Ebiko is a great addition to Piedmont Ave for fresh, high quality, grab-and-go sushi! I love the clean appearance and fresh smell-which is super important at a sushi restaurant. There was a line, but because there is no seating, service was quick! It was hard to choose from all of the delicious looking choices, but I went with the spicy tuna ($8.99). It was simple, fresh and really tasty. The subtle heat allowed for the mild sweetness of the tuna to come through, and the texture of the seaweed and rice were perfect. There is also a nice selection of Japanese snacks and beverages to add to your meal, and the prices were all very reasonable. Unbeatable prices at restaurant quality. Dropped in on weekday afternoon right before closing and there was a crowd that followed picking fresh selection for evening dinner or snack. Luckily the salmon aburi was freshly made and the rice texture was perfect when I got home to consume. Tried the omakase nigiri set in the car and the rice fell apart. I've should have waited for the rice to warm up to room temperature but couldn't help myself. The freshness is amazing and every bite melts in my mouth. Near the counter/cashier there is a condiment/utensil area. Condiments include containers of wasabi/ginger mix, soy sauce, napkins and chopsticks. The chopsticks are pretty high quality in comparison to what I normally get in a restaurant. There are beverages and snacks available but didn't see pricing on those items. A bench is outside if decided to eat immediately but there is no other seating available. Parking is street and might be a little difficult depending on timing. Area feels super safe since it is next to Piedmont. I definitely would drop by when in the area. Kinda wish I had one in my neighborhood but lucky I have one in the East Bay. read more

I tried the salmon avocado roll which was held together well and had a good ratio of salmon to avocado. It tasted great! The tsukemono had 4 different varieties that I was able to try with my meal. I'm so glad we stumbled upon Ebiko! We visited on a Monday around 12 and found it pretty busy. I'd recommend arriving early, since they seem to have many regulars. The interior was small and looked almost like a convenience store - all to-go, with a sushi fridge and a pantry area of imported snacks. I chose the Salmon Aburi Nigiri and Omakase Nigiri, as well as a bottled Iced Green Tea. The bench outside was occupied, but there were a few more down the block or across the street. Was dropping off my Bear (not a real Bear, but IYKYK haha) this day and was craving some sushi. I went to another place a few weeks ago, but wasn't too impressed. Decided to search Yelp for another spot and came across Ebiko. Apparently there's one in San Francisco, and this location in Oakland. I'm glad there's one on this side of the Bay Bridge, because toll and traffic to cross the bridge is horrible haha. Now, considering this is the Bay Area, I already knew parking was going to be a pain in my you know what. And this day it was haha. I think I circled the block like 6 or 7 times before finding someone eventually leaving haha. Was it worth it? It definitely was! Ebiko is located in the corner and was not very big. But I feel it's just the right size. And it's super clean! Everything you need and want is just a few steps away. As you walk in, the sushi is to the left and the register is in the right. To the back are some Japanese snacks. You just grab what you and pay. I noticed the Omakase Nigiri had a scallop nigiri. Since I don't eat shellfish, I decided to ask if they can do one with another type of fish. And guess what, they can!! And they didn't charge extra!! So that's a plus for others who don't eat shellfish. I opted for extra tuna. It was only a few minute wait for them to make my customized nigiri, but it was worth it. The quality of their sushi is definitely on par to sit down restaurants. All the pieces just melted in my mouth. The fish was so buttery and fresh. See my pics to see what we ate. We've been walking by Ebiko whenever we're in the area and were always curious if it was any good. Thankfully, we recently had the chance to check it out and it is awesome! This is of course not a sit-down restaurant, but a grab and go, which is convenient when you're in a hurry. It also means their overhead is much lower than a traditional sushi joint, so they're able to offer exceptional quality nigiri and rolls at around 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of most sit-down restaurants. With everything so expensive these days, it's nice to know we have an affordable option that doesn't compromise on quality. We grabbed a omakase nigiri (includes 7 pieces), California roll, and a spicy tuna roll. The rice is well seasoned and still holds its texture so you can feel the individual grains and the fish to rice ratio was perfect for the nigiri. The fish was high quality as well. The California roll has real snow crab and tasted delicious - nice and creamy with the avocado and mayo in the snow crab. Lastly, the spicy tuna was one of the best I've had in recent memory. It has a good spice level but not super spicy where it overpowers the tuna. It's perfectly balanced. All of this was around $35, which is a steal for the quality you're receiving. In addition, they also sell Japanese snacks and a variety of drinks. I'm looking forward to trying more items next time we're in the area. read more

Lemme tell you, the quality is quality-ing! It's so damn fresh and pretty affordable as well. I think my 5 fat nigiri's were like $16 and one of them was some fatty tuna that I loved. The service is always quick because you order at the counter but it's important to note there is no seating. This is meant to be a place where you grab your stuff and leave! There's one wooden bench outside that you can use if it's available but that's it. My only suggestion would be to include a mixed omakase nigiri without scallop so the shellfish allergy girlies can enjoy the variety without having to waste or give away one of the rolls. One look at the nigiri offerings inside this place, and you'll find that Ebiko is not your usual grab n go sushi.. This is sushi of the highest caliber in the genre of sushi to go that I've ever witnessed here in the States. Extremely fresh high quality fish freshly prepared, with rice that is still supple and not stone cold totally UNlike what you would find in common cold-case sushi. It was difficult to choose between the omakase nigiri or the Salmon Aburi, but for this first visit I went with the omakase nigiri. Which included tuna (both fatty and norma), ikura, salmon and scallop. Absolutely tender delicious melt-in-your mouth good. We also tried the Unagi, but the pieces were a bit on the thinner side and not quite as impressive. Bonus points that it wasn't drowned in sauce either. Casual Japanese mini-mart style vibe, but just sushi, a wall with Japanese snacks and the checkout counter. Tasteful touches all around. Friendly service, nice chopsticks too! =).
