    Shredded pork belly ramen
    Priyanka S.

Itani ramen in Oakland sadly fell short. When I went with a group of friends for one of my friends birthday we decided to order the karage chicken as well as the minced pork belly ramen and both were not as flavorful as expected. The karaage chicken was not very crispy and felt a bit soggy towards the bottom as they were plated atop a base of sweet soy sauce. The chicken skin itself while having some chili powder was not coated enough and fell flat in flavor. The shredded pork belly ramen was quite similar in nature and tasted very mild almost border lining on tasting bland so we asked for chili oil which the restaurant did not have. While edible and moderate in flavor I would say pass on the ramen and karaage here as there are far more flavorful ramen places in Oakland such as Mensho ramen.

came for the ayce crab feed for my boyfriend's birthday, and that experience was amazing! not a fan of the fried chili crab but everything else was tasty, especially the milk bread with nori butter. i need that everyday haha. i hate to say though the ramen was not good. neither the oxtail or spicy miso. the oxtail meat was tasty and so was the crab meat but the broth and noodles didn't really work together. i feel like the noodles didn't absorb any flavor like other ramen places and maybe the noodles were just too thick or were put into the bowl right before being served, but it was like eating two different things. we ended up not eating the ramen after a few bites and felt bad for the restaurant as well as ourselves as everything was over $300. just to clarify though it was that price for the ayce crab feed (which included ramen) not their normal restaurant prices lol

I live in the area and have been walking past this spot for over a year now and have been meaning to try them. They always have a good size crowd inside the restaurant, and upon arrival I was given by staff who were really friendly! I started off by having their Mocktail of the day, which was a passionfruit drink, and was really yummy and I recommend trying that. The waffle fries were a 10 out of 10 I would come back just for that and the veggie Ramen was OK for me. I wish I had a little bit more flavor in the broth. I will say The vegetables tasted really fresh as well as the noodles! If anything, I would try another Ramen as I would assume the broth would have more flavor since it is meat based Ramen.

This review is based on my delivery order. I had the Recovery Meal; includes your choice of a ramen bowl, 3 pieces veggie or pork gyoza, negi chashu mini donburi or small salad, and a non-alcoholic drink. I opted for the Veggie Ramen, veggie gyoza, salad, and Yuzu lemonade. The veggie ramen was flavorful. The veggie gyoza with the dipping sauce, yummy! The dressing on the salad made it so delicious. I'm a huge fan of yuzu and the yuzu lemonade really hit the spot! I appreciate restaurants that have okay-based and vegan options. I hope they expand on these options.

Just what we wanted prior to going to the Paramont to see Home Alone. The Miso pork ramen, oxtail ramekin hit the spot and warmed out inside. Just a few blocks from the theater.

The food was good but not the most flavorful broth. It's a simple ramen so it is good but the flavor isn't as deep as I like my ramen. It also costs extra for minor add ons.

I've been here twice and am planning to go many more times. I've tried the miso pork ramen and the spicy shrimp ramen. The miso pork ramen had a very rich and savory broth, very well seasoned and not too salty. I added in some of the spicy (probably msg?) from the table and it gave it just that nice extra umami flavor. The spicy shrimp ramen wasn't my favorite and I wouldn't have it again. The broth was not as rich and the spice level was not spicy enough in my opinion. But my friend had it also and loved it so to each their own. I also had the karage chicken which I do not recommend, it was not crispy and the texture was very off putting. The service is great, they bring the food out in a timely manner which is great to go during a lunch during the workday. Overall recommend this place very much.

First time here. Food was a bit salty here. I could have done with 30-40% less salt for both the ramen and kimchi fried rice. That being said, at least the salt was good? It just didn't need so much, or maybe it's a personal preference. Many other people seem to feel that the broth is actually not too salty. But lovelyyy ambiance. Location is convenient as can be. Servers were great.

My gf and I stopped by Sunday night before the pink sweats concert as it's walking distance from the fox theatre. We were seated quite quickly and ready to order as we were running with limited time. We ordered the pork donburi and the pork ramen as well. Both came out smelling so good and tasty too! Their portions are quite generous as well and tons of flavor. Overall, for our quick visit; itani ramen is the perfect spot for a quick bite. Will definitely be back if we're ever in the mood!

We came by after dinner next door to get something for our kid. As soon as we walked in, the smell was amazing, so we ended up ordering ramen for ourselves too. Service was good, friendly staff, even brought out coloring paper for our kid. The ramen was decent, simple and basic, but for the price and portion, we probably wouldn't come back. The restaurant was roomy and clean.

I enjoy the drinks and bites, but my review is a story for something a little more delightful for me that a stranger working made just that much better. This is where my husband took me on our first "sneak" date in 2019 and where he proposed to me in 2023. After he dropped to one knee quietly in our little corner, someone working there played "4Ever" by Lil Mo! That became the song walked down to after jumping our broom because of that moment. That is top notch service! I hope that person sees this review... We were married on 6/29/25! We'll be back.

    Wrong manager email

Terrible experience at Itani Ramen in Oakland. I waited 35 minutes for an Oxtail Ramen, only to receive a completely wrong vegetarian bowl when I got back to my office in the rain. I walked back to fix it, and the server, Chelsea, admitted the mistake but offered no apology, no compensation, and said the correct dish would "take a long time." When I asked to at least take the incorrect dish, she said she had already thrown it away and then pointed at the trash can, telling me I could grab it from there if I wanted. Completely unacceptable. When I asked for a manager, I was told none were available, the phone line was constantly busy, and after making me wait, she handed me a number and said: "please don't come back." To top it off, the manager email she gave me doesn't even exist. Disorganized, disrespectful, and genuinely shocking behavior. I won't return.

We were about to sit down when I ask the server what the gluten-free options were and she told me that there were no gluten-free options. it turns out that they have gluten-free noodles listed on the menu (which is why my daughter thought they had gluten-free options) but None of their broths are gluten free. I would've preferred it on the side to keep the texture crisp. * Kani hand roll - super fresh and flavorful; didn't even need soy sauce. * Ikura & hotate hand roll - generous portion and very fresh, again no soy needed. * Garlic Knockout ramen - lives up to the name. Rich, deeply garlicky broth that was bold and delicious. * Signature smoked toripaitan ramen - flavorful without being overly heavy (which I prefer). That said, I'd definitely come back, especially because of the thoughtful vegan options. Next time, I'll probably try the Chashu Bowl, which looked really good when it came out at another table. In the short time since my…read morefirst review, this place seems to have changed ownership, given the significant change in ambiance and decor (and good luck "grand opening" plant at the entrance). I don't understand why the owners have put a Guan Yu shrine near the ordering tablets, which is neither Japanese nor has any connection to what was at least once a JR-themed restaurant. The restaurant wasn't playing the station chimes or showing the station stops on the TVs when we were there, but instead it was totally silent inside while the TVs played random Japanese programming. There are new fan art canvases based on various animes hung on the walls, but again, they have nothing to do with the former theme of the restaurant, and everything combined just broke the immersion of what was once an incredibly unique, creative experience. I was really disappointed, especially since I brought my cousin here to try the ramen for the first time, which is at least still as delicious as it used to be. But they got his order wrong, both the food and the drink, which made for a poor impression (and also leaves one wondering how you get help for an issue like that at a place that's totally contactless and devoid of human interaction). It was good while it lasted, and while the ramen is great (went with the black garlic, added spice, and got the thick noodles), I'm not sure I'd make another trip all the way over here when half the allure is now gone. Sorry, Ramen Station, but I think my fascination with your restaurant is over.

Walking in feels like stepping into a Japanese train station--bright colors, bold art on the walls, and TVs playing scenic views from a Japanese train ride. Below the screens are self-ordering kiosks where you customize everything yourself. My go-to order every time: Spicy Tan Tan Ramen -- 10/10. The broth is rich, creamy, and perfectly spicy with a sesame-infused base. It comes with ground pork, seaweed, green scallions, corn, and woodear mushrooms. I usually substitute the woodear mushrooms for shiitake mushrooms, add pickled pink ginger, ask for light salt, and choose skinny noodles. I love that you can customize toppings and noodle thickness exactly how you want. Once you pay, a receipt prints with your number. You wait until your number is called over the radio--when it happens, a train bell rings, and your number flashes above the serving window like you're boarding a train. Such a cool touch. Portions are generous, flavors are always bold, and the ramen is consistently packed and satisfying. If you're taking it to go, they offer solid packaging options so you can reheat everything properly at home. Tip: skip the paper bags--they don't hold up well. Get the box and handle with care. I come here often, and even after trying other ramen spots, nothing compares. Ramen Station is a true 5-star, contactless ramen experience. Highly recommend.

The only item that had spice indicators was their spiciest option which had 3 flame symbols next to it. The spice was good and didn't mask the flavor of the ramen. The waitress came around a lot to refill water as needed. The restaurant is small, but the food is really good. I'd love to try their tonkotsu options next time. Parking is a bit difficult to get, especially in downtown Berkeley. You may have to find street parking a block or two down depending on the time you come to eat.

For New Year's Eve we went to the special event at the Ramen shop for the first time and really enjoyed ourselves with Japanese appetizers a DJ and great drink. On normal days, we like to catch the appetizers with a bowl of Ramen or my husband's favorite is the fried rice!!! It's a little smaller inside, but it's intimate and very cozy. Staff is often very helpful and quick.

The restaurant…read moreis a cozy and dimly lit ramen shop in Rockridge with a bar area close to the front entrance and a good amount of seating. The front entry way is a bit narrow, so it may be slightly awkward if there are others waiting in the same area. The restaurant was quite busy when I went, and most tables were occupied, which seemed surprising for a Tuesday night. I arrived a few minutes before our reservation time and was seated right away. The menu features a special along with a handful of appetizers and ramen dishes. There were also two fried rice options. One thing to note, I did not notice any ramen dishes with tonkatsu broth, it was either shoyu or miso broth. However, each ramen option appears to have a good amount of toppings. Both my friend and I opted to order the Meyer Lemon Shoyu Veggie ramen without egg. The dish took longer than expected and while I liked the addition of the baby carrots and broccolini, the broth was lacking flavor (I didn't notice much of the Meyer lemon flavor) and the noodles were mediocre. Considering the price of the dish ($28.50), I expected the ramen to be more palatable and impressive or loaded up with veggies. It would've been nice to have more toppings in the dish, maybe some sautéed mushrooms or roasted eggplant, without having to request/pay for add ons. The broth was bland and I was hoping for a noticeable, citrusy flavor, which didn't come through. My friend and I opted to order and share both dessert options. We both liked the Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was warm and comforting and paired well with vanilla ice cream. I thought the black sesame ice cream sandwich was good too. Although, the brown butter cookies had more of a crunchy, cracker-like texture and not the type of cookie I was expecting. Customer service was kind and attentive, and I had no issues there. I think the main drawback is the price for each dish and the lackluster flavor of the ramen. For 2 bowls of veggie ramen and two desserts, the total was $91+ before tip. We didn't order any appetizers or drinks, and the cost seemed too steep for what we ordered to be honest. While it was worth checking out, I am not fully sure if a return trip is worthwhile. It may be best to visit a different ramen shop for a truly flavorful dish and a better meal.
