Cortado in a to go cup
    Bruce K.

Early for my appointment and needing coffee, I lucked out with a parking space in front and hung out in Mill Mountain Coffee for about a half hour on their internet. The barista made an excellent cortado. If you're usually drinking lattes, try a cortado next time. Instead of foamed milk, it's 50/50 with steamed milk. I think it makes for a better flavor and the one I had this morning was great. Nice, comfy spot. The remaining tables are set to ensure social distancing and masks are required. I had an enjoyable visit. [Review 13798 overall, 1119 of 2020, number 1232 in Virginia.]

A quaint place in the middle of downtown. Parking can be difficult to find but there is a paid lot right next to it. It's a cute place with a decent coffee menu. They even have cold drinks including Italian sodas. I got the cappuccino and a cranberry/orange muffin. He got the same with the cinnamon muffin. It tasted like a coffee cake and was very good. Mine was slightly too sweet but tasty. The cappuccino itself was good. The small comes with two espresso shots, the medium with 3, and large with 4. Two medium cappuccinos and two muffins came out to about $17. It's a little pricey but still nice. It wasn't busy but the people inside were pretty loud and annoying even at the opposite end of the building. They were loud and trying to sound important. I would definitely come back. Their coffee was delicious and I enjoyed the experience. I'll try the Italian soda next time!

The backdoor no one knows exists! I love this building! It's like diagon alley!

I usually go to the one down south but I moved downtown. So this is it. Very poorly managed. The staff, while absolutely the nicest people, are usually wholly unhelpful. But the coffee is great! It takes about 20 minutes to pour a simple cup when you're the only customer in the building. Don't ask for anything else, you'll be there til your next birthday. I've come here maybe 20ish times and each time I ask if I can buy something from their cabinet of shirts as I buy my coffee. Invariably, the answer was always "we don't have the key." The manager has the key. And the manager is never there no matter what time of day (I've come all times from 9am to 10pm). So one night after standing at the counter not sure which nametagless person is supposed to be helping me for about five minutes, I decided I don't really want a tee from them no matter what their coffee tastes like...

It's fine. Alright coffees, alright foods, a little over-priced. Usually pretty crowded. A good cafe to study or read in, though. Many different coffee bean options to choose from.

It's a nice enough coffeeshop and a good location in downtown Roanoke but the service seemed slightly rushed and while my iced tea was fine the lemon bar I bought tasted a little bit stale. I will admit I have a larger issue than many people with coffeeshop sweets in that I expect if the shop bothers to do them at all, I do expect high quality. If you cannot make and sell fresh pastries, then don't bother. Too many places either bring in sweets from outside or for whatever reason have too many and they don't sell in a timely manner so some become stale. Something of this nature seemed to be the ignoble fate of my lemon bar. That aside, if you're downtown it's not a bad place to get something to drink--coffee or tea or whatever--and chill.

    Mill Mt, always awesome!

I have been coming here for several years. I have never been disappointed. Today for the first time I ordered an Italian soda with peach flavoring. I'm floored! It's excellent This will be a regular for me from now on.

Nice cozy coffee shop in the downtown of Roanoke. It has a lot of potential and it all starts with the coffee. What attract my attention was the sign outside stating an. 'full' espresso bar with on own grinds. I was think thinking, "great." but as Iwent up to order my espresso. I inquired what roasts were used for their espressos and they gave me a blank stare. I ordered a double espresso anyway...needless to say, the espressos tasted more like a dark roast American coffee. A bit on the watery side for an espresso... Unfortunately the espresso is what I based my review on, seems like others enjoy the cafe food offered. Don't let my review on the espresso discourage you from going in. Check it out for yourself.

Wasn't such a fan of this downtown Roanoke cafe/ coffee shop. They have a large selection of coffee drinks. Wanted a latte with banana syrup and, of course, they're out of it. Opted for a latte with blueberry syrup and it was just awful. Bitter with a funky after taste. The French silk cake was way too sweet as well. Seating is uncomfortable, service is a tad snooty but prices are slightly cheaper than Starbucks. Didn't like what I had and not recommended.

Nice little coffee shop if you need to take a break. They also serve sandwiches and pastries and seem to be pretty popular with the local crowd at lunch. Very friendly service. My only complaints would be password restricted wifi, plugs to charge phone or laptop and lack of green tea options. But nice views on a sunny day! Again, staff is awesome.

Unique repurposed coffee sack chair covers. Decent coffee.

This morning I went to visit their Coffee Shop and see first hand their dream come true. It was early in the morning yet the owners were there to personaly greet me and serve me my Coffee. You could see from the sparkle in their eyes how proud they were of working hard to make their special dream materialize. And work hard they did because all the seating areas and stations were made by them and this gives the place a special character. I ordered a Cafe Latte and my friend ordered a drip. Their modern coffee machine made a wonderful coffee and they finished off by making a design on top of the coffee with the cream. Since it was very early the pastries had not yet arrived but I enjoyed talking with the owners about their new business, looking around at their creation, and enjoying the special cup of coffee they made me. I have truly enjoyed dining in each and every one of them. But Bread Craft, located in the Star City of Roanoke, is in a class of its own. After being ranked 4th among Yelp's Top 50 Most Prolific Elites of 2025, a distinction recognizing my consistent community engagement and high-quality contributions, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants, businesses, and establishments, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to go back and write follow-up reviews on those places that impressed me the most during 2025, and Bread Craft Bakery, located in Downtown Roanoke, is the perfect example of one of them. Bread Craft is a premier, artisan European-style bakery established in 2006 by owner Alex Eliades, who besides having a passion for baking, has over 25 years of baking experience, and leads the bakery focusing on traditional slow-fermentation techniques. The bakery is known for its high-quality, scratch-made sourdough, pastries, and Croissants. It evolved from a wholesale operation into a popular 6,000 square foot café on Church Avenue, also supplying local restaurants. The bakery specializes in Franch and German-style baking, utilizing sourdough as a natural leavener. It servers breakfast and lunch items, including sandwiches, salads, and some creative breakfast egg entrées. They are open Wednesdays through Sundays from 8:00AM - 2:00PM and are well known for running out of items before the end of the day. For this review I visited the Bakery / Café for breakfast on two consecutive Wednesdays. The first Wednesday I arrived too late to be able to have their Chorizo & Eggs Cocotte from their Breakfast menu. Breakfast is only served until noon, and I found out about this on that day. So instead I had a Cheese Danish and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Both items were delicious. On the second Wednesday I arrived much earlier for breakfast. Luckily, right before a whole rush of customers arriving to place Take-out orders. As soon as I walked inside I immediately felt comfortable with its clean and contemporary architectural design and decor, and an exposed red brick wall that gave it a warm ambiance. One can see that the owner spent a substantial amount in renovating the place when they moved here, and that they took good care of it, because it looked as if it had just opened for the very first time yesterday. While I was looking over all the baked items they had, I received a friendly greeting and warm welcome from a lady behind the counter who seemed to be the manager and took my order. To start I ordered a Chorizo Quiche which happened to be the Quiche of the day, and a house-made Mocha Coffee. Then since I was planning to turn this into a Brunch, for my main entrée I ordered their Chorizo Cocotte from the Breakfast menu. And for dessert I had a Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant that was simply irresistible. Everything tasted amazingly delicious, especially since I love Chorizo. The Quiche had an amazing crust with the eggs inside cooked with the perfect amount of chorizo. The Chorizo Cocotte was served in an elongated bowl with two poached eggs over Spanish sausage, accompanied by three slices of freshly made Baguette. And if all this wasn't enough, the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant was the perfect ending dessert to this fabulous put together Brunch. Oh and the coffee was the best of the best. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the place and the quality of their food. What an outstanding dining experience I just had at Bread Craft. Wonderful ambiance, amazing food, and extraordinary customer service. I highly recommend this Bakery/Café whenever you're in the area. This upscale Coffee Shop, authorized purveyor of Starbucks, named in honor of the iconic 611 steam locomotive, opens at 6:00am, and provides a take-and-go breakfast as well as has a counter seating area inside with complimentary Wi-Fi as well as a few tables and chairs outside to enjoy a quick breakfast on the way to a meeting, or to spend some early morning quality time in a relaxed atmosphere with family or friends, while enjoying some good coffee or tea, with breakfast sandwiches, fresh bagels with cream cheese, or bakery items. I arrived to have breakfast on an early morning of the most wonderful time of the year and after having won the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award a week earlier, was looking forward to reviewing this very unique Coffee Shop, Eatery, and more. First of all I was extremely impressed with the interior design of the Coffee Shop. It is by far the most beautifully designed Coffee Shop that I have evered visited. The attention to detail was evident even before one entered the place and even more after. It was evident in the design and quality materials used to create and house this Coffee Shop and more. I was very impressed with all the gift items exhibited there as well, such as cute stuffed animals, tumblers, and fine crystal items, to name a few. Second of all I was very impressed by the nice variety of coffees, other drink items, and exquisite foods, made available not only on the menu, but also inside beautiful display cases, elegantly labeled by name. And last but not least, I was extremely impressed by the extraordinary customer service provided by the young lady barista behind the counter, who was very knowledgeable about the Coffee Shop and all its available items. I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese and a large Caffè Mocha. They both were wonderfully prepared and tasted amazingly delicious. I enjoyed them seated at the white marble counter facing the Christmas trees that decorate the Hotel during this Special time of the year. I highly recommend this Coffee Shop for a unique breakfast dining experience in a relaxed yet distinguished atmosphere, with wonderful food and drinks, and extraordinary customer service.

Arriving several hours before closing, I found only a couple of loaves on sale, and a long line to get with them. I managed to snag the last one that wasn't plain white bread, and thought I'd add a slice of pizza as it looked appealing. While the ingredients were there, the little toaster oven they used barely warmed it up at all. I ate it there, but I'd suspect it would have been much better if I'd gotten it to go and cooked it properly myself. They don't open all that early on weekdays and I've struggled to make it in, and on the weekend, they struggled to meet expectations. Perhaps on a different day, they could do a better job of getting the right baked goods into my hands.

So I never thought anything about it, and never had an reason to. But today I said to myself, I have to take the road less traveled and go inside. And when I did, I discovered the best kept secret of Downtown Roanoke. A bakery that brought me back to years ago, when I visited Paris, France. With beautiful original hardwood floors and exposed red brick walls, high ceilings, and wonderful lighting treatment, the restaurant projected a warm and cozy feeling with the right ambiance to relax and have a cup of homemade coffee accompanied by a piece of freshly baked bread, bagel, or danish; or even better, the creative discovery of the Sweet & Spicy Bacon with Caramelized Onion Scrambled Egg Pizza. Which I definitely ended up ordering and enjoying with a large cup of Cafe Mocha, which was only 25 cents more than the small cup. And was one of the best Mochas that I have ever had in any coffee shop, yet along in any bakery. The solid white with tones of black marble tables and black chairs, contributed to make the ambiance of the bakery the right place in which to enjoy a breakfast none other than those I once enjoyed in Paris, France. As I enjoyed my breakfast dining experience, steady customers came in to have breakfast as well, and many others to order takeout. One even came to order a beautiful made cake which they also pride themselves of having, as well as one of my favorites, the Peanut Butter Pie. And last but not least was the young lady server behind the counter. She warmly greeted me when I arrived and answered all my questions about this quaint local business, and many of its products, which were many. And who prepared the amazing Cafe Mocha. And brought it to the table of my choice, together with the amazingly delicious, first time discovered, scrambled egg pizza. I also had an "Asiago Bagel" with Cream Cheese and a Cherry Cheese Croissant. The other employees and one that I think could have been the owner, I was able to greet with my eyes and a smile, seemed so friendly and also contributed to make me feel at home. I highly recommend this cozy Bakery Cafe who also has wraps, hot paninis, sandwiches, soups, and salads on its menu to enjoy for lunch. What an extraordinary dining experience! I will never again walk by an unknown food establishment without stopping by and walking in. For it is those who take the road less traveled who discover and enjoy the best in life.
