Spicy chicken (Dak Gui)
Dee A.

A forever solid place. I came with my 2 adult daughters and two godsons on a Thursday night after 8pm. Although the sushi bar was closed, the rest of the restaurant was business as usual. It had been over 18 months since we've visited and we missed it. The menu had some updates since we've last visited. Needless to say, my eyes were much bigger than my stomach! The servings are huge and the prices are very reasonable. The waitress was friendly and patient- she assisted my daughter with ordering something new. I ordered warm sake for the first time at this location. It went excellent with the spicy chicken with rice meal I ordered. I had one of my daughter's dumplings which was also amazing. My godson who initially introduced us to this restaurant ordered the Korean Seafood Pancake which was served like a pizza- I had a slice which was excellent!

It's been a while since I last dined at Yechon. There was a time when this place was everyone's favorite--open 24/7 and always packed, with long dinner queues. I remember going there many times after clubbing back in college, this was pre-COVID era!!! When we visited last week around 9:00 PM, the restaurant was less than half full. It was honestly sad to see Yechon like this. We initially went for our usual Yechon Special #2, which comes with a sashimi appetizer, but unfortunately the sushi counter had already closed (something that never used to happen). Our waitress offered $5 off since the sashimi wasn't available. We declined!!! Instead, we ordered à la carte: Yukgaejang and Galbi Dolsot Bibimbap. The Yukgaejang was delicious and served piping hot. The bibimbap was just as I remembered--plentiful and flavorful. And of course, my favorite: the kimchi. Yechon still has one of the best kimchi in town.

We love going to Yechon for a Korean BBQ eating experience. We are creature of habit, so we always get the pork belly (2 orders minimum!) and the seafood pancakes (haemul pajeon). For tonight's dinner, we ordered mandu gui, 5 potstickers filled with ground meat with kimchi. We also ordered bulgogi where we devoured this dish within minutes. Perfectly seasoned, the beef was a premium cut with hardly any fat nor chewy pieces. I wrapped my meat in lettuce and added a little bit of rice along with the side dishes including kimchi, pickled cucumbers, etc. I dipped in the sesame oil filled with salt and pepper and, oh my, what was boring by themselves, this lettuce wrap of mine was so good! It was half filled with customers tonight. A family of 5 came in after us, and their conversation was quiet due to the vent above us that was constantly on while the staff was cooking our pork belly. And so, I would say the ambiance was really good. The service here is far from 5 stars, but their food made up for somewhat abrupt behavior from the service that we were able to ignore and just enjoyed our conversation between the 3 of us. I know there are many places to get Korean BBQ experience here in Annandale, Virginia, which is known as Koreantown, but I think you should give Yechon a try to see the quality of meats they use. Well worth it!

This is the OG bibimbap place of my childhood. The dolsot bibimbap is a little pricier but the scorched rice is so perfectly crunchy and very filling, especially with all of the banchan. Seolleongtang was not too beefy and a significant portion, although I wish they gave more green onions.

I went to Yechon and had such a great experience. The ambience was lively and fun. It felt energetic without being overwhelming. It's the kind of place where you can have a really good time with friends and just enjoy the atmosphere. I ordered the hwe dop bab and it was really fresh and great. Everything tasted clean and well prepared, and it was honestly just really nice to eat. I also tried the soondooboo, which was warm, comforting, and flavorful. The service was good, and I loved the Korean ahjummas working there. It made the whole experience feel even more authentic and homey. I'd definitely go again. It's a solid, fun spot with great food and great energy.

The service was outstanding as always..... we arrived before dinner rush and was seated quickly, the food was delicious Bibimbap and the sushi hit the spot. I recommend that you stop in and taste for yourself as you will be impressed.

Reliable option with friendly service! Feels very homey in here and I've never had a bad meal here. The kimchi is great too! While i miss the days when they were 24/7, they are open late enough that popping in here later than normal is still a good option.

Mackerel, sashimi, bulgogi, spicy squid, naengmyeon

Solid NOVA Korean restaurant, but they face some stiff competition from other Annandale / Centerville spots. I came with a mid-sized (5 people) group around 7 PM on a Saturday, and they were thankfully able to squeeze us in despite it being the peak dinner rush. The portions are pretty generous; we opted to order a variety of dishes and share (as all good Asian dinners go) and ended up having a ton of leftovers at the end of the evening. We got a combo set that included mackerel, sashimi, stir fried marinated beef, and then added on their spicy stir fried squid, naengmyeon, and hameul pajeon. The menu said the set could serve 2, but I think it could've easily served 3 or maybe 4 people. Their seafood was all solid -- the sashimi was super fresh (albeit not quite the dish I was expecting at a Korean restaurant), the mackerel had a nice char, and the stir-fried squid was quite flavorful and generally cooked well. The naengmyeon was a great refreshing choice for the summer evening, but it was way too sweet. I also didn't love their pajeon -- it was a tad too greasy for my taste, and had very little of the seafood filling. Even so, the service was super friendly and the restaurant had a great, laidback, home-cooking ambiance. I would definitely come back for their squid, but think the other dishes can be a skip.

Banchan. The kimchi is made in house and it's wonderful. Sometimes they have spicy braised tofu that's fantastic, too.

I've been going here for over 20 years. That ends tonight. After I was seated, I was ignored for 15 minutes. As I was ordering galbi dolsot bibimbap, the waitress cut me off, said "we're out" and walked away to go seat another table. Where was that sense of urgency when I waited 15 minutes to be seated? I've never been treated so rudely at a restaurant before. Don't go here. There are plenty of other Korean restaurants in Annandale where the waitress won't walk away mid-order after you sank 30 minutes waiting. It saddens me to see how far this restaurant has fallen. The only reason you would go there is for what it was, not what it is.

Great food. Service was quick and they're open late. Restaurant is clean and simple and offers normal wooden chopsticks!

Wow I've been here many times but I guess I've never reviewed. Pretty staple spot that is open ..a lot of hours. The squid was fire. I wasn't that crazy about the seafood bibimbap-- it wasn't very flavorful and I don't think they gave me extra sauce for it? The rice on the bottom was crispy though. Bossam is okay - I thought the pork was a bit dry. I love the extensive menu here and their banchan spread is awesome. Service is usually pretty quick. Kind of noisy in there when a lot of people, and tables are close together but it's cozier that way haha.

However, it took a while for our server to acknowledge us, even though she had passed our table several times. We decided on the AYCE menu, which allowed us to order up to 5 rounds, with premium items limited to one order. Our group only made it through 2 rounds. The food came out relatively fast, and the standouts were the chicken hibachi, popcorn shrimp, and premium sushi. The restaurant itself was pretty, trendy, and seemed like a cool place to visit, but the food was nothing too special, especially for the price. I would definitely come back and give it another try for a better experience.

We went and got the AYCE premium menu (which is ridiculous that you have to choose the premium for nigiri and sashimi but whatever), and upon seating they give you a paper menu to write down your order. We got their premium box which is like $25 or $26 off of their à la cart menu and while it's super pretty to look at it was disgusting. The Wagyu was thick, slimy, and chewy and made me want to throw up. The toro had wayyyyy too much wasabi in it and felt like torture to eat. The other two pieces were ok but if I paid à la for it I'd be PISSED. The rolls and nigiri and sashimi were a mixed bag, some were okay, some were slimy, and some were just dry. The cooked food was decent but not very flavorful, my siblings favorite dish of the night was the cooked bulgogi which I found to be chewy and you guessed it, flavorless. Service left much to be desired, there's an hour 30 minute time limit on AYCE and you get four rounds total. They take your paper in the back to put in your order and don't bring it back out until all of your order has come out(which fair), but it takes about 30ish minutes per round and having to flag someone down to take your paper back is a pain. I think if they had tablets or maybe a call button that would be better? Unsure. Regardless the food quality needs a major upgrade to make it worth the price.

The service was super attentive and respectful. Is this the best ramen in the DMV? I wouldn't say so, but for Annandale, I was genuinely surprised and would try them again if I was in the area. Miso broth was decent, but not as hot as I typically like it. 8/10 broth flavor. Noodles are the right "thicker & curly" style, but were overcooked by a noticeable amount. They should be slightly chewy, IMO. I regret not specifying more "QQ" or chewy al dente when I ordered my Ramen bowl. In Japan it is fairly common to be able to choose from several levels of noodle firmness/doneness. The environment is like a food hall restaurant - with shared bathrooms in the main concourse of the building. The bathrooms were messy and wet everywhere - not pleasant. Overall the building seemed more than a bit crusty - not the most appetizing backdrop. I was torn between 3 or 4 stars for this one. I am rounding up. This is pretty much exactly a 3.5 star experience.

I'd heard about this style of dish before and had been wanting to try it, so of course I had to! I stopped in on a Monday in the middle of the afternoon, and there were already about 4-5 tables occupied, which I took as a good sign! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and seated promptly. I ordered the Chicken Curry Abura Soba, and this was definitely a hit in my book! It smelled and looked so good that I dug right in as soon as it hit the table (so please excuse the picture lol). The curry flavor was rich and full, the noodles were perfectly chewy, and the chicken was crispy on the outside while still moist on the inside. At first, I only mixed everything together slightly and thought it was delicious. But once I REALLY mixed everything and got all of that sauce from the bottom incorporated throughout the noodles? Completely different flavor experience. So good! I also ordered the pork dumplings as an appetizer. I order pork dumplings pretty often when I go out, and whatever version of them Kanjiken is doing, I really enjoyed it. The texture was giving homemade...I don't know if they actually are, but that's what it gave! Either way, they were good. To drink, I had a bottle of white peach black tea, which was crisp, refreshing, and paired really well with the meal. Overall, I highly recommend Kajiken. The beef with the egg yolk was very good, especially along with the spicy add-on sauce (it was spicy!). The noodles & sauce were excellent; you can order add-ons to the noodle bowls, and they come in separate dishes so you can add on yourself to create different bites, and also share. Each add-on was small and good for 1-2 people to share. Tried umeboshi (sour plum) for the first time and loved it mixed in with noodle or rice. Caution to eating by itself, it'll make you pucker up real quick. Wakame soup was comforting. They also have smaller portion rice bowls, that were plenty filling. I would recommend getting a couple add ons though, as the karrage chicken was good, but rather plain. If you like spicy, you can get it here, but you can also keep it mild. Fun dinner. Kevin was a wonderful server, answered my bunches of questions and was friendly about it. I walked in without expectations and walked out with a memorable experience and getting to try new foods. A win in my world! The inside of the restaurant is very well lit and bright. It has a bit of a high end food court, corporate feel to it. I'd go again.
