Wow!! The bowl was huge and definitely worth the price, though you do have to reach a certain weight before checking out. The wait time was a little over an hour, but it's understandable given how popular the place is right now. It's self-service, and you can scan the QR code at your assigned table to order drinks from next door, which was pretty convenient. I'd recommend it if you live nearby, but if you're coming from farther out, there are plenty of other great options around--especially in Duluth.

You get to pick whatever you want from the food bar and the pick the broth flavor. The food bar was organized and clean. Everything tasted fresh and hot. The only thing is that they overcook some veggies and noodles and made them a little too soggy/soft. Service was fast and we never have to wait too long even though it's always busy. Would recommend if you're going with a smaller group!

First time having this but surprised I hadn't been in the past as this is a chain across the States. My friends and I went at 12:30 pm on a Saturday and was able to get in line fairly easily, although once 1 pm hit, there were able 11 parties waiting to order and be seated - definitely try to plan accordingly for busier lunch times. This customizable mala soup dish was delicious and warm for the winter! Being able to choose your ingredients really accommodates for those who are really hungry to those who are not so hungry. I got the bone beef broth with mild spineless, which was just the right amount of spice. Willl definitely be coming back.

A friend of mine has been hyping this place up for a while, so I finally decided to check it out with my kids and boy, she did not lie!!! I was a little hesitant at first because I'm not usually a fan of Szechuan most places are way too much for me. But this spot totally changed my mind! Compared to other hot pot places, this one is hands down our new favorite. The broth is so dang good! I always go for the classic beef broth, medium spicy and it's the perfect level of heat. Flavorful without that numbing feeling some spots have. I haven't tried the dry sauce yet, but I definitely will next time everyone says it's amazing! If you're looking for a solid hot pot spot that hits all the right notes, I'd highly recommend this one. My friend wasn't kidding, it's that good!

I can't believe how many times I've walked past YGF Malatang and never tried it until recently. My partner and I dropped by twice and wow, we've been missing out for years. They have a great selection of ingredients, which ranges from proteins to vegetables, tofu, and noodles. You pick what you want, toss it into a bowl, and take it to the register to be weighed (around $14 per lb). That's also where you choose your broth. I've only tried the Sweet & Sour Tomato Flavor and absolutely loved it. It's not spicy on its own, but you can add a little kick from the spice bar near the register. My partner went with the Classic Herbal Beef Bone Broth. He liked it a lot because it was savory, warm, and well-balanced. The ingredients in both of our dishes tasted fresh and the broths were delicious.

I've been here almost every 2 weeks since it opened. I'm obsessed. The best malatang in GA for sure! I always get the beef bone broth in mild which has the perfect amount of spice. The broth makes this place special. SO flavorful and rich. The tomato broth is also great! SOOO good and comforting. They have a great variety of ingredients too. Make sure to join the waitlist on their site. This place is always PACKED.

-- FOOD -- Great selection of items for malatang! They charge by weight so just add your items to the bowl and choose your broth! Their sauce bar is pretty small, but has all the classics: Sesame paste, garlic, green onion, crushed peanuts, soy sauce, chopped chilis, chili oil, cilantro, soy sauce, sesame oil, etc. -- SERVICE -- Good, quick service. Typically you pay after the meal and they'll come to you, but if they're really busy you may need to go to the counter to pay. They'll deliver your malatang to your table as well and refill your water. -- AMBIANCE -- Relatively small restaurant with close tables, but I do love that they have tables for single eaters. This is one of my go-to places for solo dining in the Atlanta area! Tables are always clean.

This is a great place to have a delicious HOT POT. At this place you are charged by the pound. You get to choose the meats, noodles and vegetables you want in your HOT POT. There are different ways to prepare your HOT POT, dry or soupy. You also need to choose the spiciness level. I usually get mild since they run spicier. I haven't tried the dry option. During busy times of the day, I would suggest going to the website and placing your name on the waitlist. The service is good and usually very good. This place is usually crowded and noisy. Make sure to wait awhile before you begin to eat since it comes out very HOT!

Tomato base was so good. I loved every topping I got. Service was good. Ambiance was alright 6.5/10. Only $14 a pound!

The line was SUPER long but the wait was worth it! My whole bowl was only $13! Such a steal for lunch. The tomato broth is THICCCCKK and the beef was rly good too! This with the Molly tea combo Nextdoor.... Unbeatable combination.

AUTHENTIC MALATANG in Metro Atlanta ITP Friendly service, but mostly self service. DIY Customize your ingredients and pay by weight. Vegan and vegetarian options and bold flavorful sauces. This is the cleanest restaurant I've seen in a long time. Firstly, ma 麻 = numbing + la 辣 =spicy. That means that the food should be both, not just spicy. They also have non-spicy options available. There appears to be some confusion lately as to the origins of malatang. Just FYI, it's from China, not from Korea. Over 7000 locations worldwide viral Chinese hot pot cafe for a reason. All my friends tell me this is their favorite restaurant in Georgia & ATL area so, I had to check it out myself. Sauce Recipe : Check below, where I post my famous sauce bar recipe for the perfectly balanced dipping sauce. If the sauce bar doesn't have quality ingredients, I don't trust it. Secret Pepper Oil : Check the sichuan peppercorn oil on their hotpot sauce bar. It makes the mala addictivly numbing + spicy. Pro Tip : If ordering the dry pot, order the sauce on the side. It's rich, delicious, but I recommend controlling your pour and using as a dipping sauce also. You can order additional side sauce to dip other items, like their crispy fried pork. 1 经典草本骨汤 Beef Bone Broth Malatang - I ordered very spicy, and even added more fragrant Sichuan peppercorn oil from the sauce bar to add more numbing flavor. Love the high quality ingredients here. 2 石磨醇香麻辣拌 Dry Pot - This is not oily malaxiangguo , which is typically stir-fried with sauce. The rich sesame based sauce is added later as a topping, that's why I recommend getting the sauce on the side. Great way to control your oil intake for a healthier meal. 3 小酥肉 Crispy Pork - Texture is important to me, that's why I like a crispy side item to go along with my noodles. Great for dipping in sauce or soup. 4 Dessert - I've tried both the desserts here and love both the 南瓜饼 pumpkin cakes and the 红糖糍粑 brown sugar cakes. Both are mochi qq & crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside. Dessert is a must-try. Conveniently located inside the Doraville Hmart plaza. Coty's Hotpot Sauce Bar Recipe : - 5 spoons green onion - 5 spoons cilantro - 3 spoons soy sauce - 1 spoon sesame oil - 2 spoons black vinegar - 1 spoon sugar - 1 spoon garlic - 1 spoon chili crisp ( strain out oil ) Mix well. Eat food while picking up some cilantro and onion also.

My hot pot! Ended up being about $17. Plenty of leftovers after!
Tanya H.

This is a no frills DIY hot pot located in the hmart shopping center. Prices are reasonable as its pay what you weigh! The items are set out in a buffet style bar and you pick your items out and place them in a giant bowl. (Pro tip: get the lighter items that bulk up your bowl for less cost! such as leafy greens and vermicelli noodles and avoid heavy dense items like potato's and carrots) At the cash register, they weigh your bowl and you pick your broth that they cook your items in! I picked bone broth and it was soooo flavorful! They even have a complimentary sauce bar to jazz up your broth if it's not enough for you. My bf said he enjoyed this hot pot more than most as the broth was extremely flavorful and required minimal dipping sauces!

This is like the froyo version of hotpot, and as someone who craves malatang often, it's perfect to be able to just get one serving of malatang with only the ingredients I want, no more and no less. And to only have to pay around $15 for it! We came on a Thursday evening around 7pm, and were able to be seated immediately. As someone who definitely likes spice, but isn't the best at handling it, the medium spicy level of the beef bone broth was perfect. They had all the ingredients I was craving too, like fish filet, mini sausages, lots of different types of mushrooms and noodles. If I lived closer, I could see myself coming here a lot!

We were a party of 5 and found both the food and the service to be inconsistent. The Food: Most dishes were mediocre or worse. The Three Cups Chicken (1/5) was the worst I've ever had. The Hong Kong Style Shrimp (1/5) was just bland, tasteless fried shrimp. The Lamb with Scallion (2/5) was far too salty. The only "average" dish was the Spicy Beef and Tendon (3/5), but one decent dish can't save a meal this poor. The Service & Billing: The service was quite slow during our visit. We waited a long time for the check and eventually ended up packing our own leftovers and heading to the front counter to pay so we could head out. I was also surprised to see an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill, especially since it was calculated on the total after tax ($23.07 tip on a $106.80 subtotal). While I understand automatic tips for groups, it felt a bit high due to poor services. There are a lot of great dining spots in the area, but based on this disappointing visit, I'm sure I would not return to this one.

Admittedly this location is in need of a DEEP clean and a major facelift. It's like stepping into a vintage time capsule. But hey, at least there's yummy food inside. Considering that, the prices do not really match the ambience at all in my opinion. However it seems they might have a big staff to support, especially those who make their dumplings and noodles from scratch. I'll pay a lil extra at a takeout spot for the food quality because it's certainly there. The staff has been pleasant enough, which is a nice plus. The pork buns are a great mouthful (I prefer steamed). Same for the soup dumplings. Unmatched in the texture of the dough. I've tried their hand-pulled noodles in a soup as well as a stir-fry and they certainly held their own. The noodle consistency is incredibly dreamy, so much so it has become a craving in my household. I don't like the beef they use as it can be a bit dry but the flavor is really nice. Nothing has been salty so far and the flavor profile is always robust. Numbing spice on deck. Again, the food is a hit. Where this place falls short is appearance and service. It just feels stuck in another century, and not in an endearing way. I ate here once, saw the condition of the restaurant and the health score, and settled on the blissful ignorance of takeout from thereon. The parking lot is rough and an eyesore. But honestly, it seems people overlook these things for the food. "People" being me....

Yes, we call it a "hole in the wall" -- it's literally in the basement of an optician and not the flashiest place you'll ever see. But don't judge a book by its cover. The quality of the food is far beyond what the exterior suggests. This is our one and only go-to spot when we need a true Chinese food fix in Atlanta. Simple, no-frills, and all about the food. It's not trendy or polished -- and that's part of the charm. You're here for authentic, bold flavors, not fancy decor. Service is pretty solid, even with the occasional language barrier or when the person hand-making dumplings steps away for a break. Even during peak busy times on previous visits, they've handled things well. One thing we learned the hard way: don't ask them to modify dishes. On a past visit, we asked for a change and they refused to preserve authenticity -- and honestly, I respect that 100% now. Lesson learned: trust the chef and learn to handle the spice! This place is all about explosive, authentic flavors. Our usual star is the Spicy Griddle Cooked Fish Fillet with potato chips, carrot chips, lotus root, and purple yam. It's a full-on flavor bomb -- numbing Sichuan peppercorn heat, bold spice, and perfect for sharing. Absolute showstopper. The Twice Cooked Pork Belly with Cabbage is my new favorite -- juicy, succulent pork paired with crunchy cabbage and an incredible sauce. Just phenomenal. The Black Pepper Beef was flavorful, though this time it leaned a bit heavy on green peppers and lighter on the beef. Still tasty, just slightly unbalanced. The Egg Fried Rice complemented everything beautifully -- and best of all, it wasn't oily. And the Lamb & Zucchini Dumplings? Worth every minute of the wait. Handmade and packed with flavor -- another absolute winner. We can't wait to go back. This is the kind of place you proudly take out-of-town guests -- they'll be blown away and talking about it the rest of their trip. Northern China Eatery never disappoints.

When we arrived, I realized the location used to be the old Hong Kong Supermarket -- only longtime locals would probably remember that. The layout inside was pretty interesting. There was a Te'amos milk tea shop in the middle, Lao Szechuan on the right, and the hot pot & BBQ restaurant on the left. The staff greeted us warmly and quickly helped us get seated. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was that they offered freshly made milk teas and fruit teas instead of bottled drinks. The drinks were decent and refreshing, especially for balancing out the richness of the meal. Each person gets their own mini hot pot, which I really liked because everyone could customize their own soup base and ingredients. We chose a variety of broths including mushroom, spicy mala, tomato, and herbal soup. Using the iPad ordering system, we basically ordered one of everything from both the hot pot and BBQ menus. The food came out surprisingly fast, and they even used robots to deliver dishes to the table, which was smooth and efficient. For hot pot, my personal favorites were the fatty beef slices, lamb, beef tripe, black tripe, tofu skin rolls, squid flowers, enoki mushrooms, corn, lotus root slices, kelp knots, fish balls, and beef tendon balls. Everything tasted great with the broth and my favorite sesame dipping sauce. On the BBQ side, the standout items for me were the cumin lamb, beef tongue, chicken cartilage, short ribs, and squid. We weren't exactly BBQ experts, so some meats weren't cooked perfectly, but the flavor was still really enjoyable -- and the best part was that you could keep ordering as much as you wanted. Honestly, for around $40 per person, it felt like a very good value. My parents both thought it was worth the price. We left full and satisfied, and the service was always attentive whenever we needed something. Overall, it was a really enjoyable Mother's Day meal, and I'd definitely come back again with friends next time.

For anyone with allergies: the sauce bar had a thoroughly written out allergy table and was clean, which was a plus. Drinks: Mai Tai was actually pretty good, and this is coming from someone that typically sticks with a beer. Sapporo is available on draft! Service/cleanliness: 3/5 the host sat us, a party of 3, down at a table meant for 6, which was interesting. We were quite literally one of 2 parties there, and only one other couple showed up while we dined. Our table was also the only table that had a grill with browned oil that came from who knows where. We had it changed to a clean one, but when we were handed the tablet to order, this was also covered in grease/oil. The bathrooms and sauce bar were clean, but at the table I was not satisfied. The server herself was very nice and explained the AYCE experience well. Ambiance: quiet music in the background, plenty of tables that could sit 4, 6, and 8.

If I ever return, I'll know to do better than expect the correct order and check everything before heading out. The crab rangoon was still flavorful but whatever dough they wrapped it with this time was so freaking tough that it cut the top of my mouth. My jaw should not get a workout from eating crab rangoon of all things. Another disappointment in the bag. But the beef entree we ordered was good, yet overshadowed by the other letdowns of the night's visit given that I can't really remember what exactly we ate. I'm going to remove another star for the unhygienic practices I witnessed that I was perhaps blissfully ignorant of my last time visiting. It's hard to look past a server comfortably coughing into their hand and proceeding to handle multiple patrons' plates and orders without as much of a squirt of sanitizer. I will say though they are quite dedicated to the customer. As I was sitting in the parking lot waiting 10-15min for my order to finish, someone clearly forgot their food and the same hacking server ran out to give it to them. Oh wait! Turns out that was actually our food being jostled around as he ran through the parking lot searching for the owner. Best dishes (the reasons to come) 1) Salt and pepper squid This one was excellent. Fried well, not greasy heavy, topped with plenty of fried garlic, plus cilantro and fresh cabbage to balance the richness. Super satisfying and well executed. 2) Dried chow fun with beef Also a standout. Great texture and temperature, well seasoned, and the ingredients felt evenly distributed instead of clumped or uneven. This dish was done right. 3) Eggplant in a small pot Served in a small pot that keeps it warm for a long time, which makes a big difference. There's a lot of sauce, but you can reduce how salty it tastes by how you scoop and serve it. Comforting and flavorful. If you ordered just these three, you'd already have a great meal. Other dishes (good, not amazing) Coconut shrimp The shrimp itself was cooked well, and I appreciated the broccoli on the side to balance the heaviness. The issue was the sauce: way too much. It got soggy fast and leaned too sweet and too salty. Next time, I'd ask for the sauce on the side so you can control it. We also tried a vegetable dish and a fish dish. Both were decent, but not particularly memorable. Tea They serve tea if you order it. The chrysanthemum tea was pretty good, and I liked that it was loose leaf. Atmosphere and service We went around 2:30 to 3:00 pm, so it wasn't crowded. The vibe felt very local and family friendly. It's an older building, but clean enough and inviting. Service was great, and it seemed even smoother if you have someone in your group who can speak Cantonese. Would I return? Yes. I'd come back, especially for the salt and pepper squid, dried chow fun with beef, and the eggplant pot.

We ordered steamed pork and chive dumplings to share, Thai fried rice with ham, and a beef noodle dish (I can't remember the name). Everything was very delicious and extremely affordable! I think we paid approx $40 including taxes and tip. This is a perfect place to grab a quick bite, then go next door for dessert. We'll definitely be back.
