This has become my go to when I need a quick sushi fix. Parking is easy, with the big Alameda Marketplace parking lot. They have a good selection of fresh sushi rolls and nigiri sets already made. I've ordered sushi to go from the case next to their register a number of times, and ordered a more robust meal this week. I ordered the ikura nigiri, unagi nigiri, and the beluga roll (tuna, tempura shrimp, cucumber, topped with white tuna and sauces). It was good! The sushi was fresh and by no means did they skimp out on fish. My son and I shared a lunch salmon box featuring 4 salmon nigiri, 4 pieces of salmon roll and 3-4 pieces of salmon sashimi and it was about $18-$20 which is fine, although this spot is more of a kiosk with the boxes in a refrigerator case vs made fresh to order. It's located in the Alameda marketplace, so you order and then you either take it to go, or you can find a table/seat at the public seating the other restaurants share, and there is a few tables outside. Service wasn't necessarily with a smile, but again, quick, sufficient and the fish was good. While I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for it, if you're jonesing for sushi and need to pick up some goods at this food hall style spot, it works. read more

It's honestly not bad for what it is. I don't ever come here because it's inside a supermarket next to a couple of other places to eat. Barely any parking or places to sit. But if you need a quick take out spot, this is not bad. They have sushi sitting out in their fridge you can pick from right away if you're in a rush. I haven't tried those yet and to be honest, it doesnt matter where I'm at, I don't think I'd ever pick sushi from a fridge like that. They also have a menu you can look at and order from, those they make on the spot. I saw a mango roll on the menu and was instantly a sucker for it. The other roll I got was an A's roll. I finished both rolls and was perfectly full from it so it was average sized in terms of potions The rolls came out pretty fast and was average. If you're ever in need of a quick sushi fix and in a rush, this is a good spot. You can even go grocery shopping after. read more

Our house favorites are: Inari California roll Avocado cucumber maki Spicy crunch krab maki Y2K roll (shrimp, krab, cucumber, avo) Beluga roll Double Hamachi Bento #5 Shrimp tempura Side of tobiko Super friendly staff. Awesome take-out sushi. There is a parking lot which can be busy, but I've always managed to find a spot, and often you can find parking on Buena Vista. It's in a market place with lots of other great vendors. If you're dining in, inside there are tables near SIPS global teas and Barons, and also a counter by Feel Good Bakery. There are tables outside along Buena Vista, and also a patio area outside the main entrance near the parking lot. I think the low rating is strange. The food is fresh and yummy, like I said it's our go-to take-out sushi spot. It's not Utzutzu, or Kiss Seafood (formerly in SF now closed, so sad, best sushi I've ever eaten in my life), or any other super high-end sushi restaurant, and it's not pretending to be. For take-away sushi or even casual dine in the quality is very good. read more

I've been eating sushi king for what feels like 20 years plus! there is a small bar with a few stools in front of the chef but it is inside the food hall so you can take your order and sit outside or at any of the tables in the space. Hubby and I were going to go out to eat with our friends, but there has been change of plans so we were trying to decide where to go to grab food. We went out for errands and he had wanted to get i-Tea. I remembered there was a sushi place nearby and suggested that we can get a few rolls. I remember going out to eat here pre-Covid with Hubby and another friend and it was good. We went to order the rolls we want and went to i-Tea to grab our drinks. The people working there were kind. We got our drinks quick and I asked for an update just to see how much longer and he told me about another 5 ish minutes since it needs to bake. As we waited, we wondered around the grocery store just looking around. The rolls were good, but it could've been better. The Lion King was the best one out of the 3 that we have gotten. It doesn't taste like how it use to be when we first went there to eat, but it wasn't bad. Maybe the rolls will taste better eating right then and there? But who knows. Sushi is FRESH here, which is so nice! You can taste it in all of their different food items. We've had their sashimi, nigiri, maki, rolls (both fresh & baked). All very delicious items. They even have to-go items in the fridge in front of their business such as sushi rolls, ginger, teas, and miso paste. It is located within the Marketplace on Park St., close to the bridge. They are very pleasant. I called in an order for 2 rolls recently (Orange Blossom + Lion King) and it was done within 10 minutes. My only gripe was that the Lion King was not baked long enough to have that melted, baked taste. But the taste of the fresh fish in it was VERY pleasing so safe to say, I'll be coming back to this business more often and just let them know of the baked preference read more

Timing - no surprise - is everything. I arrived c. 11:45 AM on a weekday and there was no wait and no hubbub or jostling. I asked about the faux crab and other faux possibilities (which I don't care for), settled on tuna sushi. Each piece was rolled in sesame seeds and had avocado as well as the fresh fish inside; it comes with wasabi, soy sauce & fresh ginger. I teased the counter guy about artificial tuna and/or avocado. He just said he'd never heard of either. More important, he offered to nuke my miso soup so that it was hot. That made all the difference - their miso soup is very good, lots of tasty seaweed. I sat at one of the nearby tables and enjoyed the calm & my meal before the lunchtime crush. The amount of food was ample and I left well-satisfied. Since the doors on Park are now locked, that likely has cut down on foot traffic in the area next to the tables. Just enter on the parking lot side. With 15% tip, the meal was just shy of $19. Not a bad price all in all. Glad I gave them another try. read more

Sushi King restaurant is one of the BEST sushi spots I've eaten at in many, many years! It's clean and cozy, and their service is repeatedly satisfactory; the staff is always friendly, and their menu selections are one-of-a-kind. You can even ask them (nicely) to add other items to your sushi order that you might see on their menu.  The "Itamae" and  "Shokunin" make Sushi King an authentic Japanese culinary experience here in Alameda. To me, this is one of the few sushi places in Alameda that are consistent. It may not be comparable to the most expensive or popular sushi spots on the island, but I know what to expect every time. Other sushi spots, even popular ones, are pretty inconsistent when it comes to quality - sometimes rolls are rolled well, other times not so much, or the cut of fish is thick one day and thin the next - not this place. I've been coming here for years, sometimes weekly, and it always meets my expectations. It's not a restaurant to sit and eat. There are a few tables outside of the market, plus some eating areas inside, but think of it as cafeteria style. I wouldn't choose this for a meeting where you'll need quiet or some privacy or to accommodate a family. But it's okay if you're going solo and if you're okay picking up and walking over to a park or the beach. All the workers I've interacted with here are pretty nice and patient, too. read more

I like sushi king's spicy tuna rolls. They are cheap and a stable for my weekday lunch. I find their other rolls to be okay but something about their simple spicy tuna just hits different. I like that the tuna is ground and mixed with seasoning and heat instead of just throwing some sriracha on top of a regular tuna roll like some other places do. They're located inside a marketplace with plenty of parking and have a few rolls pre packed and ready to go but I always ask them to make mine fresh because sometimes to pre-packaged ones can have staler rice if it was made earlier in the day. The workers are always very pleasant and polite and I will continue to return for my spicy tuna rolls. My only suggestion would be if they wanted to start doing some sort of loyalty program...that would be dope. The sushi is ok, not the highest of quality, not huge rolls... but for the price ($9-$12), it's pretty good. When I am just looking to get some sushi and not breaking the bank, you are a good choice. My Poke bowl left me with little flavor. I had it freshly prepared, no rice, so I could customize it but not happening. Ok, so I accept that all bowls will have avocado, seafood protein, ginger, and some dressing. I asked for extra dressing because I essentially have a salad...there was a little dressing on one side of the bowl...who wants stuffed spring mix with no dressing... Was pleasantly surprised by the sushi here. They had a nice selection in the cold case you could grab to go and I was surprised to see fatty salmon belly! I ordered a nigiri mix (chefs choice) from the menu. Came with a really good selection of nigiri including squid and mackerel. They subbed out the unagi and tuna for me with the fatty salmon belly I'd been eyeing in the cold case which was yummy and soft. The fish was not too cold, which is how it should be. I appreciated the extra work they put into our meal today! I ordered the day before for my office and they were willing to work with us to stay Covid safe. They put everything in individual containers per person/order so we didn't need to divide everything once it was unpacked. They were willing to have someone else call in and pay for it and have me pick it up. Overall taste was good Flavors leave a little to be desired (lots of mayo in the California roll) and they need to work on their roll rolling skills (some of the roll ends came out more rice then any fillings, meat is off center in tuna roll etc) and they don't deliver. For price point, taste, friendliness of staff and ease I would say worth a visit, but if your looking for high grade GREAT sushi (and willing to pay the price) there are better places around. read more

Whoever you are, I love you. For me to share my precious with you.. Man, it would take an act of ROTD (YAY, first one was yesterday!). Ready baby? Sushi King in the Alameda Market Hall. It's cheap as hell, (understandably, there's no one screaming at you in Japanese when you walk in and leave), fresh as all hell (believe you me baby, believe you me..). And really, what the hell else do you want? Unless you're in the school of thought that sushi should come in rolls as big as your face. Screw that, ohhh baby I like it raw! Generous cuts of sashimi without any fight when you want to choose the fish in the sashimi combos. Louisa, the order taker girl, is the sweetest little thing that I ever did see. Wai, the chef, is silent but infallible in his knife skills. It's in a marketplace that has different specialty food shops (think mini-Ferry Building). All of which is great.. The butcher lets you buy cuts of cow and dry-age it in his locker. Stuff like that, ya dig? The sucky part? They close at 8pm Mon-Sat, 7pm Sun. I've put my heart out to you, whoever you are.. I'm currently on a mission to try every little eatery in the Alameda Marketplace. I could've asked the chef to make me one of the rolls from scratch, but my stomach was about to make a scene. I looked at the pre-made rolls, which looked far more delicious than other markets.....Without a 2nd thought ,I grabbed the Spicy Tuna Roll ($5.50 )and Double Rainbow Roll ($5.50) , then sat down and feasted.
