On my way to Virginia from Maryland I decided to stop by Stupid Good BBQ for lunch on the day prior to Father's Day 2026. I do love the GAR brand. The place was very busy, which was good to see in these times. My daughters and I had the pull pork sandwiches, SG chicken salad, and some pork ribs. We had cornbread of course and sides were Mac & cheese, collard greens, pork & beans, and Cole slaw. We drinks and also had banana pudding to go. Everything was delicious the pulled pork was great and the girls added their favorite sauces. The ribs had the best smoke rings and were fall off the bone tender. They didn't need anything extra to help them. The chicken in the salad was moist and easy to cut. The salad was well balanced and delicious. The only thing I wish was on my salad was a boiled egg but that is personal preference. All the sides including the cornbread was flavorful and hit the spot with seasoning. Now it wasn't homemade but very good and worth the money for restaurant walk-in quality. The place even busy was also very clean and staff was working hard, very friendly and serviced us as soon as we walked in. The person running the from even asked for help at another register once three people were in line. Service being quality and as important as the quality of the food. I love me some BBQ & I love GAR group restaurants (Great American Restaurants for you non-locals lol), but this one was a bit of a disappointment, unfortunately. DEETS: This is a counter-service restaurant where you place your order with a cashier, and someone brings your food to your table when it's ready. SERVICE: We went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and it was not very busy at all, with maybe three tables occupied. There were several staff members behind the counter, but no one was paying attention to anything other than themselves or their phones, and they all had their backs to the entrance, oblivious. We waited & waited for someone to turn around, notice us, greet us, and be served. As for seating, we had only the option to sit at a table because all the open booths were dirty. The restrooms were not much better. After our food came out, they must have finally seen the mess because a couple of the crew members, including the chef, started cleaning up the tables. Great to finally see the place get cleaned, but the dining room should never have been in the condition it was in to begin with, especially with it so empty and the staff just standing around, oblivious, as if they had nothing to do... *sigh* & insert a big eyeroll! FOOD: Not surprisingly, the food was average because "you get what you give" and they obvi didn't give a.... We got a pulled pork and a prime brisket with coleslaw, and they were both a bit on the dry side and lacking flavor; nothing at all like the amazing pulled pork at their sister restaurants. The table had a cute wooden box holding a selection of sauces, but sadly, they all tasted pretty much the same. Tried Stupid Good BBQ in Springfield today, and it definitely reminded me of Mission BBQ. We tried the pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, potato salad, and chopped salad. My favorite was the chopped salad -- highly recommend! Hubby said his pulled pork sandwich was really good, but he wasn't a fan of the potato salad. I originally ordered the brisket sandwich, but some of the brisket pieces were hard. I mentioned it to the cashier, and she recommended trying the prime brisket instead. We have visited twice & ordered Thanksgiving for a family member although I was introduced when they catered a church lunch which really put them on my need to visit radar. Our visits were great, good food and amazing staff. The Thanksgiving option was a true blessing when we realized we had two parents who both had to stay at their respective homes and we would need to be separated. Thankfully we were visiting Stupid Good for the first time and saw the Thanksgiving option for a smaller group, such a blessing. In keeping with GAR tradition do not neglect the sides, fries, corn bread, & slaw were all memorably good. We enjoyed all the meat we have tried. Worth a visit. The venue is casual, think order at front, take number, & either have delivered or pick-up when number is called. Also great for take out or events. For the amount of money you pay the portions are small and they were out of every single meat option so if you are wanting BBQ meat, sorry you're lucked out.. It's only the options they have available for you. As for the meat itself it was tender, but the flavors are not there. Sadly you have to drench the sauces in the meat in order for it to actually be edible. The salad, sooo good. But guess what? Stupid Good BBQ is another great addition to the group of inspiring DMV smoked protein shops! Since it was my first time here, I tried their 2 proteins + 1 side combo with the choice brisket in chopped form and their smoked turkey plus the potato salad. The combo also includes a moist and tasteful corn bread square. The brisket was flavorful, moist and tender, and the smoked turkey had the right amount of smokiness and saltiness. I just wished the three slices of turkey were thicker or there was an additional 4th slice of turkey. As I stated earlier, I chose the potato salad as my side. It had the right amount of cook and the right amount of crunch, as well as a good cream texture and smooth taste over the whole salad. I would order this side again and again. We sat down and waited for our food which different take long. I ordered the Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken and Brisket. This came with two sides (Fries and Collard Greens) along with cornbread. The pulled pork was good. The chicken was different. I wish I had more brisket. For $27 I believe this is a good deal overall. The Collard Greens could have been better. A few of us stopped in for lunch to give this place, the most recent Great American Restaurant our first try. GAR restaurants are solid and know for their excellent customer service and their interesting menus, which they execute nearly perfectly every time. Operating a smokehouse isn't the same, as it takes a special type of chef to be a pitmaster and most "chefs" aren't pitmasters. That being said, I figured it would be tough for chain, even a local chain which is excellent to do a smokehouse. The majority of the reviews and comments in local foodie groups I reviewed weren't too positive about this place, but I needed to try it for myself. I got a sampling of proteins; prime brisket, turkey, ribs, and sausage. The brisket was easily the best - nice crust and smoke, while being tender. The next up were the ribs, as they were tender and nicely smoked. But the sausage was pretty bad, tasted too much like raw pork with a tough casing and hardly any smoke. Then the turkey was the worst... one person in my group said it had the taste and texture of the turkey you get in a Lunchable and as soon as he said that, it was immediately what I thought of, as it reminded me of the same thing. Really wasn't good at all. When it came to the sides, they were decent, with the beans being the best and the mac & cheese next up. The potatoes in the potato salad were too hard, not al dente, but harder. The cornbread was excellent though. Overall, the service and venue were nice, but the meat was too inconsistent. Decided to try this place after seeing it pop up on my TikTok. First impressions, really convenient location as parking is always one of my top things of whether I attempt to go somewhere or not. It was very clean inside and spacious. The staff were all very welcoming and able to give their personal recommendations of favorites whether it came to the food or the different sauces. Since we placed an order to go, I felt the time between placing the order and receiving the food was quite fast. So I ended up ordering the kids size pulled chicken sliders, chili, and the smashed potatoes . My partner ordered Mac and cheese and the ribs. Portion wise, I thought was pretty good. For the sauces we picked 3 (Texas Trails, Stupid Good BBQ, Kansas City) based on recommendation from staff. I think our favorite was Kansas City. The chili came with toppings (cheese, sour cream, purple onions, green onions) all separated for the to-go order. I thought the chili was okay. This is my new BBQ joint when I am in the Washington Metro Area. I really enjoyed my meal here. This restaurant is located in a strip mall with tons of parking available in the lot it shares with the other businesses in the mall. The entire staff there was very friendly and helpful. They serve your BBQ favorites including jalapeño sausage, ribs, pulled pork, brisket, pulled chicken and smoked turkey. They also have cole slaw, potato salad, corn bread, hand cut fries and green beans. They also have a limited selection of adult beverages available as well. I got the the chopped brisket sand which with a side of collard greens and a side of baked beans. My food was ready in about 5 minutes. It was very delicious. mmmmm. They have a selection of about 6 barbecue sauces at the tables and I tried them all. My sandwhich was full of flavor, cooked and seasoned perfectly. The collard greens were also good and tasted freshly picked. The baked beans are not your normal baked beans. They are home made. They are still delicious and had a lot of meat in them. I know that in most instances, if you didn't get any pictures, it didn't happen, but in this case I came after a long workout and the anticipation was too real for the camera to eat first since I'd been waiting so long to finally try Great American's first barbecue spot. Luckily I got the bread pudding which hit very hard by the end of my meal. The service was super speedy, friendly, and attentive as they walked down the aisles of tables to make sure they could tend to any customers if they needed anything or to put away their plates & utensils. The food was as you'd expect: delicious. However, for the price, wasn't so mind-blowing. While this is true, I did remind my friends that this is Great American so the standard is still a little higher than most places. Though they countered that the sauces all seemed similar in taste, I stood by my opinion that we all finished our food with no regrets. I won't lie though: I did cry a little to myself at the side dishes that are not included with your main meats since it's $20 for two depending on what you get. This is not a cheap date night spot but you could expect to like the food when you go, and the signature bread pudding was as I'd mentioned: delicious. Will come again but probably with some time. GAR's new BBQ concept did not disappoint! We initially planned to order the sliced brisket, but they were out and told us we'd have to wait for hours since they only serve it when it's perfectly moist. You can always count on GAR for that level of quality and service! We ended up with the "get smashed" brisket smash (topped with chopped brisket), smoked chicken salad sandwich, chili, and a side of mac & cheese. We decided to sprinkle the chili on top of the smashed potatoes and mac & cheese, and it was a winning combo! The chili was delicious, though a bit on the salty side. Greeted at order counter by very helpful, pleasant young lady explaining all my choices. They have an eclectic playlist, but they had Tems playing when I walked in; surprising since the "cowboy" decor indicated country music to me. Ribs come in your choice of rack: 1/3, 1/4, and whole. I got 4 MEATY bones in my 1/3 rack. Ribs come with their signature sauce, but there are a variety of sauces right at your table. Texas Trails is supposed to be spicy, I didn't find it so. Mac n cheese was pasta shells and lots of cheese. Greens were well-seasoned (with meat!) and delicious. Bread pudding (caramel AND vanilla sauce) was decadent and it is STUPID good! Everything is ala cart and I thought $32 was a bit much for lunch (especially without a drink). Stupid Good BBQ is located across the street from Mike's and a few doors down from Best Buns. Parking is plentiful. Walking in at around 2:30 there were open seats but a lot busier than I expected at that time. Not much of a line luckily. We ordered a Chili Mac, a Two Meat Plate with Sliced Brisket and Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage (plate just means comes with cornbread), Sweet Tea, and sides of Collard Greens, Baked Beans, and Fries. We picked our table and they called us up pretty quickly (about 5 minutes). Chili Mac wasn't too bad, good amount of chili and the Mac was decent. The plate was a little underwhelming size wise for $19 but the flavor of the brisket and sausage were good. Both fairly juicy and great smoky flavor. The cornbread was cold and didn't taste like much. The sides were of a good size and both solid, especially the beans. They had a lot of meat in the baked beans. For our second visit, we came on a Sunday around 2 PM and it was even more packed. We were able to secure a three tables next to each other. We tried the ribs and the chili loaded smashed potato. Ribs were very tender and meaty, the potato was decent. Big portion though. The restaurant itself was pretty big and had plenty of seating and they have a bunch of TVs around which is a plus. I'm super picky when it comes to BBQ. Most places either have good meats and bad sauces. Stupid Good has fantastic sauces and it is the best BBQ I've had in Virginia so far. When I first read the reviews for this place, every review mentioned how amazing Justin was. When I walked in, I met the tall young manager and I found out why. He's a true gentleman of southern hospitality. He's charismatic and honest. It's obvious that he loves his job and he loves taking care of his customers. He introduced me to the Kansas City BBQ sauce (That stuff is ridiculously addictive for those of us who like sweet with a little bit of heat), which tastes good on just about everything. I bought a bottle for home use. The spare ribs are my favorite. I've tried their other meats and I always regret it if I don't ask for either a center or end cut of ribs. I think most of the negative reviews here don't realize how amenable this place is to the point where, if you want fattier or less fatty, or anything else, just ask and they'll most likely accommodate you. That's what I do and they always accommodate me. By the way, Autumn and Tori always take great care of me, every time I visit. If you treat them respectfully, you'll have a great experience. They embody the spirit of this place and are always wonderful to be the first people here I see. As for sides, I'm a huge fan of their hand cut fries. And their collard greens are pretty epic, which is impressive since I'm usually not a fan of collard greens. The place is very clean and the people who work here take really good care of both their customers (me!) and their restaurant. The place is very clean. Ordering and picking up are in the same general area so it made things chaotic since the place was busy. The chopped brisket was smokey, tender and moist. I will definitely order this again. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was good but was not as impressed as the brisket. I saw many people with ribs and they looked very good. The sides were fine just wasn't anything exciting. They do have homemade pickles which we forgot to try. Sad!! We upgraded the meats for $9 and got 2 pieces of each (total) and some shredded BBQ Chicken. Total cost $41.80. We each shared one fork full of coleslaw and the same for the Potato Salad. They didn't have any Prime Brisket left when I went, but the Choice Brisket was moist, had a smokey flavor and properly smoked. Sauce not required, but they have many options. The Ribs didn't fall apart the right way, but was cooked well and had a nice smokey flavor as well. The Chilli Mac was large enough to be it's own meal. But, unfortunately, I walked away disappointed. Dry, dry, dry. Yup, not sure if I came on a bad day, but most of the meats were dry. I purposely got a 3 meat platter to taste various options. The brisket and ribs were quite dry. But the sausage was good. With regard to the sides, the baked beans were amazingly good, but the potato salad just average.
