I'm a huge fan of old school places that are hole in the walls! I grew up in Chinatown so OG places from 1-2 generations before me will always hold a special place in my heart. I give them a lot of credit for holding true to their original beloved recipes that still keep their loyal customers coming back for more whilst gaining new foodie fans. So, of course, Yeh's is one of them. I was never really a fan of Chinese cakes growing up, felt like they were always a tease compared to the American cakes that are richer, sweeter, and denser. However, I do love Yeh's and I think it's because they offer other cake flavors like green tea and strawberry rather than just the original yellow cake flavor. Their cakes hit your tongue with a little more weight than the very light and airy Chinese cakes that I despise, but it still has a light texture. I love the texture of their light cream as well. I do like Paris Baguette's cream a little more but PB is heavier. So if you like the lighter cream with the light dense cake, this is it. We've been going to them for their cakes and pies for over 30 years. And the store still looks the same as it did from way back. Great trip down memory lane every time we visit. Their fruit cakes are light and airy. You get to have your dessert and not feel like you've downed a pound of butter etc. Our favorite is still the Boston cream pie. It's simply the best anywhere. I really grew to appreciate this bakery. Their cakes are not fancy looking and they represent a standard traditional Chinese sponge cake. However, they are light and airy. The cream on the cake is not too sweet and very fresh. We came here to buy my daughter's birthday cake because American cake is just overly sweet and dense. I grew up having their cakes for my birthdays, they are well known for good quality and freshness. Their boston cream pies are at this point are almost everything a cake should be. The cream is light, fresh, a tiny bit of sweet, the cake is moist and fluffy, and it has been this way for the past decade or more. My go to bakery for all occasion cakes!! My favorite is their infamous green tea cake. I'm not a huge sweets person so I love that the cream on the cake isn't super sweet but very light. The cake texture is also so airy and moist. Today I tried the vanilla cake for the first time and also loved it. I make sure to call ahead and they always have the cake ready for me by the time I arrive. You can also add a note on the cake for special occasions. The fruit on the cake is also super fresh. Been wanting to try their other cakes and had another occasion recently to get their strawberry cake! I called the day before and scheduled for an early pickup (8:30am) and was told they start baking around 8am and would be able to do it! Just want to add onto my personal experience here. The workers here are so friendly and I love all the goods here. I have seen the prices go up, but I definitely understand from a business perspective. It's only fair when prices for other items go up (essentials like boxes, fruit, anything necessary to maintain the business), that prices for the goods go up with it. I mean a pandemic just hit so of course these things are impacted. It's not fair for a business to take a loss or penalty, so it's understandable! And even with the price increase, I still think everything is worth it and inexpensive. I really really love the rolls here, something about them hit different compared to other bakeries. One of the things I love about this place is that they can accommodate to assembling a last minute cake order when I'm running late from work and I have no time to order prior. I'll be the first to say what's on everyone's mind. I understand that inflation sucks for everyone. Yeh's has been raising prices since Covid hit,I noticed 2-3 since March 2020 (prime Covid). What hurts me the most-being that I've eaten their cake for 30+ years is that they skimp on the cream now and raised the price. Sometimes it feels like there are more than enough Chinese bakeries out there, most are not that great and very few are outstanding enough to go out of the way for. Yeh's falls into this last category. The bakery looks typical but it's definitely a step above most. Their green tea cake is scrumptious, I'd 100% recommend it. Their vanilla cake seemed kind of bland in comparison so I wouldn't suggest getting it unless you're really in the mood for a basic cake. The cream in the cake is always spot on, airy, just the right amount of sweet, cake Is light and fluffy and the fruits top it all off. I have yet to try the chocolate, strawberry or chestn but believe me, I will be going back to do just that. We bought a few different buns and liked them all. It's been a hot hot hot minute since I came here after I moved to Long Island Suburbs. My son's big day today and I took a trip here to pick up my custom strawberry cake layered with their famous lightly sweetened freshly whipped cakes. When you step inside It's as if you step back in time. My mom first took me here when I was 11 or 12 and this place still look the same. The bakery captures a lot of customers from the surrounding businesses such as the hospital. It's great to see a flow a diverse crowd visiting this Gem. Stopped here on a recommendation and tried the Boston pie, the pineapple cake, old wive's cake, and date paste dessert pastry. The pie was a yellow sponge cake with creme simply whipped which was ok for $17 for a whole pie, see my original review. Pineapple cake was too dry and not very sweet center. The old wives dessert was off tasting and not good at all with a tasteless winter melon filling (Fay Da does it better). On first look, the cake with cream and confectionery sugar on top doesn't look exciting. I was reminded to make sure the cake is refrigerated before serving. Brought 2 strawberry cakes for the events, I attended. Both group loved the cake. When you cut and eat your first slice, the cake is so light and fluffy meanwhile the cream is a perfect balance. You don't feel guilty eating since it's not heavy. This is the type of cream I can eat non-stop. The store is on a street that has hit or miss street parking so you might need to park further away. Updating my review because their scallion breads are bomb. They're large, full of scallion umami goodness, and incredibly cheap. Just get the scallion bread instead of the corn and scallion bread. The corn version significantly reduces the amount of scallions on the bread, and there's not enough corn. Their other savory pastries (curry puff and chicken roll) are also worth getting. I think I'm just not as huge of a fan of their sweet items. Their sponge cakes are very fluffy though. Because of COVID they're limiting to only 3 people in the store at a time. read more

It's the perfect indulgence for those worried about diabetes. The strawberry is one of the most popular. Haven't had the Boston creme pies yet but you can expect they are the same as the traditional cakes but set up differently. For the taro lovers, don't expect a purple bubble tea like texture or flavor. It is made with real taro, which can be a turn off for some expecting the Kung Fu tea flavor. I do not get to come here often, but when I do I try to stock up on lots of their goodies. They have really great Chinese breads and cakes for sale that are made fresh daily. The place is small and they do sell out fast, but the workers here try their best to make sure you get what you need. The place may not be visual appealing, but it's clean and you cannot be in there for more then 5 minutes anyway. You really cannot go wrong trying out this place. Been coming here for years! I'm talking more than 20 yrs, here! For every occasion, we'd buy the cakes from here. It's like the Asian thing we do...have numerous cakes, right? We always get the strawberry cake. I would describe the cakes as light fluffy, airy...their version of a chiffon cake. It isn't TOO sweet...it's a different kind of sweet...fruity and not over powering. Other than the cakes, we get their chicken rolls and if we wanted to try anything else, we'd get them in slices . From what I remember, it is cash only here. They're known for the strawberry, green tea, taro and the Boston pie! The cakes come in different sizes as well. Through the years, though, the prices have slightly increased. Which is fine by me because I like supporting small businesses, and because...you know, inflation. It is hard to find parking around...so, if you plan to come here, either you commute, or have a second person with you to drive around until you come out. I do recommend coming here and getting the cakes. My fave is the strawberry which has fruit on top. This is the only cake I get for birthdays.
