What has happened at the Black Olive? We've enjoyed their food for many, many years. But in the last two weeks, I've had two dinners (take out) that were inedible. Last week it was a French dip, that tasted like it was bathed in jalapeño. I couldn't even finish half of it, and paid for the I'll effects I did eat for several hours. The next night, I heated up the other half, and couldn't eat it. And that's one of my favorite, frequent flyer meals from them. Last night, the split pea soup was so peppery, I couldn't even taste the peas! (The croutons were also overly peppered). Again, i order that frequently. Seems someone up there has a really heavy hand with the hot stuff. Unfortunately, looks like we're going to have to find a different 'go to' local place. A shame, we really (used to) like their food, the people, and usually ordered or visited at least once a week, but I'm done buying food just to throw it out. read more

I ordered a chicken and waffle and this is what I got????? Sliced (cold) chicken cutlet and a spongy waffle. The worst chicken and waffle I've ever had. I think this should be described in the menu because I would have never ordered this. read more

I've only been here a few times, but the food for our last visit was quite excellent. The Black Olive salad and the Black Olive grinder. I'm from Connecticut, so how could I not order the grinder ? Over the years, I've witnessed many restaurants fail at this location, but not this one. I've recently have gone there twice this past month. Once for takeout and another with colleagues from work. I ordered the chicken souvlaki once and a Caprese salad the other. Both were really good. The only thing that could made the salad better was Jersey tomatoes, but that's no fault of theirs. Not bad. My complaint when I come to this area is the menus in the local restaurants are enormous, and all offer the exact same food. A big menu means everything is generally from frozen or from a can, which usually means really bland or really salty. This place also has a large menu with the same offerings as everyone else, but the food was actually tasty and well made. Service was good. They are open a little later than other places too. Really, they are a 2.5 Food was on time, staff was friendly, and that is where the stars come from. The food was low quality, across the board, and while prices are cheaper by about 10-20% for what I have near my home, I found the quality and taste to be way lower than 10-20% worse. Fries are better at Wendy's. Black Olive uses a very cheap, basically hollow fry that has no substance or flavor. I felt like I was eating fried filler ingredients (like fried instant mashed potatoes). Reuben was a mess of low quality cheese, artificial-tasting dressing (that was way too sugary), and corned beef that might have been decent if not for its accompanying shady co-stars. Meatball Parm sandwich was pretty generic. Meatballs were more filler than meat, no real meat flavor. Canned-tasting marinara, and flavorless cheese. Unfortunately it was really disappointing and not at all in keeping with their Yelp rating. read more

Apparently this has been here for some time. But I was recently in town and decided to have lunch on a Sunday while the Eagles were playing. It was not packed and is a BYOB establishment. However, there's a liquor store right next door. I had a party of 4 and we were undecided about what to order, breakfast or lunch but after looking at the regular menu and then the breakfast menu, we decided on lunch. We ordered an open face roast beef w/fries, crab cakes (4 came w/meal) w/fries, smothered pork chops and a turkey Ruben w/fries. The food was very good. Everyone commented on how well everything tasted and large portion that we received. Enough for the 3 of us to have enough for later. The fries were the best..nice and crispy and perfectly cooked. The price worked out to be about $20 a person. I can't say anything negative about the service. She was attentive and helpful with questions asked. She seemed to be pleasant and was engaging w/us. read more

Haven't been here for a while. Never thought it was that great. So yet another disappointing breakfast place near me. We got omelettes and a cup of fruit instead of potatoes and toast. 3 egg omelettes? Did they use quail eggs? Very small. I got a Philly Cheesteak Omelette. More mostly raw green peppers than steak. How do places have a "steak" omelette with hardly any steak. Fruit looked ok but since it had grapefruit throughout everything tasted sour and bad. $2.50 up charge for a crappy cup of fruit is ridiculous. Wont be back. read more

We love it here! The pizza is the best! The Florentine pizza is my favorite and the black olive salad omg so good. The portions of everything are huge. They have daily specials. Tonight I got the Chicken Bruschetta which was delicious. The chicken was so tender it melted in my mouth. My kids love their pizza and their Meatballs. We also order from here everytime we have a party with pizza and trays of pasta. Everything is good! read more

The Black Olive was suggested to us by friends so my wife and I went there with four others. Around 6 pm we arrived without reservations. It was packed so we had to wait around 15 minutes; no big deal. Once seated and given a menu to peruse, I noticed that the offerings were enormous. You had choices of hot or cold subs, paninis, open face sandwiches, salads, strombolis, pizza, veal, chicken, etc. etc. I decided on a special that night. I think it was called the Italian combo. It consisted of gnocchi, ravioli, manicotti, mozzarella, with sausage in a red sauce. The portion was enormous and the food was good but not good enough to recommend. I've been happy with Black Olive, until now. Nothing to do with the food or service, but if you order takeout there is a new machine that asks for a tip. Ok, fine, but there you are, standing in front of the cashier & expected to tip. Last takeout was less than $20 and machine added a $6 tip. Person picking up takeout got confused by the new machine. I consider this to be kind of rude. I'm always a generous tipper, but this is ridiculous. read more

Very clean restaurant. Large portions! Ordered special of Blackened Chicken Spinach Salad with Raspberry Vinigarette- was very good. Others ordered: Prime Rib Panini- opinion was it needed more flavor for persons liking, but good. Chicken Parm Platters -are always a hit. Wings are good, Burger ordered was decent. Service was great for our party of 10. We arrived at 2pm on a Saturday and the place was not crowded. Getting busier when we left around 415pm. Impossible to have the food fresh prepared. Didn't take more then 10 minutes to get our order to our table. The soup was okay; not delicious. I believe was Progresso soup. The angel hair pasta tasted as pre packed noodles . ( 3 minutes on microwave) Expensive .for the quality of food. We ordered two plates and two waters and paid $70 We called to make reservation and the attendant was really rude.
