I was looking for a sushi place in the area. I was surprised to see it was in Bayhill Plaza…read more Upon walking in, this place was packed. It seemed there was only one person who was the hostess, taking orders, and delivering the food. I give her mad props. With the dinner rush she was all over it. I placed my order for to go, she was super helpful, gave me her recommendations, and she had a smile on her face with everyone she encountered. This place has seemed to have gotten an elevated, more modern face lift/ renovation compared to the restaurant that used to be here. I was surprised that they didn't have standard sushi rolls that I'm usually accustomed to, but from the rolls that I've tried here... change is good. I ordered: 1. Corn tempura: First time seeing this, I love both corn and tempura. Had to see what it was about. It was perfection. Now it makes me wonder why this has never been done. 2. California roll: Standard staple and was good. 3. Warriors roll: It's an interesting combo, all items that I like.. first bite you're hit with a flavor explosion. At times I felt I couldn't taste the shrimp tempura, but the crunch from the crunchy onion ties it all together. 4. Beef steak: She recommended me to try this first before trying the daily special or short rib. She did not disappoint with this recommendation. The beef was so tender and flavorful. Overall, a great experience. I will definitely be back for more. I forgot to take pictures, because we inhaled the food so fast.

Haven't been to this restaurant in 7yrs and it's still just as delicious as I remember. My family…read moreand I went to Ichika for dinner last night and wow. My children ordered the ramen which had pork belly, corn, egg, scallion, seaweed, and the most flavorful tonkotsu broth which tasted like toasted sesame. Very bold flavor, I wouldn't stop reaching over to scoop up a spoonful of my daughter's broth. As for myself and my children's father, we ordered the phoenix roll and the double toro. Both were extremely tasty. The double toro melted in your mouth as it contained salmon belly and fatty tuna topped with mango and wasabi. The Phoenix roll ended up being my favorite although I wasn't the one who had chosen this initially. Omg, I can't even remember what was in it but the server let us know it was in their top 3 of most popular rolls. Sorry I couldn't provide much info on the phoenix but if you have a chance to drop into Ichika, absolutely try the Phoenix and double toro roll! I would usually order a chirashi bowl however, these were a bit in the pricey side starting at $40. I do remember I loved the chirashi here years ago so if you're willing to spend, it is worth trying here at Ichika.

Came back and got our tried and true spicy numbing fish. This time we tried the watercress which…read morewas cut into bite size pieces - something I haven't experienced before and a nice considerate touch since the leaves can be quite large. Also got the lamb hot pot which had substantial lamb inside, was just thrown off how herby it was. Staff and service attentive as usual.

I had a good meal at Boiling Beijing and would go back, especially to try the Peking duck…read more The interior of the restaurant is pretty old school, it reminds me of the way Chinese restaurants looked when I was a kid. This isn't a pro or con. They also have lots of large circular tables with food turntables on them, so this place is clearly ready for groups ordering a lot of shared dishes. Ordering is via QR-codes, which is quick, and the food comes out hot and fast. We started with the sautéed green beans, which were cooked nicely, still crisp, with a nice flavor from onions and whatever else they added. Good to get your greens, especially when they taste nice. Next to arrive was the cumin lamb. It had cumin flavor, but not much else, and the lamb was a little grainy and stringy. This was okay but could have been better. The herbs were a nice touch. Finally we had crispy shrimp, which were great. Cooked properly and I loved that the shells were included, so you can eat them too. I also liked the size of these, definitely in the two-bit range. The sweet glaze was very subtle, just a little something to make it interesting. I came here on a whim so we didn't preorder Peking duck, and they told us it would be an hour wait to get any. So we declined, but I would like to try it in the future. My friend paid so I'm not sure how expensive this was, but I think it's on the pricey side. Shrimp was worth it, lamb is skippable, duck is TBD. After the food came we didn't really have any waiters coming by to check on us, and we did run out of water. So I wouldn't call the service doting. Parking is not easy, you'll most likely have to walk a few blocks. They take credit cards but don't want to split bills, which is annoying.

Came to Laka for dinner and while it seems like they've done a 180 pivot from their original fare,…read moreI was pleasantly surprised to find that they offer breakfast all day. Words to my heart, you know. Despite being sold out on some of the items we wanted to try, we still really enjoyed what we did order. Portions were generous and not too pricy. Also, despite being late, their Chinese deli was still pretty fresh. The order of roast pork we had was well seasoned and featured that airy crispy skin to be completely envious of. That alone is a huge plus because we don't have a lot of places in the peninsula to pick up these items, especially compared to the city. The fish porridge was complete comfort. Texture was good and there was plenty of fish to go around. The pork noodles were deeply savory but the pops of pickled vegetables against the silky rice noodles also really hit the spot. The only dish that was a bit meh to me were the potstickers. The filling was a bit mushy and I'm not the biggest fan if the deep fried style. Pan fried is the king for me. Definitely keeping Laka as an option whenever I really need that comfort Chinese food fix.

While the congee felt overpriced and many Tuesday evening items were sold out, the great taste makes it worth a return visit. Roast pork is apparently their signature item.
