Well, FINALLY, things have calmed down just a smidge after the Grand Opening of the Tokyo Central market next door to allow for us to get our feet into the doorway of this place. They only have seating for 6 at the counter as if it's a high end omakase dining experience. However, you walk thru a threshold lined with empty tables and chairs that are supposed to be used by patrons of the market who purchase pre-made bento boxes that they re-heat in the microwave as they leave the market. So go figure on that business model. But when you DO finally get to sit at the counter, it's a pleasant experience! Currently the store hours are limited to just 7 daylight hours from 11am to 6pm. And the menu is quite Spartan, but perhaps that is the charm of it. And certainly, the simplicity lends to the speed of service. FYI, they just started Take-Out service which may be an option. However, I will say that it probably does dis-service to the handrolls themselves as they are BEST enjoyed freshly made. The crispy warmth of the nori and rice will be quickly lost in the to-go boxes unless you literally just take them out and eat them outside the doors of the establishment! They have a fairly non-surprising menu. They serve the basics of sashimi and a few cooked and veggie options as well. Our cook says there is the possibility of an expanded menu in the future but this is only their 1st month in operation and they are still staffing up. What I will say is that what they do serve is executed fairly well. The nori used is prepared excellently. It hits your mouth with a crisp, warm texture that is light-years difference from those pre-made refrigerated bento boxes inside Tokyo Central! They use the Edo period method of making sushi instead of the typical modern day white rice wine vinegar which gives it a much more mild flavor while at the same time giving the rice the prototypical brownish coloring. The sashimi used is good as far as I can tell. No complaints here. Though I will say of the A5 wagyu that it wasn't as in-your-face delicious as a nigiri version. Despite the usual torch searing and salting, I think wrapping the beef up inside the rice hides a dimension of flavour that usually hits your tongue immediately when in nigiri form. So for this reason, I'm not sure if it is worth it. My partner in crime had the uni handroll. We were told the uni is local from Santa Barbara. It was not as tasty to her. Not clear how much of that is psychological knowing it's not Hokkaido uni...but take that for whatever it's worth. All-in-all I'd say this is an enjoyable experience that I would gladly have again if I do not have to wait in line for it. However, this is not something I'd choose to wait for more than 10 minutes in line. The prices are fairly reasonable but still not very cheap. For the 2 of us, we forked out ~$100 which amounted to 11 handrolls without any extras of tea, soups, or alcohol. At the end of the day, is it worth it? YES! Tasty! Filling...for a price! Better than your average "sushi place." But keep expectations in check! Because this is not a "full service" Japanese restaurant that caters to ordering teriyaki-this, agadashi tofu-that, karaage-this, udon-that, tonkatsu-this, ramen-that, etc. This is a place that you quickly ROLL through and get out...keke (our meal was just under 30 min!)

I really enjoyed the three roll set that I got. That snow crab was sweet and light. I do think that the actual fish pieces to rice ratio was a little bit on the small side, but it's a pretty good value overall. I will try it again when they have their omakase.

The hand rolls were tasted great! Service was fast and the seaweed was crunchy and crisp! The chunks of fish were huge. Fare warning, they just opened, so the omakase hand roll set isn't ready yet and our server almost skipped one of our hand rolls. He quickly fixed the issue once we spoke up, so no biggie!! I think this spot has the potential to be great! They're still working through the kinks, but the food itself is definitely great.

Great Handrolls and good service. Glad to see handrolls places opening in Hawaii. They have a good variety. Plenty of fish in each roll.

The lighting is dim, providing a more elevated atmosphere. We came during lunch and surprising there was only 1 other guest there at the time. The staff seated us right away and we were able to order within a few minutes. The menu has a great assortment of sushi, bento boxes and more so if you're in a larger group, there is something for everyone. As a group of 3, my friends and I decided to split the meal family style and ordered bento boxes and a few rolls. The food came out within just a few minutes. The rolls are visually appealing and very appetizing. They held together nicely, although the spicy scallop roll was falling apart - however I do think scallop is trickier to work with so I didn't mind it. The bento boxes offered a great quantity of food for the price, so it was worth it! What stood out to me was the crisp texture of the tempura and katsu - only callout here is that the katsu was cut into thinner slices which you might not prefer if you like thicker slices. Overall, I'm glad I found this gem and I'm looking forward to a future visit!

We were seated about an hour later, but once we got in, the service was quick and efficient. We ordered a mix of items to share: * Enoki chips - absolutely addicting. Perfectly crispy with a great crunch, and the umami spice on the side took them to another level. * Chicken karaage - tasty overall, but the glaze was poured over everything. I would've preferred it on the side to keep the texture crisp. * Kani hand roll - super fresh and flavorful; didn't even need soy sauce. * Ikura & hotate hand roll - generous portion and very fresh, again no soy needed. * Garlic Knockout ramen - lives up to the name. Rich, deeply garlicky broth that was bold and delicious. * Signature smoked toripaitan ramen - flavorful without being overly heavy (which I prefer). The chashu was tender and the noodles tasted fresh. I was blown away by the food, I haven't had ramen this good in a long time. The restaurant clearly runs efficiently, turning tables quickly despite the wait. I'll definitely be back

Server and Chef were super friendly and welcoming. While I waited, the chef brought me a nice little sample to try. Really refreshing and delicious. I ordered a lychee lemonade and edamame to start. Both really good. I had to refrain from drinking and eating it all so I didn't get full before my food came. Would order both again. (Maybe add some liquor in the lemonade lol ) For my main dish, I went with the 10 piece nigiri omakase and upgraded $10 to include toro. Pieces of fish were huge and delicious. Surprisingly the toro wasn't my favorite but still was really good! The shrimp head was a nice treat! I ordered dessert even though I was stuffed cause I couldn't help myself: matcha tres leche (which I was told was their most popular dessert). It didn't disappoint! Restaurant was clean and well taken care of. They were updating the signs on the window as well which I'm sure is going to look great. If you're in the area, give them a try. Already looking forward to my next visit!

The space is very cozy, quiet, almost unassuming. For a Saturday evening, there were only 3-4 parties around us. I was relieved as some of our favorite sushi spots in this area tend to require reservations. We were welcomed graciously and were happy to hear the staff's recommendations. SALMON SPECIAL: !!! Pretty unique! I loved the beet-marinated salmon, this was nice and sweet. The green curry was interesting, though outshone by the former. TUNA TATAKI: A LOT of topping for a tataki...! Like overflowing! I liked it ^_^ But a lot of onion and texture. I mainly was curious towards the ponzu soy mayo, which didn't fail to be bright and flavorful. BACON OF THE SEA: My partner is the BIGGEST fan of salmon skin so this was a must-have. SO good. Crispy outside, tender inside, plus all the fatty goodness throughout. SAKE DON: Supa fresh!! With thick cuts. The rice is seasoned well, not too sour. I could've done without the lemon slices, but it might be someone else's cup of tea. Overall, pretty solid sake don :3 We got lucky with parking and found a spot across the street... But I'd come a bit earlier to scout out the area if you've driving.

Their restaurant philosophy is to provide an optimal dining experience with fresh ingredients and a simple menu that spotlights their strength. Since they are only open for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays for weekdays, I made a plan to come here on one of those Thursdays. Having scouted through Yelp (like a true Elite does), I was all set to order my Bara Chirashi ($24) which is cubed slices of mixed sashimi and ikura over a bed of rice. It was beautifully made and took an appropriate amount of time since it was made to order. Very delightful and something that I would order again, but definitely eyeing the Best Catch Box ($29) next time for their beautiful presentation of negatory, uni, scallops, ikura (take a look at the Yelp photos if you haven't!). I originally wanted to get a hand roll or two but ended up impulse ordering the Matcha Affogato ($6). It was a surprising yet very well thought out combination of Strawberry Pop Tart Ice Cream (right???) with well prepared matcha poured over. Service was polite but not overbearing and there were a few other people also indulging in an elevated lunch experience. All in all, so thrilled to have tried it; will be back again, and think that it's a must-try place within the Oakland area!
