Pad See Ew Udon with Beef

Came on a weekday for lunch, so it was naturally pretty quiet. You order your food up at the front, and they bring it out to you. I went with the pad see ew udon with beef, which came out very quickly. It was very tasty, but also not the biggest portion I've ever had. Good spot for some good Thai food!

This Thai restaurant is notable for its vegan menu; not easy to find with Thai but they offer a variety of dishes including curries. Ordering a red curry yielded a sweet and spicy flavor with some deep fried tofu cubes, peppers, and julienned ginger. It didn't quite have the flavor complexity of the best Thai food and could have done with some Thai basil or Asian eggplants, but to have found this here was good enough for me. Spring rolls were freshly fried; a little cool on the inside actually, and a Thai iced tea was a good way to wash everything down. It was a place where you order at the counter and pay up front, which is a bit unusual but works fine. This is one of those small college towns that gets crowded very easily, and other restaurant choices failed me, so when I finally got a decent meal here it was a win.

    Massaman Curry on Rice

First time here and the food was great! I got the massaman curry (mild), and it was both filling and delicious. I definitely want to try the drunken noodles next time. The restaurant was clean, and the woman who served us was friendly, quick, and helpful.

I stumbled upon this place on Yelp while I was traveling through the area for work. I am so glad I did! The lunch specials are very affordable and the food was excellent. You order at the counter as opposed to your table and they bring you your food. This might bother some but it didn't adversely impact my experience at all. They were willing to make all substitutions I requested without any concern or upcharge. The food arrived at my table quickly and it was fantastic! If I had to nit pick, I'd say the spice level was definitely under. I ordered medium but the food was very lightly spiced. Not a big deal at all, I'd just order the next level up if/when I have the oportunity to return. Also, the portion size was perfect for lunch. I'll definitely return here if I'm in the area again.

NAME CHANGE ONLY - from Beat Bangkok to now YEAH THAI - same location conveniently located right in downtown BB off Main behind the post office on Jackson. Same management/ownership (saw the super sweet lady owner with my own eyes lol). SAME GREAT FOOD - amazing and AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD - no pretenders here. Literally some of the best Thai food I've had EVER; and Thai food is a steady staple in my life - THAT good. We went on a Wed night, party of 2 around 6:30PM - during school winter break - the place was ofc empty but open till 8PM and they were happy to serve us. The only differences I see besides the name change were a clever "operational" change perhaps to save on labor costs - no longer servers waiting tables - now you walk up to the front counter and place your order and pay (after reviewing the menus at your table). The food is brought to your table and we were tended to throughout our meal so no issues with service. I didn't know "the old" Beat Bangkok menu and pricing very well so I don't know if "the new" Yeah Thai menu is any different. The current menu certainly has all the classic Thai dishes you'd ever want to order. I've posted all the (current) menus (drinks and food) here on Yelp for you to peruse. AMAZING DEAL! This place has a LUNCH SPECIAL MENU - $9.99 - 1130AM - 230PM (presumably includes weekend - ? - the lunch menu doesn't specifically list days, just lunch special hours). SEE MY MENU PIC. Wok-on-rice or Curry-on-rice options. Though I've never been here during lunchtime hours, I would definitely take advantage of the lunch special prices - even if you order with the intention of eating it later or for dinner! If the portion sizes are the same as the non lunch item, PORTIONS ARE HUGE AND DEFINITELY ENOUGH FOR 2 MEALS! Cha-CHING. Pro Tip: Always ask for RICE ON THE SIDE. For non lunch orders, rice apparently always comes on the side, though I always ask for it on the side anyway. FOR LUNCH SPECIALS, ask for rice on the side in case it doesn't come that way - that way: the rice doesn't get soaked up and the curry doesn't get absorbed by the rice. Separating is better for taking home leftovers to eat later. :) We also ordered a side of crispy spring rolls SO GOOD. They came piping hot out of the fryer - literallllllllllllyyyyyy burned our lips and tongues lol. The spring rolls are tightly wrapped, crispy and flavorful. 2 per order. Perfect as an accompaniment to the meal. Service was great - fast and quick - but of course we had the place to ourselves lol. We were served by the owner who was sweet and friendly and nice. Ordered a bottled beer and it came out super cold in the bottle with a freezing cold glass to pour into. Nice touch! I can't think of anything I would give constructive feedback on. Everything was wonderful and we really enjoyed our quiet intimate dinner here. SUCH A TREAT THIS PLACE IS. Mind blown that this gem of an authentic little Thai place is in the heart of BB. HIGHLY RECOMMEND WITH A ZILLION THUMBS UPS!!

Food is very good here and nice /large sized portions. I am an alumni that remembers when it was formerly "Cafe Bangkok." I'd say this replacement is well worth a try!

I'm from Roanoke and this used to be a weekly staple for our family but now we live in richmond and there is nothing that compares to city corner 2 (we've tried at least 6 different main stream Thai places and nothing matches it). We love this restaurant so much that I try to stop in and eat it when I'm back in town visiting family which is what brought me and my kids here today. Don't let the appearance of this restaurant fool you, some of the best food I've eaten has been at hole in the wall spots, city corner inclusive. Staff is incredibly friendly and attentive and never leave you hanging too long. Prices are phenomenal (one of the few restaurants left with pre-Covid-ish prices). If you haven't eaten here, it's time. It's really amazing that roanoke is so lucky to have this place here! (Also, if you aren't sure what to order, pad ka paow with ground pork is awesome, I literally can't find this dish the way it's made at city corner anywhere else, if you're sensitive to spicy you may want to ask for a milder spice level)

The service was good, and since we arrived around 4 PM, the restaurant was very quiet and not crowded. However, the food fell short of expectations, and unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to recommend this restaurant based on my experience. We started with the dumplings, which were gummy and not properly seared. The texture was unpleasant, and after trying one, I couldn't continue eating them. For my main course, the vegetables had an unusual flavor, and the noodles were heavily drenched in oil, making the dish difficult to enjoy. I wasn't able to finish it. My partner ordered the duck (no photo available), and while the presentation was nice, he found the texture overly chewy. He ended up pouring extra sauce over the dish just to finish it. On a positive note, both the Thai tea and Thai green tea were very enjoyable. We even ordered refills, which are offered at half price--a nice touch and probably the highlight of our visit. Overall, while the service, ambiance, and beverages were good, the food quality did not meet our expectations.

We stopped in Blacksburg for an overnight stay and I was desperate for something to eat that wasn't from a bag at that point of the evening. If you know me, you know I'm always in the mood for Chinese food and if it's Sichuan, I'm at absurd levels of contentment. Spicity is a swell little spot in a strip mall and has plenty of seating. With it being right after New Years and at the end of winter break, it was very quiet and blissfully empty (I'd had enough of holiday crowds), as was literally every other restaurant we passed in town. It's spacious, has plenty of seating and has a pleasant atmosphere, if a little bright for my liking. Not that I cared because dry pot is on the menu! I started with a tofu ribbon app that is absolutely delicious (not spicy to me, but I think it had a little chili oil). And the cabbage hot pot, which I ordered extra spicy and they delivered! The bits of tofu skin made it even better. While I wasn't a huge fan of it being overwhelmed by bell peppers, I feel like it's one of those things I'd be able to adjust if I came back (perhaps next year?) They get major bonus points for being open late, too. Looks like delivery is until 9 but the restaurant is open til 11 on Fri/Sat, 10 on Sundays and 10:30 all other nights. Driving through so many small college towns, I'm seeing so many places that are only open until 8:30 or 9.

I ate here all the time in college, and years later I still haven't found Thai food that hits quite the same. The ambiance is great, not too formal but still great for a date night. Everything is flavorful, comforting, and exactly what you want after a long day exploring or reminiscing in town. What makes this place even more special is the staff. They are unbelievably kind and welcoming whether you're there every week like I was during college or just stopping in every few years like I do now.
