Greek salad with chicken
Mallory B.

Great diner experience! I ordered the Greek salad with chicken -- it was a large, satisfying portion and very tasty. It came with warm pita bread and flavorful dolmades on the side, which was a nice touch. Fresh, filling, and delicious!

5/16/24 I highly recommend this restaurant. My friend has dined here many times so we stopped on our way to beautiful Diamond Beach for dinner. I ordered the Tour of Italy entree for just 18.99-it came with lasagna, a meatball and chicken parm. It was outstanding. Along with that I got a bread basket, salad, and dessert all included. The only disappointment to me was the salad and dinner rolls-there was slightly rusted lettuce. It was so minor I did not bring it to our server's attention. The cornbread in the bread basket was almost like a dessert!! Sweet and moist. I had planned to take the rolls home but they were stale- hard and dry. My friend ordered the chicken cordon bleu panini. It was crammed with lots of blue cheese. It sure looked decadent and she enjoyed it very much. With my dinner it came with jello or pudding. Pudding was rice, tapioca, vanilla or chocolate (and maybe one other)?! I got the rice pudding to go. I've not tried it but it sure looks great. Jimmy was our server. Excellent service. He was friendly and personable. I'm glad I tried Maurice River Diner- I would certainly go back. I have driven by it more times than I can count! The diner is classy and clean. It's a large building and decorated elegantly! I just had the best time and the food is delicious- I would go back in a New York minute!

Gosh, I miss these sort of diners. We don't have many of them in Charlotte. A menu the size of a Bible with everything from fried fish to spanakopita and breakfasts from pancakes to benedicts. I was warmly welcomed on a Sunday morning at 7:45 am and shown to a table immediately. The place did start to fill in over the next two hours or so and when it started to look like people were going to be waiting, I took my laptop and headed onwards. Breakfast this morning was a ham and cheese omelet. Perfectly assembled, a large portion and yes, I did eat one or two bits of the excellent potatoes on the side. Man, they looked good and tasted better. Keto be damned (for this morning). [Review 18230 overall - 106 in New Jersey - 1752 of 2022.]

Let's hear it for a South Jersey Diner that is what a South Jersey Diner should be!! Thank you Maurice River Diner for being the only Diner that I know of in South Jersey that I'd give a 5 Star Rating! Our family stops here often while traveling on RT. 47 on our way to the Shore, today it was just my wife and I traveling to the Shore. We only went down for a few hours, to starting getting the house ready for the summer. My wife sent the kids a text letting them know to DoorDash whatever they wanted because we're stopping at Maurice River Diner on our way home. The lawn and landscaping is always well kept and the building is welcoming. When you walk in you notice that the inside is modern and clean. MRD has a classic Jersey Diner Menu just about anything you may be in the mood for you can get it here. Breakfast, Lunch or Diner are available all day. Immediately upon being seated we were greeted by our waitress, she was very pleasant as she took our drink order. She returned quickly with our drinks and we placed our dinner order. My wife ordered Tomato Crostini Soup (think bruschetta as a soup, forgot to take pic but I found one on the web that I'll post) and Chicken Piccata I ordered the Crab Bisque and the Veal Parmigiana. We didn't wait long for our our soups. Good news is we both enjoyed them very much, bad news is we ate them so fast I forgot to take a pic! In true great Jersey Diner fashion our dinner was served right after finishing our soup. You're not waiting for food at MRD. My wife enjoyed her dinner very much she told me she ranks the MRD Chicken Piccata in her top 2! She found it to be flavorful and filling. For me it's difficult to find very good Veal Parmigiana if I'm not at a Mom and Pop Italian restaurant. But, remember I said in the beginning that, "MRD is what a South Jersey Diner should be" and that means the have large menus and everything on that menu is good! My Veal Parmigiana was perfectly covered in sauce and cheese, it had just the right about of breading to Veal and I enjoyed that slight crush I got in every bite. The size was old school big, it took up half of the large plate that it was served on. I typing this review at home, we ate just 3 hours ago. I was stuffed when we left but typing this review makes we want to go back, tomorrow! MRD has a beautiful dessert selection and I never leave without ordering cheese cake but today I was to stuffed so I ordered a slice for the road. If you travel RT. 47 to the Shore and you've never made a stop at MRD you are missing out. Do yourself a favor and plan for a little extra time and give MRD a try, I'd be very surprised if you don't leave full and satisfied.

Classic diner, nice and clean and bright inside. We stopped here for brunch en route to the East Point Lighthouse during the Lighthouse Challenge Weekend. We had French toast and a blt. Both were excellent and served promptly so that we could continue on with the challenge well-fortified.

Linguine and clams

Wonderful service and food. Huge portions! Very pleased. So much food. The clams and linguine had so many clams.

The food here was sensational. The service here was tremendous. Everything was on point from start to finish. I would certainly come here every time I pass through. The pancakes were perfect.

The Maurice River Diner in Down Jersey

New Jersey is often called (and rightfully so) the Diner Capital of America.  And one of my favorite diners is a diner I pass often en route to the Jersey Cape from Philly.  It's in Down Jersey and it is appropriately named the Maurice River Diner after the nearby Maurice River. It is great. First of all, it is quite large with several dining areas.  It is kept so clean.  The menu is extensive and always up-to-date.  They have free WIFI.  The service is efficient and friendly and (drumroll) perhaps best of all - the food is tasty! Recently I did stop en route heading down to Strathmere on the Cape and I was well rewarded.  The beef barley vegetable soup was a perfect starter - only perhaps a few degrees hotter would have been my preference. The meatloaf, cheese, and spinach ciabatta sandwich board totally hit the spot and I highly recommend it.  It also comes with creamy cole slaw, pickles, and a generous serving of French Fries. Gus my waiter hails from Northern Greece so we could discuss missing Europe together.  He was excellent as a server as well.  And on Sundays they have something I have never tried but I hope to someday called Pot Roast.  Can't wait to see what this dish reminds me of. The Maurice River Diner is a complete winner in my book and worth a stop if hungry going to and from the shore.

She was attentive and friendly. In addition to their regular menu, they had a special valentine's centric menu. This made it difficult to choose because we had also been given recommendations from friends on what to order. We settled on French onion soup (delicious), Caesar salad and the filet special from the valentines menu which was accompanied by the creamiest butteriest smashed potatoes (note the menu said mashed but I consider any mashed that contains the skins of the potatoe a smashed potatoe) and asparagus with a reduction. The food was very good. I can't use the term exceptional until I have made more visits - which we will certainly do. I also treated myself to the chocolate strawberry martini. Delicious ! We also had the chocolate mousse topped with fresh whipped cream and strawberries for desert. It will go on my top 10 desserts I ever ate list for sure. Needless to say that kitchen is pushing out some fantastic food. The bar is putting out quality pours and cocktails. I would also be remiss if I didn't state that they also had a live guitarist singing and he was good - I didn't catch his name though. Can't give them a 5 star until we dine again ... Thanks local tavern for a great experience!

My wife and I used to work at an iconic eatery in phila called Taylor's country store and both of us looked at each other and said we get the same vibes. The decorations were just what you'd hope for in an eclectic little restaurant. Located on the edge of the villas maybe 15 mins from wildwood and cape May if you're visiting down the beach or shore don't sleep on this place. Now for the food we were looking for lunch we have our go to spots but wanted to change it up and I'm so glad my wife chose TBD. Has a great menu with something for everyone. I got a hot roast beef because it's one of my favorites. Side of fries hand cut. First the sandwich was everything I had hoped for I go a couple Roast beef sand places but this has shot to the top. Gravy on the side is how it came and it was just what the sand was meant for ciabatta roll soaked it up perfectly, no prob I'm not a fan of the disintegrating gravy sand I like to control the gravy. Roast beef was thick but not out of control thick, didn't need sharks teeth to bite through it. And not any gristle which definitely mattersHorseradish on the side a little bite not your make your nose run hot but hot enough. Hand cut fries delicious crispy hot and a perfect pairing to dip in the gravy. The pickle was exactly how you want a deli pickle to be crunchy fresh and sharp flavored w real dill I will say it again perfect . My wife had the burger it was huge tasty I know because I had half the right amount of everything. She chose the fresh homemade chips they were marvelous too I know because I grudgingly gave up a few fries to have some chips. It was big enough she said she would be skipping dinner. Anyway it's the kind of place you leave saying I can't wait to go back and try the other choices because you know they will all be made with culinary care and taste great. Don't step nod or miss this place. Being on weight watchers I know I'm gonna regret finding it, but you shouldn't it's on rt 47 the sign w the two black dogs sorry no pics of the food but I was hungry and scarfed it down before thinking

Always a favorite to bring out of town guests for just a slightly different dining experience…read more I've brought people from California, northern Nevada, upstate NY and now, from Ireland. As always, the fried calamari did not disappoint. Love, love, love. The fresh mussels are always top notch with tasty broth and that mix of chunky tomatoes and slightly spicy but flavorful chorizo is a favorite with our table. And on a cold day, the crab bisque was exactly what I was craving. The Irishman just wanted a grilled salmon, and though it wasn't on the weekend lunch menu, the kitchen obliged and he enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the server accidentally spilled soup on the Irishman's brand new $400 Barbour coat. Yikes. No worries, we cleaned it up and told the guy not to worry about it. The server still felt bad about it and comped us our coffees and a dessert we split between three.

The clams casino and class Mexicali were passable but not particularly flavorful. The octopus in the octopus salad was rubbery rather than tender. The oyster po' boy was the anomaly and was delicious, full of oysters and a nice remoulade. The staff was either dense in the head or rude trying to seat a disabled person in a power chair in an already crammed corner of a full dining room rather than in the very empty adjacent room. The place needs a thorough cleaning (floors super sticky) and the rest rooms are not accessible although there is a hidden one somewhere on site as was discovered but it was found to be without any heat on this 40F day. Nice views of the marsh.
