Cute little coffee shop in an open space that is also a little market but the market does open up much later than the coffee shop. Loved that we could bring our dog in to hangout. The only thing was that the individuals taking our order on two different days and different people seemed a little indifferent. We tried the Purple Haze and the Honey Bee Lattes. Purple haze was delicious but the Honey Bee Latte had a lot of cinnamon. We also tried their Chorizo, Sausage and Cheese Burrito with salsa. Great flavor but there was a lot more egg and not enough chorizo. They also have a lot of pastries and baked goods. We did get a chocolate muffin which was very good. Coffee was good, breakfast sandwiches were great except for the fact that I ordered them on bagels and discovered they were on sourdough bread when I got home. Staff was helpful and polite but couldn't locate the key for the community bathroom in the mall area. I will go back though next time we visit as it's rare that everything is perfect all the time. read more

This place is in a sort of indoor mall; they put a sign outside because it doesn't look obvious from the street where the entrance is. Ordering online left me with a ready breakfast. Unfortunately, a toasted bagel with butter had the butter on the side, and thus by the time I ate my bagel it was cold and didn't butter the way I wanted it to. Their chai was a syrupy but interesting flavor that emphasized spice more than sugar; at least, the first few sips were before I clumsily dropped it. No blame for them on that. Adding a parfait to eat later was a good decision that gave me energy for the day. They had a wide menu, and while I wanted a bit more from my bagel I could certainly find a quick and easy breakfast downtown here whenever I needed it. read more

This place is SO hipster cool. There are a bunch of mini businesses inside once you enter the coffee shop. They even have a vintage record shop- so cute There is plenty of seating for studying! My coffee was good and I got in some good hours of studying. Definitely suggest you come here. Upstairs there is cool seating where you can look out the window too while sipping a drink and reading. Located in a very "one of a kind" building named "CRAFTERIA" on Church Ave Downtown Roanoke, after reading their outdoor sign with a wonderful selection of coffees and hot chocolates, I decided to go inside to explore this Little Green Hive and see what this CRAFTERIA in the heart of Downtown Roanoke is all about. And what I discovered was this so called Little hive was full of a big selection of coffees, pasties, sandwiches, ice creams, among other items on the menu. It is the first business one encounters as one enters the CRAFTERIA. Today you can see it decorated for the Holidays and listen to Christmas music in the background. The cathedral ceiling at the entrance gives the place a majestic ambiance so deserving of the place. On the right side there is a comfortable sitting area with leather sofas and chairs to sit and enjoy your coffee and pastries with friends. I ordered the Peanut Butter Latte. The server behind the counter was very nice and had my coffee made and ready in no time at all. The high quality of the cardboard material and design of the cup was a reflection of the exquisite taste of this unique combination of dark chocolate, peanut butter, and coffee. The place has another sitting area with small black marble tables and chairs. As I sat on a chair next to one of these tables enjoying the Holiday music I observed another employee preparing the pastries. On the walls of the place there are some paintings from a local artist for viewing and for sale. And in the middle of the place their are some other arts and crafts from local artists. There are also some other stores inside such as two small beauty parlors, a Puerto Rican Restaurant "Delicias Boricuas," and a vinyl record store. What an amazing environment in the middle of Roanoke to stop, have a bite to eat, drink a cup of coffee, and enjoy with some friends wonderful artworks and music. I highly recommend this place to everyone who is in the area and would like a wonderful and unique dining experience, and also make a suggestion to those involved in the invigorating the City Market Building to use this as an example of attracting people to an area at the same time that it serves the artistic needs of a growing community. read more

Mannnnn I'm not a fan of this place. They have some unique specialty drinks but I don't care about that. When I get their normal espresso drinks or even a cold brew it's just not as goood as other places. I also don't love this location. "Roanokes raddest market" Shuuuuut uuup mannnn. It actual is a pretty cool place tho. I actually do like the location I lied. Cool record store and crafts and stuff. Neat little coffee shop in an indoor shopping mall. Years ago I can see that this mall probably had some larger stores in it and it was a small attraction in the Roanoke area. Today it is mostly small local vendors with local art type items, including knitted, and crochet type items. The coffee shop is in the middle of all of them with extremely friendly staff. I had a cortado, equal parts espresso and steamed milk, and the gluten-free quiche. The Cortado was perfect for a decaf, and the quiche was great. The quiche actually has a hash brown crust, which is why it is gluten-free. It give it a nice crisp crust! There are multiple chairs throughout and pretty decent Wi-Fi that is free to use. There's also a small little restaurant that I believe is Dominican in the same food court. I'll have to try it out next time I'm in town. read more

Had it not been for the failed visit to a neighboring cafe, we'd have missed this gem altogether. The hubs and I had the BEST lattes here! The staff was super friendly and helpful with choices. He went with a Queen Bee and I ordered a mocha-raspberry latte (basically a Queen Bee with mocha). Even better, we had something delicious and comforting to sip on while we strolled around the Crafteria filling our basket with artisan goods. If the other drinks are half as good as what we had, we might have to drive the 4 hours back just to try one! read more

DOGS ARE ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING! I went off of the review below mine about a service dog issue so my husband and I traded off pup watching duties outside- sending one in to check the menu. One of their baristas made sure to let us know that the building is dog friendly and to bring her inside. Which we did. Had a blast. Their Queen Bee latte is grand, I got it as a decaf version. Very warm and cozy. Well made food and drinks. And the little shops in and around the building added a magical edge to the day. Highly recommend! Impeccable service!!! Stumbled by after a horrible lunch experience and we are so glad we did. We ordered hot specialty coffees and baked sweet treats to go. Coffees were all very good and perfectly brewed. Scones were soft on the inside with a slight crunch on the outside. Baristas were knowledgeable and friendly. So good I came back 3 times in one weekend! Before leaving town I had to stop and grab some of their fresh coffee beans because I knew I was going to miss it... and here I am sitting at home enjoying a cup, thankful that I planned ahead. I have a few dietary restrictions so I stuck to coffee and juices but everything looks amazing and if I were to cheat, I would cheat here. The baked goods were soft and you could tell they were gonna melt in your mouth good. The juices had just the right amount of everything needed to fill my belly with love and they could honestly be a meal in their own. I grabbed my items to go so I could explore the area before the busy rush came in but the seating areas did look inviting and I could see myself spending a few hours working here on my next visit. Local coffee from Red Rooster Coffee Roaster = YAY! Signature blend from Red Rooster Coffee Roaster for purchase = YAY! Fruit Smoothies = YAY! Add-in options like chia seeds = YAY! Using lots of frozen fruit instead of fresh fruit = NAY! I suppose ignorance is bliss, because seeing all of the frozen fruit displayed right in front of me was a bit of a turn-off. It made me question the quality of what was going into my smoothie, given what I was paying for. After all, a fresh fruit smoothie sounds more appealing than frozen fruit smoothie. The 20-ounce smoothie itself, The Green Hive, was heavy on the spinach (as requested) and peaches, giving it a vibrant green color. I also could taste the coconut milk, something I'm not used to seeing in a smoothie but still enjoyed. Overall my healthy, green smoothie did its job of giving me the vitamins and nutrients I was desperately needing, keeping me full for hours. (I was especially grateful for that given that I had a "vacation belly" going on.) Still, I can't overlook the deep containers of frozen fruit in between the register and the blender. I updated this review a while back; not sure why it's not displaying. I'm reviewing the Grandin location. I go there whenever I'm in Roanoke. There is a clean, laid-back friendliness about the place and usually the work of a local artist on display. In the summer they crank up the a/c, which I love! The coffee is good enough that my coffee snob friend was pleased. Especially because you can choose how you want your coffee made; you can even get Chemex.They also keep two kinds of kombucha on tap. I've yet to try the smoothies. Finally, I've never had a problem with their wifi, and I've always found an outlet when I needed to plug in my laptop. read more

This is so cute! Beautiful, historic side of town with plenty of parking nearby. The story has a wonderful large window front with plants and a library. The staff was so warm and welcoming. I enjoyed my Americana and sausage burrito. The establishment was clean, practiced safety measures, and responsible. So sad to post a One star review, as the location is wonderful! But, the customer service was dreadful. This was our first time there, and the first impression from the barista was that we were annoying her. Bland, energy-free acknowledgment of us, it would be generous to say we were "greeted," and mumbled her way through taking our order. I don't want a song and dance, but sweet lord some basic customer service skills please! From there, it got worse. She made two iced drinks when only one was ordered, and actually threw me a dirty look when I pointed that out. At this point, it was so off-putting, we said 'no thank you' & walked away vs. having her make a fresh drink. To add insult, the one iced drink we did have didn't have vanilla in it, despite that being ordered. Overall a terrible customer experience, and we will not recommend this place to anyone nor ever return there again. Manners & competency matter. read more

Great service, a gorgeous interior, and a lot of options! I love their chai, but after trying 10 different espresso drinks, I'm less enamored of their coffee. I'm not sure if it's just my taste buds or what, but the flavoring is always too subtle for me to catch (not too sweet, just....I expect flavors that I'm not smelling/tasting) and the espresso isn't strong enough to feel like a coffee. More like a very subtle milk drink. I'm sure it's a matter of personal taste (and I just moved from Seattle, so I'm used to a lot of indie coffee shop options, so my coffee bar may need adjustment). read more

If you're disabled (especially if your disability is not immediately visible), I suggest you pass this coffee shop by. This used to be my fav coffee spot in town. They make the best lattes. However, they do not respect the Americans with Disabilities Act (at least not anymore), so I will not be going again. I was asked to leave after being in there for at least 30 minutes because my service dog was with me. He was so perfectly well behaved that I guess they didn't notice him when I walked in, walked to the counter and waited for my drink? I informed the employee that he was a service dog, even though she should have been able to tell because he was wearing his clearly marked vest.... She did not care and again asked me to leave. There must be a new staff because I have been to this shop at least 3 previous times with my service dog. It really was a crappy way to start off my birthday. I had been enjoying my latte, minding my own business, with my well trained service dog lying calmly at my feet under the front counter for a while! I just don't get it. So incredibly rude and ignorant. You're allowed to ask a handler what service their dog preforms and that is all. You may not ask them to leave because they have a service dog. Review the ADA with your staff. read more

I love their food and drink choices so much. They're committed to fresh and healthy options. This is the only place I've found fresh juices in the city. That being said, LGH, PLEASE use compostable or recyclable single use plastic! You can recycle #5 in the city. Why not (at the least) use #1? This place was a good find - we went on Sunday morning. It was a bit difficult to find from the street. It's in an indoor marketplace (the vendor stands were closed when we went, but it looks like a great place to grab coffee and walk around and shop for a bit). Great selection of coffee, juice, smoothies and baked goods. The staff was friendly and food came out quick. I LOVED my light roast coffee and the Popeye smoothie bowl was good too.
