sushi spot that delivers on quality and consistency. Will absolutely come back.

If you're looking for fresh, high-quality sushi in Alameda, Hashi Gawa is a hidden gem worth visiting. Located in the Bridgeside Shopping Center, this cozy Japanese spot offers an impressive menu featuring traditional favorites and creative rolls. The omakase experience is a standout, with perfectly marinated rice and beautifully plated nigiri that rivals top-tier sushi bars. Signature dishes like the Hashi Gawa Roll and Kaisen Don are packed with flavor and artful presentation. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is attentive, making every visit feel special. A nice touch? Portions are generous, and while prices lean toward the higher side, the quality justifies the cost. Reservations are recommended as it can get busy, but the sushi bar usually has a few seats open for walk-ins. However, I sent on a Saturday and was able to get a table right away. Whether you're craving classic nigiri, inventive specialty rolls, or vegan options, Hashi Gawa delivers a memorable dining experience in Alameda.

Hashi Gawa has definitely gained popularity, as even on a weekday it was crowded and there was a wait... Unfortunately I think with the rise in popularity, the service has gone down. While it is a very busy spot, it's quite hard to get tea refilled. We ordered appetizers, 2 omakases, and rolls... and we got the rolls toward the end after we finished our omakase and were sitting. It was a very long dinner as food was not prepared timely. I did not like their takoyaki either. I don't see myself coming back anymore as the quality as gone down.

Came here during lunch time and from the moment we walked in we were greeted very kindly and was seated right away. Customer service was spot on. Definitely felt welcomed and well attended to. The place was clean and had enough space for a large crowd. We ordered the Omakase, dragon roll and a bento box. Their Omakase came with a variety of fresh fish, but not all of it was like OMG so good, like how I have eaten Omakase at other sushi places in the past. I would say 80% of their Omakase was really good and the rest tasted just like a regular nigiri. However, it isn't a deal breaker. I did like how their Omakase came with real wasabi. Their dragon roll didn't have imitation crab inside which is what I am used to, so because of that, I won't be ordering dragon roll from this place anymore. I didn't eat the bento box, so I can't comment on that. I am down to come back and try other menu items.

We got seated immediately and service was so snappy friendly and great! My friends have been here before, but my first time. Really enjoyed everything we had, oysters, uni, a couple rolls, hamachi carpaccio. Rick hooked us up and was really fun and friendly! Highly recommend this spot.

How many pieces come in each roll?

Each roll comes w/ 8 pieces.

Do they take reservations? I've called but no one answers the phone.

Yes they do. Try calling them again!

What do you have for vegans?

They have a "vegan rolls" section on their menu. So far Ive had the eggplant/ asparagus roll and the veggie bomb. Both are excellent.

The refrigerated display was fairly small while the back wall was lined with shelves of Asian snacks. The sushi section was only wide enough for three or four people, so guests frequently had to reach over one another to grab their selections. The staff at checkout were friendly and packaged everything neatly. I also appreciated that the chopsticks were noticeably higher quality than standard takeout utensils. *Tuna Avo Roll: good balance of tuna, rice, and avocado. The avocado was slightly underripe, giving the roll an overall sharper, tangier profile. The tuna had a pleasant texture, though it was a touch fishy. The rice was at its best in this roll compared to the other items I ordered. *Omakase Nigiri: an incredible value for the quality and generous portions. Each piece was topped with thick, fleshy cuts of fish. My set included three tuna, two salmon, one scallop, and one ikura nigiri. The tuna was the standout and nearly melted in my mouth. The salmon was solid but fairly standard. The rice, however, was on the firmer side with only subtle vinegar seasoning. *Salmon Aburi: the beautifully torched top looked promising but surprisingly lacked any noticeable smokiness. The salmon was over torched, leaving very little of its natural raw richness and rendering away much of its fattiness. The rice was firmer and even more bland than the rice used in the other items. I really appreciate the reasonable prices and convenient grab and go setup, but the rice needs more consistency in texture and seasoning. Perhaps the refrigerated display contributes to the firmer texture, though the seasoning also varied noticeably between the three items I tried. Fortunately, the seafood itself was fresh, well cut, and generously portioned, which was enough for me to round this up to 3.5 stars.

Seems to me its a family operation, service is warm and friendly. Ambiance is laid back, cafe style. The menu has all the typical fare, I got the teryaki salmon meal both times and it was pretty good. Could use a little more sauce but you can always ask and I'm sure they'd be happy to provide at no charge. Also got the salmon collar which was particularly good. Prices are a little high for the area, but I would expect that given there's not a lot of sushi around, so they deserve the bump. 10$/nigiri though on some salmon is a *sconch* too high, they should do this a bit smarter. Only big things for me is just keep the hot sake HOT, it was mildly warm when I got mine, but this a common gripe I say about tons of places so not really gonna make a big deal about it. Once you walk into the restaurant, there's indoor and outdoor seating available. The outdoor seating is covered by a patio, and on colder days, I'm assuming they will put a heater out there? I'm not too sure, since I don't actually eat outside often. Indoor is well lit up, and has a decent amount of seating. The biggest table I have seen seats around 6 people, but can be more if you have small children I suppose. We mostly order the rolls here, and to be fair, it's a decent pricing. However, it is a hit or miss. 1. Lion King - Decent. Taste all the same everywhere you go if you ask me. 2. Deep Fried Spicy Tuna - Must have, definitely my favorite. 3. Golden Gate - More on the saucy side with imitation crab meat, it's basic. 4. Dragon Roll - Again, same anywhere you go. 5. Double Salmon Roll - Salmon on the inside, salmon on the outside. Cheaper alternative than to just getting nigiri or salmon sashimi. The customer service here is not the best in my opinion. The first time we took a friend there for his birthday, and it was terrible. The host, waiter/server, and manager disregarded us. However, a table next to us got the friendliest treatment. The type of treatment you give when you expect them to come back so you can address them by their name. The second time we've been here, the customer service was basic. No expectations, just take your order, serve, and a simple question of how is everything. Honestly, customer service could have been much more reasonable at even the most basic level. Overall, the food is ok. I wouldn't say it's like the best, but if you're here for lunch or a quick bite, it's fine.
