Ebiko is the place that made me fall in love with salmon aburi! This grab and go sushi spot is perfect for those who are looking for fresh and delicious sushi but not wanting to dine in. It's a small shop where you grab the sushi you want from their self serve fridge before paying at the counter. There is also various snacks you can purchase as well. The fish is fresh and the sushi is made fresh. You can see the staff replenishing the fridge when an item is running low.
Want your fix of quality & fresh cuts of fish that reminds you of the markets in Japan? Ebiko is the only place I know of that offers this. I'm never disappointed with the food here and I'm super hard to please when it comes to japanese. Omakase quality cuts at grocery store prices. Stop in and give them a try :)
Five stars for tasty dishes, beautiful presentation, and great deal! The Salmon Aburi is a go to and satisfies my quick sushi fix. I don't know of other places that have this quality of grab and go sushi, and I'm super thankful that this store is accessible. If I'm craving it for lunch, I try to go as close to 11 AM opening time as possible since there is a huge lunch rush. The trashy bowl is also really beautiful and makes for a good sharing lunch.
I regularly visit Ebiko and have ordered delivery multiple times and they are ALWAYS consistent with their quality. I love the ease of their grab-and-go fridge which is always well stocked at most times of the day. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu I switch out my rolls every so often and have tried most of their items. The cashiers working are always friendly and love their good quality chopsticks for togo (I save them). The location itself is small and parking can be tricky depending on the day but I usually find street parking and quickly run in. It's super convenient and the line never takes long to wait in either. My go-to's are the negihama and salmon aburi. Never disappoints - definitely add this to your Oakland/East Bay foodie list. There was a line, but because there is no seating, service was quick! It was hard to choose from all of the delicious looking choices, but I went with the spicy tuna ($8.99). It was simple, fresh and really tasty. The subtle heat allowed for the mild sweetness of the tuna to come through, and the texture of the seaweed and rice were perfect. There is also a nice selection of Japanese snacks and beverages to add to your meal, and the prices were all very reasonable. If you live in the area or just visiting Piedmont Ave., I highly recommend Ebiko for very fresh, healthy, and delicious grab-and-go sushi!
This place is small and a to go spot. The sushi came in these cute bowls and the food was so delicious. Staff were a bit stingy over soy sauce but their service was quick!

My friends and I stopped by this to-go sushi shop on a weekday afternoon, and it was packed! Luckily we ordered our snacks and lunch in advance, and it was ready for pickup by the time we arrived. I tried thier seaweed salad, which tasted fresh and had a good balance of sweetness and sesame flavor. I also tried their salmon roll, which was simple yet well done! The salmon tasted fresh and the rice was nicely seasoned. This was a solid, casual sushi spot!
Insanely high quality for the price. And these nigiri pieces are FAT. Highlyyy recommend for takeout sushi. The hours can be inconvenient, though, so plan ahead.
I'm always happy to make the drive or bike ride out to ebiko! I'm not exactly sure how I discovered this place but it's a corner store with Togo sushi options and a shelf full of snacks. Their sushi is not the typical Togo or gas station sushi. It's actually so unbelievable how fresh and good it is. I crave this almost all the time when I want something convenient and fresh. Best picnic food! :)
My friend who lives in Oakland raved about this place, so we got it and ate at the rose garden nearby. I didn't know what to expect but dang, this place is so good for grab and go sushi! I forgot the names of the rolls, but I know we got seared salmon nigiri, spicy tuna roll, and an unagi roll. These do NOT taste like grocery store sushi, they're high quality. I loved the unagi roll with furikake, it's unique from the ones I had in the midwest. The spicy tuna, you can actually taste the tuna and not just spicy mayo. The seared salmon melted in my mouth. Overall, amazing experience and quality sushi. I'm still thinking about that first bite!
Truly surprising! I had been meaning to come here for ages but hadn't made it in, but wow! They are a purely to go spot with open refrigerators with a great selection of freshly made sushi. They also have a limited assortment of Japanese groceries. When we checked out I was surprised how reasonably priced everything was. I think for maybe 7 rolls I spent around $60? To be fair they were all veggie or cooked because I'm not currently eating raw fish but still! The rice was so flavorful and the ratio of rice to fillings was on point! The raw fish also looked beautiful and so fresh I was questioning my life choices a little bit... I will definitely be back.

My favorite quick grab n go sushi spot in town! Prices are affordable and everything is made fresh. Great & simple selections as well as exotic snacks and drinks available. Perfect for picnics by the lake! Highly recommend the Salmon Aburi! read more
Love the easy grab and go concept, although the rice could have used some work. There is a huge lunch rush, so it's best to arrive right at opening. The refrigerated display was fairly small while the back wall was lined with shelves of Asian snacks. The sushi section was only wide enough for three or four people, so guests frequently had to reach over one another to grab their selections. The staff at checkout were friendly and packaged everything neatly. I also appreciated that the chopsticks were noticeably higher quality than standard takeout utensils. *Tuna Avo Roll: good balance of tuna, rice, and avocado. The avocado was slightly underripe, giving the roll an overall sharper, tangier profile. The tuna had a pleasant texture, though it was a touch fishy. The rice was at its best in this roll compared to the other items I ordered. *Omakase Nigiri: an incredible value for the quality and generous portions. Each piece was topped with thick, fleshy cuts of fish. My set included three tuna, two salmon, one scallop, and one ikura nigiri. The tuna was the standout and nearly melted in my mouth. The salmon was solid but fairly standard. The rice, however, was on the firmer side with only subtle vinegar seasoning. *Salmon Aburi: the beautifully torched top looked promising but surprisingly lacked any noticeable smokiness. The salmon was over torched, leaving very little of its natural raw richness and rendering away much of its fattiness. The rice was firmer and even more bland than the rice used in the other items. I really appreciate the reasonable prices and convenient grab and go setup, but the rice needs more consistency in texture and seasoning. Perhaps the refrigerated display contributes to the firmer texture, though the seasoning also varied noticeably between the three items I tried. Fortunately, the seafood itself was fresh, well cut, and generously portioned, which was enough for me to round this up to 3.5 stars. read more

High quality prepackaged sushi with unbeatable prices. It's more of a mini mart for Japanese lunch, drinks, and snacks. There's no place inside to eat but it's the perfect place to stop by if you're wanting to have a picnic and grab something quick. 10/10 taste and freshness. read more
Unbeatable prices at restaurant quality. Dropped in on weekday afternoon right before closing and there was a crowd that followed picking fresh selection for evening dinner or snack. Luckily the salmon aburi was freshly made and the rice texture was perfect when I got home to consume. Tried the omakase nigiri set in the car and the rice fell apart. I've should have waited for the rice to warm up to room temperature but couldn't help myself. The freshness is amazing and every bite melts in my mouth. Near the counter/cashier there is a condiment/utensil area. Condiments include containers of wasabi/ginger mix, soy sauce, napkins and chopsticks. The chopsticks are pretty high quality in comparison to what I normally get in a restaurant. There are beverages and snacks available but didn't see pricing on those items. A bench is outside if decided to eat immediately but there is no other seating available. Parking is street and might be a little difficult depending on timing. Area feels super safe since it is next to Piedmont. I definitely would drop by when in the area. Kinda wish I had one in my neighborhood but lucky I have one in the East Bay. read more

I'm so glad we stumbled upon Ebiko! We visited on a Monday around 12 and found it pretty busy. I'd recommend arriving early, since they seem to have many regulars. The interior was small and looked almost like a convenience store - all to-go, with a sushi fridge and a pantry area of imported snacks. I chose the Salmon Aburi Nigiri and Omakase Nigiri, as well as a bottled Iced Green Tea. The bench outside was occupied, but there were a few more down the block or across the street. The sushi was incredible! The Salmon Aburi was easily my favorite - super soft, practically melted in my mouth. The Omakase Nigiri was also amazing and so fresh. Totally worth the price! read more
I was craving sushi for lunch and decided to DoorDash Ebiko. My order arrived within a few minutes and the food was fresh and appetizing. I tried the salmon avocado roll which was held together well and had a good ratio of salmon to avocado. It tasted great! The tsukemono had 4 different varieties that I was able to try with my meal. I loved the sweet, sour, and vinegar elements of each. The seaweed salad was both sweet and refreshing, which paired well with the varying flavors of my meal. The miso soup kit is perfect for one person and very convenient. Once you add hot water, the miso paste dissolves nicely. It was very comforting and simple. I will definitely be trying this place again! read more

Holy moly, my life is actually changed. Let me preface this by saying I'm not the biggest fan of raw sushi, but more especially raw salmon. But I'm trying to get myself to like it more by trying other places. I stumbled upon this place just walking by and decided to try it out. Less than $13 for 5 pieces which isn't too bad I think. The sushi was amazing. So good, the quality was amazing and it all tasted so fresh. It was genuinely melt in your mouth. I wish I would've gotten more while I was in the area! The cashier was nice as well and even gave me a ponzu packet from behind the counter and said he liked it with the salmon aburi, and it paired well together! Small store, but very clean. I would definitely come back again to try their other offerings, but DEFINITELY would get the salmon aburi again. read more

Nomnomnom! What more can I say that hasn't been said? Super fresh fish - buttery smooth and omakase quality TO GO! Quick and easy - walk up - get what you want - pay - and enjoy! Salmon aburi was so yummy - hamachi rolls - inari - and even grabbed a bag of chips! I will say the price isn't cheaper than what a full sit down restaurant would charge - but in a setting like this where there wasn't "service" - it saves on the tipping. Best part is you can easily have sushi at the park or the lake or wherever you want! read more

amazing quality and delicious sushi! the nigiri is amazing and the fish is extremely fresh! i need to come back ! i love the hamachi roll and their salmon seared nigiri! the rice is seasoned nicely and pairs very well with the fish. it's such a cute little grocery store and it gets pretty busy but thankfully it's a grab n go so it you can get your food and leave asap. read more

Top quality Sushi. I got the Salmon Aburi (5) melted in my mouth. Good size. And 7 piece omakase. Delicious. On par with restaurants. Tip : still plenty by 2pm. But line was long 8 ppl in front of me and 2 tried to cut the line. Clearly lots of ppl know about this gem of a place. Don't forget to pick up the top quality disposable chopsticks and your desirable amount of wasabi & ginger. read more

When I'm craving sashimi or sushi that's fresh and reasonably priced, I always head to Ebiko. Ebiko is a quick stop-and-shop in Piedmont, wish fresh sushi, nigiri, sashimi and more! It's mainly for takeout. The service is good and friendly! Mainly just the chefs in the back and hostess/cashier. Since it's a shop without seating, the vibe feels like a convenient store with snacks and drinks as well. Parking can be a pain, but if you emergency park, I'm sure you'll be in and out under 5minutes. Overall, great store for sushi and I would always recommend friends to stop by here when visiting! read more

Walked by Ebiko and had to stop and browse. Such a fresh selection of prepared sushi, sashimi and mochi. Staff is very friendly and let me know that the incredible platters can be ordered for pickup with just a few hours notice. I'll definitely have to come back. read more
Got the chefs omakase, seared salmon, toro bowl and yellowtail roll?. It is designed as a grab a go type of vibe similar to aji Kiji in a way located on a busy piedmont street. The quality of the fish was extremely good and it was sooo tasty. I'd come back definitely to try some other items but my favorite was definitely the omakase one. Personally think you can skip out on the toro rice bowl as it kinda tasted like leftover pieces? A bit fishy taste but everything else was very delicious and high quality read more
Needed a quick bite to eat that didn't require sitting down in a restaurant on account of wrangling our twin babies. So glad we found this hole in the wall so we could picnic in our trunk while waiting for our doctor's appointment. Rating Breakdown: 2/2 Stars for Taste -- Don't be fooled by the simple decor of this grocery store. The quality of the sushi here is top notch! I was surprised by the cuts of fish that came with the omakase. There were quality cuts like salmon belly, fatty tuna, ikura, and scallops. We also tried the salmon aburi and the sear with the slight char was SO good. The ratio of rice to fish is perfect. They serve the wasabi on the side, which is fine by me! 1/1 Stars for Value -- I could not believe the prices here. The omakase was $16.99 for 7 pieces of nigiri. The salmon aburi was $11.50 for 5 pieces. Also, this is such an Asian thing, but they gave us some quality chopsticks with the meal...I may still be using them. 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- You help yourself to the selection in the fridge and check out at the front desk. There was virtually no line when we went. You can get your own packets of wasabi and soy sauce at the front. Bonus star because I would definitely be back if I'm craving sashimi. Was dropping off my Bear (not a real Bear, but IYKYK haha) this day and was craving some sushi. I went to another place a few weeks ago, but wasn't too impressed. Decided to search Yelp for another spot and came across Ebiko. Apparently there's one in San Francisco, and this location in Oakland. I'm glad there's one on this side of the Bay Bridge, because toll and traffic to cross the bridge is horrible haha. Now, considering this is the Bay Area, I already knew parking was going to be a pain in my you know what. And this day it was haha. I think I circled the block like 6 or 7 times before finding someone eventually leaving haha. Was it worth it? It definitely was! Ebiko is located in the corner and was not very big. But I feel it's just the right size. And it's super clean! Everything you need and want is just a few steps away. As you walk in, the sushi is to the left and the register is in the right. To the back are some Japanese snacks. You just grab what you and pay. I noticed the Omakase Nigiri had a scallop nigiri. Since I don't eat shellfish, I decided to ask if they can do one with another type of fish. And guess what, they can!! And they didn't charge extra!! So that's a plus for others who don't eat shellfish. I opted for extra tuna. It was only a few minute wait for them to make my customized nigiri, but it was worth it. The quality of their sushi is definitely on par to sit down restaurants. All the pieces just melted in my mouth. The fish was so buttery and fresh. See my pics to see what we ate. There are other sushi dishes they have that I will definitely try next time. I think I saw a Chutoro Don that I am definitely looking forward to next time. Came here because it was recommended from a friend, and loved how cute this spot was! They have a cute lil area for snacks, drinks, and ready made food. Everything looked so good!! It was also reasonably priced. It's like a mini mart! Would finitely come back to try the other options! read more
Given that this is considered "grocery store sushi" it's anything but. The fish is fresh, freshly prepped, and delicious. I got the seared salmon nigiri and the salmon was extremely rich and buttery. The hamachi roll was yummy, and the spicy salmon roll was a crowd favorite between my partner and I. As for variety, it looks like they specialize in nigiri's and simple/classic rolls & they do it well. The store is simple and small, along with their sushi, they also have a selection of Japanese snacks. They offer wasabi, ginger, soy sauce, and chopsticks at the counter. While there's no seats inside, there is a bench outside that seems to be shared properly. But if you walk just up the street, there's plenty of benches available! read more

FINALLY a ready made sushi spot that is delicious and does not taste grocery store made. Fish quality is amazing for the price. The service is excellent and consistent, they are always so nice here. I could eat here every week. I have tried almost every sushi they have and all of them are good! Ebiko, please stay open, stay consistent and stay affordable. We are a fan! read more
