Late night craving for korean bbq?! Yechon never closes! 24/7 errday ok! Me and my hubby got hungry at 1am and we went here to get some food and saw a bunch of people eating their kbbq order. They served the side dishes first and after a few mins came the main order. Just don't. Food is okay, but servers and other patrons will stare you down until you leave making the whole experience entirely uncomfortable and not worth the drive or money. I was looking forward to eating Korean food. I had high expectations for this restaurant because it got such good reviews on Yelp. We enjoyed the seafood pancakes and highly recommend it. The yukihjang soup was flavorful and hearty. The service was great and fast, I was really looking forward to the galbi so we ordered the type of galbi that needs to be grilled on the table. We moved to Richmond and were so excited to be going by yechon that we decided to have a late lunch there since it USED TO BE our favorite Korean spot BUT... I believe that Yechon is using COVID as an excuse to provide bad food and worse service. The food was lacking a lot of the usual veggies and flavor which would have been excusable except that the prices have gotten significantly higher while the food quality decreased significantly. The bim bim bap had no egg in it!! We were told we couldn't order sushi because the sushi chef was gone but we were watching him roll sushi while they were telling us he was gone. The WORST PART was that we were given one bottle of water and when we asked for more, we were told there was going to be an extra charge...I asked if I could have a cup of water and they said no... they should tell you when you enter that one bottle is complimentary. Our check was $110 yet we couldn't have two extra 10 cent bottles of KIRLKAND BRABD WATER?! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE YECHON! I AM NEVER COMING BACK! YOU SUCK!! Oh wait! The hype is real. I came here full of skepticism because 1) I've been disappointed by way too many Korean places in Annandale that have great Yelp reviews and 2) Yechon's menu has like 9458 items on it so I assumed not everything could be good (although Cheesecake Factory also has 39585 items and most of their dishes are surprisingly tasty...hmmm). Anyways, the wait unfortunately was also very real as mentioned by other people. I guess this is the "it" place for Korean food in VA. Wait wasn't terrible though....like 30min? I'm a big fan of hanboks (Korean traditional dresses) so it was cool to see the waitresses dressed in them. The food here is pretty solid. I wouldn't say it's mind-blowing and I didn't experience any foodgasms, but I was extremely satisfied at finally getting really homey Korean food. As I said, they are always busy so they treat hover to get you to leave as quickly as possible. Have a birthday cake? Service can get even more poor. Party of 10 and paid over $400 for dinner and was rude when we asked for plates to serve a cake for my mother's bday dinner. As a kid I used to think Yechon was the best! I think as I started exploring all the different korean places in the area I began to realize that it's kind of average... What's good about them is that their menu offers a huge range of korean food. KBBQ, soups, noodles, etc. They even serve sushi which isn't bad at all. They're also open 24/7 which is awesome if you're looking for korean food late night. Service is efficient and prompt. On the other hand, due to its popularity, the wait times for tables can get pretty long during peak hours. Yechon's menu may be extensive, but it feels as though the dishes don't stand out, flavor-wise, to other korean restaurants. It's a jack of all trades kind of thing. If your menu has so many different things to offer it's hard to specialize. Pricing is on the expensive side. A bowl of naengmyun (cold noodles) is around $12-14 here where I've seen the same dish at another establishment priced 2-3 dollars cheaper. I think Yechon's a great place to take someone that's new to Korean food because their menu allows you to try so many different things. However, if you know what you're craving, dodging the wait time and pricing for a different place may be best. read more

I stumbled upon Yechon during a trip to DC and I've fallen in love with this restaurant. The servers are so kind and make every effort to make sure you're comfortable. The menu has a lot of options outside of Korean cuisine as well, in case you're craving Chinese or Japanese food. I ordered the Kimchi Jigae which had an abundant amount of kimchi and pork. My mom had the a Fish Egg Jigae which was just as amazing. You can change the spiciness however you'd like. They also provide a lot of side dishes for you to enjoy as well! read more

Last night, the waitress said I didn't tip enough. The service was so poor, I didn't want to leave anything but I did give about 10% which was more than they deserved. Never again. We came here on Saturday and was immediately greeted. They have sheltered outdoor seating available and indoor was distanced between tables. We ordered the Yechon Special menu #3 it was $70 for a lobster, galvi, beef bulgoli,spicy pork, spicy chicken and shrimp. The set came with rice and a large spread of ban chan. We also ordered the vegetable pancake and soy sauce shrimp. Everything was very good, service, food and quality. My only suggestion is pass on the soy sauce shrimp, it was an interesting try but didn't have much flavor not worth the $16. Nice to try once but not again. Have to downgrade Yechon which hurts my heart a little bit because this place makes me so happy and I have a lot of fond memories here but the food is just not what I hope for anymore. I went for lunch today and had the kimchi jigae and haemul pajeon. The pajeon was average and the kimchi jigae was not the best (I make better at home for sure). I also had to ask for hot tea several times which I don't think was my waitresses' fault. She was so kind and attentive. I really like this place. Their flavors (sauces) for the Korean BBQ was different than some of the others in Annandale. It's a younger crowd and a smaller space; they can be busy on the weekends. We always had to wait for a table. However, it was one of our many favorite restaurants in that area. If you're looking for a late snack/meal with a few friends, this is great. read more

But as some high schoolers who wanted to enjoy some good foods, but with limited amount of cash we have, we able to put a 2 dollars tip. (And of course we felt sorry for that). I can't believe I left out a review on Yechon. This is the best all rounder 24 hr Korean restaurant. For those who commented they had bad service because they were not asians, it maybe true but I never had that issue haha. Anyhow I've had pretty much everything there from BBQ to tofu casseroles to seafood pancakes to korean chirashi to sushi. They were all good. They made casseroles spicy like I requested. Loved their banchans, the lovely waitresses always gave us extra if we asked. Most of the dishes were also inexpensive unless you ordered the BBQ or the large family style casseroles. I don't think you can say that about other korean restaurants they either specialise in certain type of korean dishes or they are big buffet joints. Yechon is the one stop shop and it's the first restaurant right off RT-495 when you arrive in Annandale via the highway. read more

Friendly service, and we never had to look around for refills despite a half-full house. Mostly fellow yellows pouring soju for each other. Yechon's food selection is odd in proportion but I suppose that means you're bound to find something for everyone. I ordered the goat meat soup, which came out in good time, still boiling. The great broth was meaty and pleasantly spiced; best Korean entree I've had this year. It was so filling that I simply couldn't finish. Rice was just right, and improved further by the soup. The bite I mooched of the beef yakisoba was decent. The nine banchan were less impressive than the entrees, but by no means unwelcome. Fried tofu, meh seaweed, chicken patties with broccoli and wood ear fungus, napa kimchi, vermicelli noodle salad, potato salad, ssamjang with purilla seeds and sesame oil, fresh cucumber salad, and spinach. The hot barley tea was exactly what I needed on a chilly evening. I'll definitely be back, even if it isn't the middle of the night. Second visit: Closer to three star food, but service was just as excellent as last time. I probably didn't have to request the tea, but I was parched and didn't want to leave things to chance. This time we had seven banchan between more people, possibly because of the later hour: pickled daikon and cucumber, bean sprout kimchi, spinach in sesame dressing, wakame, potato salad, napa kimchi, cucumber kimchi. My udong was okay. Light broth, nicely chewy udon noodles, various vegetables. I would've liked more than one piece of wood ear fungus, but the mushrooms I mooched from the sisters' vegetable yakisobas made up for it. The inclusion of tofu skin made for good hangover prevention. Not bad, but it's unlikely that I'd get this again. Third visit: I had envy over Keon's daeji bulgogi. I preferred it to my tonkatsu, as much as I adore apple bunny slices. The applesauce added as dressing to the relatively plain salad wasn't bad. Napa kimchi, bean sprout kimchi, wakame, potato salad, watercress, tofu, fermented daikon. Fourth visit: Miso soup was alright, not too mealy. Japchae was pretty good, more beef mixed in than wood ear fungus. I prefer a thicker glass noodle but I'd get it again. Gochu pajeon wasn't too greasy or spicy, cooked to an appealing texture with light crisping. Dak gui was inconsistent to me, good seasoning but the some of the white meat was on the dry side. Bulgogi was outshone by the galbi, which was quite good despite being trimmed off the bone. Both were accompanied by a few halved button mushrooms, no garlic. The oranges cut up as a birthday dessert were of varying ripeness. Napa kimchi, potato salad, watercress, tofu, cucumber kimchi, scallion salad, savory radish w/shrooms. The meat in maeun galbitang is cut thick but tender, outshining the protein of yukgaejang. Despite sporting the same broth, the former came with less glass noodles and bits of egg white but no yolk. Kimchi mul mandu were flat-style, drizzled with sesame oil and served with a maraschino-garnished gritty salad on the side. Yukgaejang is okay. Overall winner is the boyangtang, tenderest goat meat I've had in awhile. For KBBQ, the Yechon galbi is worth doing; samgyeopsal and bulgogi are okay, I've had better elsewhere. read more

This is what a Korean BBQ should be. For an example of what it absolutely should not be, please reference my review for Honey Pig. As far as Korean goes in the Baltimore, DC, Virginia area, this is the best place that I can find. It's open 24 hours and the vibe that you'd expect from every good Korean place. The Banchan is excellent and quickly refilled.... you get a selection of at least 8 things and soup every time you go. The Kimchi is on point and the ojingeo bokkeum, aka spicy squid/my favorite dish is spicy and excellent every time. I also typically order a seafood or vegetable pancake, which here is the size of a large pizza. It's humongous and always great to have as leftovers for later. On the downside, the service is a bit hit or miss... I always feel like if I spoke fluent korean, I'd do better here, but I really can't complain about it, because it really is THE BEST place to go to get Korean in this region. There's also a great Korean bakery/coffee shop next door that is the perfect coupling with Yechon... you can go there to sit and think about how much food you just consumed over coffee and a variety of desserts. it had been a long time coming and it all happened on a totally random whim while driving along the lovely 495, in the midst of errands, when my wife feels a sudden pang for good old Korean food, which leads us to our El Dolrado.... Yechon. Now there is bul gogi and then there is Mom's bul gogi. no one is ever better than Mom's bul gogi - ever! i would never know as i don't dine on cow meat, much to my in-law's chagrin, but let me allow my lovely wife to explain the finer distinctions of bul gogi. here honey, take over..... Screw you! I HATE yelp!! umm, but without yelp, we would have never have found Yechon. well, ok. i just hate yelp while you are on yelp! moving along. this is the best bul gogi (that's shredded beef bbq for you non-Korean folk out there) that my wife that has had since she moved to DC 12 years ago and we have been to many Korean places in those 12 years. bul gogi is all about the seasoning and this place perfectly executed the beef marinade to all of its' succulent potency. along with the bul gogi, my wife ordered some kimchi jigae (a spicy hot bowl of pork and kimchi) that didn't knock your socks off with spice or flavor, but definitely hit the spot. as for myself, i ventured out to try the mae woon sae woo (a fried shrimp dish smothered in a tangy, spicy sauce). it was the first time i had ever tried this dish and the sauce reminded me a bit of the sauce that is used in make kang poong gi (tangy, spicy little chicken bones) that i have ordered from Woo Mi up in Wheaton. it was almost like a Korean version of a spicy sweet & sour Chinese sauce. needless to say, not a single shrimp was left on the plate. oh, before i forget - best. panchan. ever. there is nothing better than a myriad of crisp, variously seasoned vegetables. due to my daughter's love of noodles, we ordered her up a bowl of Japanese Udong, which she inhaled in the typical child gorge-fest. a momentary divergence - this place gets packed and most everyone who comes here, comes for the Korean food. why does this place feel the need to have the front of Korean/Japanese cuisine? pssst, Koreans. the white man is learning about your food. it's ok to have a restaurant that doesn't serve sushi. it is ok to market yourselves to other cultures and peoples. make good food and they will come. speaking of culture, the waitresses are decked out in the cutest of hanboks (traditional Korean dress) and are as friendly as Korean restaurant as i have ever been to. (that's right, i ended that sentence with a preposition) if you have children, please do not allow them to tap on the little buzzer on the table. that's is to used when you are ready to order your meal and summons the waitress over to your table. it should only take one buzz to figure it out. After 900+ reviews for Yechon, I'll sum it here: great food, spotty service, 24-hours, and they don't take reservations. We recently celebrated a friend's birthday, who was craving for Korean food (and not the buffet Iron Age or Honeypig style). There are limited "good" options in Maryland so we decided to venture out to Annandale, where there are plenty of options. Knowing Yechon's reputation, we decided to come here for an early Sunday dinner and even then there was a wait. The first thing you'll notice is like most Korean restaurants, your clothes and ultimately sweat will smell like cooked meat. Even if you decide not to get Korean BBQ, you'll definitely smell it from one of your neighbor's tables. Good luck getting a menu during peak hours, so you'll have to employ the ol' traditional Asian tactic, which is flag down anyone and everyone that works there (busboy included). Their portion sizes are fairly generous and any food that says "for two people," it's really for 3-4 people. So not knowing, we ordered an outrageous amount but still ended up finishing majority (what can I say, we loved the food). We ordered a seafood hot pot, bossam, seafood pancake and chicken fried rice - all were super good. I subtracted one star because their service was spotty, where we often couldn't flag anyone down or any requests take a good 10 minutes to get. They also didn't have oysters, like at all. No oysters for the bossam (shouldn't that be cheaper then?) or oyster pancake. That's a pretty big deal. Pro tip: Korean fried rice is unlike your Chinese and other style, it's definitely tasty. Pro tip II: there isn't a designated waiter/waitress, so embrace the Asian culture, take the initiative and flag down anyone who works there to place orders, extra napkins, extra bowls, ask questions, and get recommendation for dessert (Siroo is the place to go afterwards) read more

We were all exhausted, having spent the night conquering meth-head overdoses, narrowly escaping monsoon-related car crashes, and battling the forces of evil.* Unable to function, the only thing I craved was bed. However, my companions were champions. Determined to end the night properly, they insisted we embark on an adventure to Annandale. Wrapped delicately in lettuce leaves with a touch of bean paste, I would've eaten endless amounts of this deliciously marinated meat. We came around 7pm on a Friday night and only had to wait about 15 minutes. They were organized about the waitlist and handed all of us fancy buzzers. I am so glad we came when we did because right after we sat down, the place was packed to the brim and there were a lot of people waiting. The BF loves starting with the seafood pancake, I always order Galbi and he gets Brisket. We were informed that there was a min of 2 Brisket orders so we would have to forego the Galbi or just order too much meat. We went for the latter but were bummed about this meat rule. Everything was delicious! The pancake filled with seafood and perfectly crisp. Their bonchon is the best I have ever had - fresh and so many options. The Galbi and Brisket were not too fatty and perfectly cooked. The only thing missing was steamed egg to go with our rice. Subtracting a star because they don't take reservations, they don't cook Galbi in front of you, and because of the minimum 2 orders for Brisket. We also felt really rushed...is it possible to complain about food coming out too fast? Well here I go...our bonchon, apps, galbi and brisket all came out at the same time!
