We ordered General Tso's chicken and orange chicken and they were HORRIBLE! I'm not a picky eater, but man, this was ridiculous. It's almost like they shredded a bunch of chicken, mixed it up in breading, made them into balls, fried them, and poured sauce on them. I took a few apart and they were almost entirely bread. Many had just one little shred of chicken. The outside was so thick/tough that one could hardly cut into it, they were chewy, and they were hard to swallow at times. It's almost like they were fried more than once. DO NOT order orange OR General Tso's chicken. Really really bad. I assume because this is a popular dish, they felt they could cut corners, but they turned into bread balls with sauce on them... We've ordered from here before, but something has changed for the worse. We also ordered other dishes such as the Szechuan chicken and a beef dish, which were decent. As well as a few of their sides and soup which were good. The egg rolls were decent and not soggy, the rangoons were average, and the potstickers were alright. Let's just say, if we only ordered the orange/General Tso's chicken, this would be a 1-star review... read more

Permanently closed, being replaced by an Indian/Pakistani Restaurant. This restaurant has been in Plainfield the last 20+ years, but it really went downhill after the original owners sold the restaurant. Thank you read more

I ordered a lunch special shrimp egg foo young and it was disappointingl. The fried rice was good but the egg foo young was burnt. The gravy was ok and would not order this dish ever. read more

It was good. I like when I can get a combo meal for dinner. Only bummer is they don't have drinks.

New ownership and a new kitchen staff with new recipes. Unfortunately this isn't a good thing. The dishes that we usually order (sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice, and egg rolls) were all worse than before. Rating: below average We also decided to see how the chicken pad thai was; answer: terrible...truly awful. read more

This place is great for Chinese takeout!! Their beef lo mein is DELICIOUS. We have also order their orange chicken and their gyoza which are also very tasty. They have great price points and really quick service. read more

Ordered sesame chicken online. When we picked up the order and brought it home, we discovered sweet and sour chicken. Thinking they made a mistake, we called to get the correct order. They told us that they make their sesame chicken this way, and that they provided sesame sauce for us to mix it with. I have never seen sesame chicken made this way in my entire life- because it was obviously sweet and sour chicken. They refused to admit they made a mistake, and refused to allow us to return it for a different dish. Lazy, unaccommodating, terrible service. read more

I stopped by and ordered a shrimp lo main. It came with vegetables and it was delicious! I also ordered vegetable rolls and it was excelente too! I like that the food wasn't oily, salty, or unhealthy looking. read more

I've heard good things about the food, however they will never get another chance to sell me on their food. We placed an order for deliver which was 1 hour after and hour and fifteen minutes we called to check status and were told it would be another 45 minutes. Two hours to get Chinese food delivered 4 blocks? No call to let customer know they have called drastically behind? Cancelled the order and won't ever order from them again. read more

Love this place. Order is always right and the food is great. Calling in the order the employees are always friendly. My go to Chinese food place. read more

Full disclosure: I have not eaten their food. Just an FYI, I ordered online, even commented about how great their website is. I received the order confirmation and a follow up email confirmation. When food didn't arrive, I called to check on it. The person answering the phone said, "Oh, sometimes you have to call. Let me check for your order. Oh yeah, it's here. I'll start on it." Since it had already been an hour, I cancelled the order. I mentioned to the employee that I shouldn't have to call when I order online, especially if I get the email confirmation with a delivery time. Then, when he looked for the order, he found it immediately, so it's not like it would be hard to check for online orders. It's unlikely that I'll give them another shot since we have another nearby place we like. read more

Ordered the orange chicken,And a honey chicken. Both were 80% breading if not more, barely any chicken every once in a while you could find a shred of chicken, and extremely tough, like it had sat out and to warm it up they fried it for a fifth time. Very disappointed do not recommend, maybe some of their other food is good but what we got was terrible. read more

The egg rolls are massive and stuffed like sausages! The crab rangoon and pineapple chicken were outstanding as well. Crab rangoon is my favorite part of Chinese, and I was surprised that Taste of China does it best! Taste of China is in a small strip mall that is in the same corner of the intersection as Aldi. Don't mistake them for Great Wall across the street by Jewel. The crab rangoon was stuffed with creamy filling and fried perfectly. I've had some experiences lately that were skimpy on the filling. Not at Taste of China. The pineapple chicken was what I've been looking for in Chinese food: fresh, white meat chicken that isn't doused in a murky sauce. The chunks of pineapple and sauces were light and slightly sweet. They packed the chicken separate from the pineapple sauces which kept the chicken hot and crispy. The fried rice and Kung Pao chicken were just okay. The rice was a little too greasy for my liking and tasted slightly burnt. The lady who runs the front counter is very serious and shouts orders at the cooks. But don't mistake that for rudeness, she just means business and was perfectly nice to me. She even offered me my smoothie while I waited for the food. The man packing the food and taking phone orders took extra care that it was the right order. 2 appetizers, fried rice, 2 entrees, and 2 smoothies - that's a lot of food for only $35! Taste of China is definitely going to be my spot for Chinese from now on. Sorry Great Wall! read more

We ordered our food and when I got home, the pork Lo mein that I ordered did not look right. When I called, the lady picked up the phone and was still yelling at someone in the background, so I decided to bring my food back. When I got there she advised me that the order was "Cantonese style" which didn't matter to me, because it wasn't like I was used to, and didn't look like the picture. The woman tends to bark a lot of orders to workers there, but that doesn't seem to be getting results for her, so I'm suggesting she try a new leadership style. Other than that, the other items we ordered were good, especially the fat ol egg rolls. So my review and tip will include this: if you want it fried, you have to ask for "yellow" noodles... Otherwise you get something else that what is pictured! read more

Ordered for delivery.. maybe the place is better if you eat there but got the general sto and it was soggy. My husband got the sesame chicken and got plain chicken with the sause on the side? Asked for pork fried rice and got beef? The only good thing that we had was the crab rangoon... ya, prolly wont order from here again. read more

Ordered crab Rangoon chicken fried rice and side of beef. I was very not impressed with it being ready within 5 minutes of cooking and I was right. Everything tasted microwaved. Especially the crab Rangoon, the breading was so stale and dry, who knows how long they have been sitting out for. Never again. read more

Take advantage of their lunchtime specials, all the chicken entrees were $6.25 and comes with chicken fried rice, an eggroll, and a drink. Got a chicken kow and a pork fried rice. The guy there, who I'm guessing was the owner, was really nice. I did notice a lady that was yelling at the employees in the kitchen. The chicken kow was pretty good, big pieces of white meat, cooked in some sort of a white sauce with bokchoy, mushrooms, carrots, and other vegetables. The fried rice wasn't bad, but like with most places, tasted more grease than anything else. read more

I have never had any problems with the food at Taste of China! We LOVE the general tso's chicken, and the orange chicken. Also, we recommend the Fried Rice! I would definitely not avoid this place, it is GREAT! We get it delivered to our house all the time! Its great to have a chinese feast show up at your door! read more

Had the Chicken Delight large order with two egg rolls on the side order for dinner. $13 for two people. The sauce was really sweet and had a great tangy flavor that I thought was great. The person I shared with wasn't a fan but she is picky. Egg rolls are huge and seem handmade with fresh ingredients. I will be back to try the lunch specials and will no longer be going to China China. Friendly staff to boot and food was prepared in 10 minutes from the moment we walked up. read more

We have ordered from this place for several years. It's been our favorite Chinese place. Today that has changed. The food was awful! Pineapple shrimp was our favorite. Shrimp not cooked fully and the pineapple shrimp sauce tasted like ketchup watered down with pineapples in it. Beef fried rice had no flavor. Awful! Called to talk to a manager and the person who answered the phone asked what I wanted in broken English. I told him my concerns and he really didn't seem to care. They just lost me as a customer. read more

Let me tell you why I voted them 5 stars...it's not for the fried rice, any of the meat dishes, etc etc. No. This place is unique because they have THE BEST EGGROLLS YOU WILL EVER EAT. This is not hyperbole! They are big and stuffed and come with this specific sweet sauce to dip them in! The egg rolls themselves are phenomenal, the sauce takes them out of this world. Forget the food, try the egg rolls and change your life!!!! Change everything you thought an egg roll is and could ever be... read more

Ok all these good reviews are either fake or these people never tried real fast food type of chinese food. If this type of food was served in NY, would be out of business in a week. Ordered delivery and arrived an hour and half later. They could've mentioned how long it would take. We ordered beef lo mein, shrimp with lobster sauce, house special fried rice, egg drop soup, and general tsao's chicken which came to $54. They also gave one white rice(no soda nor eggroll or soup fortune cookies given from this big order). Also no utensils or napkins, just a whole load of glutinous soy sauce. Ok now for the food: BeefLoMein- just bland and really really oily, i even tried with soy sauce No One ate this. Shrimp w/lobster sauce- added soooo much soy sauce the actual food was black(this food is supposed to be white) just imagine chugging down soy sauce and a rock of salt with shrimp. House Fried Rice- not fully cooked rice just fried with shrimp and meats with soy sauce and salt and who knows(again blackish food coloring) Eggdrop Soup- only decent thing people ate. Lastly General Tsao's Chicken- how the hell can you go wrong with fried pieces of chicken covered with sauce?!!! It has to be somewhat crispy or have a sweetish taste. This was just mushy on outside and really overcooked dry hard chicken. All the food went straight to the garbage except for the soup. Please don't waste your money if you know your chinese food. I would recommend other places but i'm not from illinois. This is just by far the most horribad food. When i'm hungry i would eat almost anything but this junk is a nono. None of my friends ate this and we all just went out to eat. I hope this business steps up and treats customers right. read more

love this place it is clear it is take out only - not a problem for us sarvice is always nice portions are always huge and great taste we always get the mongolian chicken to die for and we never had food poisoning egg rolls are a little small but overall great price for good food read more

I eat here all the time. There are a few Taste of Chinas in the area. I've been to all at least several times. I swear there is something about the one in Plainfield. Their meat is so tender! It's so good! I drive out special from where I live to the Plainfield one because I want them to make it. Also large portions for great prices. :) Very happy customer. read more

Definitely better than the other Chinese restaurant in the area. Service was prompt. Ambiance is quiet in the waiting area. Food was delicious, fresh and tidy. Ordered the Singapore noodles and Mongolian Beef, tasted amazing, no complaints. Oh and the egg rolls, they are the best! You get it free for purchases over 15. read more

This place is awsome. I work in the area so I eat at all the places around and Taste of China is definatly the best Chinese around. The General's Chicken is probably the best I've ever had. The egg-rolls are fresh and hand made, not the frozen ones other places serve. The drinks are good as well and extremely affordable! Red bean is my favorite with tapioca of course. read more

I happened to drive by and was craving Chinese food so I stopped by for some take-out. The place is small so there's only one table and I think that's more for people waiting for their food than actually eating there. I ordered one of the standard chicken dishes and a boba drink. It was alright but I've had much better. The boba was really not cooked thoroughly as it was really hard in the middle. Sadly, it didn't satisfy my craving so I think there are other places I'd rather go to next time a craving arises. read more

Great food piping hot when it's delivered! Sometimes they even thro in extra egg rolls. A great place to eat in also! Quiet and prompt service, with food that's always steaming hot! Great for the kids to enjoy also! read more

What happened to this restaurant? It's been here forever - I always came here. They are putting out some weird food- sweet and sour chicken - not enough sauce- only pineapple - no green pepper or tomato- the battered chicken was nasty like it had been in the fridge and microwaved - soft - not crispy- Pot stickers - the thickest- grayest looking dumpling and barely crispy on the bottom - all of it looked bad - the textures were off and the taste was just as bad! New owners? New cooks? Ugh.... so disappointed - guess it's House of Emperor in Naperville - I'd rather drive to get something decent to eat. Horrible. read more

Ordered the egg foo young and sweet and sour chicken. The egg foo young was disgusting. It was wayyyyy too salty and the gravy was so dark. I think they used too much soy sauce, it was awful. I found myself eating more rice to counter the salty sauce. The sweet and sour chicken taste like processed chicken chunks. Had one egg roll w/their delicious home made sweet and sour sauce which was the best part of the meal. I'm giving them 2 stars because Ive had better food from them in the past and perhaps they had an off night. However, it's enough from keeping me from coming back. I'm done with this restaurant. read more

So we decided to try this place out last night. We ordered 3 main dishes and some crab rangoons. The food was very tasty but I almost had a heart attack when they gave me the total of over $73 dollars. That same order at our normal place is at least $25 less. Good food, their roast pork lo mein was one of the best I ever had but for that price, I will have to pass. read more

Best chinese food in the area. We have eaten here at least two dozen times and always happy. Carry out only. Food portions are huge, smoothies delicious and egg rolls are plump and fresh. Lunchtime deals are terrific! read more

This was our first visit to Taste of China. We had kung poa chicken, broccoli beef and pork egg foo young. All 3 dishes were very good. The fried rice had a lot of flavor which I have found to be an issue at other places. We ordered at the restaurant and only waited about 10 minutes for our food and everyone was very nice. read more

This place is awesome!!!! The owners are super nice and friendly and they really know how to make good Chinese food!! The wait time is usually always short and the prices are fair. They also give you a free order of egg rolls when your order is more than $15 bucks and I swear they have the best egg rolls!!! They also make really good smoothies and drinks!! I always get their Thai tea or some kind of fruit smoothie. I totally recommend this place!!! 5 stars!! read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. All dishes over salted. Egg foo young and fried rice were made with burnt soy sauce. They ruined the chicken almond din with soggy vegetables and soggy almonds. Even the chow mien noodles were limp. All these dishes were over salted to mask the the stale ingredients. THESE DISHES WERE MADE WITH THE FOOD YOU THROW OUT. read more

This place is a horrendous attempt at Chinese food. I got pork lo mein and it lacked any seasoning or flavor. Not even any salt. Potstickers were dry and bland as well. Not sure what meat was used. The nondescript egg rolls were bland except for a vague peanut butter flavor? Not from the area, but this is absolutely the worst Chinese food I've ever had the misfortune to experience. read more

There was a time when this was a really good Chinese restaurant and reasonable for the price. Nowadays, they aren't worth a visit. I paid $16 for beef pad Thai, when I got home and opened the box, there was barely any meat at all. I'm serious, there were like 4 little strips of beef. Definitely a rip off now, I wouldn't bother going here. read more

My 8-year-old son and I both came down with an awful case of food poisoning from the egg rolls here. When I called them the next day (after I was strong enough to sit up again) they brushed me off and said "nobody else called to complain." I've never ordered another thing from this place (nor can I eat Chinese food anymore). Avoid this place. read more
