On my way to Virginia from Maryland I decided to stop by Stupid Good BBQ for lunch on the day prior…read moreto Father's Day 2026. I do love the GAR brand. The place was very busy, which was good to see in these times. My daughters and I had the pull pork sandwiches, SG chicken salad, and some pork ribs. We had cornbread of course and sides were Mac & cheese, collard greens, pork & beans, and Cole slaw. We drinks and also had banana pudding to go. Everything was delicious the pulled pork was great and the girls added their favorite sauces. The ribs had the best smoke rings and were fall off the bone tender. They didn't need anything extra to help them. The chicken in the salad was moist and easy to cut. The salad was well balanced and delicious. The only thing I wish was on my salad was a boiled egg but that is personal preference. All the sides including the cornbread was flavorful and hit the spot with seasoning. Now it wasn't homemade but very good and worth the money for restaurant walk-in quality. The place even busy was also very clean and staff was working hard, very friendly and serviced us as soon as we walked in. The person running the from even asked for help at another register once three people were in line. Service being quality and as important as the quality of the food. A++ and 10 with two snaps in a circle. Go and enjoy.

I love me some BBQ & I love GAR group restaurants (Great American Restaurants for you non-locals…read morelol), but this one was a bit of a disappointment, unfortunately. DEETS: This is a counter-service restaurant where you place your order with a cashier, and someone brings your food to your table when it's ready. SERVICE: We went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and it was not very busy at all, with maybe three tables occupied. There were several staff members behind the counter, but no one was paying attention to anything other than themselves or their phones, and they all had their backs to the entrance, oblivious. We waited & waited for someone to turn around, notice us, greet us, and be served. As for seating, we had only the option to sit at a table because all the open booths were dirty. The restrooms were not much better. After our food came out, they must have finally seen the mess because a couple of the crew members, including the chef, started cleaning up the tables. Great to finally see the place get cleaned, but the dining room should never have been in the condition it was in to begin with, especially with it so empty and the staff just standing around, oblivious, as if they had nothing to do... *sigh* & insert a big eyeroll! FOOD: Not surprisingly, the food was average because "you get what you give" and they obvi didn't give a.... We got a pulled pork and a prime brisket with coleslaw, and they were both a bit on the dry side and lacking flavor; nothing at all like the amazing pulled pork at their sister restaurants. The table had a cute wooden box holding a selection of sauces, but sadly, they all tasted pretty much the same. Surprise! lol As always, peeps, support your local small biz, and yes, I would possibly give them a second chance because I do love GAR concepts, but if I do go back, it won't be back anytime soon, or I may not go back at all and stick with my faves of their concepts that I love and know they work, i.e., Patsy's, Silverado, & Sweetwater. 5/31/26

My friend grew up in Nova, and his favorite KBBQ is Makchang Dodook. He says it's the best for AYCE…read morein terms of quality and price. I've never heard of this spot before, and you typically will not find me in Springfield. However, a few of us made lunch plans this past Good Friday to take advantage of the $29.99 AYCE weekday lunch pricing. We got three rounds of beef brisket (chadol), one thin & thick pork belly (samgyupsal) each, and half an order of large intestine (daechang). The chadol was a little too fatty than I'd like, but it was high quality and comparable to non-AYCE options like Meokja Meokja. I didn't love the thin samgyupsal as much, but the thick version was so meaty and juicy. The intestines were a fatty treat, and I was good with just a couple bites. We had to ask for ssamjang and sesame oil for sauces, which they were generous with giving. Our server was pretty attentive, but we thought it was weird that he cooked the thin samgyupsal and the beef brisket at the same time. As for sides, we asked for lots of them (sadly our corn cheese never came). The fermented soybean stew was strong, but a bit too salty at the end. The egg bomb was fluffy and delicious. They also have ramen (aka shin ramen) which we enjoyed by adding several pieces of chadol and letting it soak in there to get that deep meaty flavor. I enjoyed the kimchi throughout the meal, which was the perfect "not quite fresh, but still crunchy" texture. Overall, we ate to our heart's content. I definitely would be back for more chadol, thick samgypsal, and a bit of daechang in the future. The $30 pricing is a steal for the amount of food we got, but I'd hesitate to pay for the $40 dinner price. I don't eat enough at AYCE spots to get my money's worth, so I would rather spend that $40 at a non-AYCE spot for higher quality cuts like galbi and rib tips.

They even come to my worksite and have done onsite catering which was really fun and a nice break from regular cafeteria food. The food is fresh, fast and top quality. I adore the baby back ribs, the pulled pork, pulled chicken and jalapeño cheddar sausage are to die for. If you dine in- they have 6 sauces to choose from to add to your sandwich or fries. They also offer butter and honey for your cornbread. It's a spacious restaurant and every table has napkin rolls/ sauces and they are very prompt cleaning tables. They have a nice semi-private side room for special occasions. This is a very appreciative restaurant towards military/police/ fire/ emergency medical response services. Being in a military family- we have always appreciated how much this restaurant does for the military community. You can choose to buy a plastic cup when you order your food; and some of the proceeds go towards a veteran program. This is the place where you can bring the family or dine alone. I encourage everyone to try it in person so you can try all of the sauces. The vinegar mustard is amazing with fries!

I would have loved to be seated next the the staircase because it has some nice sight lines. The restaurant is so clean and nicely decorated as if you stepped into a homey yet lux cabin restaurant. It just feels....comforting. There were a lot of people dining here but the noise level was surprisingly minimal. The service is impeccable. Every waiter was attentive. Someone even asked us if we wanted another drink when our glasses were full. Never in my life has that happen to me. Lol The server was very knowledgeable about everything and left me to decided between all the wonderful options they offer. And they have OPTIONS. I heard the steak is banging. I'll be back... Now let's talk about these Ozzie dinner rolls. Bomb! End of story. And in my Nike voice....Just do it. In other words stuff your face and get some to go. The attached video is literally from the aftermath. After finishing my first plate, I asked where the food was from and was shocked when they said Jammin Island BBQ in Springfield Mall. I immediately remembered my old review. This experience was completely different. The curry chicken was tender and delicious, the jerk chicken was moist and tender with just the right amount of spice, the rice and peas were delicious, the cabbage was flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the plantains were on point! I can't speak to whether the difference was because this was catering or simply how much has changed over the years, but I was very impressed with everything I tried. I'm glad I got a chance to experience Jammin Island BBQ again, especially without even realizing it!
