It's New Years Eve. We got a Yellow Cab from our home in Monterey at 4:30 to a restaurant in Carmel. Driver said to call Yelow Cab and say he's willing to pick us up around 6;30. At about 6:45 we called and those liars at the office said he'd gone home. " So sorry. No one can come to Carmel." They prefer to give rides from the airport and assign rides to their preferred drivers who don't want to pick up in Carmel. . It was raining. My husband is disabled. Unreliable. Avoid this company. They have a contract with the Monterey Airport requiring them to pick up arriving passengers. They are violating their contract. Airport staff encouraged me to complain because they get so many complaints about this issue. Their contract does not require them to have a taxi at the airport 24 hours a day, but it does require them to respond and pick up passengers when customers call the number on the taxi cab sign at the airport curb. And that's the problem. The dispatcher on duty in the evening often never answers her phone. We called over and over and over and never got a live person. read more

Called for a cab, I was told it would be 15 to 20 minutes, didn't show up until 40 minutes later and didn't know his way around town. Meanwhile I saw another yellow cab come in 5 minutes to drop a passenger off, but leave before I could walk up to it. Clearly no dispatch coordination. read more

I think long gone are the days of clean well-maintained taxi cabs but my review is not based on the quick prompt service, the finest automobile or even the driver since he was a charm. This whole 1 star is for when it came time to payment, how when we mentioned paying by card how the driver switched gears and went on a rant about how pain in the butt cards are. I felt as though we would be stuck in this cab without being able to pay and having to involve the police since when we handed our cards to pay the driver kept entering both cards wrong on the square app manually and because of this kept declining... (Wouldn't even let us try and enter it ourselves) After my boyfriend convinced the driver to allow him to read the numbers one by one we didn't have an issue. I scheduled a car a day ahead for my 87 year old parents to be picked up from Pacific Grove and taken to transit plaza to catch Airbus going to SFO. Guy on the phone was pleasant and said sure no problem will for sure be there. " don't worry about it" he said as I told him about my parents. Next day no one shows up. Half an hour goes by and still no one. My mom calls me and she's totally freaked out. WARNING -- DO NOT try to reserve a Yellow Cab of Monterey for your trip to the airport! Their "reservation" system is a sham, and your cab will not arrive. Yellow Cab has done this repeatedly. They did it to me on 13 May 2022, and I nearly missed my flight out of Monterey Regional Airport. Pickup at my hotel was scheduled for 3:00 PM, and after Yellow Cab stood me up, I was I was finally able to arrange pickup at 3:50 PM by another cab company with headquarters 14 miles away -- one with no license for airport drop-off, so I had to lug my baggage 1000 feet to the airport terminal. The City of Monterey should revoke Yellow Cab's license and shut them down. read more

I was told I would have a cab in 20 minutes. so I took the crew which included an 83 year old woman up the hill as we were in Carmel and there is no addresses so we waited for our cab. After 30 minutes I called only to be told it was gonna be at least an hour more. It is now 6:00am still no call - still no cab. We had called back two more time but dispatch wouldn't even pick up. We took our own car to the airport it will cost $360.00 in long term parking. This was unbelievable! We make a reservation for a pick up in a ten year old nice neighborhood in Monterey and were told we will be there within 20 minutes. We had a reservation with a very nice restaurant in town and when 45 minutes had passed with no taxi we called back. The dispatcher was so rude, she stated that the driver could not find the address. So, let me see, he could not find the address and she never even bothers to call the client and when the client calls she is indignant! Well I was not exactly happy and while keeping my cool I was nonetheless stern and asked what she would do about this. She said she would have the driver call. He calls and we confirm the address. He asks what cross streets. Hell I don't know I am a visitor to your town that is what I called a taxi for. He stated he could not find it. My GPS found it I tell him and he says "well good for you". What???? I'm thinking your giving me an attitude here? I was so upset that I just had to get off the phone and tell my other guests the story. The rating is solely based on the initial call. I needed to be at Monterey Airport by 5:00AM. I called for a cab at 4:35AM, thinking how busy can they be, and I'm only 2.5 miles away from the airport. I was told it would be a 20-25 minute wait. At 5:15AM, 40 minutes later, I called again, cab was on it's way. Then at 5:20AM I get a call from yet another cab driver saying he'd be there in 5 minutes. My plane was boarding in 10 minutes. My only 5 star is my actual cab driver, who was concerned that I had my boarding pass so I could go straight to the gate and not miss my flight. Deserves 0 stars....the absolutely worst customer service i have ever received in my entire life! my car broke down. Called for a cab. Was told 5 minutes. After 15 minutes, with no cab I called back. Was told he was 5 minutes away. Waited another 10 minutes. No cab. Called back. There was a message ( I guess they link to your phone # to give recorded info) that said " your car is a black Toyota Van. " My car is a green Miata. So I waited for someone to come on the line. Told her all this- she said " your DRIVER is driving a black Toyota" in an exasperated, disgusted voice, like I was the most annoying stupid person to be bothering her. She said driver was 5 minutes away. I said I've been told "5 minutes" 3 times now and it's been over 30 minutes. She HUNG up on me! I called back. Someone else answered. Everyone should avoid these people like the plague. Last Saturday morning we had an early morning flight from Monterey Airport. I called on Friday night and made a 5am reservation for two cars as we were a party of 6 and had plenty of bags. The dispatcher took my order and with it info on how to get through the community gate. The next morning no one showed up by 5:15pm. I called the morning dispatcher who confirmed the order but said they were terribly busy and one taxi was on it's way from somewhere in Carmel Valley. I asked when could I expect him to arrive? She wasn't sure but probably in the next 25 mins. How about the second cab? He is coming. But when? She didn't know. I decided just to drive and leave my car at the airport. As we pulled into the airport (at around 5:35am) I got a call from Yellow Cab saying the the first driver had arrived at the Community gate but didn't know how to get in. I cancelled the trip. I called Yellow Cab about Noon the day before my Saturday flight and reserved a pickup to the airport in Monterey for 4:30 AM for a 6:00 flight. When the Cab didn't arrive, I called the dispatcher and was told the Cab would be 15 minutes late as the driver was finishing up another call. 15 minutes later when I called again, I was told that the driver had just drop[ped somebody off at the airport and would be another 20 minutes. Given the flight time, this necessitated taking my own car and parking at the airport, costing me double what the RT taxi would have cost. The dispatcher's attitude was that she had just come on duty, only one driver was working, and it was the prior dispatcher's fault and why didn't I just call an Uber or Lyft - none of which were working that early on that morning. Last time I use Yellow Cab as a reservation in advance obviously has no meaning with them. read more

Horrible, horrible experience. I was picked up very promptly at the Del Monte mall in Monterey and needed to go to Pebble Beach. After a few minutes the driver shut off his gps device and "acted" completely lost and confused. He was asking me for directions and I've never been to Pebble Beach in my life. Once the bill hit $27, I told him to drop me off at the nearest golf course so I could call my family to pick me up. $30 for a cab driver to drive me around in circles (doing u-turns, driving down dirt roads, etc) and take me nowhere near my destination. Once he dropped us off, I called the corporate office to tell them the situation (in a very calm manner) and was told I would receive a call back. Nothing. Horrible customer service all around. I will never use this cab service in my life and will tell everybody I know to avoid at all costs. read more

awesome! Was staying at the Portola Hotel recently and needed a ride somewhere. I walked to the front desk and they called me a cab. Literally less than 5 minutes later, this clean cab pulls up. A friendly driver (whose name I dont remember) picks me up. (I think he was cab #80 though) He tells me he's been driving for 16 years. Wow. Anyway, the guy gets me to where I needed to go and I just felt I got a great ride. I'd use these guys again. read more

Some of these drivers are terrific: on time, diligent about the job, reliable, kind, and decent. Many are. Mostly, if you call a driver privately, they are terrific. Many are very good with people as well-- not just decent taxi drivers. The The dispatchers seldom seem to know where anything is. The dispatcher seem to work against the drivers, they seem to know very very little about much of the peninsula and area, which leads to a lot of distress for the drivers. It's a wonder anybody gets anywhere at all. Then there are the drivers who put everyone at risk: the ones who text while speeding, the ones who drive hands-free, the ones to scream and shout, the ones with foul language, the ones who are sexually inappropriate, the ones who are despicable in their language about different ethnic races. And do just about any dangerous thing they choose. The ones who are deceptive (who cheat lie) who are functioning is hustlers (and getting away with it) because there's no checks and balances until the worst happens. And it does.... And there are the bafoons; the ones who claim they got a "raw deal in life" and so tread on others (pardon the pun) because they've failed at pretty much everything in life (and resent good and contributing citizens)-: jokers very much like the crazy character in the film Conspiracy Theory-- with every delusional conspiracy against them they can recite. As a passenger one realizes why they are filthy, "dressed for depressed" with cars so dilapidated it's hard to imagine they pass any safety tests. What is worse, they diminish the good drivers, they diminish the driver who show up on time, they diminish the drivers you can count on, they diminish the drivers are good and honest, they diminish the drivers you can trust. because there are many. And like anything else, it only takes a few bad apples to rot a bunch; as if the core is bad. The need of Uber or other business to come along is timely. Because to degrade and diminish the very people who pay their bills (the good citizens of this community both young and old) and the good people who rely on them for transportation: to think some drivers feel so little of themselves that the best they can do is drive around degrading and diminishing passengers by any means necessary, whether it's taking good people on $100 rides that are really $20 (tourists), taking good local people on $15 rides that they then charge $45 for; it's a hustle, and con. The tragedy of these poor low life characters is they are functionally preying on people (because again, somehow life "did them wrong") so they're driving around in the wild wild West with the low morality and lesser compunction about consequences. And all this into city known as "ground zero for overfishing"- these "land sharks" know no bottom. And the very good and reliable drivers are left scrambling, functioning with dignity, and doing the best they can (and working the job with self-respect and respect for their passengers) but these seem few. It would be wonderful to see a smaller taxi company with a handful of really really truly competent and capable drivers, who treated their customer and their passenger with the kind of respect and dignity that is commendable. Sure it's a drag to have to pick up drunks because too much alcohol is poured too often. But to be a taxi driver and deliberately do your worst (rather than your best) why that just says everything about character, unfortunately it doesn't say anything very good about it. I wish I could give them 0 stars. I scheduled a pickup the day before and when they didn't show at the scheduled time, I called and they said they'd be there in a few minutes. A taxi drives by my house a few minutes later and goes right on past me while I'm waving my arms frantically. I call again and they say they're turning around. They never show, so I have to drive myself. The driver ends up calling me to tell me he's at my house 20 minutes after the scheduled time, when I'm already well into my drive. Luckily I didn't miss my flight, but now I have to deal with leaving my car. Thanks for nothing. read more

I was going back home after picking up my kids, same time same route. As I was approaching an intersection I did my stop like stated in the California driving book however the yellow cab # 10 seemed to think that he owned the streets and can change the stop rule anytime he wants. It was my turn to go so I proceed and as I was pressing on the accelerator to turn left then he pressed on his accelerator to a point that he almost hit me. Because of the sudden stop I look to see if my kids were ok and they were but as I turned to the cab driver he was doing some weird facial gestures like as if it was my fault for not driving like a maniac. So be aware of yellow cab # 10 he might be on drugs or some mental prescription drug, not normal especially when cab has no passengers aboard. read more

The cab ride would have been great - if they had dropped me off at the correct hotel. The driver dropped us off at the wrong hotel. I called to inform the dispatcher about the issue. She said I would get a call back from the manager. I never heard from them again. We had to walk 15 minutes to get to the correct hotel. If the driver can't find the right hotel, and the company won't do anything to help when they screw up, I can't think of a single reason to ever use this service again. read more

Driver took charge of loading our gear and made an efficient and friendly drive to our destination in Carmel. I used to use Uber, but today's trip was cheaper and very pleasant. The day before our trip I requested a taxi to pick us up at 4:45 a.m. to get an early morning flight from Monterey Airport to make connections for an international flight. They said that the driver would be there. At 5:00 a.m. no taxi - so I called and was advised that the driver (car 80) is on their way and would be there soon (I had the feeling that the driver had not yet been dispatched). 10 minutes later the driver called and said that he would be there in 20 minutes - that would be at 5:30 which is 45 minutes after the original promised picked up time. Called Yellow cab again and was advised that the pick up time is approximate and is not guaranteed. (In this case they were not even close). Also there are no other drivers available. The dispatcher seemed to be very uncaring. At this point I could not trust anything that Yellow Cab said so I ended up driving to the airport where I will have to pay for 3+ week of parking which is three times the cost of a cab to and from the airport. Extremely disappointing in Yellow Cab's service. Next time I will use someone else. read more

Very unprofessional employees. I was driving along side a driver when he suddenly sped up and began to tailgate (within a foot) of a car in front of him, while also placing me in his own blind spot. He then began attempting to force himself over, into my lane, encroaching on my vehicle and nearly forcing me to swerve in to a median just north of the tunnel between Monterey and Cannery Row. Inside of the tunnel, the cab took advantage of a gap in traffic and rushed in front of me where he began swerving between both lanes to block traffic, and then kept himself in my lane while also attempting to brake check me. When he finally turned off, and we went our separate directions, he completely stopped in his turn off lane, and spat out his windows towards me as I passed him. I think his actions speak for themselves. I wouldn't trust that driver on the road, much less the safety of passengers inside his vehicle. Yellow Cab needs to replace him asap. read more

This company is terrible and deserves 0 stars in my opinion. My elderly mother has been having to rely on cab service to get to her physical therapy appointments several times a week. The office is very close to her house yet she has to pay high prices which seem to change on the whim of the driver. How can that be? Shouldn't the same trip cost the same regardless of the driver? What kind of scam do they have going? Also, a few of the drivers don't even bother to help her with the door or help her in the car when it is obvious she needs assistance. My last issue is with the fact they advertise that they accept credit cards yet, not one driver has allowed her to charge even when she brings up the ad. Her driver today refused to let her charge and then wouldn't give her a straight answer when she asked why her ride was so much more expensive than before. It was so much more that the poor woman did not have enough money to get home. That's just disgusting. They obviously have no problem taking advantage of the elderly. read more

A hotel employee offered to call a cab for me to be picked up at a particular time. I looked out the window just minutes before that time and noticed the cab (Yellow Cab) in the parking lot (no notice that it had arrived). I got into the cab and noticed that the meter had already been started, so I assume the driver started it as soon as he arrived at the hotel. When we arrived at the aquarium, the driver asked how much to run the card for (the fare was $11). I was a bit displeased that the driver started the meter early, so I only authorized him to charge my card for $13 (normally I tip more). The driver asked me if I wanted a receipt and I said no (what was I thinking?). While I was at the aquarium, I got a receipt from Square (I must have used this service before, so they automatically sent me a receipt). The receipt indicated a charge of $15.60, so the driver, Jerry Dunham, decided to take it upon himself to add an additional $2.60. I realize this is not a lot of money - which is why I assume it happens all the time - but the action did not sit well with me. So I called the company slightly after 4:00 P.M., but I was told the person I needed to discuss the incident with was not in the office and would not be back until Monday. My contact information was taken, and I was assured I would be contacted the following Monday. I was not contacted - no surprise - but decided I didn't want to waste my time over $2.60 (I assume this was considered before Jerry decided to pad his tip) calling this company back. I'm still debating disputing the charge with Amex, but even that will require my time to submit the dispute. I took a different cab company back to the hotel without issue. Avoid this company, especially the driver, if you can. read more

I had this happen a couple of times, but twice in less than a month this time. I called for a cab last night for 515 the next morning. My flight was at 630 am and that would give me time to get there with no problems. At 525 I tried calling dispatch to see where my cab was. I was put on hold twice. Finally I gave up and woke someone up to give me a ride. Lucky for me it is one of the times I could actually get someone to drive me to the airport. The cab called me this morning at 540 asking if I still needed the cab. I said I was already at the airport and he said all the cabs were busy that morning. Then DO NOT take reservations. I would not have made the cut off for the flight if I had waited for the cab. The time before when we called to ask where the cab was the dispatcher had tons of excuses to include she just came on about an hour before.
