A little late to trying this place since I'm finally full time in Atlanta again... but it's So good. So perfect. You pick your own ingredients, spice, and broth level. There's a small sauce bar. The raw items are weighed and you pay at the end of your meal in case you want new items or appetizers. Items are plentiful and fresh. I would recommend filling up with veggies cause they're light!! They have some hard to find/ pricey items too. Bamboo shoots! Large variety of noodles. I chose bone broth with a very mild spice level and it was still spicyyyyyy! Prob gonna opt for no spice at all for myself next time. Sauce bar is small but good enough to add flavor to soup or to dip your cooked items. read more

The first time I was here, I got the extra spicy broth and it was actually pretty good. They had warned me about how spicy it would be (they weren't lying), but it was super flavorful and I still ended up enjoying it. The only weird thing was the checkout process. Every time I clicked custom tip, the machine supposedly did not take my payment and I had to retry. After the third payment where I clicked their default minimum tip option, it "finally" went through. Since it was primarily self-serve and all the waiters did was get us water, I wasn't expecting to tip as much. I decided to give them a second shot and, and it was a little more disappointing. The wait ended up being more than an hour, but I usually don't mind too much, especially for more popular places. However, I didn't think the food quality was worth the wait this time. After their extra spicy warning again, I ordered the spice level one under, which was medium. When my food came out, the broth seemed more lackluster and was missing depth and flavor. I'm not sure if it was due to the spice level I got, but I wish there was an option between medium and extra spicy. Another thing worth noting is that they have a minimum 1lb weight requirement for your bowl. If you're coming in with not a super big appetite, it can be a little annoying since other similar places don't enforce that same policy. Overall, I thought my experience was decent, but YGF probably wouldn't be my first option when deciding where to eat in the area. read more

My friends and I love coming here. You build your own hot pot bowl and pay by weight, so what you get is really adaptable. I'm a big hot pot fan, so I love that it's affordable and quick here. I always get a little carried away packing my bowl though, so I usually end up around the $20 range, although you can get it for less. The beef broth is my favorite because it's really rich and comforting, although the medium can be spicy for some! My friends love the mild tomato broth and the spicy dry mix as well. They have a great selection of meat, seafood, and vegetables to choose from. My favorite is their thick sliced lotus root! The service is quick and attentive. They have a good selection of ingredients to make your own dipping sauce. It's definitely a quicker/casual counter service vibe, and the breezy atmosphere is great for a day out with friends! Also love that you can order Molly Tea from next door from the counter! I love YGF and find myself coming back here again and again. :) read more

They have very fresh ingredients for Hotpot! Staff was very helpful to a first timer

I have been to this restaurant many times, and had wonderful experiences. We are normally a family of 8 when we come into this restaurant, and we drive an hour and a half just to eat there, but last night it was just 2 of us. However, our experience last night has guaranteed that we will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. The dining room was so cold. I had to go back out to my car to get a jacket. My teeth were literally chattering from me shivering so bad. Then when the bill came I realized I only had just enough cash with me to cover the bill total, and I didn't bring a card so I paid my bill, but unfortunately I didn't have enough cash to leave a tip, so I just paid the bill. The woman that took my payment said "the total doesn't include the tip!" So loud that the people eating at the tables to my left and my right turned to look at me. I told her, I know it doesn't but unfortunately I only have exact change right now. (I normally tip no less than 25% of the bill total after tax.) She left the table, I thought that was the end of the discussion regarding the tip. So after we had packed up our left overs and were heading out of the restaurant, this same woman comes up to me as I am trying to walk out the door, and once again says you didn't leave us a tip. Now everyone in the restaurant, and 4 people entering, and 3 more standing outside on the sidewalk hear her. At this point I am furious, because she is clearly trying to embarrass me into tipping her by having everyone looking at me. I turned to her and said, tipping is not mandatory in the state of GA, and it is extremely rude to chase a person down and demand that they tip you. As I told you at the table, today I only had exact change for our meal. You sat and watched me pull the money out of my wallet, so you saw that I didn't have extra cash. Trying to embarrass me into tipping is wrong. Then I walked away. read more

Like hot pot but your party disagrees on what to order? Have a vegetarian in your group? Or people with special dietary restrictions (no beef, no pork, etc)? Fear not! This is the beauty of this restaurant. Everyone gets to select their own items. You pay by the pound. How you cook your selected items are up to you. Broth and dry mixes are very savory. The level of umami are . Wait is long. You are seated after your items are weighed. And then you wait...and wait... it took us about 30 mins to wait for our orders to come out. The flaming spicy is Super Duper Hot. Beware! read more

This place packs a big bold flavors for soups! This is almost like a chipotle but for soups, they provide the broth and you pick out the meats, noodles, and veggies ect. There is a lot of variety to choose from, and the amount of food you can get for the money and quality is so worth it. The staff was very nice and quick, the restaurant itself is kinda packed and small but it is enough for you to grab a seat and enjoy the rich and flavorful soup! read more

YGF Malatang is a casual build your own bowl of hot pot. There are a variety of meats, noodles, and vegetables to add to your bowl, which has to reach a minimum weight of 0.9 pounds. At the end, you get to choose from various broths and the chefs "cook" it for you before giving it back to you at your table. There is also a table for you to build your sauces like you would at hot pot or shabu shabu. This place is not that big inside for the amount of people that come here... especially considering how popular Chinese food is these days, it gets super packed on weekends. I came on a Friday night and had to wait two hours before being seated. Despite the wait, the service was quick. I got the Sweet & Sour Tomato Flavor and added beef slices, spam, youtiao, instant noodles, and bok choy. I made the mistake of adding two instant noodle packs and lots of youtiao which soaked up the broth so I could not finish my malatang. My tomato broth was pretty good, but it definitely leaned more into the sweet flavor. I think my spam also made the broth a bit salty, so it was a lot to try to eat. I want to say that I am not a big fan of hot pot, so do not take my review that seriously. I was personally not a fan of my meal but I have friends who do enjoy eating here. read more

You get to pick whatever you want from the food bar and the pick the broth flavor. The food bar was organized and clean. Everything tasted fresh and hot. We were on the waitlist for about 30 mins before being seated other friends who had arrived before us said it was about 15 mins wait for them, so it appears this restaurant is picking up a lot, much more recently! All of the traffic must be from Molly tea which is boba tea right next door! The hotpot is different from normal hotpot restaurants because you get to pick what you want in your dish and then they weigh what you have and charge you. I think this is better than a regular hotpot that brings you so many plates with various meats you order all separate. However you have to hit a minimum weight or else they will send you back to pick out more items so come hungry! Overall the food here was good and the service was very quick! read more

First time having this but surprised I hadn't been in the past as this is a chain across the States. My friends and I went at 12:30 pm on a Saturday and was able to get in line fairly easily, although once 1 pm hit, there were able 11 parties waiting to order and be seated - definitely try to plan accordingly for busier lunch times. This customizable mala soup dish was delicious and warm for the winter! Being able to choose your ingredients really accommodates for those who are really hungry to those who are not so hungry. I got the bone beef broth with mild spineless, which was just the right amount of spice. Willl definitely be coming back. read more

A friend of mine has been hyping this place up for a while, so I finally decided to check it out with my kids and boy, she did not lie!!! I was a little hesitant at first because I'm not usually a fan of Szechuan most places are way too much for me. But this spot totally changed my mind! Compared to other hot pot places, this one is hands down our new favorite. The broth is so dang good! I always go for the classic beef broth, medium spicy and it's the perfect level of heat. Flavorful without that numbing feeling some spots have. I haven't tried the dry sauce yet, but I definitely will next time everyone says it's amazing! If you're looking for a solid hot pot spot that hits all the right notes, I'd highly recommend this one. My friend wasn't kidding, it's that good! read more

I can't believe how many times I've walked past YGF Malatang and never tried it until recently. My partner and I dropped by twice and wow, we've been missing out for years. They have a great selection of ingredients, which ranges from proteins to vegetables, tofu, and noodles. You pick what you want, toss it into a bowl, and take it to the register to be weighed (around $14 per lb). That's also where you choose your broth. I've only tried the Sweet & Sour Tomato Flavor and absolutely loved it. It's not spicy on its own, but you can add a little kick from the spice bar near the register. My partner went with the Classic Herbal Beef Bone Broth. He liked it a lot because it was savory, warm, and well-balanced. The ingredients in both of our dishes tasted fresh and the broths were delicious. read more

-- FOOD -- Great selection of items for malatang! They charge by weight so just add your items to the bowl and choose your broth! Their sauce bar is pretty small, but has all the classics: Sesame paste, garlic, green onion, crushed peanuts, soy sauce, chopped chilis, chili oil, cilantro, soy sauce, sesame oil, etc. -- SERVICE -- Good, quick service. Typically you pay after the meal and they'll come to you, but if they're really busy you may need to go to the counter to pay. They'll deliver your malatang to your table as well and refill your water. -- AMBIANCE -- Relatively small restaurant with close tables, but I do love that they have tables for single eaters. Wow!! The bowl was huge and definitely worth the price, though you do have to reach a certain weight before checking out. The wait time was a little over an hour, but it's understandable given how popular the place is right now. It's self-service, and you can scan the QR code at your assigned table to order drinks from next door, which was pretty convenient. I'd recommend it if you live nearby, but if you're coming from farther out, there are plenty of other great options around--especially in Duluth. read more

The items are set out in a buffet style bar and you pick your items out and place them in a giant bowl. (Pro tip: get the lighter items that bulk up your bowl for less cost! such as leafy greens and vermicelli noodles and avoid heavy dense items like potato's and carrots) At the cash register, they weigh your bowl and you pick your broth that they cook your items in! I picked bone broth and it was soooo flavorful! They even have a complimentary sauce bar to jazz up your broth if it's not enough for you. There are different ways to prepare your HOT POT, dry or soupy. You also need to choose the spiciness level. I usually get mild since they run spicier. I haven't tried the dry option. During busy times of the day, I would suggest going to the website and placing your name on the waitlist. The service is good and usually very good. This place is usually crowded and noisy. AUTHENTIC MALATANG in Metro Atlanta ITP Friendly service, but mostly self service. DIY Customize your ingredients and pay by weight. Vegan and vegetarian options and bold flavorful sauces. This is the cleanest restaurant I've seen in a long time. Firstly, ma 麻 = numbing + la 辣 =spicy. That means that the food should be both, not just spicy. They also have non-spicy options available. There appears to be some confusion lately as to the origins of malatang. Just FYI, it's from China, not from Korea. Over 7000 locations worldwide viral Chinese hot pot cafe for a reason. All my friends tell me this is their favorite restaurant in Georgia & ATL area so, I had to check it out myself. Sauce Recipe : Check below, where I post my famous sauce bar recipe for the perfectly balanced dipping sauce. If the sauce bar doesn't have quality ingredients, I don't trust it. Secret Pepper Oil : Check the sichuan peppercorn oil on their hotpot sauce bar. It makes the mala addictivly numbing + spicy. Pro Tip : If ordering the dry pot, order the sauce on the side. It's rich, delicious, but I recommend controlling your pour and using as a dipping sauce also. You can order additional side sauce to dip other items, like their crispy fried pork. 1 经典草本骨汤 Beef Bone Broth Malatang - I ordered very spicy, and even added more fragrant Sichuan peppercorn oil from the sauce bar to add more numbing flavor. Love the high quality ingredients here. 2 石磨醇香麻辣拌 Dry Pot - This is not oily malaxiangguo , which is typically stir-fried with sauce. The rich sesame based sauce is added later as a topping, that's why I recommend getting the sauce on the side. Great way to control your oil intake for a healthier meal. 3 小酥肉 Crispy Pork - Texture is important to me, that's why I like a crispy side item to go along with my noodles. Great for dipping in sauce or soup. 4 Dessert - I've tried both the desserts here and love both the 南瓜饼 pumpkin cakes and the 红糖糍粑 brown sugar cakes. Both are mochi qq & crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside. Dessert is a must-try. Conveniently located inside the Doraville Hmart plaza. Coty's Hotpot Sauce Bar Recipe : - 5 spoons green onion - 5 spoons cilantro - 3 spoons soy sauce - 1 spoon sesame oil - 2 spoons black vinegar - 1 spoon sugar - 1 spoon garlic - 1 spoon chili crisp ( strain out oil ) Mix well. Eat food while picking up some cilantro and onion also. read more

This place is fire and cost friendly. You can really build your own and the spices aren't over powering. Definitely going back!

Yay for this BYO hotpot place! Finally, a hotpot place that is not AYCE and is not limited to preset entrees - you go through a line and add whatever meats, veggies, noodles, and goodies that you want, your bowl gets weighed, the kitchen takes your bowl to add the broth, and you pay at the end of the meal. I enjoyed my food and felt that the price/lb is fair. They give you a lot of broth which makes for great leftovers if you can't finish it all. They also have a separate sauce bar where you can build your own creation while you're waiting for your food. If you want rice, it's an additional charge. I'm not sure if they have aprons available to use, but I was greatly in need of one. Since the broth is generally red, if splashes onto your clothing it will leave a stain. Plenty of free parking in the plaza read more

I've been craving mala for a hot minute, and this place was the closest one that I've heard lots of good things about. I tried taking pictures of the variety of noodles, vegetables, and meats they had- fairly diverse and to pick from. They didn't have frog legs, but had pork intestine, pork belly, beef, lamb, and other stuff I pictured. It was $13.99 per lb, includes this sauce and water stand, and has plenty of seating and free parking in the lot. Service was quick and kind, you pay after eating the meal. They have free wifi here too. For my soup, I got the classical herbal beef bone broth at a level 2 for mild spicy. I wasn't sure if I should get the medium spicy, but next time I will because this was ordinary spice. The broth wasn't soupy and was kind of thick, with great flavor. I took the rest of it home, will come back to try the dry mala and more spicy! read more

Service was not nice at all. Got there around 8 and before we even had a chance to go get food they were like we close soon. It was 8pm lol... The food process was pretty simple, you choose what you like and weigh it. I would say I wish they have separate tongs for the meat. You use one for the entire process and idk if there is any cross contamination. After choosing your items and soup, they weight it for you and then they choose the table you sit at. The tables are definitely were packed together. We waited around 40 minutes for our food so we got it around 8:45. And then 10 minutes later they came to ask us to put it in to go containers or eat faster cause they were closing. Overall, I did not like being rushed to eat a hot and spicy soup especially after waiting 40 minutes for my meal. read more

Anybody leaving a negative review likely got their entitled feelings hurt. Let me tell you this is one of my favorite places in Atlanta. Yes - there can be a long wait and they might cut service due to that - it happens. Yes - you pick your ingredients buffet-style - I love that, especially not knowing much of the language, it's a bonus. I've seen ppl complain that they will encourage you to tip - okay? They keep that place clean as a whistle, the food is AMAZING, the broth alone is incredible, and they are on top of anything you need. If you choose not to tip and want to complain? YGF is so simple and easy that if you are looking for a no thought kind of meal, this is your place. It being in the HMart parking lot is perfect because it is the perfect post-grocery shopping meal. When you enter the restaurant, you grab your bowl and tongs and simply fill your bowl with whatever you like. At the end, the price is determined by the weight of your bowl. It's $13.99/lb. There is a WIDE variety of toppings, and I loved that they had so many different kinds like intestines and woodear mushrooms. At the cashier, you get to decide what kind of broth you would like. I opted for the tomato while my husband got the classic beef broth. I enjoyed the tomato, though I did prefer the classic beef broth that my husband got. Once you decide your broth, the cashier tells you what table you'll be sitting at. You do not pay at the cashier! Once you walk to your table, you'll find utensils and water already sitting for you. There is a sauce bar to the left of the cashier for you to use as well. The servers will bring out your soup once it's ready, and when you're ready to pay, they'll come by your table with a tablet for you to pay on. Overall, it is really simple, and the meal is super cheap if you are reasonable with what you get. read more

I'm a fan of YGF Malatang! We found this place two weeks ago, and we've eaten here twice already. Malatang is similar to hot pot; however, malatang is cooked by the kitchen staff and it's a one-bowl-per-person meal. Parking spaces can be found easily in the very large shared parking lot for all retail businesses at Peachtree Pavilion shopping center. The sign outside YGF Malatang displays YANGGUOFU Create Your Own Hot Pot, so if you see this sign walk in and you'll be acknowledged by one of the employees who will ask how many then point you toward the food bar. Start with picking up a big bowl and a pair of tongs at the far end of the food bar. The concept is for you to place as many items as you care to eat into the bowl. You will be charged according to the weight of all food items, which are uncooked when weighed. As of the date of me writing this review, the charge is $13.99 per pound. So far, some of my favorite items to pick from the food bar are the shaved beef slices, shrimp balls, crab meat, black fungus, two packs of vermicelli noodles, Napa cabbage, spinach, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, baby bok choy, bean sprouts. There are certainly a lot more items to pick from - shaved lamb and pork, various seafood items, various noodles and a big selection of vegetables. The employees at the counter will weigh all of the food in your bowl and let you know how much you'll have to pay after you're done eating (they'll give you a receipt), will take your tongs and bowl, will ask you which broth you want (I have chosen the mild spicy beef broth), and direct you to your assigned table. Your bowl gets sent to the kitchen. Let the employees at the counter know if you'd like to drink anything else other than water. Glasses of water and eating utensils are placed at your table before you sit down. While you're waiting for your bowl of soup, you can go to the small sauce station, pick up a dipping sauce bowl and create your own sauce concoction with a small variety of wet and dry ingredients, including cut green onions, garlic, cilantro (I think), red chili sauce, vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, black pepper and other items I can't remember. The sauce I make tends to be heavy on the red chili sauce, with some sesame oil, salt, pepper, onion garlic, soy sauce, vinegar and cilantro mixed in. Employees will bring your bowl of soup (in a different bowl) containing everything that you personally selected from the food bar, now cooked and steaming hot with the broth that you picked. The mild spicy beef bone broth is spicy enough to open up my sinuses, so increasing the spiciness is just asking for trouble for me. The broth also has a great flavor, although I dip most of everything that's in the both into my dipping sauce before eating it. The employees come by and refill your water glasses during your meal, and will provide you your check when you're ready to pay. I can't think of anything negative about my experiences eating at YGF Malatang, and that's why I'm a big fan and rated this restaurant 5-starts. read more

I love the concept of a malatang, you grab a giant bowl and tongs and just grab whatever food you want and in the end they weight it and add your choice of broth. The selection is amazing, they have pretty much anything you could want and even stuff like duck blood that I would never expect to find! I got so much stuff and got the mild beef broth and it tasted amazing! I wanted to get the medium spicy beef broth but the lady said if I wanted to drink the soup I should get mild. The place was also super clean and neat and got super packed really quick. Even though there were so many people, the service was AMAZING. I don't think I've been somewhere that had better service! Build your own bowl/pay by the weight place! It's $13.99/lb with a huge array of ingredients. You grab a bowl and tongs and go at it. Picking whatever ingredients you'll like to have. I love to experiment so I grab one of something that looks interesting and know for next time to grab it or not. You use one tong throughout the process (it's a good or bad thing depending on how you see it). Service was pretty fast and good at refilling water. The sauce bar was limited but manageable. You pay after your meal at your table. So speaking on the broth, because I ordered the classic herbal beef bone, it was really good. The cashier talked me out of getting flaming hot which I regretted because medium was not spicy enough. I enjoyed the balance between the flavoring and the depth of the bone broth. I also tried the dry pot, pleasant grind mix, and it was fine but I wouldn't get it again or recommend it. I feel the broth shines better for this restaurant. So the vibe - it was really close seating and tabling. It's almost like you were rubbing elbows with your neighbor. I couldn't breathe without getting into their bubble space. It's not bad once everyone is settled but if for some sick joke you get seated next to a table who felt the need to get in and out of their seat gazillions of times, it gets unpleasant having someone's butt or crotch right next to my face and meal constantly. read more
