I've been wanting to try Ye Olde Centerton Inn for many years. It's a bit of a drive but well worth it. While the rooms aren't especially large they are able to accommodate a table of six without feeling crowded. We were seated and our drink order taken immediately. We then ordered our entrees and appetizers and they were served in perfect time. We started with our appetizers and salads/ soups and also were served warm bread with butter. For our main courses, I had the pork tenderloin which was fantastic and my husband had the swordfish special which he loved. The other four people in our party had the scallops, the chicken parm (which could feed 3 people easily), the salmon, and the steak fromage. Everyone loved their entrees. I do not want to forget our server, Nicole. She kept checking on us and made sure everything was taken care of to our liking. The food is always pleasantly, just a little bit better than I expect. I enjoy the owner's company when he has time to stop and converse between his busy routine of wearing many hats. (He makes a very nice old fashioned with Irish whiskey) Summertime menu items are provided by local farmers and I highly recommend but I'm not downplaying the regular menu by any means. Excellent soups and salads. The Steak Centerton is a favorite of many in the area who know. The food was fantastic, and the service was outstanding. The seafood bisque was absolutely incredible, and my wife couldn't stop praising her Centerton salad. We both thoroughly enjoyed our entrees, and the exceptional service made the night a truly memorable experience. We dined in the "Grinch" room, a small and cozy space with a large fireplace adorned for the holidays, featuring a big caricature of the infamous Whoville resident. Went to the Centerton Inn last night in Elmer for my birthday, it was great! There were 5 of us. We ordered the following: Bangin' Shrimp- Flash Fried and Tossed in a Sweet Chili Mayo; Teriyaki Beef Tips- On a Bed of Crispy Noodles for apps. For mains we had Steak Fromage- Grilled NY Strip Topped with a Blue Cheese; Centerton Potato (twice stuffed); a special pepper steak with mash potatoes; and Warm Chocolate Walnut Bread Pudding. We showed up to have a couple drinks at the bar. After waiting a bit, the owner came out and informed us no food would be served at bar (though the person next to us was eating). When we said we there just for drinks, we were told no drinks would be served unless we had a reservation. We were shocked as we had driven 20 minutes - as were the people next to us were as well (They had drinks AND a reservation). We had friends tell us this happened 2 months ago but we couldn't believe as we have been there with no issues. The owner was extremely rude and it could have been handled differently if it was a staff issue. We've been going to this restaurant for years prior to new ownership - they just lost 2 customers and we will gladly share our experience with friends and others. Service read more

We had another great dinner Saturday 10.23.21. We had the Bangin' Shrimp and we both ordered the Broiled Seafood Platter. We ordered the warm chocolate walnut bread pudding to go. Service was perfect as per all of our last visits. I would come here just for the Centerton Salad so the rest is icing on the cake. We called for reservations and no one answers the phone. then we went to see what is going on and they said you need to call for reservations for dinner . The place was empty. I don't think they are serving the public anymore. Just a small few who get a response. read more

Walking in we immediately noticed a foul smell. We were sat in an empty dining room. The table clothes were ripped and stained, the wall paper and rugs were ripped and stained, the walls and pictures had holes in them. Everything we ordered was so extremely salty-even the salad! I thought I was being pranked. The chicken was like chewing on a tire. We waited to tell the server but he took forever to come back. We left the food uneaten and asked for the check. Ye Olde Centerton Inn always has been a favorite of ours. The ambience of the Colonial-era building alone is worth the trip. We had yet another memorable dinner last night starting with carefully crafted cocktails. The bartender/sommelier also was spot on with his wine recommendations for our dinners. As it was a special occasion, we over-indulged in the sublime menu offerings. The fried calamari was tender and cooked to crisp perfection. The citrus dipping sauce was delicious, and the creamy, shellfish laden bisque did double duty as a second appetizer and an alternative dip for the calamari. For garlic lovers, the Centerton salad is a must. (We never miss it, and we never share a salad. It's just too good!) Our entrees for this evening were the French Onion Chicken and the Chicken Carbonara, both fork-tender and wonderfully flavorful. Our server was welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable. Her recommendation of the chocolate pie special led to the perfect end to our evening. Thank you all for the experience! We do miss the pre-pandemic Thanksgiving dinners held at the Centerton - they were the best ever dining out option for this holiday - but we understand that times change, and we'll always have those memories. What a wonderful experience we had two weeks ago at this historic establishment. We were greeted warmly by the staff upon entering. We were the only diners for the first hour! Our food was delicious and the chef even came out to ask us how our food was. The steak we ordered was better tasting than some steak houses. This place is a gem. I've been here twice - once last year, once just about a month ago. I know businesses have been struggling during the covid-19 situation so we really wanted to support them when indoor dining was available again - and I'm so glad we did! The food was not only outstanding - even better than I remember from our first visit - but the staff was doing a really commendable job of making us feel safe and very welcome for our visit. Reservations are now mandatory, and they seemed to have diners spaced to no more than 1-2 tables per room. That really made the experience feel intimate and special. We called from outside once we arrived, they reminded us on the phone to have our masks on until inside and seated, and paper menus are currently in use. Last time we had ordered the Centerton sampler appetizer and I remembered it being a lot, so this time we stuck to the crab cakes to start. They were very rich and buttery, and loaded with crab meat. Husband got the Centerton salad while I stuck with a garden salad, as I have to be careful with garlic (and thankfully they warned us that the Centerton salad is very garlic-forward.) I'd seen someone online rave about their weekend special of a Salmon Wellington so I had to try that. Turned out I had the last one still available! Husband got the steak with blue cheese sauce. The salmon was outstanding and simply huge - easily enough to have a nice lunch the next day with the leftovers. Well cooked, not overdone, and served with a delicious pepercorn sauce. Husband's steak was perfectly cooked and both entrees went down well with the Italian red wine we ordered. Dessert was an ooey-gooey bread pudding that we somehow found room to share and some coffee to stay awake for the drive home. This is really a lovely place to go, perfect for a romantic evening out in a very historic setting. I definitely look forward to going back more in the future. read more

Ye Olde Centerton Inn is one of the most quaint places I've ever been. The outside of the building is old, and although it could use a few touch ups it has alot of character. When you enter, you'll step into the bar which leads you into the different dining rooms. I counted at least 3. The restaurant is clearly a converted house, which keeps the dining areas small and cozy. I stopped by Ye Olde Centerton Inn for lunch, which they only serve a few days a week. I ordered the crabcake sandwich which came with a side of french fries. The sandwich was okay, not sure I would order it again. The fries were delicious. Aside from kitchen staff, there was only one employee working which was fine since we were the only people there. He was friendly and attentive. read more

Went to dinner here last night with the boyfriend. I've passed this place a couple hundred times and never really gave it a second thought. When it was suggested I figured, why not? Overall I enjoyed my experience but I wasn't blown away. The highlights - To my delight they had a decent beer selection when most of these local-type joints don't. Centerton Salad was delicious (loaded up with garlicky goodness that I am going to have to try to recreate at home. Portions are ridiculously huge - at least 2 meals worth and the The only real drawbacks making this a 3-star: The service was just "okay" Desserts (while included with the meal) were also just "okay" The food was "ok" For the area this place is pretty good and I would go back. The Ye Old Centerton Inn is def a landmark. The old building is so unique. My father actually has painted the building a few times for them. When you walk in it is a little dark but it feels like your back in the pioneer days. My husband treated me one time for Valentines Day here. It was so romantic. We had a candle light dinner and if I recall there was a fireplace going. Their food is amazing. The pork chops were so tender. Now this is more of an upscale restaurant so the food is a little pricy but just the experience pays for its self. The staff was pleasant and always refilling out water. This place books up for holidays so if your planning on dining in make sure you make reservations. There are ghost stories that loom around about the Centerton Inn. I've never seen anything but I'm sure there are stories. The building is from the 1800s or even older! read more

Great meal! It's the details that count starting with the ambiance and fried peanuts upon being seated. Shortly after ordering the centerton salad was delivered with its garlicky goodness accompanied by fresh baked rolls. The steak centerton (filet topped with crab meat) was better than I remembered and cooked perfectly. The desert platter always takes it over the top with a touch sweetness. Sure you could get a filet at a corporate chain restaurant for about ten dollars less but it would be salt drenched, the bread would be warmed out of a package, the salad would be out of a bag, and it certainly wouldn't be topped with jumbo lump crab meet. If you pay another eight bucks for desert you're in the same ball park. I vote you bring ye ole' centerton inn back into your rotation. read more

Well was there again last night for our anniversary.... the stand outs were the Duck Toscana (duck over white beans with a cabbage leaf stuffed with rice.... the duck was tender, done perfectly (medium) and fantastic. Duck is hard to get right for some places but they nailed it!! I had the lamb chop special.. lamb was tender and flavorful and the side was a sweet potato / cheese concoction. Now with that said I hate sweet potatoes. YUCK but I have to say they way they were prepared has turned me into a sweet potato fan (sort of)..... not sure how that happened. The soup was a lobster bisque which was how I like it ... thick, chunky (with lobster) and flavorful. Only thing I missed was I like to add sherry to my soup and did not think of it till after I scarfed it down. To complement the meal I ordered a bottle of Tempranillo, Rojadorada - toro. went well with the duck and lamb but do not let the nose fool you ;) For desert we had an EXTRAORDINARY bottle of a Riesling desert wine. This once was a nice place, but not anymore! We recently had dinner at the Ye Olde Centerton Inn for my parents 50 anniversary. I can appreciate the rustic look and it's been in business since like forever. But there is no excuse for not keeping up with the place in terms of condition. This place needs a fresh coat of paint and the cob webs need to be cleaned. There was a huge hole in the ceiling (it seems like it was there for a while), other signs of water damage and it was very dimly lit. The service was verrry slooow, it took some time for someone to take our order. We were a party of 12, out of the 6 people who ordered a NY Strip steak, 5 had to go back because they were cooked improperly (took forever to get them back). I ordered the "The Governor's Pork Tenderloin" (This popular dish was named by The Press of Atlantic City as one of their top twenty entrees!) it was horrible and bland, there was no salt, no seasoning, no nothing! The only thing good about this place was the bread that was baked on-site. The other thing that annoyed us was the constant asking if we were done our meal and we had plenty of food still on the plate! They took my sons salad plate away before he was done; they asked my wife so many times that she finally folded and said take the plate since I can't enjoy it. We noticed they offered other customers a dessert menu and told them about each dessert that they had for the evening. When it came to us, they offered a "complimentary dessert" which was 3 plates of different assorted cookies and muffins. When my wife asked, do they have any more of a certain type of cookie, the server replied, "we cleaned out the fridge and this is all we have, we have given you all the chef made for the week!" I will never ever come to this establishment again! They also need to update the bathrooms and remove the picture of a plantation with the slave serving the British soliders!! read more

Decent restaurant in the boondocks. Always been a fan of the Ye Old as they have always been top notch. Not what they used to be, but still worth the trip. On this visit we had the bacon wrapped pork chop and the fish of the day. The pork chop was excellent. Highly recommend but also ask for the temp to be medium. The fish was just ok, wouldn't order that special again though. The salads were both excellent. I got the centerton salad which is loaded with garlic and flavored perfectly. The caeser is also great.. The twice backed potato is a great side. Cocktails are not at all under poured and worth the price(I never say that), Overall worth the visit and they have some great selections. Service is also great from the bar to the wait service. Just wish they would put some money into the place and fix it up a bit and have a little more consistency with their meals. Don't forget to try the Centerton Nuts! read more

My boyfriend and I went there this Saturday night, was skeptical at first but gave it a try. Should have went with our first instinct. When we arrived there was no host there at the desk and there were others waiting as well, took about 5 minutes. She told us there will be a wait, so we sat at the bar for 20 min. In that time the bartender never approached us and asked if we cared for a drink. I do know he's been there for 35 years and was very unprofessional and dressed like a bum. Big turn off!!!! A waiter over heard us and offered to take us upstairs, him name is Joe. He was great!!! Our appetizer was clams Italian , we were told the there was only 9 clams left. Really, on a Saturday night at 7:15, that's a disgrace when it opens at 4:30. Either way, was not worth 9.....it was over loaded with oregano... ugh. The centerton salad was so full of garlic.....so I don't see that being a signature. So now we are scared to see how our dinner was going to be. The crab imperial was good, but that's it. Joe our server made our night though!!! Great guy!!! At one point my boyfriend went to the restroom and a drunken patron rudely spoke to him, very disrespectful with his choice of words and actions for no reason. Meanwhile, the bartender of 35 years continued to serve him alcohol as he should have been flagged. Total disgrace and irresponsible of the bartender!!!!! Needless to say we will never be back!! Dust everywhere, crooked paintings and upstairs was cold. The place needs new carpet, screams clean me, as the wall paper is peeling off!! Also, no cable at the bar, was told they can't afford it, lol Was told a dvd can be put on, omg seriously A waste of money that we will never get back!! Poor customer service with a private event. Defensive, unyielding and plain unrealistic on behalf of the "manager/owner" of Ye Olde Centerton Inn. The event was scheduled to be a sit down meal for thirty guests for Saturday 6/15/17- A deposit was taken and accepted. But when the wedding planner requested that the menu be paired down to two entrees, dry salad with two family dressing style choices, and one $15 pp appetizer pp, w/ champagne toast for all, Joanne took offense to the idea that this was being set up like a banquet. We went to the Ye Olde Centerton Inn last night with another couple. The atmosphere was like we were in an old haunted house. Floors creaked, walls were old and dingy looking but that's ok, it adds character to the place. Our waiter (Andy) was pleasant and accommodating although he was new and didn't know to pour the wine for the entire party. He was still better then others I've had in classier places. The house salad was very good.. That's about the only compliment I can give on the food! I ordered chicken with shrimp, scallops and crabmeat over linguine.. When the food came out I was appalled and horrified at the presentation!! It was a dish full of linguine with so much red sauce over it there was no telling what was under it. Honestly it looked like someone vomited on the dish!! I found one piece of shrimp under the mound of sauce, there was possibly a small piece of chicken under there. I took about 5 bites. And had to stop, it had NO taste at all!! Absolutely AWFUL!! The WORST meal I've ever had!! I'm a fairly easy person to please when it comes to food. Had we not been with friends I would have sent the meal back as soon as it came out. My husband ordered the veal parm, it was slightly more presentable however not a whole lot!! In short it was way overpriced, quality of food was horrible. I would rather eat a burger from mcdonalds! For the $100.00 we spent after tip per couple it's a def NEVER AGAIN! read more

What once was a great restuarant 10 or so years ago has steadily fallen apart. Just the look of the building itself tells the care the owners must have. The exterior needs re-painting desperately, and the door to the kitchen looks to be held on with prayer. Shame this once glorious place has been run down so badly. I had over cooked rubbery scallops.
