Came in for the first time today to get some coffee, and wow what a place. Feels like home, great pumpkin spice iced latte. Gorgeous house and the food looks amazing! They have a huge outdoor space, and apparently an upstairs too. They also stay open til 7 some evening and have beer. Great spot!

Great cute coffee spot! I got the berry ice tea and friends got the purple haze and iced coffee. All were good. There is outdoor seating as well!

This is a very nice looking house which has abundant free parking and plenty of indoor and outdoor space if you want to sit around, which I did not do on my initial visit but would certainly like to. Food options were limited, but my parfait, which came out of the refrigerator with blueberries but received an extra helping of strawberries at the counter, did provide me with the sustenance I needed. Their chai was syrupy and heavy on cinnamon. Tasty but nothing special. Four stars for the fare and a fifth for ambiance, as far as I'm concerned.

A little donkey can be found inside.

In the heart of the Historic Old Southwest neighborhood of Roanoke, Virginia, there is a beautiful Old Victorian house that has been converted to a lovely little quaint Coffee Shop named Sweet Donkey Coffee. This morning I went to visit it as soon as it opened at 6:00am. It was still dark outside when I arrived and extremely cold outside, but the old mansion converted to Sweet Donkey Coffee looked very majestic surrounded by bright light bulbs all around. When I entered the red brick building, I found that the renovation had turned out amazingly extraordinary. The original well polished hardwood floors gave character to the place that was painted with dark tone blue paint and the walls full of modern oil paintings all around. The furniture were simple yet elegant and the white framed windows gave it an air of distinction. And what amazed me most is that at that early time of the morning the Coffee Shop was full of customers all around. There where two ladies who seemed like good friends seated in a table next to a window. An older man drinking coffee and reading something from his cellphone. A young man was seated in a small table with his laptop taking advantage of the Free Wi-Fi. A lady who seemed like a loyal customer was at another table who when she found out it was my first time there, she spoke highly of the place to me and in particular about their wonderful Waffles, one of which she was eating and allowed me to photograph to include with this review. The coffee and food station was behind a wonderfully designed counter surrounded with bakery items to accompany your cup of coffee or tea. A young woman behind the counter greeted me with a warm and friendly smile. I ordered a House Made Breakfast Sandwich, with a White Chocolate Raspberry Muffin made in the house, and to drink a large Cafe Mocha. When I paid with my credit card I joined their Club and earned a point. Then I took my order to a small table next to their Christmas Tree. Everything tasted amazingly good. From the Cafe Mocha that had a beautiful design on top, to the breakfast sandwich that was heated with a pressed iron toaster, to the Muffin that was so soft and fresh. As I was eating other customers arrived and put in their orders and waited to be called to pick the orders up. A father and son picked their order and sat in a table on the other side of the Christmas Tree. Other friend couples and single customers ordered and sat down. You would never imagine it was so early in the morning but the incredible atmosphere of the place attracted people of all ages, family and friends, to share quality time there, drinking a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, accompanied by a fresh bakery items. What a wonderful place. I highly recommend this place to all. Come by yourself or with family and friends. You will feel so comfortable surrounded by this beautiful renovated historic house, and welcomed by the friendly baristas behind the counter. Once you come here once, you immediately would want to return.

An adorable little coffee shop in a converted home. I loved the big front patio as well as the cozy seating in the various rooms inside. The PB seasonal latte was absolutely delicious. I wish I could go here every day!

    Great Food Sweet Donkeys !

Always enjoyed to have brunch at Sweet Donkeys. People making food and drink are always nice and atmosphere is clean and bright. Waffles are always hot and straight from griddle to you. Carmel Hot Latte is the best I have ever tasted! Always hot and delicious. We ate our food upstairs. Plenty of rooms and space to enjoy your food and drink. Great place in Cristal Springs when wanting great Coffees and foods.

Love!!! We were staying in Roanoke and our favorite thing to do in Vacation is to find small coffee shops. This was the one we picked and we loved it. I had the orange silk latte iced. It was the perfect pick me up for our drive up further into the Mountains. It looks like it used to be a house which I love when places restore and rehab. Definitely reminds me of 'home'

Such a great little nook for studying, conversation, and even holding meetings! Personally love this place when warm out, as they have an abundance of picnic tables and sofas outside, & also a place in which they hold many concerts for locals and neighbors! Feels like a community staple. I like their rotating flavors, but some of the uniques remain throughout the year (like orange silk, cinnamon bun, and spicy maple!). This is the only shop to feel like an authentic maple latte. Such a charm for all ages!

They also have another location in nearby Salem. I used the app for getting in line which typically works flawlessly. My time to arrive was 15-20 and upon arrival in that frame a table was ready. A host seated us with menus and silverware. Our group of four looked over the menu as a waitress arrived minutes later. She got the drink order and arrived back in short order. We were ready to order. I cannot remember what everyone got, but I had the Spring chimichurri special and added an avocado. The dining room was packed as was their outdoor patio. The noise was elevated, but not piercing. We had a table near the patio. I enjoyed my coffee as we waited for brunch orders. It's impossible to not be impressed with the hard working staff as they quickly moved through the dining room. After around 15 to no more than 20 minutes the food hit the table. The millionaire bacon is always a huge hit and recommend. Everyone's dishes were correct. My dish overall looked smaller than I've had before. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. The avocado add was two tiny pieces which was disappointing. When our waitress checked in I alerted her the avocado add on was underwhelming. She immediately addressed it with additional. She also got another water craft. Checkout was efficient up front. In my opinion First Watch offers a higher level service, good and atmosphere. And what I found completely amazed me, and exceeded my highest of expectations. After being awarded the NC Triad Yelp Squad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, celebrating their contributions and accomplishments throughout the year, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea, near Tanglewood Mall, in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. The Mill Mountain Coffee & Tea on Starkey Road in Roanoke, VA, is a former bank that was converted into a coffee shop by Blake Construction, a company that also handles many of their projects. This location opened in 2012, after the original downtown Roanoke store was established in 1990 by founder Dave Johnson. The Starkey Road location featured a unique renovation, including turning the old vault into a walk-in cooler and adding a drive-up window.  When I entered the Coffee Shop today, I was attracted by its magical cozy ambiance and by the fine lines and curves of its renovation architectural design. Known for its artisanal coffee blends and curated tea selections, I was also impressed with their menu, that besides freshly baked pastries, also included a nice egg variety plates for breakfast and creative sandwiches for lunch. The place offered a cozy retreat for coffee enthusiasts. College students could take advantage of their Free WiFi to research and write their reports using their laptops. Friends could meet there to spend quality time talking to each other. Entrepreneurs could use the place to brainstorm business ideas over a cup of savory coffee. Art enthusiasts could view the artists display works, and even purchase one to add to their collection. When it was my turn to make my order, I approached the counter and a bright and friendly young lady took my order. I ordered a breakfast plate with two fried eggs over easy, bacon, and white toast, with a large Mocha Coffee to drink. The cook did an excellent job cooking my food, just how I had asked it done. At the entrance there was a Community Bulletin Board with different announcements and advertisements. I happened to find one for this year's performance of the Nutcracker at the Burgland Center, which I had been wondering about when ticket sales were selling. In conclusion, I highly recommend this coffee shop, not only for its great coffee and tea, for its food menu, for its exceptional customer service, and cozy atmosphere, that together make for an extraordinary dining experience.

Last time I visited this restaurant and wrote a review I found it simply amazing: its decor, its ambiance, its food, and most important of all, its excellent customer service by its friendly and very efficient servers. I invite you to read that review and view my photographs accompanying it to get a better sense of my experience here, then. However, this time around, it wasn't so good. And I judge restaurants by their consistency of quality of food and service. This time, the ambiance was nice and the service was excellent by a friendly young lady server, but the quality of the food left much to be desired, especially the way it was cooked. The cook was a total disappointment. I was one of the first ones there when they opened their doors. When I entered, a group of friendly and eager to serve servers who where gathered around chatting, waiting for their customers to arrive, greeted me and gave me a warm welcome, and invited me to take the table of my choice. Soon after I was seated, my server, a friendly young lady came by and took my order. I asked for orange juice and coffee to drink, as well as a glass of iced water. And to eat I asked for the dish that I so much enjoyed and was looking forward to having today: the Steak & Eggs. I ordered a five ounce filet cooked medium rare with two fried eggs cooked over easy, served with homefries as my choice of side, and for bread: white Texas toast. While I waited for my food to come out, I enjoyed drinking my orange juice and coffee, looked over the menu, and looked out the window where I saw in the distance, Ernie's, one of my favorite breakfast restaurants, for its consistency of quality food and service, and relaxing environment. When my server brings my food, the first thing I noticed was my flat filet cut. Usually this cut is for customers who like their steak well done. Last time, my filet was a thick cut one, cooked medium-rare to perfection. Then I saw the fried eggs. They weren't over easy, but over cooked as well. And the toast was over-toasted and laid there while the food was cooking, because it was luckwarm and hard by the time it got to me. When I cut my steak with the steak knife to see if it was pink inside, it was not. It was tough and dry. When my servers. I signaled one of servers asking for my server and tell her about my steak. She replied that now they were using a different meat provider, but that she would take it back and ask for another to be cooked. She only takes the steak back. Shen then brings me another back that not only had a weird shape, but was rare and with gristle. Judging by the quality of the second steak, the cook didn't intend to make amends, or maybe didn't know better. It's a pity because everything else about this restaurant is comforting, but when the food isn't, it takes away the desire to return. I hope the management and the owner of the restaurant read this review and take the necessary steps to correct the misdoing. Because restaurants' success is brought about through repeat customers and not by passersby.

After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Bread Craft Bakery, located in Downtown Roanoke, is the perfect example of one of them. Bread Craft is a premier, artisan European-style bakery established in 2006 by owner Alex Eliades, who besides having a passion for baking, has over 25 years of baking experience, and leads the bakery focusing on traditional slow-fermentation techniques. The bakery is known for its high-quality, scratch-made sourdough, pastries, and Croissants. It evolved from a wholesale operation into a popular 6,000 square foot café on Church Avenue, also supplying local restaurants. The bakery specializes in Franch and German-style baking, utilizing sourdough as a natural leavener. It servers breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, salads, and some creative breakfast egg entrées. They are open Wednesdays through Sundays from 8:00AM - 2:00PM and are well known for running out of items before the end of the day. For this review I visited the Bakery / Café for breakfast on two consecutive Wednesdays. The first Wednesday I arrived too late to be able to have their Chorizo & Eggs Cocotte from their Breakfast menu. Breakfast is only served until noon, and I found out about this on that day. So instead I had a Cheese Danish and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Both items were delicious. On the second Wednesday I arrived much earlier for breakfast. Luckily, right before a whole rush of customers arriving to place Take-out orders. As soon as I walked inside I immediately felt comfortable with its clean and contemporary architectural design and decor, and an exposed red brick wall that gave it a warm ambiance. One can see that the owner spent a substantial amount in renovating the place when they moved here, and that they took good care of it, because it looked as if it had just opened for the very first time yesterday. While I was looking over all the baked items they had, I received a friendly greeting and warm welcome from a lady behind the counter who seemed to be the manager and took my order. To start I ordered a Chorizo Quiche which happened to be the Quiche of the day, and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Then since I was planning to turn this into a Brunch, for my main entrée I ordered their Chorizo Cocotte from the Breakfast menu. And for dessert I had a Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant that was simply irresistible. Everything tasted amazingly delicious, especially since I love Chorizo. The Quiche had an amazing crust with the eggs inside cooked with the perfect amount of chorizo. The Chorizo Cocotte was served in an elongated bowl with two poached eggs over Spanish sausage, accompanied by three slices of freshly made Baguette. And if all this wasn't enough, the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was the perfect ending dessert to this fabulous put together Brunch. Oh and the coffee was the best of the best. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. What an outstanding dining experience I just had at Bread Craft. Wonderful ambiance, amazing food, and extraordinary customer service. I highly recommend this Bakery/Café whenever you're in the area. I'm absolutely certain it will become one of your favorites bakery.

10 out of 10 recommend! This place has the best pastries and bread in all of Roanoke! If you're…read morethinking about trying it, do it! You will not be disappointed! Best almond croissant I've ever had. I am obsessed with the sour dough. They usually have daily specials but you need to get there early (before 10am) to try one before they sell out, especially on the weekend. The have a refurbished old cigarette vending machine in the front, ask the front desk for a token to get a piece of art from it! Tokens are $5 and well worth it and a fun activity! They stock the machine with little pieces of art work from local / regional artists.
