I came back to Yeh's Bakery to pickup a 10" strawberry cake ($43) for a teamsgiving gathering at work. A few days prior, I called and placed my order. The staff member I spoke to on the phone was helpful and took down all my information like my phone number, which date I was coming to pick it up, the size and flavor of the cake, and if I wanted anything written on the cake. I told her I wanted "Happy Teamsgiving" written on it. When I arrived, the staff member asked me for my phone number and she went to the back to grab the strawberry cake and wrote on it. I asked for a knife and she put it on top of the box. Yeh's Bakery is still cash only, so make sure you bring cash. Everyone at the team gathering really enjoyed the cake and asked where I got it from. The strawberry cake was light, fluffy, and not overly sweet.
I always go to this bakery for one thing and one thing only. Their Boston crème cakes are absolutely heavenly. It is not only light and fluffy and but is also creamy and not too sweet. I usually get the original but once in a while if I am feeling adventurous, I get the strawberry one as well. The strawberry one is definitely a favorite for me but that is because the kid in me loves the lightly artificial strawberry flavor. But this is definitely a must try if you are in the area (the sell the original in individual slices too)! It is a small bakery with quick service and always worth the drive!
One of my favorite places to get a cake for family gatherings. So far, I've tried the green tea cake, strawberry cake, and the Boston cream pie, and I love them all. I usually call a day before with my order, and request any messages I'd like on top. When you arrive, they show you the cake before they box it. Even if I have less than 20 people that the 12" round cake can feed, I order it because everyone asks for extra slices and leftovers to take home. Their cakes are fresh, flavorful, light, and not too sweet. It's still cash only, but there's a bank ATM next door in case you forget to bring cash.
Great little bakery to grab some fresh clean dessert or snacks. - Curry bun was plain looking bun with some curry powder for flavor, but somehow it was very good to snack on, so simple yet just enough interesting flavors to keep you munching until it's all gone. - Boston cream pie = the famous item here nice and spongy. Everyone loved it, but I only just liked it. - Green tea cake = this was the best for me, with good flavor and such soft texture. We tried the slices one day, then few days later bought the entire roll to take for a big family gathering, so I could eat it again:) Cash only, good prices. Def worth to grab some snacks or dessert. Small store just choose things from counter, pay, go and enjoy:)
Cozy local family run bakery with nice coffee, tea. Excellent sponge cakes that are a great afternoon snack. Not too heavy. Very tasty.
Small family owned no frills bakery but offering the best green tea cake. Bit pricey compared to other asian bakeries and often difficult to park but you pay for the best.
Still my favorite cake! We ordered for pick up on Thanksgiving Day. Lines were long but goes quickly and the cake is always a hit. Strawberry with extra fruit, YUM!
In modern NYC, where cream puffs barely as big as ping pong balls will set you back $5 or more, and laminated dough has been elevated to the echelons of fine art, and almost every new bakery seems most concerned with being Instagramable, Yeh's is a refreshing reminder that quality cakes and impressive pastries can still be acquired in a humble setting and at prices that don't require one to take out a second mortgage (figuratively speaking, of course, since almost nobody can afford to buy a home here). Small, quiet and dimly lit, Yeh's might not seem like a destination for slices of Boston cream pie (sans chocolate) or strawberry shortcake. But the bakery's looks are deceiving, because those classics and more await inside a long glass case that fills half the space. My wife and I tried a half-dozen sweets when we stopped in; everything was remarkably light, nothing was too sweet. Flavors were surprisingly similar among different items. One exception was the pineapple cookie, a real standout that has a buttery crust and is more akin to a pineapple pie. There are also some relatively savory options, such as a salted egg yolk with red bean paste in a light pastry shell. Across the board, prices are around $2 or $3 per item, so you really can't go wrong. read more

Okay, I may be a little biased because I technically share a name with this bakery but there's no denying Yeh's Bakery is the absolute GOAT when it comes to Asian-style cakes. I am (admittedly) 100% a salty b because I seriously lack a sweet tooth. I am extremely picky when it comes to anything sweet. I spent the latter part of my growing up in Queens with visiting Yeh's for special occasions and the recipe seems to have not changed one bit in the past decade. The picture I took does not do the cake enough justice but then again, normally there wouldn't even be a picture because it wouldn't last a minute once it's in my possession. The sponge cake was made to be light, airy, and fluffy like a welcoming pillowy texture on the tongue. And they do not skimp on the house made cream filling - just look at that! This has become my go-to cake place, even if I'm not in this part of town I will still come here to grab a slice. read more

Hands down one of the lightest and fluffiest pie I've eaten. Though it's called a Boston cream pie don't be mistaken that it's a heavy sweet taste of a donut. It's actually the opposite, a light and fluffy creamy sponge cake. Each bite is like a new refreshing one. I totally ate this big pie with two people because it's so light and balanced. Highly recommend to try this if you like light and not too sweet of desserts. read more

Green tea cake with peaches, strawberries and cherries, was definitely different, light, fluffy and the whil cream on top was not too sweet. Perfect cake, everyone love it, cannot wait to tru the chocolate cake. The green tea flavor was just enough to not be overwhelming, trust me. I'm a huge fan of old school places that are hole in the walls! I grew up in Chinatown so OG places from 1-2 generations before me will always hold a special place in my heart. I give them a lot of credit for holding true to their original beloved recipes that still keep their loyal customers coming back for more whilst gaining new foodie fans. So, of course, Yeh's is one of them. I was never really a fan of Chinese cakes growing up, felt like they were always a tease compared to the American cakes that are richer, sweeter, and denser. However, I do love Yeh's and I think it's because they offer other cake flavors like green tea and strawberry rather than just the original yellow cake flavor. Their cakes hit your tongue with a little more weight than the very light and airy Chinese cakes that I despise, but it still has a light texture. I love the texture of their light cream as well. I do like Paris Baguette's cream a little more but PB is heavier. So if you like the lighter cream with the light dense cake, this is it. You can blindfold me and I can recognize the taste and texture of a Yeh's cake. That's how unique and special their taste is. You would have to try it to understand! read more
We've been going to them for their cakes and pies for over 30 years. And the store still looks the same as it did from way back. Great trip down memory lane every time we visit. Their fruit cakes are light and airy. You get to have your dessert and not feel like you've downed a pound of butter etc. Our favorite is still the Boston cream pie. It's simply the best anywhere. Light, fluffy cake, with a whipped cream in the middle. Not overly sweet. Just right. Will satisfy your sweet tooth without leaving you feeling guilty, as long as you have one reasonable serving of course. Truly a gem. read more

My daughter wanted their famous strawberry cake for her birthday last month. Unfortunately, they were closed for the pandemic. When I drove by a few days ago and saw that they were now open again, I stopped the car immediately and rushed in to get a cake. This is a small mom and pop bakery that specializes in sponge cakes. They are light and flavorful, the exact opposite of the heavy cakes you find at Martha's. I ordered a strawberry sponge cake with fruit. My family devoured the entire cake after dinner. This is good stuff :) read more
Old school Chinese bakery. Fast and friendly service. Serving basic bakery foods and the best sponge cake you can ever have! Their signature cake - Boston cream pie. It consists of two layers of fluffy sponge cake with a sweetened whipped cream in between. The cake is super light and delicious. They also make birthday cakes in different flavors. a must try if you're in the neighborhood. And they're Cash only. read more
My cousin bought a cake for thanksgiving and we finished all of it in a sitting! He said when he personally always gets their original one, but got there all they had left was strawberry, nevertheless, it was still so good! The cake is so fluffy and the cream is not so sweet (perfect for parents haha). Will definitely be back to buy if I'm in the area! read more
My go to bakery for all occasion cakes!! My favorite is their infamous green tea cake. I'm not a huge sweets person so I love that the cream on the cake isn't super sweet but very light. The cake texture is also so airy and moist. Today I tried the vanilla cake for the first time and also loved it. I make sure to call ahead and they always have the cake ready for me by the time I arrive. You can also add a note on the cake for special occasions. The fruit on the cake is also super fresh. Their prices did increase a bit but still worth it in my opinion. I've been coming here for years and love the consistency. Highly recommend read more

The fluffiest and softest bread with so much cream filling! Definitely recommend their pie but their assorted other bakery items were just as good! They only take cash though so just don't forget that! read more

I ordered the green tea cake and it lacked flavor. Couldn't taste a hint of green tea at all. And the cake's frosting was sloppy. read more

Just want to add onto my personal experience here. The workers here are so friendly and I love all the goods here. I have seen the prices go up, but I definitely understand from a business perspective. It's only fair when prices for other items go up (essentials like boxes, fruit, anything necessary to maintain the business), that prices for the goods go up with it. I mean a pandemic just hit so of course these things are impacted. It's not fair for a business to take a loss or penalty, so it's understandable! And even with the price increase, I still think everything is worth it and inexpensive. I really really love the rolls here, something about them hit different compared to other bakeries. One of the things I love about this place is that they can accommodate to assembling a last minute cake order when I'm running late from work and I have no time to order prior. I haven't seen other bakeries have this option that I'm aware of! They have saved me for so many events. Their coffee and savory buns are amazing too :) read more

Pastry lovers has to come here! Amazing bakery with a lot of pastries to offer! Location: It is located in Main Street Flushing. The bakery is small, no seating so just go here and buy all you want. There is an amazing display of pastries, cookies, breads and cakes! Service: they were nice actually, waited for me to choose and take pictures inside the bakery. Food: BOSTON CREME PIE: this was so good! So fluffy and the cream inside is so light that I won't feel guilty eating it! It resembles Japanese jiggly cheesecake but this way lighter and better! They have a boston creme pie strawberry too. GREEN TEA CAKE: it was perfect sweetness, the matcha is not overpowering! Price rating: 5/10, the price is very reasonable. OMG I will definitely go back here to try their other goodies!! Boston Creme Pie was the bomb! read more
Been wanting to try their other cakes and had another occasion recently to get their strawberry cake! I called the day before and scheduled for an early pickup (8:30am) and was told they start baking around 8am and would be able to do it! Ordering was easy and you just have to tell them your phone number to pickup. All my friends (kids included) that tasted the cake absolutely loved it, including myself! The goal is to try the green tea one next time. My new go-to place for cakes!! read more

I'll be the first to say what's on everyone's mind. I understand that inflation sucks for everyone. Yeh's has been raising prices since Covid hit,I noticed 2-3 since March 2020 (prime Covid). What hurts me the most-being that I've eaten their cake for 30+ years is that they skimp on the cream now and raised the price. I knowwwww I'm not the only one who noticed because I've heard it from multiple people. If you are reading this and agree with me you should give them a negative feedback until they go back to the product we all feel in love with. This is constructive criticism and I am willing to change the review if the owners are listening.u read more

Sometimes it feels like there are more than enough Chinese bakeries out there, most are not that great and very few are outstanding enough to go out of the way for. Yeh's falls into this last category. The bakery looks typical but it's definitely a step above most. Their green tea cake is scrumptious, I'd 100% recommend it. Their vanilla cake seemed kind of bland in comparison so I wouldn't suggest getting it unless you're really in the mood for a basic cake. The cream in the cake is always spot on, airy, just the right amount of sweet, cake Is light and fluffy and the fruits top it all off. I have yet to try the chocolate, strawberry or chestn but believe me, I will be going back to do just that. We bought a few different buns and liked them all. We had recently had a bad experience at Carnation on Kissena so we're relieved to find that Yeh's buns are good. Will definitely be buying more on our next stop there! read more
Stopped here on a recommendation and tried the Boston pie, the pineapple cake, old wive's cake, and date paste dessert pastry. The pie was a yellow sponge cake with creme simply whipped which was ok for $17 for a whole pie, see my original review. Pineapple cake was too dry and not very sweet center. The old wives dessert was off tasting and not good at all with a tasteless winter melon filling (Fay Da does it better). The date dessert was ok but the pastry shell was too thick and not enough date paste inside like you can get at Apollo's Bakery. Overall, I've had better. read more
It's been a hot hot hot minute since I came here after I moved to Long Island Suburbs. My son's big day today and I took a trip here to pick up my custom strawberry cake layered with their famous lightly sweetened freshly whipped cakes. When you step inside It's as if you step back in time. My mom first took me here when I was 11 or 12 and this place still look the same. The bakery captures a lot of customers from the surrounding businesses such as the hospital. It's great to see a flow a diverse crowd visiting this Gem. I also picked up half dozen curry beef pastry and their chicken rolls. I took a bite and taste just like my first time eating them in the 1990s when I was a little boy. When I want a good delicious healthier cake I come to Yeh's. read more

Anytime when I am in the neighborhood. I have to stop by here to pick up a Boston cream pie. Their Boston cream pie is very light and fluffy and good.. Good amount of cream. Green tea Roll is another one of my favor too, you can't go wrong with it.. Also, try their Beef curry puff. The curry beef got good flavor and the puff is very flaky.. The chicken roll is just ok, not much chicken. I notice their price went up, I guess is because of the pandemic. It is kinda expensive, but overall it is worth it. If you are in the neighborhood, you must try their Boston cream pie. read more

Note: Cash only Never knew the famous cake was known as Boston Cream Pie since to me, it's a cream pie with chocolate. I always called the cake by the flavor (Strawberry, Green Tea, etc). On first look, the cake with cream and confectionery sugar on top doesn't look exciting. I was reminded to make sure the cake is refrigerated before serving. Brought 2 strawberry cakes for the events, I attended. Both group loved the cake. When you cut and eat your first slice, the cake is so light and fluffy meanwhile the cream is a perfect balance. You don't feel guilty eating since it's not heavy. This is the type of cream I can eat non-stop. The store is on a street that has hit or miss street parking so you might need to park further away. There are no tables in the store -- more of an order and leave. There are some baked goods including wrapped sponge cake. read more

Updating my review because their scallion breads are bomb. They're large, full of scallion umami goodness, and incredibly cheap. Just get the scallion bread instead of the corn and scallion bread. The corn version significantly reduces the amount of scallions on the bread, and there's not enough corn. Their other savory pastries (curry puff and chicken roll) are also worth getting. I think I'm just not as huge of a fan of their sweet items. Their sponge cakes are very fluffy though. Because of COVID they're limiting to only 3 people in the store at a time. read more

Yes, but not cheap @ $8.50 each. However Mid-Autumn Festival was on September 10, so they may not have any left today September 11.
How much does their whole Boston cream pie cost now? What time do they open on Fridays?
I think it's 7 a.m. on Fridays. I believe it's $15 per pie.
Is their Boston Cream pie dairy free?
Not sure, but I highly doubt it cause it tastes like whipped cream between the cake's layers.
