I've been here twice now and have had a good experience both times. It's in the mall and pretty small, and my bar for sushi in Blacksburg was pretty low. However, I never felt like the sushi I got was bad, or even average. It's always been good! I'll start by saying the place is small and does not look like much. The staff is friendly. Food came out in reasonable amount of time considering how busy they were. The food was excellent though. The ingredients/fish tasted fresh. The angry dragon was probably the favorite of the meal. The spicy tuna, Philly, and my Fuji rolls were also very good though. The bubble tea was also really good! I would definitely suggest getting 50% sugar though because that's what we got and the drinks were plenty sweet at that level. Definitely a sleeper of a restaurant! But a nice surprise. Cute little store located inside the mall (?), but the food was just not good. The prices were similar to sit-down sushi restaurants but the quality was subpar. Having been to undergrad in the NY/NJ area, I honestly did not set any expectations for decent ethnic food, especially sushi of all things. I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised by this small restaurant. As I said, it is small (maybe 6 tables total, if I'm being generous?), so I wouldn't advise bringing a group larger than 6. You order at the counter, and they make your order right there! You pick up utensils, napkins, and soy sauce by the door. They're relatively fast and make the rolls beautifully. The sushi tasted great; the fish was fresh. I also ordered bubble tea, and it's WAY better than Kung Fu Tea; the boba is cooked properly (last 2 times KFT has served me hard boba...), and they have Thai iced tea! I think other reviewers might complain about the price, but sushi is generally an expensive cuisine; I felt that their prices reflected what was typical up north. Sushi here is huge so I feel like the portions make up for the prices people keep complaining about. I honestly don't think the prices are that bad. I've had the eel and the shrimp tempura and a few other ones where I can't remember the name. All have been okay if you want a sushi fix. My advice is to skip the bubble tea. We got the milk tea, lychee milk, and blueberry milk and all were pretty bad but there aren't many places in Blacksburg for you to compare it to but if anyone is an out of towner and knows bubble tea.... this is not a good place to go. I can't believe I've overlooked Sushi Factory for so long! They definitely have the best sushi in the area--the prices are a tad bit high considering the portions they give, but the variety and quality they have is much better than a lot of the other options in the area. The sunrise green bubble tea is FANTASTIC. When I came in we got our order very quickly and the employees were really sweet. The sushi here is pretty standard for what you get from a to go style sushi place but, that being said, it holds up pretty well against similar establishments in NYC and SF that I have frequented. There are two key components of any sushi experience. The obvious one, the fish, is always a little limited by the less expensive, to go style of sushi served here. The game changer is the rice. The quality of the rice preparation separates good to go sushi places from only so-so ones. They do a really good job with the rice prep here (as opposed to the mushy rice that you get in Kroger rolls) and the rolls are well made. Best price + quality ratio for sushi in Blacksburg. Sushi Factory is one of the most special places in Blacksburg. I feel lucky to have such a unique restaurant in town in a convenient location. You can tell that the owners care about their customers. Every time I have gone, the customer service has been excellent. The shop is cute -- just the right size and well decorated. Good vegetarian & vegan options. Try the tofu pockets, if you haven't! They have every flavor of boba tea you can imagine, and they can be made with soy milk. Ever since Sushi Factory merged with OPass, I haven't liked either much. I used to really like Sushi Factory because the sushi was fresh and tasted really good, but recently the taste has gone down. Used to be my favorite sushi spot in Blacksburg. It's not terrible or anything now, but not quite what it used to be. The bubble tea is okay, I thought they were more generous with the bubbles when OPass was separate. The sushi and the bubble tea are quite expensive for what it is. I'm surprised by how many great reviews this place gets; the sushi is subpar. I got two entirely different rolls and they tasted exactly alike--all the ingredients had this homogenized flavor. The tempura shrimp was soggy and obviously not freshly fried; gross. Both rolls' ingredients must have been doused in soy sauce before I added the little I did because I was more parched the rest of the evening after eating this than I've ever been after eating sushi. Sushi should not be this salty! I've had sushi in many different cities and in various calibers of restaurants; skip this place!!! Everything on their menu is cheapy--most every roll has "crab stick" aka pollack as a cheap filler and all the rolls have tons of rice, also a cheap filler. Best sushi in town. My husband and I loved ordering sushi to go at this place. We also ordered bubble teas at O-Pass Tea and Crepe a few doors down. Ambiance and seating is not much but the sushi is good. Their California roll is one of the best I've had. We liked this place way better than Sake House and Kabuki. Blacksburg does not have many good places to eat so when my husband and I discovered Sushi Factory we were pleasantly surprised. We miss it even now that we live in a city. read more
