    Shredded pork belly ramen
    Priyanka S.

Itani ramen in Oakland sadly fell short. When I went with a group of friends for one of my friends birthday we decided to order the karage chicken as well as the minced pork belly ramen and both were not as flavorful as expected. The karaage chicken was not very crispy and felt a bit soggy towards the bottom as they were plated atop a base of sweet soy sauce. The chicken skin itself while having some chili powder was not coated enough and fell flat in flavor. The shredded pork belly ramen was quite similar in nature and tasted very mild almost border lining on tasting bland so we asked for chili oil which the restaurant did not have. While edible and moderate in flavor I would say pass on the ramen and karaage here as there are far more flavorful ramen places in Oakland such as Mensho ramen.

Came here during the week and it was decently crowded. It wasn't a problem getting seated, since the establishment is big and there's plenty of seating. The food was good!! Definitely get the sloppy gyoza! They offer pork and veggies, so I tried the veggies and they were delicious. The Miso Pork ramen tasted a little more fishy and bitter. But the noodles were cooked well and overall it was good. I look forward to coming back!

I live in the area and have been walking past this spot for over a year now and have been meaning to try them. They always have a good size crowd inside the restaurant, and upon arrival I was given by staff who were really friendly! I started off by having their Mocktail of the day, which was a passionfruit drink, and was really yummy and I recommend trying that. The waffle fries were a 10 out of 10 I would come back just for that and the veggie Ramen was OK for me. I wish I had a little bit more flavor in the broth. I will say The vegetables tasted really fresh as well as the noodles! If anything, I would try another Ramen as I would assume the broth would have more flavor since it is meat based Ramen.

came for the ayce crab feed for my boyfriend's birthday, and that experience was amazing! not a fan of the fried chili crab but everything else was tasty, especially the milk bread with nori butter. i need that everyday haha. i hate to say though the ramen was not good. neither the oxtail or spicy miso. the oxtail meat was tasty and so was the crab meat but the broth and noodles didn't really work together. i feel like the noodles didn't absorb any flavor like other ramen places and maybe the noodles were just too thick or were put into the bowl right before being served, but it was like eating two different things. we ended up not eating the ramen after a few bites and felt bad for the restaurant as well as ourselves as everything was over $300. just to clarify though it was that price for the ayce crab feed (which included ramen) not their normal restaurant prices lol

This review is based on my delivery order. I had the Recovery Meal; includes your choice of a ramen bowl, 3 pieces veggie or pork gyoza, negi chashu mini donburi or small salad, and a non-alcoholic drink. I opted for the Veggie Ramen, veggie gyoza, salad, and Yuzu lemonade. The veggie ramen was flavorful. The veggie gyoza with the dipping sauce, yummy! The dressing on the salad made it so delicious. I'm a huge fan of yuzu and the yuzu lemonade really hit the spot! I appreciate restaurants that have okay-based and vegan options. I hope they expand on these options.

Just what we wanted prior to going to the Paramont to see Home Alone. The Miso pork ramen, oxtail ramekin hit the spot and warmed out inside. Just a few blocks from the theater.

The food was good but not the most flavorful broth. It's a simple ramen so it is good but the flavor isn't as deep as I like my ramen. It also costs extra for minor add ons.

I've been here twice and am planning to go many more times. I've tried the miso pork ramen and the spicy shrimp ramen. The miso pork ramen had a very rich and savory broth, very well seasoned and not too salty. I added in some of the spicy (probably msg?) from the table and it gave it just that nice extra umami flavor. The spicy shrimp ramen wasn't my favorite and I wouldn't have it again. The broth was not as rich and the spice level was not spicy enough in my opinion. But my friend had it also and loved it so to each their own. I also had the karage chicken which I do not recommend, it was not crispy and the texture was very off putting. The service is great, they bring the food out in a timely manner which is great to go during a lunch during the workday. Overall recommend this place very much.

First time here. Food was a bit salty here. I could have done with 30-40% less salt for both the ramen and kimchi fried rice. That being said, at least the salt was good? It just didn't need so much, or maybe it's a personal preference. Many other people seem to feel that the broth is actually not too salty. But lovelyyy ambiance. Location is convenient as can be. Servers were great.

My gf and I stopped by Sunday night before the pink sweats concert as it's walking distance from the fox theatre. We were seated quite quickly and ready to order as we were running with limited time. We ordered the pork donburi and the pork ramen as well. Both came out smelling so good and tasty too! Their portions are quite generous as well and tons of flavor. Overall, for our quick visit; itani ramen is the perfect spot for a quick bite. Will definitely be back if we're ever in the mood!

We came by after dinner next door to get something for our kid. As soon as we walked in, the smell was amazing, so we ended up ordering ramen for ourselves too. Service was good, friendly staff, even brought out coloring paper for our kid. The ramen was decent, simple and basic, but for the price and portion, we probably wouldn't come back. The restaurant was roomy and clean.

I enjoy the drinks and bites, but my review is a story for something a little more delightful for me that a stranger working made just that much better. This is where my husband took me on our first "sneak" date in 2019 and where he proposed to me in 2023. After he dropped to one knee quietly in our little corner, someone working there played "4Ever" by Lil Mo! That became the song walked down to after jumping our broom because of that moment. That is top notch service! I hope that person sees this review... We were married on 6/29/25! We'll be back.

Does this place still make the noodles with an Italian Pasta Maker?

We no longer make them in the basement with that Italian machine. The volume became too much for us. We gave our recipe to a local noodle maker and they produce much larger quantities than we could make in a week.

The restaurant was packed and seating is pretty limited, so I'd highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. The atmosphere is lively and energetic with casual Japanese eatery vibes, and service was friendly throughout the meal. Everything felt creative, rich in flavor, and very texture-focused. Here are the highlights: * Ankimo Mousse (monkfish liver) with sweet potato chips - Made with truffle paste, capers, and chives. Absolutely delicious. The mousse was rich and savory but surprisingly fluffy in texture -- honestly a savory girl's dream. The sweet potato chips added just enough sweetness and a snap to balance the richness of the liver. 9/10 * Bluefin Tuna & Tsubugai Sashimi Nuta - Bluefin tuna, sea snail, broccolini, and fresh wakame tossed in a sweet Kyoto yuzu miso vinaigrette. Kind of like a sashimi-seaweed salad. I really liked the vinaigrette and especially the texture of the sea snail. I'm not sure all the ingredients fully came together cohesively, but it was still enjoyable overall. 7.5/10 * Yuba (house-made tofu skin with ikura and uni) - Served as single bites on spoons. SO good. You can really taste the difference between house-made tofu skin and store-bought. It's much more delicate, creamy, and tender, with a mild soybean flavor that balanced the richness of the uni and salmon roe beautifully. The textures in this bite were incredible. 9.5/10 * Iberico Pork Jowl Skewer with miso marinade - I honestly prefer pork jowl over pork belly. The fat and meat are more integrated instead of layered, so every bite is tender, juicy, and flavorful with just the right amount of chew. So good. 9/10 * Clam & Cilantro Ramen - I've never had a ramen broth quite like this. It was slightly creamy and deeply flavored from the clams, and the cilantro added a lot of depth and freshness. The noodles had a great texture too -- chewy and bouncy. Everything worked together perfectly. 9/10 * Uni Carbonara Pasta - Pasta with parmesan, uni, and ikura. They do not skimp on the uni or roe here. Super creamy and rich with bursts of saltiness from the ikura. The texture was great, but I honestly wished it had just a tiny bit more salt to really make all the flavors pop. It was almost there for me. 7.5/10 * Desserts - We tried two desserts, including the sweet potato brûlée. Both were delicious. One had a silky panna cotta-like texture, while the sweet potato brûlée was creamy, lightly sweet, and had the perfect crackly sugar top. 9/10 Overall, such a fun meal with a lot of unique dishes and flavor combinations. There are still so many things on the menu I want to try next time. I'll definitely be back.

The standouts were the corn tempura, the sushi and the beef okonomiyaki. The skewers were good but not great; I felt the pork belly was a tad salty, and some of the pieces of the beef were slightly overcooked + chewy. The black cod was flaky but I wish it was marinated a bit more with the miso for stronger flavor. I wish I did not order the spring roll or the foil wrapped salmon. The spring roll was soggy bc the filling inside was so damp and lacked seasoning & flavor. The salmon was very dry, but the mushrooms were flavorful and juicy. Definitely recommend reservations or be ready to wait at least 45 minutes. The inside is quite small, tables as well, so be ready to sit pretty close to your neighboring patrons. Very lively atmosphere that can get loud, but could also be fun!

I tried the Kamo Nanban and a beef/pork cutlet. The Kamo Nanban was delicious. The noodles were cooked to perfection - neither overcooked nor undercooked. The duck melted in your mouth with every bite. I usually find duck to be more tough, but this was so much more tender. There was also a perfect portion for duck to noodles, so there was enough for each bite and to finish the meal. The beef/pork cutlet was really good too. My partner ordered the spicy vegan ramen and thought it was terrific, though we both agreed the broth wasn't as rich as we're used to. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, but unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. The broth felt a bit underwhelming, and the pork flavor came across stronger than I expected. That said, I'd definitely come back, especially because of the thoughtful vegan options. Next time, I'll probably try the Chashu Bowl, which looked really good when it came out at another table. It's big & small at the same time. Tables are a plenty, but space is tight. It's really hard to get around in here, you'll have to squeeze between people, tables, chairs, and just walking to the bathroom or your table, you'll have to zig-zag and squeeze past many obstacles. But, it's worth it, and classically Japanese Izakaya, and judging from the packed restaurant on a Friday night, everyone came here to socialize, eat, drink, and hangout & have fun. Music was also very pop-py Japanese, so it really set the right mood for an energetic & fun experience. The service was great. Lots of wait staff roaming around the restaurant ready to take orders & answer questions. Prices are fairly affordable, and offers you a chance to try many small dishes, or splurge on larger entrees. Since we were going to a concert that would go well into the night, we wanted to keep or food intake light, and alcohol intake heavy! The cocktails are good, diverse, creative, authentic, and tasty, but rather small for $15. There is no bartender, the drinks come out to you from the kitchen, but service was fast & efficient. We tried a Lemon Sour, Lychee Mojito, and Ume Shiso. Each were well crafted & presented, but pretty tiny and with very little alcohol, but lots of flavor. We ordered the Mushroom Hot plate, Agadashi Tofu, and salt & pepper broccoli. Food was tasty, portions small, and everything was pretty salty & oily. It's an Izakaya, so I did expect small plates to share in between sips of drinks, but I think the food kind of missed the mark. I ended up feeling a little sick from the salt & oil in the food, but the alcohol kept me going. I think we will come back to try some fresher seafood & Sushi next time, and skip the heavy fried appetizers. Might also stick to wine, beer, or sake, as the cocktails were pretty pricey & small & weak in alcohol. But, it's a really fun, upbeat spot. Lots of eye candy to look at as you are hanging out, eating, drinking, and having fun. The decor & atmosphere is so fun, creative, detailed, and pop-culture Japanese. I really felt like I was transported to an Izakaya in Tokyo for the hour that we were there. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, and I'd like to go back to explore the menu as well as artwork & displays around the restaurant. We had 3 drinks and 3 appetizers, and our bill was around $100. We left satisfied with our Japanese Izakaya experience here, only disappointed by the size & weakness of the alcoholic cocktails, the saltiness & greasiness of the fried foods, and I even felt a little bit fat trying to squeeze into the aisles & tables of the restaurant as a 6' 150" thin asian man, lol. Oh well, I guess Tokyo is dense and Japanese spaces are supposed to be small, tight, and narrow. That mostly added to the authentic Japanese Izakaya experience. PS, it's pretty loud & crowded & busy here, so don't expect to have a calm, quiet, and peaceful conversation here, you'll have to shout above the music, chatter, and noise of the urban jungle here, which actually adds to the classic Izakaya experience. It was a lot of fun, but not a lot alcohol. 3 cocktails and I didn't even catch a buzz!
