    Peach scone (gluten free)
    Meredith B.

Stopped by Bollos on Tuesday morning! Thankfully they have early hours and I was able to swing by right around 7. I parked on College Ave (metered parking doesn't start until 9am) and walked a short half block to the entrance. I was promptly greeted when I walked in and the lady working offered to answer any allergy questions. They specifically list out allergens and restrictions on each sign (gluten, nuts, vegan, etc). There is a plethora of fresh baked pastries to choose from as well as coffee. I had trouble deciding but opted for a GF peach scone and a GF strawberry banana muffin. The muffin was delicious and the scone was also pretty great, kinda dry...but that's just how most scones are! I'll definitely be coming back and trying more of their gluten free options (they have them on Tuesdays and Saturdays!

I've only had coffee here but it's pretty good. The price was great, only $4 for the latte and it tasted just as it should. They also have coffee beans to buy in a lot of different options. Was busy the day I went but the line moves pretty quick. Would recommend if you're looking for a coffee and pastry in the area.

    Vegan Raspberry Oat Bar

This place is a really nice little nook! I was under the false impression that sandwiches were made to order, when it was really more of a "grab a pre-made sandwich from the cooler" type of deal. That being said, it's still a stellar bakery. I've gone 3 times in the past week on my visit to Blacksburg, each time trying out something new and vegan. Sadly on the last day they didn't have any chickpea salad sandwiches, I was looking forward to trying them I tried these vegan pastry options; Blackberry Muffin, Raspberry Oat Bar, Pumpkin Brownie, Raspberry Chocolate Cake, and Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffin. They were all so good! I wish we had a Bollo's back home. The Blackberry Muffin was topped with those thick crunchy sugar crystals, the Raspberry Oat Bar was very sweet and one of my favorites. The Pumpkin Brownie was super fudgy in consistency and was really rich. I think the Raspberry Chocolate Cake was my all-time favorite; the frosting on the top was super chocolatey and thick, and the bottom was really sweet with all the fruit. The Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffin was my last purchase and tasted really good, very moist and not crumbly like some muffins can be. The top was a bit harder then the rest because of exposure to air and such but I didn't mind! I'm glad they left out the chunky sugar crystals for this one, it was fun on the blackberry muffin but chocolate and pumpkin need no sprinkles. I definitely recommend this to everyone who likes tasty treats! I also had a sip of their Ambrose tea and it was very fruity and sweet. The staff has always been nice to me.

My favorite coffeeshop in Blacksburg! Bollo's offers a wide selection of teas, coffees, juices, and other beverages (delicious local kombucha) - and the friendly staff can easily create something for you if it's not on the menu. In addition to taste palates, they're also happy to accommodate dietary preferences. This is clear with their pastries, which include several rotating gluten-free and vegan options. The large windows create a warm and cozy atmosphere, so Bollo's is a great place for getting work done, meeting a friend, or going for a quick drink after dinner. Despite the shop's limited seating, finding a seat is usually simple.

Pretty cool college-oriented coffee shop in Blacksburg not far from Virginia Tech's campus. It's small, however, and gets quite crowded. As in, small enough you have trouble perhaps weaving around seats patrons getting to your own table. However, they have a great selection of coffee drinks, pastries and other goodies (they had a very good pecan pie when I was there on a Saturday in November) and the staff is friendly. I am guessing since they have "bakery" in their name they do their own baking on-site but whatever the case, their baked goods are impressive enough.

I have lived in Blacksburg my whole life and ODB has been a go-to bakery for most locals for a while. Serving a variety of pastries, cakes, breads, and offering lunch, brunch, and dinners. They have a lovely variety of options for customers to enjoy. The bakery primarily serves French pastries and caters to French cuisine at their meals. Although they offer more than just French inspired food. In the past, my family and I have enjoyed grabbing their cakes for celebrations and individual pastries from their pastries case. But recently, they have not been up to par and have left us very unsatisfied. The cakes have been dry and do not taste fresh at all. On my latest visit I tried a couple of things, all of which were cold, with dry, crumbly textures. It was evident to me that these pastries were not made day-of and had clearly sat in a fridge for at least one night (if not more). I found this to be extremely disappointing as ODB used to have a reputation of serving FRESH baked goods and pastries. I cannot attest for the hot food they serve during meal times, but the pastries and cakes have gone down hill. Over the winter break, I had their NY cheesecake bar (which I've gotten in the past and it was phenomenal) and it fell so short of what I remembered. It was lacking flavor and the crust at the bottom was dry. This past visit, I tried a Napoleon (also have had this before and really enjoyed it), a specialty cake, a scone, and a couple macarons and macaroons. The Napoleon was so cold and the puff pastry was super stale, it practically fell apart the second I tried to eat it. The specialty individual cake slice was also very cold and the cake wasn't moist at all. Again, indicating it was not fresh or made day-of. The scone was also a disappointment as it was dry and lacked any moisture. I thought the macrons and macaroons were fine though. While most of this was disappointing, the price didn't help either. Nothing was inexpensive and the quality was completely missing. So disappointing to leave this review as I used to enjoy coming here for sweet treats. It's sad to see that ODB is unfortunately not what it used to be. I will note that the service is very friendly and they do their best dealing with customers. Could have been more efficient, but I did go during a busier time. I hope they can turn things around, but until then I do not think I will be retuning soon.

I was caught off guard when my friend walked up the stairs to the house because from initial appearance, I wouldn't have thought this was the restaurant! Upon walking in, the host greeted us and told us his name was Dan and that he was the owner of the restaurant! It was really cool to see that the owner is truly passionate about his restaurant and will show up to put in the work, even during the later hours. In terms of the food, I went with the Hungry Hokie which was a mashed potato bowl with with bits of meatloaf and chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese. It also came with a biscuit or cornbread, I opted in with the cornbread. The food was absolutely hearty and had pretty good flavor! The one wish that I had was that it came in a bigger portion as it didn't fully fill me up. If I was in town again, I'd definitely consider going back to try the other items on the menu!
