The V I is famous for their baked tomato soup, and it is justified, the delicious soup is like a French onion soup but with tomato, creamy with small bits of diced tomato, topped with cheese, and garlic croutons, what's not to like. Get their combo soup, and grilled cheese, pure lunchtime heaven...

Disappointed and Discriminated - Denied Entry Due to My Service Animal I'm deeply disappointed with my recent experience at Varsity Inn. I arrived with my fully trained and clearly identified service animal, who assists me with a medical condition. Despite calmly explaining the legal rights surrounding service animals, the staff/owner refused us entry, claiming "no pets allowed." This is not only incorrect--it's a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Businesses are legally required to allow service animals that are trained to perform tasks related to a person's disability. The refusal showed a clear lack of training and understanding of the law, as well as a lack of basic compassion and respect. What makes this even more frustrating is that the restaurant has a sign right on the door that says "Service Animals Only". Clearly, they understand the law well enough to post it, but not enough to actually follow it. The hypocrisy and lack of proper staff training are extremely concerning. I had been looking forward to dining here (again as we were allowed to dine with my service dog here the year before) but instead left feeling humiliated and frustrated. I hope the owner takes this seriously and educates their staff so no one else has to go through this experience. Until then, I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone--especially those in the disability community. We left and walked a few blocks over to "Hooked on Breakfast" where we were more than welcome and enjoyed an amazing breakfast.

Spent a nice October day on the OC boardwalk and decided to grab a meal somewhere new. Name like Varsity Inn makes it tempting to try it out. Wait staff was very nice and seated us right away. Greeted with waters and a very nice run down of the menu & specials. Inside there are plenty of seating available to make wait not long. You can people watch from the bar top seating facing the street. Plenty of different options to choose from and from the look of the dishes that were coming out of the kitchen, they all looked delicious. The breakfast options seemed to be the highlight. The quesadilla was packed with great flavor chicken, tomatoes & cheese. Crisp on the outside with sour cream dippings on the side. The tomato soup was excellent and some of the best soups I've tasted. On top is a thick layer of cheese and inside is garlic bread chunks inside the thick cream tomato soup. Grilled cheese was pretty basic white American cheese. Great combo and filling.

Best tomato soup and believe it or not I don't even like tomato's. The five star French bread French toast is another one of my favorites.

Went with my dad for breakfast at 8, we really enjoyed sitting outside at the big garage windows and barstools. Food came quickly and really hit the spot. My dad had Aunt Helen's Favorite omelet (has kielbasa in it!) and I had Breakfast Special #1. Pancakes were great and my dad said the breakfast potatoes were nice and crispy. Our server was quick and kind! Place was not too busy. Great breakfast spot!

New owners running this establishment Ordered soup....never got it. When told server (owners son) we didn't get soup the comment was ...don't know what's going on in the kitchen... no apology just walked away. Asked to speak to manager (who is the owner) And as an apology gave us a soup to go. An hour later went to have the soup which he gave me with shredded cheese to put on top. There was a rancid smell and then looked at soup with cheese on top and it was all moldy Called the restaurant and owner was rude and unapologetic

It's not an Ocean City family vacation without multiple trips to Kessel's! During our week at the…read moreshore, we visited Kessel's three times: takeout on our first night, ice cream mid-week, and an early dine-in dinner before heading home. As always, each of our three experiences this July were fantastic, with our last shining the most. We typically do take-out on night number one, and like in years past, the food is always ready on time and prepared as ordered. We ordered an array of items including Cheesesteaks, Chicken Caesar Wrap, Burgers, Grilled Cheese, Fries, and Onion Rings. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The line stretched around the side of the building the night we stopped for ice cream, but it moved quickly. Staff efficiently took orders, prepared cones and sundaes, and kept the line moving despite the large crowd. While take-out is always great from Kessel's, I will always prefer dining in! You really can't beat the old-school diner vibes and decor, and the service is outstanding. Julia, our server, did an incredible job with our party of 7. She was highly attentive, frequently checked in, and really added to our experience. My Cheesesteak Hoagie with hot peppers may have been my favorite thing I've ordered from Kessel's to date, but it's hard to go wrong with anything on the menu. The burgers and wraps are also solid choices. I also ordered a fresh Peach Sundae and I highly recommend! Julia even made my sundae herself in addition to waiting tables, and it tasted every bit as good as it looked. Absolutely picture-worthy! Kessel's is a cash-only establishment, but for seven people--including sandwiches, burgers, wraps, multiple orders of fries, and a few desserts--the total was just over $100. That's an incredible value especially at the Jersey Shore. Kessel's will always be a staple of our family vacations and continues to be a highlight for our nieces. If you've yet to experience breakfast, lunch, dinner, or just an ice cream sundae from this adorable, little, retro-feeling diner, please pay them a visit. I think you'll be glad you did.

After making a once around in this area to see what they had to offer I came back to this establishment to dine for the evening. Upon entry I was greeted warmly and timely. I was immediately led to an actual table and had menu in hand. This was nice, just because I am dining alone doesn't mean I want to sit at a bar and feel separated from the rest of the building. I had some time to look over the menu before the server arrived. I made it simple for him as I already knew exactly what I wanted, from drink to appetizer to entree. I just stayed with water for the meal as I wasn't in the mood for anything sweet. For my appetizer I went with the Soft Pretzel and the entree was the Hangover. The Soft Pretzel is basically your jumbo pretzel. This comes served with honey mustard and cheese sauce for dipping. When this came out on the hook, it was piping hot and had the right amount of pretzel salt. This thing is massive and could easily serve as a meal for one. I picked at it until my burger came out. I also ended up taking a lot of this back to my room for snacking later in the evening. When my burger showed up I was not disappointed. As a side note, burgers are served with fries, but you can upgrade the side if you like. But at $3 for a small upgrade, no thank you, a different type of potato or a salad doesn't equal that much money. That is just my opinion. Off my soapbox now, let's discuss the burger. The Hangover is typically an 8 oz. patty freshly ground in house everyday. You can substitute for a turkey burger, black bean burger, or grilled chicken at no charge, but have to pay for a side upgrade...I digress. This particular burger is topped with an over easy egg, bacon and American cheese. More of a breakfast burger than a hangover cure to me. This thing was one of the best patty to bun ratio burgers I have ever had. I was pleasantly surprised that the patty actually looked a bit bigger than the bun. When you pop the yolk of the egg, that just adds a bit more flavor to the burger. Perfectly cooked to your liking, the bacon was crispy, they egg made it messy and the cheese held it all together. The fries were a perfect match to this, even though they make it seem like they are the basic side to this dish. If you are a yolk person, the fries are a great vessel to get any that may have dropped to the plate. I made sure to finish this and try to look like I wasn't shoving it my mouth at the same time. It was delicious. My server was excellent. Checked on me the appropriate amount of times. Was attentive to my needs and I didn't feel rushed in my dining experience. Much better than other places.

They also have a great $25 dinner special on the weekends, however we weren't looking to eat that heavy. But the live music on weekends at 7pm brought me in without the specials. We started with a down East blackberry cider $8, and a wanderback Hugo pilsner $7. We took our time sipping slowly while the band's set up and began to play. I think our server was more eager for us to make a food order than we were to eat yet. But when we finally did order, we chose a Tennessee Avenue tycoon salad and the "Phish" grilled fish tacos on corn tortillas. The salad was fresh but ordinary, with grilled chicken, blue cheese, egg and bacon. Spouse opted for some sort of orange dressing instead of the normal avocado dressing, perhaps it was the same one I loved on the fish tacos, a chipotle aoli. The Phish tacos were on soft corn tortillas that needed more time on the flat grill with a little oil to crisp them up! The fish was nice and white with good sized pieces in each taco. The cabbage slaw inside was wet, mashed avocado and so was the aoli, so a little gloppy but good even if it fell apart. These tacos are normally served with a side of chips, so I asked what options I had besides potato. Our server happily volunteered a grilled vegetable side which I loved until I found out it was an $8 upcharge of which he didn't inform me when ordering. That's an extreme amount, for not advising the customer prior. We stayed for a second round, I had another blackberry cider because it was delicious. Spouse switched to the Blue Horizon Kolsch, but apparently it was high test because it was $10. It was a lovely evening but, room for improvement. The band was fantastic, played all our favorites and we stayed a lot longer as a result of the great weather and the lovely picnic tables in the "garden". The beer hall has done a great job making this a fun hangout!

I stopped in for dinner around 6:15 PM and, as always, the atmosphere was welcoming. There's indoor seating, a full bar, and a fantastic outdoor space complete with games, a fire pit, and one of the best music playlists in town--often accompanied by live entertainment. It's the kind of place where locals and visitors naturally mix together, creating a fun and friendly energy. One thing that always makes me smile is the sign when you walk in explaining that the bartenders and servers may be outside and asking guests to let them know they've arrived. Honestly, who could blame them? With the fresh salt air coming off the Atlantic Ocean and the outdoor atmosphere they've created, it's exactly where I'd want to be too. Tonight I ordered the crab cake platter, served with garlic French fries and coleslaw. The crab cakes were very good, packed with flavor, and the fries were crispy, garlicky, and absolutely delicious. A simple meal done right. Everything was fresh and appealing, I eat small portions so I took one crab cake and some fries home with me. I did ask about dessert, nothing was available, I don't do sweets frequently, I'm surprised they don't request Momma Chocolate, at Bar32 to make some extras for days they are closed. My server, Bella, was upbeat, bubbly, and attentive throughout the evening, adding to an already enjoyable experience. Parking is easy, with both free and paid options nearby, plus curbside access. Whether you're a local looking for a regular hangout or a visitor exploring beyond the casinos, Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall is well worth the short walk from the Boardwalk. Highly recommended for good food, cold drinks, great music, and some of the best local vibes in Atlantic City.
