Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine the existence of a Thai restaurant like this one. It was like finding a needle in a haystack. The building itself was not that impressive, nor the furniture inside, nor the interior design; but it was a clean, cozy place where you felt at home, relaxed and comfortable. The server welcomed me with open arms, and immediately she made me feel at home. After a warm greeting, she started a conversation to find out how familiar I was with Thai Cuisine and to see if I needed help choosing popular items from the menu. The menu, that had around 12 pages of a great selection of entrées, some of which were highlighted by having their photographs next to them, thus helping the customer get a better sense of the dish itself. To start off with, I ordered a Thai Iced Tea. And after stirring it like I was told by the server when she brought it out to me, literally I tasted heaven. It was not only the best tea I've ever had, but one of the best tasted drinks I've ever tasted. So much so, that I thought to myself, I have to come here again, if only just to enjoy this tea again. As appetizer I ordered the Pork Egg Roll. For my meal I ordered the Pad Thai Shrimp and the Pad Ka Paow (pork) Over Rice with Two Fried Eggs. Both dishes tasted so good. Even the fried eggs over the rice were fried to perfection, just how I like them. Take a look at my photographs accompanying my review and you will see what I mean. While I was waiting for my food to come out, that by the way didn't take long, the owner of the restaurant came out to graciously welcome me to her restaurant which I was visiting for the first time, putting her two hands together and bowing her head. She was one of the friendliest and hospitable persons that I have ever met. Being a Friday evening, the restaurant started to fill up with repeat customers, takeout customers, and even native Thais who came in very friendly and greeted the employees like if they were regulars there. For dessert I had the Mango with Sticky Rice, and they also brought me a complimentary plate with Fried Banana and Fried Taro. All this seems like a lot of food but I took the leftovers home to have for tomorrow. I highly recommend this restaurant to all of you who are reading my review. You will have a dining experience like none ever before. You will fall in love with the Thai Cuisine. And I can almost assure you that, like me, you will make this restaurant one of your favorites.

I will admit, I was skeptical to try this place. To call it a dive would be being kind. Driving up to the building, with the windows and door covered, I nearly turned back. I'm glad I didn't. The place is clean and the staff are incredibly friendly and accomodating. The food was great. If you aren't big on spicy food, order yours less spicy than you normally would. I ordered medium spice level and it had great kick to it but could be overwhelming to folks who can't tolerate a lot of heat. The prices are also pretty reasonable. I will definitely return when I come back to town.

Authentic and inexpensive, this food is fresh and flavorful. It smells and tastes like the food I had in Thailand. This place is a treasure.

This family owned restaurant has THE BEST Thai food that I've eaten in Virginia. Service is friendly and efficient, they answer any questions you have about the food and at the end of our meal the chef even came out to the table to be sure we liked everything. We had gone pre-pandemic but hadn't been in a few years. They used their down time to update the dining space a bit. So glad we moved across town so that we can now make this a regular stop! We had veggie eggrolls (whole) pork eggrolls (cut), larb with duck (it had a name I can't remember) Siam pad Thai, panang curry with chicken (bowl) chu che curry with shrimp (plate).

I wanted to express how much I enjoyed the food at this restaurant. As a frequent customer, I can't get enough of their delicious dishes. Additionally, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making each visit a pleasant experience.

At first glance, the staff is very friendly and super gracious. Reminds me of the wonderful Thai people I met in Thailand. Ample parking but it's not where or what you're expect outside. It's in the middle of nowhere on a residential area turning into a city street. I thought it was a gas station til I looked closely. There were some tables outside but it's a tad too cold to do that. Inside is a hole in the wall. You can tell it is old but they're clean. Everyone greeted me as soon as I walked in and were very enthusiastic to recommend dishes. I love a good Tom yum so I had to try it out. I also got the shrimp pad kee mow. There's something about the flat noodles that make me salivate in anticipation. The portions weren't very big. It's a bit on the pricier side compared to portion. The pad mee mow was a little too sweet for my presence but it was good. Plenty of shrimp in the dish. I got it at a Thai hot 10 and it was pretty spot on. The Tom yum came at maybe a regular despite my asking for it to be Thai hot. The rice was hard and flavorless. I don't think it was jasmine rice but it was acceptable. I got a pineapple fried rice to go and wasn't too thrilled with that. The rice was too hard and it had too much curry in it. It's one of my fav Thai dishes but I don't think I would order that again. The rice dishes are overpriced for the amount of food given. Most places give you a huge plate full. That wasn't the case here. I have a photo of the friend rice but it could be misleading. There were 4 bites taken out of that container for reference. I give the food a 3.5/5 and the experience a solid 4. If the Tom yum was hotter, I would give that a 4/5. It was nice and aromatic. I prefer it when they don't use the cheap white mushrooms but I understand cutting back on food cost. The downer was seeing how stained the soup spoons and bowls were. You can tell everything is old and I would honestly feel better if they replaced them because they aren't too appetizing. The friendly staff is what makes this place nice. It's authentic Thai food. They had a busy dining room even on a cold Sunday evening. There were 10 cars in the lot when I left. Most were regulars and they didn't need a menu. The staff knew what they wanted as soon as they saw them. It's one of the places I would love to try again.

This is one of those really good reminders you should NEVER judge a book by its cover!!! "City Corner 2" seemed to be in the middle of a neighborhood, and I began to get a little nervous if my gps was taking me to the right location....but we arrived and it was there just where it said it would be. By the outside you just feel a bit unsure how this is all going to go food whise. We picked up our 4 dishes and spring rolls, and the five of us who partook in this heavenly Thai feast were SO crazy happy over EVERY dish. Not like, "oh this is pretty good"...more like, "oh man, this is REALLY good!". Yep, Yelp helped us out once again to find an amazing nearby Thai eatery that met and exceeded our expectations, and we are SO thankful we ordered from here! The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and the food was amazing....Thai smile still clearly plastered on my face at this present moment! Can't wait to come back to try other dishes to pour into my memory box of best Thai places to eat at in the US...this eatery makes it on the top 10 I have in my mind that I have tried thus far...and I have tried Thai all over the US! Thanks City Corner 2...best wishes and keep rocking it!!!!

They never got to me and eventually I decided I wasn't hungry and left. Not great. But they were doing vigorous takeout business during that time, so when I had a need I ordered takeout from them well in advance and it was ready. They offer a few vegetarian dishes, and I took a spicy tofu stir fry and a thicker curry as well as some spring rolls. I got a decent amount of actual tofu. I was a little bit peeved at the broccoli showing up in my curry that wasn't listed on the menu. The rice wasn't quite enough for the saucy dishes, and I do like the aromatic jasmine rice. Overall, though, the flavors were solid, the spicy dish was spicy. Given that I came due to a craving for Thai that my last restaurant experience let me down on, I could at least say the food here was A-OK, in Yelp terms. Sometimes, that's good enough.

We also ordered chicken satay. My partner loves that. We never received it. Instead they gave two orders of pad Thai.. not spicy. We did a phone call in order. I went over everything three times. It was a Saturday afternoon, after 3 pm but before 6pm. I ran in to pick it up, but did not check the bag. When we got home there was no chicken satay, but two very bright orange meals?? And my shrimp green curry. I figured it out that it was a dyed orange pad Thai. I say dyed as the chicken that was bright orange too. My partner lost his appetite. He would not eat it. Felt bad for him. I ate only a few bites of the orange noodle,.. it tasted like pad Thai~~ but was not spicy. We were both put off by the orange dye . I had an event after.. we just threw it away.. both orders. I did not call back as I was very clear on the phone, so if the man did not understand me then, why would he after? Why did they dye the food like that? Why was the chicken orange too? We like Thai as it is usually very fresh and clean in taste. My dear friend is from Thailand too. I've been eating Thai for 30 years, and I have never seen dyed bright orange food before. Too bad, as I adore Thai food. Ok a picture is worth one thousand words... put on your sunglasses.

And this love is reflected in their delicious food and in their togetherness as a couple and as a family. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. Wok N Roll Kitchen as we know it today is located at 120 Campbell Avenue, a prime location in downtown Roanoke. It was conceived and founded in 2016 by Mario and Celi, who met online, fell in love, moved to Roanoke, married, and with their years of experience in the restaurant business, decided to establish this restaurant serving a mix of Asian cuisine with a home-cooked, family-style approach, aiming for warmth and flavor in their fresh, made-to-order dishes. The Restaurant first opened in the Crafteria on Church Avenue, and then in 2020 moved to its current location. I first learned of Wok N Roll Kitchen through a good friend of mine. I went to visit him one day and he had just arrived home with a takeout order from this restaurant and shared it with me while he talked about how much he loved this food. It seems like today and always, word of mouth has been and always will be the best form of advertising. Today when I visited the restaurant, I realized that the person taking the orders and serving the food was the co-owner of this family-owned business, together with his wife. He had a wonderful personality and made you feel at home while he took your order and served your food. He talked highly of his wife and I could feel the chemistry between the two that had been the key to the success of this small business I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. It was very clean, with framed inspirational sayings on the wall, and many Assian items decorating the place, starting from the Lucky Cat to other very interesting items. I invite you to view my photographs and video clips.to get a better sense of the restaurant's decor. To start with, I ordered a Mango Smoothie with Boba, remembering that this had been the place where I had Boba for the very first time. As appetizer I ordered the Pork Fried Dumplings and for the main course, the Combo Lo Mein with chicken, beef and shrimp. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I liked the quality of the meats and vegetables in their food. The beef was tender, the shrimp was plumpy and the chicken was very tasty. And those skinny noodles tasted so good. And the amount of food was amazingly plentiful. I was even able to take part of my food home. As I was eating, several customers came by to pickup their To Go orders that they had probably made over the phone. One of their customers wearing a Virginia Tech t-shirt, had such a large order I don't know how he was able to carry it all. Another thing that was interesting was their Hours of Operation. Many of the restaurants around the area were closed on Mondays, I guess because it's considered the slowest day of the week for restaurants. Yet they were open. And they were closed on Sundays. Their reverence in God and love of family is reflected in the hours of operation of the restaurant. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Asian family-owned restaurant to everyone in the area, whether they are locals or just visiting. It is one of those rare places that you feel good about inside that they exist.

This Asian fusion restaurant in the Cave Spring area of Roanoke, is definitely one of my favorite restaurants of all times. And my first visit and review is something that I will always hold very dear. When you finish reading this review I invite you to go back and read that review and view my photographs accompanying that review, for it was a very unique dining experience that I will never forget. From the time you arrive at this restaurant the contemporary building design seems to beckon you to approach and enter. I love their unique logo design made up of letters and a number of a particular font that communicates a certain air of distinction. Once inside, you're like in another world altogether. If the outside of the building was impressive, the interior immediately captures your attention and mesmerizes you with it's beauty. When I arrived today, a very lovely and distinguished lady, dressed very elegantly, welcomed me and led me to the table of my choice. Later did I find out that she was the owner of the restaurant, and I had an opportunity of talking with her about the restaurant, its Sushi Bar, and Sushi chefs. Soon after, my friendly server, who was from Indonesia, came to introduce himself and take my order. To drink I had a Vietnamese Iced Coffee. It was served in a tall glass and tasted marvelous. As appetizer, I had the Dim Sum Platter. It contained 3 shrimp dŕhumai, 3 pork dumplings, 3 pork wasabi shumai, and 2 roasted pork buns. One of those items was extremely spicy, I had to drink water to cool down. The others tasted reasonably good. As my main entrée I had the Lobster Tail Tempura Maki. It was very colorful and tasted, and completely filled me up. My original server did an excellent job serving me the food and coming by to check on me. But then he disappeared and another server, also Indonesian came to bring me my main entrée. I think it might have been a shift change, but feel the first server should have let me know about this fact. But if the first server wad excellent, the second was amazing. He answered all the questions I had about items on the menu, and while delivering special dishes to other customers, he allowed me to photograph this food for the benefit of the readers of this review. Then, at the end, he helped me choose the dessert to have for the Grand Finale of my meal: the Banana Basket. It was amazingly delicious and had slices of bananas, kiwi, mangos, whipped cream, and strawberries. And topped with caramel and chocolate sauces. Considering its friendly and relaxing ambiance, its extensive menu with a wide range of Asian dishes, from traditional Chinese entries to a full sushi bar with raw and cooked options, and its amazing customer service, I definitely highly recommend this restaurant from my own experience. Every time I've dined there I've had an exceptional fine dining experience, and as I'm leaving I'm already looking forward to returning.

So one early evening I was in the area and decided to go in to try it out. After all, with all these positive traits I thought, it has to be good. When I arrived, the decor of the place was reasonably nice for the number of years the restaurant had been opened. It had mostly tables and chairs with no booths. The decor was simple but in good taste. The dark tone colors of the painted walls and ceiling gave it a solid look. The use of light was also well done, especially the pink lights underneath the Sushi Bar. A lady who doubled as a host and server greeted me at the host station near the entrance of the restaurant and guided me to my table. For a Friday evening, the restaurant was not to full but it had several customers eating at different tables, as well as some take out and delivery orders. I was handed the menu which was just color copies of pages from what once had been a cardboard menu, all put together. Even though the quality of the menu itself was kind of cheap, the content had many items from Thai, Japanese, and Chinese cuisines. So I still had high hopes that the food would be good. I ordered Sweet Ice Tea to drink. Fried Calamari as apappetizer, and as my main entrée, from the Thai Entrees, the Cashew Nuts with Pork. When the Fried Calamari came out, the batter was extremely hard as a rock and the Calamari were so tough that I couldn't break them apart with my teeth and swallow them. I had to spit them out back on the plate. Needless to say, this was the first restaurant that I had to call the server and ask her to take them back. I hope management reads my review and checks this. It was either the quality of the Calamari was bad or that they were not fresh. My main entrée was fine, as well as my Fried Ice Cream dessert. For this reason I did not give them a lower score , even though this incident greatly affected the quality of my dining experience there. Maybe this was a one time thing, that happened to my appetizer, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I would say go try them out, and then you judge for yourself.

A lady up front takes your order and all seems like everything will go well and you will have and excellent dining experience. That is, until the food arrives. At the ordering counter I ordered their most expensive item on the menu: Steak & Scallops Hibachi. And two Egg Rolls, and requested to dine in. As I waited for the food to arrive I had very high expectations on how good the food would be. And was looking forward for it to arrive so I could enjoy it. But when I was called to the counter to go pick it up, I had no idea of what a surprise I would get. At first when I opened the container where it came in, all looked nice and delicious. But when I started eating the fried rice didn't taste fresh. It was dry and felt and tasted like it was reheated. Then when I tasted the steak, it tasted like spoiled meat. I couldn't believe what I was eating. The mushrooms were not cooked well and some were even cold. And the slices of zucchini had stains on their skins. The egg rolls were dry. Like if they had been fried ahead of time and reheated. But the worst was the steak. It tasted like rotten meat. I couldn't believe it nor couldn't finish eating it. Just threw it away and left the restaurant. When I got home I brushed my teeth and washed my mouth to get rid of that horrible flavor from the rotten meat. What else I got I can only describe by having to run to the toilet. I don't like to write negative reviews, but in this case I feel obligated to do so, because of the spoiled food they are serving there and their lack of cooking knowledge. Another case of Don't judge a book by its cover. In this case the cover is deceiving the reader.

I ordered the veggie lo mein special combo which came with fried rice and spring rolls. The lo mein was delicious!! However, I was really disappointed by the "fried rice". It was just yellow rice with onions. There were no veggies or eggs like usual fried rice. The spring rolls were good too. Service was quick. Dining area was empty, I was the only person there. Wasn't bad, was just disappointed by the rice, I wish I had gotten just the lo mein instead.

Let me tell you this Pho was the best Pho I have had in years! So good, so so worth it! We also tried the Eggroll appetizers and they were so crunchy and delicious! The fish sauce pairs well with them. I have to go back to try out the rest of the menu! Service was fast, our waiter was a young man, super nice & courteous. Quiet atmosphere, but not the weird quiet, it's the I'm enjoying this delicious dish quiet. Iykyk! Yes, the building may look like it needs attention as well as some tables inside, but trust me the food is 10/10! You have to try them out!

It has no fancy restaurant front, no fancy landscaping, no nice trimmed green grass, and the two handrails of the three cement steps going up to the entrance door are rusted and almost falling down. Yet the small parking lot in front of the place is often full of cars during lunch and dinner time. But since it is often these hole in the wall restaurants that have the best ethnic foods, I decided today to go try it out. Just above the restaurant's building one can see the beautiful Mill Mountain in all its splendor with the green color of the Spring and above it, the Roanoke Star, highlighted by a beautiful blue sky high above it. You can appreciate this more by viewing my photographs that accompany this review. After I entered the restaurant through two simple glass doors, the inside of the restaurant was clean, with its walls painted white, its floor tiles nice and shiny, and its decor in the minimalist style with only nice looking furniture and nice original paintings and artworks evenly spread around the walls of the restaurant. It had large windows in the front that brought in bright light. Next to the windows and walls were dark red color booths and in the middle of the dining room were tables and chairs. As soon as I entered I was warmly greeted by a young man behind the host's station, who welcomed me with a big smile, handed me a copy of the menu, and asked me to take a seat at the table of my choice. After walking around I went and sat at a table that I not only could feel comfortable, but was situated in a central location with good light so I could observe the restaurant well and be able to take well lit photographs of the food items as soon as I was served and while enjoying my dining experience. The same host doubled as my server, and came by my table with a happy smile to see if I was ready to order. To drink I ordered the CAFE SU ADA, a Vietnamese Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk. As appetizer I ordered Ha Cao, Deep Fried Pork Dumplings served with mixed fish sauce. I also ordered their Goi Cuon Tom 2 Cuon, a shrimp, lettuce, and noddle rolled up with a rice paper, and served with peanut butter sauce. As the main course I ordered their Com Suon, Steamed Jasmine Rice with a Grilled Pork Chop. While ordering I talked with the server and he told me that this was a family owned and run business, together with the AA Asian Market that was inside the same building with an entrance from the restaurant. His mother seemed to be the cook, and his father in charge of running the Market. Through my experience I have found that this is very tipical in many ethnic groups restaurant businesses. The food all came out at once, even though I told my server that I would like my appetizers first. So I would recommend you order the appetizer first and after you're done eating it then order your main course, so the second doesn't get cold and you have more time to enjoy both while conversing with your guests. Everything was delicious: the dumplings, the pork, and the shrimp roll, although I found the rice paper a bit too thick and sticky, making it a bit difficult to handle. The sauces accompanying the food were also extremely good tasting. When I asked what they had for dessert, my server walked to the Market and brought me one of their popular desserts. Not knowing what it was, I ate it anyway. The sweet sauce was good but I didn't care much for the pieces of some type of pieces of a vegetable it had inside. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a wonderful Vietnamese Cuisine dining experience. Both the food and the service were great. So much so that I feel in the process I got to learn more about their culture as well.
