They didn't have any Prime Brisket left when I went, but the Choice Brisket was moist, had a smokey flavor and properly smoked. Sauce not required, but they have many options. The Ribs didn't fall apart the right way, but was cooked well and had a nice smokey flavor as well. The Chilli Mac was large enough to be it's own meal. I am a big GAR fan. I have tasted food from their various restaurants several times and it has always tasted amazing ... and delivered with great service. So trying this place was a must. But, unfortunately, I walked away disappointed. Dry, dry, dry. Yup, not sure if I came on a bad day, but most of the meats were dry. I purposely got a 3 meat platter to taste various options. The brisket and ribs were quite dry. But the sausage was good. With regard to the sides, the baked beans were amazingly good, but the potato salad just average. Stupid Good BBQ is part of the Great American Restaurant Chain. The food is really good but, when we ordered the 3 mains and 2 sides what we got could barely feed 2 people. Please see picture below. We upgraded the meats for $9 and got 2 pieces of each (total) and some shredded BBQ Chicken. Total cost $41.80. We each shared one fork full of coleslaw and the same for the Potato Salad. I had my first Stupid Good BBQ experience this past week and boy, was it good! First rate tender, juicy and flavorful barbeque chicken-so good, I wish I had ordered more! The ribs were fall off the bone tender, a definite plus in my book. My sides included super fresh cole slaw and hand-cut fries that were home-grown delicious. I admit that I'm not a fan of cornbread, but the cornbread was delicious; sweet but not too sweet, light and moist, definitely worth it. The sweet tea and lemonade put the experience over the top. The staff was very friendly and very interested in giving us diners a top experience. The space is clean, spacious and welcoming so that you want to come back to enjoy it again. Checked this spot out last month on a Friday night (around 9:15 pm) a couple of days or so after it first opened. Pretty good food, though sorry to say that I don't think it was up to par with the other restaurants in the Great American Restaurants franchise. So Stupid Good BBQ is actually across the street from one of the more popular Great American Restaurants, Mike's American Grill (next to the Planet Fitness off Backlick Road). That's in addition to another Great American Restaurant (Best Buns) that's located in the same shopping center complex just a few doors down. Walked in and assumed I'd be seated, but apparently you have to wait in line and order/pay for the food at the counter first (so this isn't a restaurant where a waiter takes your order at the table). But the restaurant wasn't busy that night so didn't long at all (less than 5 minutes) to get through the line and place my order. Restaurant was less than half full and it appeared to be open seating so just picked an open table. Food only took 7-10 minutes or so to come out, which wasn't bad at all. I ordered the Creekstone Farms® prime brisket ($19), a side of mac and cheese ($5), and a cup of water ($0). Stupid Good BBQ has a fountain soda system, which is where I filled my cup of water. They serve beer here, which seemed reasonably priced from $4 to $8. The only draft beer they had here was Shiner Brock ($5 glass, $18 pitcher). A limited selection of cocktails, liquor, and wine are also available here, also at very reasonable prices (from $5 to $8). When I received my order I was provided a fork but they didn't give me a knife or the free cornbread that's supposed to come with the order; I had to go back to the counter to ask for it. But this wasn't a big deal - all the people who worked there seemed helpful and friendly. I thought the prime brisket was extremely solid. Very good, though wouldn't put it up there with the best I've had in the DMV. One thing that irked me is they didn't have any spicy sauces available, which IMO is an absolute must for any elite BBQ restaurant. I asked one server what the spiciest sauce they had available was, which she said was the Carolina BBQ, but that sauce was very far from "spicy". So I asked another server what their spiciest sauce was; she responded that they don't really have anything too spicy, but that I could try a BBQ sauce not listed on their menu called "Texas Trails" that to her was the spiciest sauce they had. That sauce did have a little kick to it, but wasn't all that spicy either. So was definitely disappointed this restaurant didn't have a true "spicy" sauce. The mac and cheese (which came in the form of gooey shells) I thought was good, though nothing special. Stupid Good BBQ also has a small dessert menu of chocolate bourbon pecan pie and bread pudding, which are made at an affiliated Best Buns restaurant a few doors down from this restaurant. Stupid Good BBQ does have 3 TVs, though this wouldn't be an ideal place to watch sports, especially since they didn't seem to have a bar area. All-in-all, this is a good restaurant, though I definitely wouldn't put it up there with elite BBQ spots in the DMV like 2Fifty and Monk's. Also thought the food was a bit pricy for what it was, though the drink prices I think are pretty reasonable. Expected more given the affiliation with the Great American Restaurants but I'd still rate it as a spot worth checking out. Would grade it in the 3.75 or 3.5 range but rounded up to 4 due to the friendly customer service and because the main prime brisket dish I ate was actually a really solid dish. Will be back again sometime in the future though don't think I'd be making this a regular spot. read more

Finally - real southern slow smoked barbecue that actually tastes wonderful! All the smoked meats are tender, juicy and full of smoky labor! And the smoked Wagyu brisket (Saturday only) is the best we have ever tasted. To finish's it off, the banana pudding is full of banana chunks. We are definitely coming back! read more

Loved our dinner at the newly opened Stupid Good BBQ! That area needed a good bbq spot and this place checked all the boxes! We tried the meat trio (brisket - ribs - sausage) and brisket was SO juicy! Ribs came off the bone and jalapeño cheddar sausage was so delicious! We also tried the pulled pork smash - must have! I think the chili mac is the sleeper! It is only $9 and delicious warm bowl of deliciousness! Alcohol is also served. The bread pudding is absolutely phenomenal- save room for dessert! Let's get right to it! Ribs 10/10!!! - Smoky, mystic, seasoned to perfection! Falling off the bone and no sauce needed! They were the show stopper and absolutely delicious!!!! Chopped Brisket- 7/10 Wasn't mad at it, it was solid. A tad dry and no fat, and I'm a fatty kind of girl. Lol I've had better. Baked Beans 8/10 - There's meat, they are saucy, theirs ALOT of flavor! Sweet but not overpowering. Cole Slaw 6/10 - Slightly sweet & tangy. Typical mix, heavy on the red cabbage, the Mikes version is better. Greens 7/10 - Nicely flavored, alittle bit of meat. Not to bad although had a lot of stems, and not a lot collards. Fries 7/10 - was hoping there was the same as the others restaurants but not, they were a lot thicker in shaper, alittle disappointing that with as busy it was, they were luke warm, but decent. Cornbread - served cold which was a bit surprising, nice balance of sweetness; solid. I asked was that intentional and was told yes. Should definitely offer both options and see which one is the fan fav. Overall ambiance is pleasant, staff super friendly. It was extremely busy but they were working thru it efficiently. The longest wait was getting your food but not frustrating wait. There's a lot of seating but fills up really quick. I was almost close to not finding a seat, but a nice lady saw me searching and offered me one. The prices all al a cart and reasonable. We're glad to have another great American restaurant in town! Went on opening night, so of course will update if I go back when it's less crowded. I was not overly impressed with the menu as it seems like you pretty much had to order a la carte for everything. I saw one meal deal where you could add a side and drink for $7, but I'm not a soda drinker, so it seemd like a losing deal for me. Seems like the salads and smashed potatoes are where the most bang for your buck is. Tried the potato with chili and it was yummy. I was surprised at how little meat was served for the two meet option which cost $19. It came with a small piece of cornbread, but that was it, so with additional sides to round out the meal it was about $30. I feel like I could have gone to Mike's and gotten a similar amount of food for less money and full table service. I think you're paying for the experience at Stupid Good, which is fine if fast casual bbq is uour thing. My husband was very impressed with the brisket. I thought everything was good, but after paying $50, and not being super full, I think I'd rather have gone to a different spot. Also, the mac and cheese didn't stand out to me as anything special. It had Velveeta vibes and was good, but not really crave-worthy. The ribs were tender and had a lovely smoked flavor, which was accompanied by the peach bbq sauce. The sausage was also delicious and much better than other bbq places nearby. Not a fan of the shell mac n cheese, with a sauce that was reminiscent of a queso. Still tasty. The collard greens also had thick stems, which meant they had to be cooked longer to make soft and affected the leaf portion. So the flavor was good, but a bit soft in texture. Came tonight with high hopes, but negatives outweighed the positives. The good: the cornbread was very nice, light and sweet. Sauces were also good--we liked the Stupid Good and BSB best. Collards also had a lot of flavor, very traditional. The mid: cheddar sausage had good flavor but was mushy and very rich. The bad: all meats lacked flavor. Brisket was either super dry or super fatty, nothing in the sweet spot. Mac and cheese was soupy, green beans were undercooked and oddly flavored. And it's really expensive! Combo meals don't come with sides and sides are not shareable. I'm happy to pay for and travel to good bbq (looking at you 2Fifty), but this has a long way to go. A new addition to the Great American restaurant chain which we've always enjoyed - this location serves BBQ and is different as you order and pay for your food at a cashier. You find a table to sit and wait for your name to be called to get your food. The BBQ is good and there are six different sauces at the table to enjoy. Ordered the rack of ribs which were good. The pulled pork and brisket were also good. The cheddar sausage was okay. Dishes come served with cornbread and you can order sides. The collard greens and baked beans come with meat. Hate to play the race victim card but there were servers coming around asking about the food and asking if folks need anything. We saw four separate servers coming around but they seem to make a concerted effort to avoid the Asian table. Deducting a point for that. Let me start by saying. I am a diehard GAR Fanboy. I've never had food at any of their establishments that I didn't like. Until now. At the time of this writing XMAS & NYE just passed. And the meat flavor profile on the ribs and brisket must still be on Vacation. Because they weren't present for this meal. I was utterly shocked by that. Across the street at Mikes a full rack of ribs and sides blows SGB away. Hands down. These ribs aren't even in the galaxy imo. And for the cost, I've had better BBQ for nearly half the cost. Small brisket portions and mediocre Mac & cheese was the straw. Ribs were just ok but lack the proper flavor profile. The only shining star was the collards. With that all said GAR may have to revisit some things or change the name. ATM the only things stupid here are over priced food and small portions. While the DMV isn't a BBQ/Smoke meats meca. We are an area made up of implants from all over the USA. And those who know BBQ have posted up many local spots that are killing the BBQ PIT game. And doing so with great value and exciting menus filled with robust flavors. At this time I can't see myself returning to SGB before driving out of my way to revisit and enjoy the local competitions BBQ PIT. My mother didn't like that it was a counter service. That said, she also didn't like the fattiness of the brisket. She also thought it was not warm. She asked for warm lean brisket and we received that, but to her taste it was too done. (I realize this is counter intuitive it just relating her comments) I later tried the brisket and found it to be great, and I usually don't enjoy brisket. I think this place has a good ambiance for a low key bbq place and the food is average. For good value, I recommend the smashed potato topped with your meat of choice. First off, I'm a HUGE Great American fan and I was very excited to try this place. The first thing I noticed when I walked in is the place is very clean and reminds me of the backyard barbecue. Also it smells great. I spoke to a few of the people who work there because I had questions about the menu, and everybody was super nice and helpful. I went with the three meat option because I'm indecisive lol. I got the turkey, the pulled chicken, and the prime brisket. Meals come with cornbread, so that's cool. I also got a side of fries and mac & cheese. OK so let's go through the meats. The turkey was tender and had a good flavor. The chicken was good (nothing special) and the prime brisket was good but not the best I've had (this was the main item I wanted to try). The mac & cheese was horrible. I asked beforehand if there was real cheese included and they said there was so that's good, but I did not care for the taste and could only get through 2 noodles. It was on the dry side, not seasoned, and not as done as it should have been. Cheese just wasn't good. Plus, it's topped with some sort of garlic croutons/breadcrumbs and that's just a huge no. That addition made it even worse. I couldn't stand more than a couple small bites and had to take it back for fries which are really good. When I returned the item, the manager was very nice and quick with the substitute. Overall, I actually would've given another star, if there had been some sort of meatless (pea based protein) or pescatarian option. I love the salmon that is on the menu at all of the other Great American restaurants and it was a huge disappointment not to have a BBQ salmon option at this barbecue joint. I feel the menu is simple, which is good but it's a little TOO restricted, especially for those of us who try to enjoy good food while eating healthier. Another example: there are entrée salads on the menu, but no side salads. The collard greens and green beans both have pork in them, so I had no option for a green vegetable for my order since I do not eat pork. I wish they had some healthier options while keeping the barbecue theme. This is a good start, but I hope they expand the menu a bit and get rid of that horrid mac and cheese ASAP and get someone who knows how to cook it. If I see some positive changes advertised, I'd try again. Otherwise, I'll stick to the other restaurants in this brand or go to another barbecue place when I want some. read more

Stupid Mid BBQ. First, let me say I've a loyal Great American Restaurants fan. I've visited every one of them. They set a high standard for both food and service. Unfortunately, they missed the mark on this new theme. I had the prime brisket sandwich, which was chunks of brisket - a bit toothy, and no obvious use of smoke - covered in a very sweet sauce. The potato salad was good - mustard and Mayo base with plenty of texture. Pros: - Atmosphere - clean and casual. Very nice. - Service - friendly and attentive staff. As good as any restaurant in the GAR universe. Cons: - No descernable use of smoke. This is a show stopper for me. Even the restaurant smells sterile. Seems like all the BBQ is coming out of an oven. Game over. - Price. The prime brisket sandwich at $19 and for that, it's just the sandwich. Drinks and sides are extra. At the end of the day, two sandwiches, one side and one drink came to nearly $50. Insanity. This new brand had so much potential, but for me, it's a fail. The food is edible, even decent if you are just looking for a meal, but it's not BBQ. If management is reading this review - get yourself out to Monks in Purcelleville. Take notes. Stopped by Stupid Good BBQ and overall had a great experience. I ordered the prime brisket and asked for the moist cut--while it still came out a bit on the dry side, the flavor was solid and really came alive with their variety of BBQ sauces. Each sauce had its own unique character, and they elevated the meat nicely. The spare ribs were tender and flavorful, and the BBQ chicken salad was surprisingly satisfying--nice smoky chicken. For sides, I went with baked beans and potato salad. Both were solid, the beans were unique with pulled pork mixed in. Service was quick and friendly, and the vibe was laid back. Made an account just to share how amazing this place is. First, the service is amazing! Everyone is so sweet and helpful, it was good vibes all around. Second, love the design and atmosphere from lighting to seating. It's a lot more casual than the usual Great American Restaurants like using metal trays instead of plates. Fast casual dining done in a way that still feels like GAR if that makes sense. Third, the food?? Oh my gosh it's amazing and I've only had four dishes so far. Favorite for sure is the brisket smashed baked potatoes which was cooked to perfection. I got the combo with the mac and cheese side - pour some Stupid Good bbq sauce over that and bam you got something magical. Only notes: bring wet wipes or something other than dry paper towels to wipe your hands!! It gets messy and sticky eating those sandwiches. And I do wish the sides could be a bit bigger.
