Yellow is a vegetarian hatted restaurant in Potts Point that has established a good name for itself for its exquisite menu and fine service. Whilst the setting is bordering between fine dining and casual, the service is A class. The waiter was absolutely impeccable in every regards, and the other staff bringing food out promptly and explaining each dish in detail. They are currently showcasing a vegan/plant-based menu using plenty of fresh and colourful ingredients. It is $85 pp for the 5 course tasting menu and $105 pp for the 7 course. We opted for the 7 course and I think we would have been still hungry if we had chosen 5. We were lucky to have 30% off from the fork website booking. The restaurant is bright yellow painting brick building which has heritage features intact, and plenty of seats inside and out. We were seated outside which was a shame (I had asked but none were available inside). It was quite challenging for the 4 of us to complete a 2 hour tasting menu on wooden picnic seats with no backs and the other half of us with backs to the window sills. Whilst we had nice food, it was extraordinarily uncomfortable for a dining experience. We had to get up numerous times which detracted from the overall feeling. We'd recommend some sort of cushions or comfy chairs for the outdoor area. We have listed the menu below and some of our thoughts on the dishes. The food is presented beautifully with great technical ability shown by the chefs in the intricate design and cooking methods. In regards to our personal palate, as always, taste is the perspective of the diner. The first plate of three mini snacks included Blini and Sea Lettuce Leek tart Australian Butter Pumpkin (All nice little tasters, daintily presented together on one plate) Watermelon radish + Green Apple + Wild Fennel (a refreshing start and beautifully presented, but we didn't love this one) Tomato + Smoked Almond + Pepperberry (the tomato slices served on the almond dip was creamy and tasty dish) Carrot + Macadamia + Oat (this was quite lovely, the carrot sticks sitting in the macadamia emulsion topped with granola, but we thought it would be better as a hot dish) Borlotti beans + Pine Mushroom (a saucy dish of a soft bean and mushroom mix, enough sauce to dip the bread in to) Rye Brioche Roll + Butter (we were expecting more from the bread as it looks Incredible, but not as fluffy as you'd expect. Maybe the absence of real butter) Sweet Corn + Chilli + Tomatillo (this was a few uses of corn in a purée, charred corn and a fried crunchy top, probably our favourite of the savoury) Broccolini with sesame (served as a side) For dessert, we quite enjoyed the Vanilla Ice Cream (made with soy milk) + served with Fresh Pistachio + plump and colourful figs For drinks, you can order matching wine for $100 pp or a non alcoholic match $75 pp. However the drink list is extensive, so you may prefer to order your choice of wine, beer, spirits, cocktails or mocktails. We had the alcoholic "peach cobbler" with Makers Mark Whiskey, Licor 43, Peach and Lemon. We also had a non-alcoholic drink using seedlip garden, thyme, citrus and Aquafina. Lovely drinks!

Omg.....this has to be the best meal I ever had. I came in search of somewhere vegan for dinner and landed on Yellow. I wanted to do something nicer (it had reservations and looked fancier online) and boy did this place blow my mind. This is hands down the best vegan meal I have ever had, and definitely is so memorable, even against the best non-vegan meals I've had. And ironically, I showed up the day they got their Second Hat (Australia's Michelin star) and first veg restaurant to do so. what an amazing place, from top to bottom. I won't waste words describing each item in the vegan tasting menu I did,...just look at the pictures....but seriously every last item was Ah-MAZING. They also have a vegetarian tasting menu, and regular a la carte, and it wasn't overly stuff atmosphere...I came dressed decent, but still had jeans on and felt like I was in the right place. I will be back again next time I'm in SYD...for sure.

Vegetarian Wednesday at Yellow ! YES ! The menu is designed to share with a choice of 5-6 entrees (8-12$), small (from 18-25$) and large plates (from 25-30$). They recommend to take 2 to 3 dishes per person...we went with 2 and that was filling enough for us. There is also a banquet style for 60$ that is great value if you are feeling a bit more hungry ! Overall I was very positively surprised by both the food and service/atmosphere. The restaurant is quite cosy and chic but not too fancy. It is dark with lights on each table which I like. The tables have a good space in between so it is intimate. The service was great, present but not too pushy and very friendly. The menu was perfectly explained. Only minus is the mains took a while to be served... Regarding the food we had: - radish with fennel butter : well done but nothing's too exciting - pea mousse with daikon: amazing ! Highly recommend this was a highlight for me. Mousse was creamy and sweet with crunch from buttermilk crumbs and freshness of daikon...perfect mix of texture - smoked eggplant with Parmesan and hazelnut : unusual way to cook it and it was delicious. But the portion size is really small fro 28$... - parnip pappardelle with yolk and pine mushroom: very inventive and well done, great taste association, interesting but not a huge fan of the taste overall Go there to be surprised by vegetarian options ! You will have a good time !

I would have to rate this as one of my favourite meals while visiting Sydney. Vegetarian fare is not for everyone and let me start by saying I am not a vegetarian. Over the years, I have appreciated vegetarian cuisine because it is very hard to make good vegetarian cuisine. So I did the 5 course lunch tasting menu. My favorite dishes were: the avocado dish and the zucchini with quinoa. The best thing I thought was the raw carrot "amuse"/starter. It created a good starting impression for the entire meal. There are different ways vegetarian tasting menus make sure you feel satisfied afterwards. At Yellow, the heavy dish was the rice dish. They give you a lot which was a bit too much for me given the tasting nature of the meal and the fact that there was also a bread service. Food quality was spot on. Plating was good, not too fancy but professional yet homey and well-thought of. Service was ok. They were good but not consistent depending on the person. For example when I sat down the person just automatically got me tap water which was fine. While another server asked the person who just sat next to me if they have a preference for sparkling or tap. I prefer sparkling. Another example is certain servers who bring a course explain dishes in more detail than others. Definitely a place I'd come back to in Sydney.

Scrambled eggs with thick bacon and grilled liquorice bread with butter

I've been meaning to go to yellow for at least 2 years and I'm super glad I finally made it earlier today. I had to order their poached eggs consommé. I also ordered the liquorice bread to share and my boyfriend ordered the scrambled egg, thick bacon, and tomatoes. The poached eggs didn't disappoint. The consommé was full of flavour and light at the same time. I love the different texture in the dish including the fregola looking thing. It was amazing! The poached eggs were quite rich so I got full from that. The waitress suggested I ordered a slice of bread as it may not be filling enough. I ordered it but found out I actually didn't need it. The grilled liquorice bread was amazing. Rather like banana bread but the outside was firmer. Soooo good! I'd come back for this! I tried the scrambled eggs and it was so full of flavour. Normally I like my bacon thin and crunchy but this one was smokey and full of flavour. I can't wait to go back.

Licorice Bread! Poached egg w charred onion consommé, mushiness and peas. Now this is a breakfast menu.

Why, just because you work or own a nice fancy place do you have to be so damn rude about it?? It's so rare to have food in a nice environment AND have good service, and yellow is no exception. The place is so nice, the big couches are comfortable, the music is good... but then you walk in and the owner is asking you rudely to "close the door quick", the food takes ages to arrive, and the waiter brings you the bill without you having asked for it, as a sign to please get out of here. If at least the food was irreproachable I would half forgive them, but it is not: the food is actually quite forgettable. We had two coffees, the lamb sandwich and scrambled eggs on toast. The sandwich was tasty although had too much sauce. The eggs on the other hand came with a pretty disgusting mayo that was completely unnecessary. We left with an unsatisfied feeling and the impression that we had been kicked out. Never again! Boo you Sydney "hipsters" with your beards and caps! No one should think they're too cool to be polite!

And it had absolutely no relationship to the food. It was the stools. The red stools that people sit on. And I got word that they were supremely uncomfortable. I didn't follow up on the critique (made by a friend) and in fact forgot about the restaurant altogether. It wasn't until my partner and I happened to be walking around Darlinghurst around dinner time at a later date that I remembered about the comment (which would surely put a black mark on any restaurant's name). And yet, it was delightful. We were the first ones there - so early in fact that we lingered outside like miscreants while the staff were eating their dinner - and avoided the stools altogether, and instead sat at the two person table further toward the kitchen. We ordered the Beijing Dumplings (lamb and vegetarian), the steamed vegetarian buns, hainan chicken rice and the nyonya chicken and potato curry with two pots of brown rice. Mostly everything was outstanding. The only thing that didn't surpass our expectations wildly was the Hainan chicken rice. The rest was so incredibly good that we've gone back twice since (take-away). The staff were also incredibly accommodating and take note that they have a vegetarian menu as well as a Coeliac one. As for those infamous stools, on our last visit there to pick up our take-away we saw Hugo Weaving sitting on one of them at the far end of the communal table eating his dinner. If it's good enough for Hugo Weaving ..

The fresh prawn rice paper rolls with chilli dipping sauce and Beijing vegetarian dumplings are also staples. The Beef Tenderloin Fillet Fry ($20) is tasty but the Mixed Asian Greens ($10) is uninspiring. The menu is a little pricier than you would find elsewhere and you may find yourself leaving still relatively hungry. But if you order more (like I usually do) or come on a night when you are not incredibly hungry to begin with, then the quality of food should impress you. The restaurant is BYO and also has a coeliac friendly gluten-free menu and options for kids. The only issue I have with this place is the menu layout. I think it would be more successful if the dishes had a bit more description in terms of the sauces rather than just the main ingredient.

As soon as we approached the huge red door and glass front of the restaurant, we were impressed with the space they have created and knew we would be in for a treat. The center of the restaurant is furnished with a big red velvet couch and various arm chairs that invite you to sit down and enjoy a cocktail in a comfortable setting, while you take in your environment and wind down from the day. The restaurant is gently lit by various caged lights and beautiful arrangement of Eddison bulbs. It only takes moments to forget that you are in Potts Point and feel completely at home in this beautiful space. After being warmly welcomed by Michael and Xenia , we chose to sit down on the previously mentioned red couch and started our night with a couple of cocktails each, while reading through the impressive wine list. Ranging from around $42 per bottle, the wine list contained a beautifully curated selection of wines from all over the world and I am sure there is something on it for everyone and every budget. Once our cocktails arrived, we ordered the Charcuterie board ($18) with some crusty bread, butter, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The Charcuterie board included a selection of cured meats such as Jamon Serrano, grass fed bresaola, finnochiata, as well as sweet and tangy house made pickles. The serving was extremely generous and the presentation was beautiful. The two cocktails we chose with Xenia's help, perfectly complemented this platter. We had a Garden Pash ($18), which was a combination of gin, lemon and garden juice, which Xenia developed herself and is an interesting mix of cucumber and various herbs and spices. It is a light and bright cocktail with a flavour that keeps you interested. Andrew had the Spicy Passion Margarita ($18) which contained tequila, cointreau, passion fruit, lime, tabasco and jalapeno. Despite initially being unsure how the passion fruit would suit this combination, it was an absolute taste sensation (caution - this one obviously has some genuine bite to it) and perfectly suited the cured meat selection. After that, we were offered a table to continue our meal. Having followed Lot. One for quite some time via social media and having seen some of their meals through the beautiful photos they posted, we had a pretty good idea already what we wanted to try. We started with their whole stuffed squid ($26) which was buttery soft and the smoked red pepper, chorizo, pine nut and parsley filling gave it a delicious rustic yet light flavour. Next up was the Kangaroo Tataki ($24) which was the most tender and beautiful kangaroo dish either one of us had ever tasted. The kangaroo was surrounded by forest berries, native pepper, sunflower seeds and crispy sage leaves. Even thinking about it now, it still makes my mouth water. For our main meal, we both decided to consult their extremely helpful and friendly staff. We decided to share the Half Duck ($50) which arrived on a huge slate plate and was a generous serving, even for two people. The deboned, roasted glazed duck was surrounded by flash fried red grapes, crushed macadamia and a sea of crisp snow pea tendrils. We both really enjoyed it. As we both had our heart set on a dessert (which is actually very unusual for me, Andy even mentioned that he can't remember me ever ordering dessert at a restaurant) we decided to order another cocktail first before we moved on with our meal. After advising the staff of our dessert selection, they suggested the right cocktails to us. Smoked Sanguine ($18) was a sticky sweet delight, which arrived with a cloud of French Oat smoke and the Wake Me Up ($22) was a combination of patron XO café, baileys, coffee liqueur and fresh espresso. The extremely reasonable priced desserts ($14) were an absolute sensation. We chose the Turkish Delight and the Snickers inspired ones and both by far exceeded the high expectations we had after spotting them pass us on their way to other diners tables from the kitchen earlier on. I know this review is ridiculously long, but let it be a testament of how impressed we are with last night and the wonderful experience Xenia, Michael and the team provided us. I am not exaggerating when I say that this was probably one of the most amazing dining experiences we have ever had. We don't often treat ourselves to a night out like this, but next time we do, I am sure this is the place we both will agree we want to revisit. And as a final note: Lot. The prices are not for the faint-hearted but, as they say, you get what you pay for - so if you're game go for the Degustazione (your choice of 6 courses for $125) - unlike most restaurants Buon Ricordo allow you to choose your dishes from the a la carte menu or you have the option of letting the chef decide a complimentary assortment of dishes :) PS. The wines on offer are ALL fantastic, even at the cheap end. Mind you 'cheap' is a relative term and in this case, the wines are at 'restaurant prices'.
