Was not happy the last time we were here; but our daughter said she had the fixed price menu and it was "OK". Since she wanted to go, we thought we would give it another try. Huge mistake. My husband had pasta with chicken in a vodka sauce. I sampled the sauce. It tasted very unpleasant as also evidenced by the fact he left most of what was on the very small plate. I had a shrimp and pasta dish (same baby plate). The white sauce tasted what I imagine dirty dish water would taste like. No flavor and four small shrimp partially cooked, also tasteless. I left most of mine on the plate also. Never again. As usual, Maplewood never fails to disappoint! read more

Great service (friendly, helpful, attentive, professional) and delicious food. Old world ambience. The table bread is baked in house. Looks like a baguette but with rustic Italian flavor. Simply delicious! Fried oysters appetizer was very good - 3 large oysters with sauces. For $14 I think you should get 4 personally. Also had their "famous lobster bisque". It did have OK flavor, but the consistency was like pudding. Honestly, I was disappointed in it and wouldn't order it again. You get a delicious homestyle Italian salad to share family style with your entrées. I didn't realize that was coming or we wouldn't have had all the appetizers. The salad was fantastic! Definitely one of the highlights of the evening. For entrées, we had the shrimp and crab scampi with imported spaghetti and the stuffed shrimp. Definitely recommend the stuffed shrimp. Wasn't impressed with the scampi as the pasta was over cooked. One of the dessert options was banana cream pie made in house. It was so delicious and highly recommend. Old-fashioned diner experience. The interior is 70s-80s fancy. Food was good. Portions were generous. I got a half-order, and it was more than enough. My eggplant entree came with two sides, as did all meals. We all were served bread and salad (family style) as well. We enjoyed the bread. I was also impressed by the vegetable sides. The green beans were perfectly roasted and garlicky. The broccoli was fresh with garlic and lemon. Everyone in my party of four enjoyed their food. Service was EXCELLENT. To be honest, I've had better food at a diner. Braciole was nothing more than a minute steak wrapped around a meatball, SMOTHERED with marinara. Butterscotch dessert was too sweet, just vanilla pudding on a graham cracker crust with grainy butterscotch syrup on top. I'm so sad we went to Maplewood III of Vineland for Mother's Day because I remember the meatballs being to die for. We had reservations which specifically said a high chair. We get to the table, no highchair...not a problem we ask for one. We wait and wait for 10 minutes no highchair. The waitress comes over "oh they must have forgot" we keep waiting it's now been almost 20 minutes with no highchair. The server comes over again "oh they definitely forgot" like ok get it then??? We finally get a highchair. We order, bread and soup is delicious. High hopes for a great dinner. Food comes out, I ordered ravioli and meatballs, and Joey got chicken parm. Bella was sharing with us as well as French fries (which should have came out early but that's besides the point), my ravioli comes out COLD. I say something "are you sure" uh...yes why would I lie??? So they take it back and just put hot sauce on top whatever it's fine. To the meatballs....what I had been waiting on for over a week....complete mush, like they had been cooking for days. Disgusting. I literally gagged. A perfect dining experience is how I'd describe our experience. From the moment we were seated, we felt comfortable. The menu is extensive with something for everyone. Our waiter, Gavin, was both courteous and accommodating, answered our questions with respect to menu items and proffered suggestions for side dishes he thought we'd enjoy. For dessert my friend and split the banana crème pie with shaved chocolate which was highly recommended by our waiter and it didn't disappoint. As a closing comment, I'd like to say this particular Maplewood Restaurant in Vineland is now our favorite and we're already planning to come back on our next visit to the area. We came here on a Saturday night for dinner. Reservations were easy to make on Open Table. We were sat promptly and greeted by our server. We ordered drinks and wanted to sit and enjoy them before ordering our dinner. Our server was somewhat intrusive by constantly coming back and asking if we were ready to order. Sometimes people want to just sit and unwind before eating. We had to reiterate several times that we were not ordering until we finished our drinks. (minus one star). The rest of the evening was fantastic. The bread was served warm with a side of chopped roasted peppers in oil...delicious! We ordered the crab cake with side of homemade spaghetti and the cheese ravioli. Our meals were accompanied with a generous family style salad that was served prior to the meals. We would have liked more time between the salad and our meals. Our server never asked us if we wanted another drink after with our meals (minus one star). We had a nice evening. My only complaint and deduction for the stars is that we felt rushed. When going out to dinner we like to enjoy ourselves and our meals. Pacing is extremely important as we absolutely hate when our meals come out before we are even finished our salad. Otherwise, the food was good and our server was nice. We would try this place again. Ordered 4 takeout dinners on a Saturday night for pickup at 6pm. I arrived 10min early and paid. Everyone was friendly and upbeat. The place was busy. The girls were hustling to get people seated and get the numerous takeout orders ready to go. Dinner was delicious. My Joes Special Pasta was tasty and had fresh seafood. The portion was generous. My dad liked his veal- it had three pieces. He had requested to get veal piccata but had to stick to the menu. My mom liked the crab cake. There is one to an order. The entire order was packaged well. The salad had too much iceberg lettuce ratio to other greens and the iceberg pieces were too big. I was disappointed; it seemed cheap. The bread was ok. Hmmm, over two years later -- came back to this restaurant for my mother's birthday dinner. My experience was not as pleasant as I remembered the last time. Made reservations on OpenTable for a table of 6. Called in advance to see if they can give my mom dessert and sing HBD (which they did; thanks Eddie)! Maplewood decided to sit our table of 6 right next to the restroom (in the back corner). People were constantly in and out; a lot of traffic by our table. When we realized the restroom was right there (after being settled for several mins) -- they stated that there's no other tables available. We were the only black people in the restaurant. Was not fond of how this situation was handled at all. We all wanted my mom to enjoy herself and not focus on any negativity. Let me start by saying we've been dining her for years bringing our grown children here since they were babies. We sat at the bar. Had good service from Barry. The food was lacking. My husband and I shared seafood chowder. I've had this countless times here and it was terrible. The normal seafood was not in it. It was lacking and it was way too thick from excessive flour. The salad was good. My husband didn't like it because it had minimal vinegar & more oil. I prefer that to their normal ratio. Then we ordered the fried seafood platter. Wow! I do think it was left under heat lamps too long because it was way over done. It did take 25 mins to get after we had our bread, salad & soup. 3 others were served before us even though we were there longer.I have a picture to show the measly plate of fried seafood we got for $30. We sat down at 5:30 pm and didn't get our dinner until 8:10 We had appetizers- mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat that were not as good as I've had in previous years! Soup was disgustingly tomato lobster bisque. When we got dinner my Flounder was overcooked as my wife's shrimp was overcooked. Pasta was very bland and the sauce was not very good. Definitely not worth what I paid and I won't return anymore. I stopped going many years ago and figured I would try again and I see nothing has changed. Avoid and just go elsewhere! read more

We had lump crab cocktail, scallops and crab in white sauce over home made pasta, lobster and crab scampi over home made pasta. We took a dark side of the moon to go. The food was beyond delicious. Maplewood III was my favorite restaurant since the 80's when it was owned by Howard. I haven't been there in some time, but my son and his wife were visiting from KY and he wanted to take me and some other family members to dinner since he knew it was my favorite. It was a group of 11 on 8/8/25. I was so embarrassed. The food was horrible. The only thing good about that night was the service. 2 orders of mussels were ordered for the table. They used to come out in a huge bowl, now reduced to 2 tiny silver pots. Everyone complained that the mussels were rubbery and very large (not considered appetizer quality), I also ordered Pasta Fagioli which had wagon wheel pasta instead of the usual ditalini. Who puts wagon wheel pasta in Pasta Fagioli? When the main course arrived, 10 out of 12 people said their meals were way oversalted. One family member ordered steak that was so salted it looked as if a dusting of snow had fallen on it from all the salt. The waitress did take it back and they did bring a replacement back, but after most of us had finished our meals. Although less salted, he said it wasn't cooked to his direction but wasn't going to send it back again. Finally, most ordered coffee, which came out cold and the saving grace was the desserts that were ordered were good. It was also freezing cold at our table throughout the meal. Upon arrival, the restaurant was packed. Looks like this is a go to spot for dinner in south jersey! It has such an inexplicable South Jersey family dinner feel. I was pleasantly surprised because I had a great experience here at Maplewood III. We were a party of 12 celebrating an anniversary dinner. First let me say that our server Brian was great. Not over pushy, understood our needs and deserves a 5-star rating. Now onto the food- The appetizers were not what one the best- let's say 3-star, the stuffed mushrooms were watery in texture, the clam's casino were very small and the bacon piece over it was larger than the shells. Entree(s) Shrimp and scallops, red sauce- 4-star Shrimp Scampi-4-star Joe's Special-Well, this is where the biggest failure happened. Portion size 5-star, but there was something missing, oh yeah, FLAVOR- it was bland, it lacked the garlic flavor, although garlic slivers were there, just not enough (2 people had this meal) Desserts- 6-layer Carrot Cake-yes Cherry Pie- yes Biscotti-yes Banana Pie- not so much Atmosphere- Not to bad- if you are looking for a larger dining area, this is a good place-however, placement of restroom door to hallway where restrooms are- awkward. After several visits to this location, I have finally decided to place a review. I can say that the quality is very consistent and good. Although the food is very good, during my last visit, my steak was slightly overcooked. Didn't complain because it was still very good. I have always had wonderful service! Staff is very friendly and attentive. They are always very quick to bring you your drinks, refills, and food. There is usually a little wait for bar drinks but you eventually get them. Last night we went to the Maplewood for my dad's birthday and the staff made the experience great! Though they seemed to be short staffed our waitress Mariela was wonderful! She had a lot of tables that she had to attend to but she was always checking in on us when she could! When she couldn't another waiter Brian would and he was just as enjoyable! Rocco brought out our food out and was very kind. He made sure he got us whatever we needed and was a delight! You could tell they all wanted to make the guests feel welcomed and appreciated! I heard about this place and saw they had seafood,so I decided to check out. When I walked in, it felt like I had stepped into a time machine. The restaurant had a really old feel to it. I'm not sure if that was by design, but it definitely felt like I was in another decade. My food was okay, but the batter that was used for my soft shell crab and oysters were different that what I'm used to. I also ordered a cup of lobster bisque that was average. They serve complimentary bread with this dipping sauce, made with olive oil, that is really good. The service was good, the food was okay and the prices were a bit on the high side. Maplewood III is an Italian restaurant with its food appearing to have a Southern Italian influence as its base but with the added advantages of combing it with local New Jersey fresh seafood and produce. Its founder, Howard Esposito, had it spot on correct when he said "The restaurant business is a 1,000 little things that must all be done properly in order to ensure success," and Maplewood III proves his point. It's rather large very busy restaurant, but has a comfortable, enjoyable atmosphere about it with staff help being totally knowledgeable as well as professional. For my starter, I had their oysters casino, then a Caesar salad with anchovy, and for my main, I selected their lump crab with in house homemade spaghetti. The notation on the menu is small, but when dinning here, I would if ordering pasta, suggest requesting their homemade as opposed just receiving commercial pasta. My oysters casino came prepared with a good presentation, the oysters fresh with an overall taste that couldn't have been better. Then as for my lump crab spaghetti, the lump crab was the real thing and the spaghetti perfectly al dente. I note that some reviews complained of price, but with my restaurant price standards of South Florida, for me actually a bargain. read more

My companion and I tried the Maplewood III this evening for dinner. We were greeted and seated immediately even though we had no reservation. Our server John promptly provided us with menus, took our drink order, poured water and reviewed the specials (from memory which was impressive considering there were more than a half dozen!). For appetizers, my companion ordered Clams Casino and I had Mussels in Spicy Red Sauce. He said the clams were delicious. My mussels were somewhat small but there were 18 or more of them in a delicious sauce. There seemed to be more sauce than needed, but another server stopped by our table and asked if I wanted to have my remaining sauce packaged to take home. I never would have thought to ask but I agreed and am happy that I have a pint of sauce for home! Next we were served a generous bowl of salad which we shared. There was a nice mix of greens and other vegetables with a light vinaigrette dressing. My companion ordered Broiled Seafood Combination while I ordered Caramelized Salmon. His platter looked plentiful and he said all was cooked perfectly. My salmon was coated in the most delicious sauce. Yummy! Tonight was my first time here and everything was perfect. It's decorated really nice for Christmas and our server Dan completely exceeded our expectations for a family birthday dinner. This was once about the best place to dine in Vineland. Things have changed. Place was packed, and we had to wait at the bar about 20 minutes to be seated. The highlight of the experience was the pasta. Service was fairly good, but not as good as what built their reputation. Prices haven't increased as much as many other places, perhaps because they were high to begin with, but food quality and quantity has suffered. Seafood portions were very small and almost everything was more breading than seafood and massively overcooked. Overcooked seafood just isn't good. Side dishes seemed much like before, but when one of the sides I ordered wasn't available they just substituted without asking me first. Drinks seemed weak and watery. About $50 a person before drinks and dessert should get you better. Parts of the inside seemed neglected and shop worn I wish they had raised the prices more and kept up the quality that built their reputation 5-10 years ago. Vineland desperately needs a few more local better dining spots, especially for seafood. read more

Came here with a group of 8 on a Saturday. It wasn't busy and we had a reservation. The environment was nice, the bread was fresh baked, house salad was delicious. We ordered a dozen oysters and they were not fresh/low quality. Their filet mignon and lobster bisque were cooked well and tasty. The portions of the food were large and filling some people can share. Between 3 people we ordered capellini, shrimp and lobster scampi both w gluten free spaghetti. We were excited to try their homemade pastas however when they came, the GF pastas were barely cooked - hard and some were stuck together. We should have said something but opted not to as the sauce was making it a little softer and the waiter was giving us unfriendly vibes the whole time. I wish it was a better experience. Everyone in the place was over 70. And the food is SERIOUSLY overpriced. If I had been footing the bill I would have pitched a serious f-ing fit. It's just WRONG what they're doing at the Maplewood. And what I don't get is that a certain crowd of people around here think that the Maplewood is the next best thing since sliced bread. I just DON'T GET IT. I am in general a veggies and chicken kind of gal... I like healthy foods, asian fusion, foods that show a bit of creativity. Give me fresh herbs, thoughtful presentation... please just something that reflects and acknowledgement that the palattes of this generation is more diverse and sensitive than in years gone by. That's all I ask. But there is NOTHING on the menu for diners of my ilk. Nothing. If you don't like steak & seafood, you're BEAT! I knew I was in trouble when we were seated and the server sneered at my children. We perused the menu and I noticed that there is no beverage list printed on the menu. When the server returned for our drink order, I inquired as to what choices would be appropriate for the kids. She snippily replied "juice or soda." I asked her to be more specific, and she said "well which one do you want to know? the soda or the juice?" Her tone of voice was soooooooooo nasty. I was speechless. Later, my husband commented how embarassed he was by her behavior. She did soften as the night went on, but I have no respect for servers intolerant of children, especially well-behaved children. For starters, the salad is served family style... The tables aren't round, so that just doesn't work. And I'm a salad kind of person. I like a salad for a meal. But salads aren't a meal choice, so I was stuck eating the salad assigned to me by the powers that be. This place sells big hunks of beef called "STEAK" and this stuff that swims in the ocean called "SEAFOOD" and "ITALIAN FOOD" that involves pasta and red sauce. MY GAWD PEOPLE, PASTA WITH RED SAUCE DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT, EVEN IF YOU ARE OF ITALIAN DESCENT. ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, now that I got that out of my system... ahem. Okay, the pasta IS homemade and of good quality. I was impressed with that. However, what made me want to vomit is this: my children do not like red sauce. They like plain pasta with a bit of butter. The kid's pasta came SWIMMING in an inch of butter. Not joking. Each platter had about 3/4 of a stick of butter on it. I couldn't believe it. My husband and I were in shock when their plates came out. How a chef could have such flagrant disregard for the health of diners is beyond me. ANYONE can put a stick of butter on anything (poop, for example) and it would taste good. Holy crap! I got the gnocchi's with sauce on the side. The sauce was obviously homemade, but was meh... nothing special. Okay though. The gnocchi were bland. I've had storebought gnocchi that were better. I ordered a $7 side of broccoli rabe to drown the bland gnocchi in. That was a major improvement. Grandma had the veal parm, which looked tasty and she enjoyed. Poppop had the best looking meal of the night. He had a surf and turf with an assortment of goodies. His steak looked moist and flavorful. Since it was his choice of restaurants, and he's a steak and seafood guy, he really enjoyed his meal. But nothing, absolutely nothing they serve at the Maplewood is inspired. The check was $180 for a meal that only 3 of the 7 people in our party enjoyed. I will never, never, ever, never, never, never, never be cooerced to going back to this restaurant.
