Bread pudding, mac n cheese and smothered pork chop. UNNNGH, y'all.
Lor B.

Try the mac n'cheese. Eat all the bread pudding. Now tell me that wasn't a religious experience. Can I get an AMEN!?!!! As soon as I saw the menu, I knew I was going to have Ada's for lunch. The problem was trying to narrow down what I wanted as my main. I knew the sides (mac n cheese and bread pudding) were going to be amazing because of the three C's: 1) carbs 2) cheese 3) caramel. But I had a much harder time picking out my entree: chicken potpie on biscuit, some kind of beef, and smothered pork chop. I'm filipino. So, pork it is. Sadly, the porkchop was completely and utterly outshined by the sides: the chop was a little dry - maybe if there was more smothering going on? Add some of that smother to the order? I don't know. I mean, the chop was tasty, but when you're going against that magical mac n'cheese and the mind blowing bread pudding, you gotta bring your A game. The chop was just a B. In any case, I'm all yours, Ada. Next time, I'm ordering nothing but sides.

Miss Ada! I'm giving this review as I eat so it's going to take a while! Mmdsctfishmmgreenssohh. Sorry shouldn't type with my mouth full! I had the catfish platter with greens, mac-n-cheese and hush puppies. First I took a pinch of fish without any meat, just crispy edge. Delicious batter coating made me say somethin'somthin'! Fish was cooked perfectly. Golden brown and sweet meat. She gave me some hot sauce and I was scared to put it on cause I thought I might mess it up. Then the creamy "m-n-c! Again delicious! On to the greens. Again, most wonderful! The hush puppies were all that a hush puppy should be. Crispy outside with just a hint of cornbread. Cried when I ate the last one. An excellent value. Next time she comes to our park I will order catfish platter to go and try another menu item. As I checked around with others and their meal they seemed to be equally pleased. For me a 3 Star rating is a satisfying experience and worth the stop. 5 stars I reserve for unique dining experiences and I've only given one to the champion @bobrookscrabhouse! If this was a sit down with some sweet tea In a mason jar overlooking the bayou or some other beautiful view I'd give 5 stars. But a splendid 4 Star experience from a food truck is an incredible thing. Can't wait for Ada's Kitchen on Wheels to return. Thank for coming to our job park.

Southern fried catfish with hush puppies, mac and cheese, and collard greens
Kevin C.

Invited to park and serve near our office, I believe the Ada food truck underestimated the business potential surrounding the area. They ran out of one of their main entrees within 1 hour of service. Thank goodness I was able to get the last one (sorry other guests). I would have been just as irritated and angry if I stood in line for 20 minutes roasting under the sun and humidity, only to find what I wanted to be sold out. All the blame can't be placed on them though. I believe a couple other food trucks would have benefitted everyone, as it would have dispersed the long lines and offered variety. As for the food. I went straight for the soul of southern comfort food, some southern fried catfish with hush puppies, collard greens, and mac and cheese! Catfish: Fried well, crispy on the outside, hot and fresh off the fryer, and moist. Mac & Cheese: Tasty Collard Greens: Too salty for me. Believe it's made with pork, but not sure if that would explain why it was too salty. Hush Puppies: Fried well, but mainly breading. Had some corn mixed in. Bottom Line: Had I not been committed (since I had already stood in line for so long), I would have opted for something different. While the fish was done well, the overall meal was slightly disappointing.

Pork on Mac. $5

Food: I had the pulled pork on mac. I assumed it was a sandwich, but alas it wasn't :( The mac was good as was the pork, the sauce was probably the best part. Considering portion size $5 was perfect. I originally ordered the chicken biscuit but they ran out, thank God. So full disclosure, I was at a food truck event and the line was SUPER long and service was that much slower. Lines were long at all of the trucks to be honest. I didn't want the biscuit once the lady at the truck couldn't tell me how the biscuits were made. I asked "are they out the can?" she said "no but they're like the fluffy Pillsbury biscuits" my reply "those are out of the can. Are they bisquick?" her response "no". Someone who can't tell you how the food is made, shouldn't be working at the truck, just my opinion. Now anywho, luckily they ran out of chicken so my friend and I switched our order and shared the mac + pork. All in all, the food was good, but I wouldn't be in a rush to find them and return, but I'm a little picky when it comes to my soul food. I don't believe in canned biscuits. Service: Despite the long lines and being obviously being "over it," the woman who was handing out food remained pleasant and friendly. Kudos to her for that.

Catfish w green beans and mac n cheese

Great food, I had the catfish with the green beans and Mac and cheese. I loved the fish wish it was more than one piece for $14 but hey it's D.C. Definitely will go back

Love this meal! I got to try them when they came to Vienna. Best chicken and waffles I've ever had! Hush puppies are fantastic, fried catfish is hot and fresh, and the seasoned fries are great too!

Chicken and a biscuit (with BBQ sauce and honey). Sides: mac and cheese and avocado/corn/tomato salad in lime dressing. Yum!!!

Empanadas De Mendoza - 3 Empanadas & Side

Empanadas De Mendoza

So I was happily surprised by the empanadas at Empanadas De Mendoza. I orders their 3 empanadas and side combo which included a traditional beef, pineapple chicken, bbq pork, and French fries. The empanadas rappers were light and crispy and the fillings were generous and juicy. The fries were nicely seasoned. My favorite was the chicken and pork. My only complaint was that the empanadas are a little small and a bit pricey, but I get it - we're in a recession. Overall it was a great meal and I look forward to trying their food again.

SCORE! I said although I've never had them, didn't even peek at them on Yelp :: GASP:: and have been spoiled by authentic empanadas growing up in the NYC area that I would still give them a shot bc I totally needed to eat some stress away and empanadas sounded like the perfect escape to do so. The line was fairly long for the truck but they had it running like a well oiled machine and the guy taking orders was super friendly which made waiting in the cold and dark totally worth it . I went with the 3 empanadas + a side so that I could totally truly give them a fair shot and see what they were working with. I opted for the Spicy Beef, Honey BBQ Pork and the 3 Cheese empanadas + the Chimichurri Fries as a side. OOOOOOOOOMMMGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!! Every morsel of these empanadas, those damn fries and the side dipping sauces were OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!! I literally devoured everything all by myself in under 15 minutes....and I am PROUD ! This place is legit and their flavors are magical! The spicy beef was spicy, the 3 cheeses were cheesy, the honey bbq was perfectly pulled pork like and those fries with the sauces were restaurant week worthy! I can't wait to try the other empanadas on their next go round and must say that my entire week is all better because of Empanadas De Mendoza

Finally building management sent out a message saying the truck would be here at 5:15 p.m. When food trucks come here, we are given a link where we can order our food in advance and it will be ready at the time you want. We never partook of this option because we knew things could go wrong. Today, especially, we were really glad! Once the truck arrived, the man who worked there, came out to apologize saying he had to replace some equipment which caused them to be late. Also, although he didn't mention it, I think he probably got caught in rush hour traffic as they are Woodbridge based. He then told me they would be ready to take orders in 20 minutes. So...we waited as did a young woman who had placed an advance order only to be told it was cancelled. Thus, she had to place her order again and at least she made sure she wasn't charged twice for her food. We ordered 2 brisket sandwiches. These sandwiches are topped with cole slaw. That's something we didn't want as we think it can interfere with the brisket flavoring. We asked if they could put it on the side and they said "yes". We also ordered one side of mac & cheese plus one side of beans. All of this came to $50---yikes! The sandwiches came out in those to-go containers which are basically thin cardboard vessels with no covers (see my photo). The beans and the mac & cheese were very small portions and were put into small food containers with no lids. We're glad we brought some plastic bags to bring the food upstairs! Having to do so was no fun at all. As for the food --- The sandwiches were small with not much brisket in them. There was a side of bbq sauce which we used. The sauce was on the tangy side. While the brisket was moist, there wasn't much flavor. It would have benefitted greatly if a rub was used. The cole slaw was decent---no complaints there. The mac & cheese was luke warm but it was the way we like mac & cheese which is simply made---no fancy cheeses or any other additions. We just wish it was hotter. The beans were similar to Boston Baked beans but without the undercurrent of sweetness found in the Boston ones. They were okay---nothing to write home about. Yelp is prodding me to mention "ambiance". Well...it's a food truck that's nicely decorated. If they came back to our building, we don't plan to order again, in large part due to the pricing. Each little side we got cost $8 each!

I was sad to see that they don't offer 'housemade' pastries anymore, as I remember seeing in their past photos; their menu for their offerings was clearly updated. In addition, the drinks that we ordered were just not good at all: +the Toasted Marshmallow Latte - prepared with 2 shots of espresso, choice of milk, and a housemade toasted marshmallow syrup; this tasted like watered down coffee with no 'toasted marshmallow' taste; coffee could have been prepared strong, and we did ask for 'extra hot', but received it regular temperature +Witch's Potion - an apple cider with chai, topped with a dash of cinnamon; probably one of the worst ciders we've had - wasn't really sure the mixture with the chai, but this just seemed like it was an improperly steeped tea that did not have any flavor The staff were friendly, and there seemed to be local patrons who come here on a regular basis. The blue mobile truck is very cute, and they had some seating available with nice fall decor.
