DC's southern food in general leaves much to be desired and is about as authentic as a snowman in Florida so I was a little skeptical about this truck. I have to say this place totally exceeded my expectations. You order an entree and it comes with your choice of two sides for around $12-13 which is expensive for a truck but you get a ton of food. The oven fried pork chop is really baked not fried so don't expect a breaded chop. Instead you get a large bone in lean chop with tasty seasoning and they manage to cook it just right so it isn't too dry. The collard green sides and peach cobbler are both amazing as well. The citrus iced tea is worth a try as well. I think they change the menu every week so I'll be back to try some other items. Glad I tried this place and I'll be sure to get it again. read more

I'm generally not a fan of food trucks the experience is good but the actual quality of the food is usually hit or miss, but Ada's Kitchen on Wheels definitely falls in the hit category. They made a stop near my office a few weeks back and I ordered their southern seasoned fried chicken strips, tomato and cucumber salad, and their lip smackin Mac & cheese which were all quite delicious. The strips were evenly fried and not overly greasy, the cucumber salad tasted pretty fresh and wasn't over saturated with a vinegar dressing like a lot of those types of salads usually are made. As for the Mac and cheese it was pretty solid having a nice combination of cheeses with a good consistency not runny and all over the place (which is how good Mac and cheese should be). Try the mac n'cheese. Eat all the bread pudding. Now tell me that wasn't a religious experience. Can I get an AMEN!?!!! As soon as I saw the menu, I knew I was going to have Ada's for lunch. The problem was trying to narrow down what I wanted as my main. I knew the sides (mac n cheese and bread pudding) were going to be amazing because of the three C's: 1) carbs 2) cheese 3) caramel. But I had a much harder time picking out my entree: chicken potpie on biscuit, some kind of beef, and smothered pork chop. I'm filipino. So, pork it is. Sadly, the porkchop was completely and utterly outshined by the sides: the chop was a little dry - maybe if there was more smothering going on? Add some of that smother to the order? I don't know. I mean, the chop was tasty, but when you're going against that magical mac n'cheese and the mind blowing bread pudding, you gotta bring your A game. The chop was just a B. I had the catfish platter with greens, mac-n-cheese and hush puppies. First I took a pinch of fish without any meat, just crispy edge. Delicious batter coating made me say somethin'somthin'! Fish was cooked perfectly. Golden brown and sweet meat. She gave me some hot sauce and I was scared to put it on cause I thought I might mess it up. Then the creamy "m-n-c! Again delicious! On to the greens. Again, most wonderful! The hush puppies were all that a hush puppy should be. Crispy outside with just a hint of cornbread. Cried when I ate the last one. An excellent value. Next time she comes to our park I will order catfish platter to go and try another menu item. As I checked around with others and their meal they seemed to be equally pleased. For me a 3 Star rating is a satisfying experience and worth the stop. 5 stars I reserve for unique dining experiences and I've only given one to the champion @bobrookscrabhouse! If this was a sit down with some sweet tea In a mason jar overlooking the bayou or some other beautiful view I'd give 5 stars. I think they didn't expect the good turnout they had. I will say if you run out of food then shut it down or manage to have a reserve to address the demand. Invited to park and serve near our office, I believe the Ada food truck underestimated the business potential surrounding the area. They ran out of one of their main entrees within 1 hour of service. Thank goodness I was able to get the last one (sorry other guests). I would have been just as irritated and angry if I stood in line for 20 minutes roasting under the sun and humidity, only to find what I wanted to be sold out. All the blame can't be placed on them though. I believe a couple other food trucks would have benefitted everyone, as it would have dispersed the long lines and offered variety. As for the food. I went straight for the soul of southern comfort food, some southern fried catfish with hush puppies, collard greens, and mac and cheese! Catfish: Fried well, crispy on the outside, hot and fresh off the fryer, and moist. Mac & Cheese: Tasty Collard Greens: Too salty for me. Believe it's made with pork, but not sure if that would explain why it was too salty. Hush Puppies: Fried well, but mainly breading. Had some corn mixed in. Bottom Line: Had I not been committed (since I had already stood in line for so long), I would have opted for something different. Ada's came to my workplace for lunch recently and I was very happy! Many of us got a main with two sides. The main offerings were chicken (fried or bake), salmon cake, and pulled pork. The sides offered were green beans, mac n cheese, a corn/tomatoes/avocado salad, and a couple others I can't remember. I went with Baked chicken - moist, well seasoned Mac m cheese - rich, cheesy. I think many food trucks will make a tasteless Mac m cheese but this was a legit indulgence. Soul Food to go! I'm picky about my soul food, but this is a fantastic food truck. Auntie approved, and validated for the cook-out. The Mac and Cheese (baked, as it should be) made a strong showing, fried chicken was solid, sweet cornbread was moist. I would select green beans over the collard greens, which were mixed the cabbage. Novel, but not traditional. As with all food trucks, everything is best eaten hot and fresh. Food: I had the pulled pork on mac. I assumed it was a sandwich, but alas it wasn't :( The mac was good as was the pork, the sauce was probably the best part. Considering portion size $5 was perfect. I originally ordered the chicken biscuit but they ran out, thank God. So full disclosure, I was at a food truck event and the line was SUPER long and service was that much slower. Lines were long at all of the trucks to be honest. I didn't want the biscuit once the lady at the truck couldn't tell me how the biscuits were made. I asked "are they out the can?" she said "no but they're like the fluffy Pillsbury biscuits" my reply "those are out of the can. Are they bisquick?" her response "no". Someone who can't tell you how the food is made, shouldn't be working at the truck, just my opinion. Now anywho, luckily they ran out of chicken so my friend and I switched our order and shared the mac + pork. All in all, the food was good, but I wouldn't be in a rush to find them and return, but I'm a little picky when it comes to my soul food. I don't believe in canned biscuits. I've been q bit picky about take out ever since the quarantine, some foods just don't carry out well, but this was so delicious it just instantly put me in a good mood! I haven't reviewed a food truck before because most of what I've had in the downtown Washington, DC trucks have been either so-so pizza or middlin' Korean tacos. When it comes to Ada's Kitchen, though, the other reviews on this page aren't an exaggeration. This truck delivers an outstanding lunch at a great value. Platters go for $12 with an entree and two sides. I ordered the chicken n' biscuit with honey and hot sauce. The meal consists of two perfectly-cooked and good sized chicken breast pieces with just the right mix of hot and sweet. (The other two entrees available that day were fried tilapia and a pineapple jalapeno pork chop.) My accompaniments were french fries with a nice level of saltiness and cole slaw. The cole slaw, which was a little tasteless, was the only slight blemish on the meal. I would have gone with the homemade peach cobbler, but the truck had sold out all portions by 1:15, an indicator of how good it is. My only criticism of Ada's Kitchen is that it's not stationed in downtown DC more frequently. If she comes here more often, I'll petition Yelp for a special six-star review option. read more

I was thrilled when I heard that food trucks got permission to start vending on Tuesdays near my working place. Unfortunately, the first week they showed up I was out of town, and the second week only one truck was serving lunch and the lines were ridiculous. Third time was the charm this past week, and it was a perfect day to get a truck-lunch. Which is to say that I went really early, three trucks showed up, and it was raining - excellent conditions for no wait. I decided to give Ada's Kitchen on Wheels a try, as I had already had food from the other trucks at various points in the past. I got the chicken and biscuits, with a sweet potato pie and collard greens as sides ($12). The collards (with cabbage and pork mixed in) were a little on the salty side, but had a decent flavor. The chicken and biscuits were amazing - the chicken was fried perfectly, the biscuits were fluffy, and the honey-bbq sauce combination was delicious. The mini sweet potato pie was good too - flaky crust, and a great way to finish off the meal. I'm not sure what I was thinking ordering collard greens with chicken and biscuits since they don't pair together very well, but the chicken and biscuits and pie each get two thumbs up from me, and I think the collards would go very well with some of their other main dish options. Tip-top food, fair prices, and on a side (heh heh) note, I really like how Ada's gives you the option to get desserts as a side...most other places have less interesting options and/or sell their desserts separately. Probably the best food truck lunch I've ever had. I got a couple of fried chicken biscuit sandwiches with barbecue sauce and honey. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the biscuits were also delicious. They put a perfect amount of chicken between the two biscuits, which allowed the small sandwiches to hold up well while still having plenty of meat in between them. With a platter, you get two sides and I was very satisfied with the mac and cheese and green beans. The mac and cheese had an excellent flavor and it was quite rich, as mac tends to be (I wasn't able to finish). Altogether, my lunch was $12, which is on the pricier end of what I'm willing to pay for a workday lunch but the portions were very generous. Ada's food was well made and pretty flavorful, but they definitely have some execution issues to work on. They ran out of one of their three mains at noon, and I waited in line for 30 minutes and they still hadn't physically crossed it off the menu, so people continued to wait in line and get to the front and find out that they couldn't have what they'd waited for. Which is just inconsiderate. Also, I got the chicken and waffle sandwich with the "sriracha syrup" which sounded great, but was 100% indiscernible. I had assumed they just forgot it, but my coworker's lunch was exactly the same. Chicken was well cooked, but the result was super boring. Very good! We had the opportunity to try Ada's at an event & we enjoyed everything we tried. Mac & Cheese - homemade taste & much cheesier, than the pictures someone posted, show. Pulled pork sandwiches - cleaned our plates! Very good flavor, not over cooked & juicy. Buns were moist. Would definitely order again! Chicken Fingers - my picky daughter loved them & could only finish 1, they were a good size. We also tried them & we all would have ordered them to share along with our sandwiches had we known how good they were. Unfortunately, they were out of onion rings & fries so mac & cheese was the only side we tried. Desserts - Pound Cake = amazing & I believe had almond, but just a little. It was almost as good as mine! ;) Pumpkin Cupcake w Cream Cheese Frosting - moist, just enough spice & the frosting was not overwhelming but a perfect balance. Rice Krispie Treat - thought my son made a bad choice but it was quite good. Looked dry but it was moist & had little chocolate flecks in it. Oh man, this food was delicious AF. I suspect the selection changes every day like most trucks. Today's offerings were fried catfish with hush puppies, fried chicken and biscuits (and a third option I forgot already). I opted for the fried chicken which is two medium size breaded pieces atop a biscuit each, with honey and their homemade BBQ. For sides I went with their mac and cheese and their corn/avocado/tomato salad with lime dressing. I'm usually all about the mac, but the chicken is what really shined here. Perfectly cooked, breading was delicious, sauce was even better. Sides were also very enjoyable. It's a lot of food; this could easily be turned into two meals with some delicious chicken and biscuits leftover for breakfast tomorrow. Staff was super friendly as well. Only downsides I'd mention is it took longer than most trucks to prepare the food, and the prices were a little steep compared to other trucks ($12 for the entree with two sides). First time trying this truck and definitely WON'T be my last! WOW...is all I can say!! Their Fried Chicken on a Biscuit was amazing! Chicken was perfectly fried, had a nice crunch and best of all, super juicy inside! Biscuit was fluffy and buttery and combined with honey and bbq sauce was a perfect blend of sweet and tangy. The BBQ sauce did not overpower the chicken. Lip Smackin' Mac & Cheese lived up to its name...so rich and creamy and smooth! Peach Cobbler was pretty darn good too! Their website says "Each mouth-watering bite of Ada's cuisine promises to comfort the soul and have you yearning for more". This is very true...each bite made me want more!
