The first time I was here, I got the extra spicy broth and it was actually pretty good. They had warned me about how spicy it would be (they weren't lying), but it was super flavorful and I still ended up enjoying it. The only weird thing was the checkout process. Every time I clicked custom tip, the machine supposedly did not take my payment and I had to retry. After the third payment where I clicked their default minimum tip option, it "finally" went through. Since it was primarily self-serve and all the waiters did was get us water, I wasn't expecting to tip as much. I decided to give them a second shot and, and it was a little more disappointing. The wait ended up being more than an hour, but I usually don't mind too much, especially for more popular places. However, I didn't think the food quality was worth the wait this time. After their extra spicy warning again, I ordered the spice level one under, which was medium. When my food came out, the broth seemed more lackluster and was missing depth and flavor. I'm not sure if it was due to the spice level I got, but I wish there was an option between medium and extra spicy. Another thing worth noting is that they have a minimum 1lb weight requirement for your bowl. If you're coming in with not a super big appetite, it can be a little annoying since other similar places don't enforce that same policy. My friends and I love coming here. You build your own hot pot bowl and pay by weight, so what you get is really adaptable. I'm a big hot pot fan, so I love that it's affordable and quick here. I always get a little carried away packing my bowl though, so I usually end up around the $20 range, although you can get it for less. The beef broth is my favorite because it's really rich and comforting, although the medium can be spicy for some! My friends love the mild tomato broth and the spicy dry mix as well. YGF Malatang is a casual build your own bowl of hot pot. There are a variety of meats, noodles, and vegetables to add to your bowl, which has to reach a minimum weight of 0.9 pounds. At the end, you get to choose from various broths and the chefs "cook" it for you before giving it back to you at your table. There is also a table for you to build your sauces like you would at hot pot or shabu shabu. They have a great selection of ingredients, which ranges from proteins to vegetables, tofu, and noodles. I'm a fan of YGF Malatang! We found this place two weeks ago, and we've eaten here twice already. Malatang is similar to hot pot; however, malatang is cooked by the kitchen staff and it's a one-bowl-per-person meal. Parking spaces can be found easily in the very large shared parking lot for all retail businesses at Peachtree Pavilion shopping center. The sign outside YGF Malatang displays YANGGUOFU Create Your Own Hot Pot, so if you see this sign walk in and you'll be acknowledged by one of the employees who will ask how many then point you toward the food bar. Start with picking up a big bowl and a pair of tongs at the far end of the food bar. The concept is for you to place as many items as you care to eat into the bowl. You will be charged according to the weight of all food items, which are uncooked when weighed. As of the date of me writing this review, the charge is $13.99 per pound. So far, some of my favorite items to pick from the food bar are the shaved beef slices, shrimp balls, crab meat, black fungus, two packs of vermicelli noodles, Napa cabbage, spinach, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, baby bok choy, bean sprouts. There are certainly a lot more items to pick from - shaved lamb and pork, various seafood items, various noodles and a big selection of vegetables. The employees at the counter will weigh all of the food in your bowl and let you know how much you'll have to pay after you're done eating (they'll give you a receipt), will take your tongs and bowl, will ask you which broth you want (I have chosen the mild spicy beef broth), and direct you to your assigned table. Your bowl gets sent to the kitchen. Let the employees at the counter know if you'd like to drink anything else other than water. Glasses of water and eating utensils are placed at your table before you sit down. While you're waiting for your bowl of soup, you can go to the small sauce station, pick up a dipping sauce bowl and create your own sauce concoction with a small variety of wet and dry ingredients, including cut green onions, garlic, cilantro (I think), red chili sauce, vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, black pepper and other items I can't remember. The sauce I make tends to be heavy on the red chili sauce, with some sesame oil, salt, pepper, onion garlic, soy sauce, vinegar and cilantro mixed in. Employees will bring your bowl of soup (in a different bowl) containing everything that you personally selected from the food bar, now cooked and steaming hot with the broth that you picked. The mild spicy beef bone broth is spicy enough to open up my sinuses, so increasing the spiciness is just asking for trouble for me. The broth also has a great flavor, although I dip most of everything that's in the both into my dipping sauce before eating it. The employees come by and refill your water glasses during your meal, and will provide you your check when you're ready to pay. Upon entering, one enters a reservation module which tells you how many are ahead of your party and takes a phone number to let you know when your table is ready. After being seated by a hostess, it is time to get tongs and a bowl for the various ingredients. Some were labeled and some were apparently assumed to be known to most patrons. A variety of noodles, vegetables, and meats are chosen (.9 # minimum apparently) then a sauce is chosen. There were six to choose from, I think. The soup I chose was written down for the kitchen staff. A short time later, an employee brought my bowl,of soup to my table. A reusable ladle and two chopsticks were at our table , as was the water we chose to drink. The soup was very hot when it arrived, but it cooled as it was eaten. A "to go" container was provided for what was left - mostly broth. The food was quite good although I am not sure we ordered well or chose our ingredients well. It was my first time dining here and won't be my last. It's not a very big restaurant and they only had a few empty tables when I got there around 6:30 pm. It's a create your own hot pot where you have both meats, noodles and vegetable options to fill your bowl with. I believe it's $13.99/lb. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The area where you pick your own food items was kept stocked and clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At the end, they weigh your food and choose the broth you want; I opted for the slightly spicy bone broth. We waited for 10-15 mins and our food came, the bone broth was super flavorful and everything I chose was cooked just right. Kinda like hot pot, but not as good. We had to wait over an hour for a table here, despite being quoted 45 min. Once you walk in, you grab a large bowl and tongs to pick out your ingredients. There isn't a huge selection of vegetables, especially leafy greens, but definitely many protein options. Afterwards, they weigh your bowl and ask for what type of broth or sauce. Although it's cheaper than most hot pot, our bowls ranged from $15 - $30. My friend accidentally got the non-broth sauce without knowing-- the flavor was pretty overwhelming. Broth is definitely the way to go! There is a very small sauce bar as well. If you're craving hot pot, this may satisfy your craving.
