We visited Del's Grill on the Ocean City Boardwalk near 10th Street for the first time. The staff were incredibly nice and our waitress, Brooke, was very attentive. The ambiance was perfect--quiet with medium-volume beach music playing, giving it a beachy and surfer vibe. The menu offers plenty of options, and the inside was very clean. I ordered a burger and asked for it medium-rare, but since they serve "smash" burgers, it was cooked well done. Despite this, the burger was fantastic! The fried onions and bacon added a great kick. Watch out - they cheat you. I ordered 2 sandwich's which were to come with pickles the I asked about pickles on a third sandwich. When I picked up the order, I found they were charging $1.50 for extra pickles. I was in a rush, so paid for them. But when we got to eat, found out there were NO pickles in the first two sandwiches and that the extra order of pickles was only two pickle slices. Not highway larceny, but not honest With regard to the food, not including promised pickles left sandwiches sort of flat. I had called in the order snd it was ready on time. That's about the only good thing I can say I do not plan on returning. Too put off by being overcharged and shortchanged. I give one star because I cannot go lower. read more

I got the big misteak cheesesteak, I rode a bicycle down from the St James place beach. My daughter had recommended it from the other night when she was at Dels and it looked wonderful. The seeded roll impressed me enough to give them a shot. When I got there I learned you could not eat in for take out orders which I thought was a bit ridiculous especially since there were about 15 of the 20 tables available. I have been coming to Del's since The owner Tracey was a waitress and it has always been good. The tableside service is fast , friendly and efficient. They keep the place extremely clean which has always been a hallmark of the place. It's one of the few places on the boardwalk that is air conditioned so it's always a pleasant temperature come the heat of the summer. They have a pretty diverse menu of a boardwalk resteraunt but cheesesteaks are the staple. They make a good product which is impressive because there are a lot of good cheesesteak restaurant in OCNJ. Plenty of other choices but remember it's all grilled. I have had shrimp, chicken, crab cakes over the years and it was always good. Prices seem fair. The only complaint my fellow diners ever had is that they replaced the skinny fries with thick fries. Doesn't affect the review but impacts the nostalgia. Well worth the visit read more

The saving grace for Del's is that it's right on the boardwalk and it offers a pretty big menu and space for a sit-down dinner. On a boardwalk where most options seem to either be sweets or pizza, this is definitely a needed restaurant! Servers are friendly and are on top of service so that tables can get turned quickly. The food is just average though. I had a cheesesteak with provolone and onions which was OK but it was a little not skimpy on the meat and that really made the sandwich seem kind of dry with it tasting like it was just a lot of bread. I will say that the old bay fries were SO good though! Definitely get those. They had a great crispness to them and the seasoning was perfect. I finally returned to Ocean City after not vacationing there for years and decided to stop at Del's for lunch. As a kid I always remember Del's having really good cheesesteaks, but my last time there I decided to try something different so I went for the soft shelled crab sandwich. I am very unhappy with Del's. We've been there many times over the summer and the food and service was very good. But this last time, the service was bad, never got our food. They took our order and then promptly forgot us. Kept saying that our order was coming. Literally just 3 burgers and fries. After about 40 minutes and watching at least 3 tables of people get there food before us.....mind you they had come in after us and one table had 6 people at it.....we paid for our drinks and told them to cancel our order. I don't know why this place has four stars but I came here with a group late at night and it looked like it was close to closing time. We ordered coconut shrimp regular shrimp fried lobster tail and clam strips. Everything was drenched in oil and tasted horrible we tried to eat because we were starving. The waitress asked if everything was good and my I said the clam strips were horrible and she was nice enough to take it off. The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because of the staff they were super nice and patient with us. Add extra half star for better than average and friendly service. It was a small hole in the wall on the boardwalk you could easily walk past. It is a narrow space but it got a bit larger past the end of the counter. Looked like they replaced the floor tiles and kick panels probably from storm damage. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Once the order was taken and if you need something it may involve getting a flagman or flailing your arms like someone in need of ocean rescue to get their attention from the staff speaking with one another. My GF had a juice where she found the junk at the bottom she thought may have been mold or something dark that looked like it floating near the bottom. She had to ask to replace it. The food was seafood along with some Philly steak type sandwiches. The taste was average. Nothing to knock your socks off nor send you to the nearest infirmary. Open front. Restroom in the rear. We had no wait. The food took a little longer than average to arrive. The ambiance was basic shore establishment eatery you'd find along the boardwalk. If you want restaurant service we discovered after we ate already there were perhaps two sit down better than standard boardwalk type enclosed restaurants down towards the higher number streets on the boardwalk. Why was I in New Jersey? Oh yeah we were here to visit our friend at UPenn and take him to the beach. Why were we in Ocean City, NJ? Oh yeah we thought it would be better to go to a family-friendly beach as opposed to seeing the Situation and the rest of the Jersey Shore cast in Seaside. Did you hear about how Snooki and Governor Christie don't get along because he thinks she is "bad" for New Jersey? Met my expectations for filling up my stomach during a day at the beach. As most of the other reviews say, this is a no-frills sit-down, not amazing, not terrible. I ordered a crabcake sprinkled with blue cheese which added a kick, but as for my friend who ordered a cheese steak, it was a bit bland. Waiting for your order does take a while, so if you're in a hurry I would suggest finding another place along the boardwalk. It was confusing though because she disappeared to eat her own lunch at the same time, so we kinda didn't get checked on after our food came. Finally, I heard a man order something and mention "hold on the onions". Some older guy walked away after hearing this and said "it doesn't even come with it" looking annoyed and angry and muttering something under his breath. Maybe I misunderstood or heard wrong, but the people at this place didn't seem real happy or friendly. Maybe that dude was allergic to onions. Who knows. But, why care so much dude? I read another review on here that said: "Rude and extremely limited menu. I don't get why it's so crowded. There is much better food on the boardwalk." I think that about sums it up - plus when the owner has a sign that says, "You get it my way or you don't get a damn thing" clearly has another agenda. It's about as basic as you can get. For instance, the last time I went I ordered the honey mustard chicken sandwich which consisted of an unseasoned grilled chicken breast on a bun with a little packet on honey mustard on the side. I mean, if they aren't going to spread the mustard on before they serve it they could at least give me a plastic knife, ya know? I will say the side of sweet potato fries were really good - some of the best I've ever had. I'm still a little confused as to how going to Del's every summer became a tradition for our family over 20 years ago. Well, "no frills" is the best way to describe this place but overall it satisfied my hunger. I had the beach salad which was completely adequate, less the two baby carrots... I thought they were fingers at first. I know that sounds stupid but when you lift up a piece of lettuce, it can be startling, especially when it has the skin still on it. Anyway, aside from that it tasted good. My boyfriend had a chicken cheesesteak and wasn't bowled over. It was small and lackluster, like the other reviews said, but it was okay enough.
