Just purchased small shrimp egg foo young. It is bland no taste. Gravy very watery. So sad as this was my go to restaurant .

Hard to believe but not the best Chinese around here. It has pretty average food and nothing is worth going a long way to get so ignore it. Yen Ching has locations in Naperville and Plainfield. As to which one's better it's hard to say because they're both not that bad. This one is very small and can only have takeout. I put in an order for carryout. Making an order doesn't have to be hard because there's also an option for making it over the internet. They allow you to put it in an order the internet so they can read it correctly and it's a lot more accurate this way. Food is okay. There's not a whole lot great about it though. I had the Tofu Country Style. It's $10.25 at lunch with a big portion of rice and tofu. The green onions, green peppers, and white onions make up most vegetables. It tasted not that fresh. The food also wasn't hot enough and had to be warmed before eating it. Check it out at lunch for the best prices on many items for the lunch combo. It has no actual dining room inside because the place is small. This is the kind of restaurant that gets all its business from takeout. read more

Yen Ching Chinese Restaurant - Tofu Country Style - Chinese Near Me - Plainfield, Illinois

Food was undercooked and they threw dry, burnt noodles on top of everything. The service was absolutely terrible and the guy behind the counter made me go back to my car to get my phone to show "proof" after I told him the first and last name for my order. And then told me "goodbye" like he wanted me gone. I didn't check the food until I got home. I paid $50 + tip. I would've got a refund if I knew it wouldve been so horrible. read more

Quality food and very fast service. I frequent this restaurant alot as it's close to my house. They have been outstanding for many years

The orange chicken has a pink sauce that is not appetizing. Just stick to the rice. The pink glaze on the chicken tastes so sugary that it should be renamed Cotton Candy Chicken. read more

First time ordering, and was really hoping it would be good. First off they delivered to the house across the street so the food wasn't hot. Chicken Fried rice was terrible with no seasoning. The worst I've ever had. General T chicken was all breading and drenched in sour sauce. Crab Rangoons had a tiny bit of filling. read more

I definitely give this place a 4.5! I ordered shrimp Fried rice, which was great! I loved that they weren't stingy w/ the shrimp. The egg drop soup I ordered tasted great! beef and broccoli was a little salty for my taste but me and my family still enjoyed every bite will be back soon read more

I really like Yen Ching and bedore tonight my rating would have been higher. the food is good and the price seems right. we have become pretty frequent carryout buyers here. Tonight when I got home I realized my order was not what i had ordered. I call to let them know and they blamed me for the mistake and were not offering to correct the situation. The lady who took my order said she always reads back the order. I was 100% certain what I asked for - I order the same dish everytime. I asked to speak with someone else and he said he could see on my account that I always order what I requested and not what I received but that he was sure that she reads all orders back. He finally said if I brought back what I ordered he would replace the dish. so I had to got twice to get what I ordered. it would have been no problem if they hadn't blamed me and been so reluctant to make things right. They didn't want to pay for the wrong order but may have lost me as a customer because of how they handled the situation. read more

After the Yen Ching by me went no lunch special I'm happy that this location still does, worth the extra 15 minute drive :)

Not that bad of a place. I was craving some Chinese but itS been a challenge for my and I to find anything good out this way. We are from the south side (suburbs) of Chicago and I compare everything to the food out there because, quite frankly, it's the best. I ordered general tao's chicken, crab Rangoon, egg rolls, and shrimp fried rice with extra sprouts and onions. Not too bad. Wish they offered the lunch special all the time like most places who offer them after lunch hours for about a $1.50 more. Had to buy too much food for just myself. read more

Great little Chinese takeout place. Pricing is fair, proportions are great. I prefer no celery in my dishes and they gladly accommodate my request. Call in your order and 20 minutes later its ready. A great place in North Plainfield read more

If I could give 0 I would. We were treated horribly because their restaurant manager is ignorant and didn't want to believe their restaurant uses uber. Like?? It's your restaurant and at the end she was proven wrong because uber eats told them themselves. Do they treat every customer with this hostility? Take the L. DO NOT COME HERE. Unless you want to be given attitude. I'm very shocked. read more

The Chow Mein was gooey and gloppy, and no noodles - it was a very different dish than I expected. When you google "chicken chow mein", nothing like this comes up. Fried rice tasted like old grease. Egg rolls have peanut butter and I swear I tasted cinnamon. I won't be going back. read more

I really like the food here but after placing an order for extra onions on my noodles I was uncharged for it. For onions! I fear they've lost a good customer. I didn't ask for extra meat, just onions! Too bad:( read more

Had the generals tsos chicken, was quite impressed. Good quality chicken and good sauce, good portion, will definitely be back.

We tried Yen Ching last night based solely on other Yelp reviews. They were consistently highly rated here, so we decided to check it out. We arrived around 6:30pm, and we were the only people there. We were greeted immediately by a friendly, helpful hostess. Things were nice and clean. They do have tables so you can eat there, but no table service (waiters). We opted for carryout. We ordered 3 meals -- Mongolian Beef, General Tso's Chicken and Chicken with Garlic Sauce. All 3 meals came with steamed rice. We ordered the "small" sizes (all meals come in either large or small sizes.) We received our meals promptly (less than 10 minutes), and they were nicely packaged. It took about 15 minutes to drive home and another 5 to unpack the food and set up the table. The food was still quite warm when we were ready to eat. The food was outstanding. As others have commented, it seemed exceptionally fresh, and the vegetables were nice and crisp. Not at all overcooked or soggy like you can get in some places. The sauces were tasty as well, and there was plenty of sauce in all of the dishes. The small portion sizes are way more than adequate for one person. I ate about a third of mine, and the guys each ate about half. Plenty left over for tomorrow! I highly recommend Yen Ching for Chinese food! I hope their unobtrusive location doesn't hold them back, because I love to see places this good succeed. Request chopsticks if you want them. They did not come with the meal (unless they just forgot to include them.) read more

This is the second location of Yen Ching Chinese restaurants. The location is bad because it's tucked away in a little strip mall. If you're driving down 59 and blink, you'll miss it. But that doesn't take away from the quality of food. I am seriously addicted to the Shrimp Toasts. Probably not the best thing on the menu but their ooey, gooey, greasiness is hard to pass up. The rest of the menu is typical of suburban Chinese restaurants. You can get Szechwan, Hunan, Mongolian, Kung Pao and Moo Shu entrees. The staff is always super friendly too. This is just a carry out location though. So don't expect a fancy night out at a sit down restaurant. They have lunch specials, are open 7 days a week and deliver to limited areas. read more

Yen Ching Chinese Restaurant - Gen Tso chicken, crab Rangoon and hot and sour soup. AMAZINGGG! - Chinese Near Me - Plainfield, Illinois

Awesome, Awesome , Awesome! Yen Ching is about 12 minutes drive from my house. Each time I order something I immediately head there and each time it is ready when I get there! That is fast! Last weekend we ordered food for delivery and to our amazement it was delivered in under 25 minutes! But the best part is the food. It is always fresh with the veggies done just right. Try the Chicken Kow or Orange Chicken. Both are awesome. Try this place and you will not be disappointed. The cooks travel out from China Town each day! read more

I live in the city, but, had to come to the burbs for something and decided to order some Chinese! This place definitely top notch, next to china town downtown, of course! I had the broccoli and shrimp which was steaming hot, egg rolls and we shared egg drop soup along with chicken fried rice. By far, the best rice we've had in a long time and it was a huge portion for being a small. Easily we could serve 2 more people! I was super impressed with 1) how fast the delivery was- only 40 min! 2) how hot the food was when it arrived and 3) how delicious everything was! Next time we need to come out to the burbs, definitely will be ordering from here again! read more

"Here we go sodeo sodeo sodeo" "Here we go sodeo all night long" It's a Raffi song, and when I was a little girl I would sing along, "here we go SODIUM." I thought my mom was full of it when she said it was "sodeo," since that's not a thing. Sodium, however, is a thing, and for the first time in 20+ years this song popped into my head as I chowed down on some Szechuan beef from Yen Ching. It wasn't too salty though, I was impressed by the spiciness. It didn't blow my brains out, but generally that little red pepper/spice indicator on a Chinese menu is full of lies. The Szechuan beef was a huge portion of beef and veggies, but it was seriously lacking in the mini corn cob, pea pod, and water chestnut department. If I'm going to eat Chinese, this trifecta of veggies MUST be present. This disclaimer is a little late, but Chinese food is not my favorite cuisine; in fact, it's probably my least favorite. I favor Thai and Japanese over Chinese. But when I get a craving for "Chinese," it's really a combination of egg rolls, crab rangoons, and fried rice dancing in my head - the trifecta of Chinese side dishes. I'm merely obligated to order more than this since I don't live alone. The orange chicken was the BEST orange chicken I've ever had! The pieces of chicken were large, white meat chunks, which were perfectly breaded, crisp and served with a sweet, evenly-coated orange glaze. This was the best dish of our order But, whomp whomp! The eggrolls sucked. They were soggy and had a strong peanut butter flavor. It sucks that my eggroll, half-eaten, sucked. The crab rangoon were good, a little chinsy on the filling, but it will be difficult for me to admit that anything stuffed with cream cheese and deep fried was subpar. The fried rice was not greasy at all. It did lack a little flavor, but I couldn't believe the large chunks of white meat chicken mixed in. It's a fresh product and prepared well, but if you like lots of salt and pepper, you're going to want to break out your own set of shakers and possibly a bottle of sriracha to spice things up. I was mildly annoyed when I got home, opened the bags, and noticed the soup had spilled. Although the soup is in a plastic container, and again wrapped in a plastic bag, the container had cracked under the weight (the soup was at the bottom of my bag), and there was a pool of soup inside the plastic bag. It wasn't a big deal, nothing got ruined, but it was a moment worthy of an eyeroll. One of the reasons I do takeout is because I'm too lazy to do dishes. The soup spill required me to dirty a bowl so, eyeroll, now I've got to wash one. Aside from the few hiccups (spilled soup and crappy eggrolls), I'm giving Yen Ching 4 stars. The customer service here was friendly, polite, and the girl at the counter was all about getting people checked out quickly. There are 3 Chinese restaurants in a 3-mile stretch of Route 59 (between 119th and 135th), and this is #1. read more

My husband and I recently moved to Plainfield and are still in search of a great go-to Chinese delivery spot, but the food was pretty good here. I normally get the chicken with broccoli with brown sauce and I forgot to tell them I wanted brown, so I got the white sauce, but it was still good. My husband got the Mongolian Beef with noodles instead of rice. It seemed a bit salty or something, but still pretty good. I think I'll continue my search, but will most likely order from here again too! read more

First time trying this place because my dad just moved and wow, it was so good! And let me tell you I don't like Chinese that much but it was amazing. Very good sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, and crab Rangoon! read more

Never knew it was a Chinese take-out place (thought it was some investment firm) as it was located in a mostly empty stripmall. Inside is more set-up for carryout with just a few tables. Got a large chicken fried rice and a small chicken curry for about $15 altogether. I hardly notice any difference in the fried rice dish among many of the Chinese take-out places, here, there was a lot of big white chicken pieces in the rice. The chicken curry, for a small portion, was quite large, as I got about 4 meals out of it. The dish was pieces of chicken with thin-long lengthed pieces of carrots and onions in a green curry. Never had curry before so I was expecting an intense spiciness, especially with the pepper icon next to it in the menu. The spiceness was more mild as I wasn't exactly hitting the water right away, had more of a cinnamon-type intensity, which I found surprising. read more

Yen Ching Chinese Restaurant - It's cute but only a few tables - Chinese Near Me - Plainfield, Illinois

We got Sweet and Sour chicken, orange chicken and egg rolls for take out. My sweet & sour chicken was very breaded chicken and had no taste. The red sauce was runny, with a pineapple & two tomato slices thrown in. No onions or peppers, and had zero taste. My daughter liked the orange chicken, though I didn't really. At least the chicken wasn't breaded, but had an odd texture - to me. The egg rolls were thickly breaded, hard and mostly tasteless. Overall not a fan of what we had. Gonna try elsewhere. read more

I tried Yen Ching recently based on the reviews. 3.5 stars is not horrible and everyone is particular about their food. So I took the few so-so reviews with a grain of salt. I was disappointed I did. Ordered beef pepper steak with no tomato - it wasn't bad. Not like I'm used to but had a decent flavor, lots of beef and a nice amount of crisp bell peppers and onions. Now to the General Tsao's chicken. Way too sweet - seemed like sweet and sour chicken. Definitely not enough spice and was very jelly like in consistency. The chicken was over cooked - almost like it had been fully fried then fried again at the time of my order. The rice was decent but did not have the consistency or flavor of well cooked jasmine rice. I wanted to try someplace new and now that I have satisfied my curiosity, I won't be back. read more

Yen Ching's is by far the best Chinese restaurant in DeKalb, even better than anything that surrounding cities have. Service is quick, accurate, friendly, and food is astounding. I am not from the area but constantly bring friends, family, or even by myself. The ladies are incredibly sweet and like to make you laugh. Overall a wonderful restaurant and I highly recommend you stop and dine in. read more

Still really good. Love the crab Rangoon too! My only complaint is that the General Tso's chicken has the consistency of sweet and sour, if that makes sense. Usually GT chicken is a little crispier. Delivery is always super fast too. Try them out! read more

The crab rangoon was fried too long. The orange chicken lacked moistness. Shrimp egg foo young needed flavor. The teriyaki beef was too salty. The shrimp and pork fried rice was good with a hint of spice. The veg lo mein and hot sour soup was also tasty. Overall okay but I prefer Sesame over Boughton road. read more

Went for take-out ... I liked what we got, Shrimp w/Lobster sauce, Steamed Pot stickers, !!SHRIMP TOAST!! I love Shrimp Toast & not too many places make it (which I really don't understand) Back on the East Coast if you're a Chinese take out & you don't serve this you won't be in business for long. Yen Ching has gooood "ST" not the best I've had here in Illinois but it is gooood & tasty really goes great dipped in the Lobster sauce. The steamed pot stickers EXCELLENT !!! done to perfection!! Now let's talk about the S-W-LS main dish we got the large order & it was overloaded with shrimp all of a good size too. These were what I call "2-bite-ers" you could push it all in your mouth at once (which i did at first) but don't cut it in half & enjoy the sauce! loaded with chicken strips also and the dark lobster sauce has a lite touch of green onion & garlic/ginger too it, Yumm ! My next order & my second favorite test for a good Chinese kitchen... Egg Rolls & Combo Egg Foo Young with a side order of Shrimp toast To call it in one sentence .. Great tasting, Plenty of it and order when you're hungry !! read more
