Not your average breakfast joint! My wife's family has been vacationing in Ocean City for years and this was everyone's first visit to Hooked on Breakfast. One of the servers who knows our niece suggested we stop by for breakfast during her shift and recommended we come before 8 am as it gets busy. By the time we arrived (after 8 am lol) our only option was to sit outside, otherwise the wait would've been 45 minutes--she was right. When I say I'm not a breakfast person, I don't mean I dislike breakfast foods. I just don't enjoy eating early in the day. This did not stop me from looking through pictures on Yelp and Google (Wow! Everything looked delicious!) and through the menu which had some very intriguing options including Woody's Scrap Pile, Cannoli Pancakes, and Breakfast Sushi (only on Tuesdays) just to name a few. The menu has all your typical breakfast foods and combos you'd find at any diner or breakfast joint, but then there are also much more unique, elaborate "craft" options that really make this menu stand out. Our server, who is also a teacher in my niece's school, was great. She was friendly, attentive, professional, frequently checked in, and was especially good with the kids, offering crayons and their choice of colored straws. While I didn't eat, my 5 star rating is based on the service (of course), the coffee, and unanimous positive remarks from around the table. I really liked the coffee mugs. They were large (larger than your average coffee mug), sturdy mugs that were filled nearly to the brim with piping hot coffee. My wife got the Sour Dough Delight--grilled sour dough topped with bacon, goat cheese, arugula, balsamic reduction (which she skipped) and two eggs (any style). She loved it and told me she'd absolutely order it again after she tries the Avocado Naan. Guess we're coming back at least twice more lol! Our table also had an Omelette, a breakfast sandwich, and French Toast. Everyone enjoyed their food and the portion sizes were huge--I don't think anybody finished their plate. While I did think the prices were fair, especially for the quality and quantity of food served, the online menu hadn't been updated to reflect current prices. I can see why they get as busy as they do and why they've received so many 5 star reviews. I'm sure Hooked on Breakfast will be added to our list of stops on our annual Ocean City family vacation after our experience this July. read more

We had to drive our son down to O. C. at the last minute. After dropping him off we wanted breakfast, and found Hooked on Breakfast. the staff was very friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was bright and relaxed, and the food was very good. Everything was fresh and appealing. If they have their special running, and you love pancakes, give their blueberry lemon pancakes with blueberry butter a try. Stupid good!! Highly recommend a visit! read more

Guys, seriously??! You're calling this place a good breakfast? Have you tried real breakfast places before? I guess in OC, there's not many choices. Corned beef has was decent but the waffles, if you like the taste of old oil or don't mind it, maybe it's decent but bleh. Do they even clean the waffle irons at the end of the day? Fruit is basically rotting, somewhat fresh. The size is not the size of a real "Belgian" waffle and it's not crispy at all but rather soggy. 2 stars based on what I ordered is very fair. read more

Nice little breakfast place in downtown OC. Service was great. The food was just ok. For me breakfast is either ok at best, or bad. My omelette was just ok. The cheese was not fully melted so I was basically putting raw shredded cheese in my mouth. The silver dollar pancakes (a nice option instead of toast and potatoes) were great. What makes or breaks a breakfast spot for me is the coffee. This coffee had to be the worst yet. It completely lacked any flavor - I didn't know that was even possible! I'll never understand why establishments serve cheap coffee. I understand it is a capital expensive business, but this is a corner that should not be cut. I'm not expecting Starbucks, but something above what tastes like it was bought off a pallet at a warehouse big-box store. I'll return for the pancakes, but enjoy my coffee beforehand at the nice coffee shop directly across the street. read more

Disappointing... we were rushed by staff from the minute we walked in. As soon as we received our food we were asked about 5 minutes later if we were finished yet, many times by many staff members. Not a relaxing or enjoyable breakfast. Drinks were not refilled (water). When it came to tip time suddenly the server asked if we wanted drinks to go. Pancakes were just okay, wouldn't order them again there. We asked for bacon instead of sausage on one of our meals and were rudely told "NO SUBSTITUTIONS!". Which was shocking. Not very hard to switch meats on top of eggs. We were not happy with our experience, and won't be returning. There are so many amazing breakfast places in OCNJ, don't feel like we need to come here again. read more

We started coming to this establishment a few years ago whenever we were in town. This morning is the last time we will visit. The dishes were cold, and what had to be the smallest portions I have ever gotten at a breakfast spot. Yikes! It's not clear why this place gets good reviews - we came here about lunchtime on a January weekday afternoon. The girl at the front desk was surly, but the waitress was initially pleasant. That is, until my wife simply requested that the wasabi sauce for the shrimp tacos be served on the side. The waitress insisted that this was a substitution, and that they don't allow substitutions on the specials. We went back-and-forth, and my wife finally said that if they couldn't make this simple change, to bring the crabcake sandwich. It came out without the sauce, and we had to request it. I never got my iced tea, but I just gave up and when the check came I asked the waitress if the iced tea was not included on the check. Instead of apologizing for never having brought it, she just said "yup". OK, so the service sucked, but the other problem is that the lunch foods are "we deep-fry everything". Had breakfast with friends and shared the pancakes and French toast. I was disappointed with the French toast due to having little flavor and did not seem think enough to be called Texas toast. The chocolate chip raspberry pancakes were good mixing the sweetness of the chocolate chips with the tang of raspberries. And a nice crispy side of bacon. Our other friend enjoyed his eggs with the scrapple nuggets stating they were very good. I've been coming here since Hooked opened. I've ordered the same breakfast every time, an omelette that comes with toast and home fries. The waitress forgot the home fries this morning. When I asked why it didn't come with home fries she proceeded to blame me by saying: "we aren't mind readers here, YOU need to specify." I felt offended by her comment so I nicely explained to her that her comment was not necessary and blaming the customer for not receiving their entire order was not good business. Instead of apologizing she began defending her comment, she began by stating: "in the 10 years I've worked here..." I stopped her and asked to speak to the manager because I didn't feel I needed to argue my position. The manager couldn't care less about how I was treated. The waitress never came back to our table to see if we needed anything except to drop off our check. This was the first time in my life that I did not tip wait staff. I pointed that out to the manager as I was paying the bill and she apologized for the first time. I thanked her but reminded her that she did nothing wrong and the waitress should have apologized. We will be taking our business to the many other places, including: Maria's, Doozies, Asbury Kitchen, Browns, The Ove's, Bob's...there are so many choices that we can choose from. To top off the review, while we were sitting at our table we had to order a pick up order from Doozies because our waitress never returned to our table to ask if we needed anything else. The place is cold because the door keeps opening. Service was good but one of the servers knocked over my water and it went in my food and all over me. They had ti wait for another breakfast. Fast, friendly service, delicious food, reasonable prices, and a very convenient system for reservations- they said 30-40 minutes, put me on a list, and I was able to check on my phone to see my spot move in line. Had a great late brunch here today. It was crowded within 30 min to scheduled close and for very good reason. My wife got the shrimp tacos off of the special menu and I had the creamed chipped beef over has browns. Both were tremendous and clearly home made. The ambiance was really nice and it was a special treat when a horn blared to get the whole place to sing happy birthday to the adorable grade school age patron. Had heard lots of good things about this place so we were really excited to try it. To start, our waitress was super friendly and personable, she gave us some great recommendations. The fresh squeezed oj was such a great start to the meal -- for sure fresh! I wish they permanently had hollandais sauce as pet of their menu -- but they only offer it on weekends (and not holidays). We ordered the garden scrambler & the chicken scramble. Both were very good -- the hot sauce definitely added some much needed flavor. A great brunch and lunch addition to Asbury. Jersey classics, some twists on traditional pancakes and omelettes, and great drinks. Some of these reviews are super weird. "strong coffee?" Really? "Thick hot chocolate?" Really? Yes, down the shore I am looking for weak coffee and thin hot chocolate. /s This place will directly compete with the Varsity and Jon + Patty's for OC Surf Cafe's business. I think Hooked does take some more risks with their menu and what they offer, but it's a solid diner+ option for breakfast. We had the best time at brunch here. Our waitress was amazing and gave us lunch menus during bfast time when we asked.
