First, they get busy, so I highly recommend a reservation (they do have a bar but that seemed to fill up quickly). Inside, it's well laid out, plenty of space and tables. It looks great. The service was very good the entire time. We didn't wait on anything and our server always seemed to know when we did need something. They serve a good semolina bread with sesame seeds, the olive oil they bring out has seasoning in it. That's typically not my thing, let the olive oil speak (if it's good) but it worked. For apps, we ordered the fried green tomatoes with lump crab, the stuffed long hots, eggplant parmagiana, and the grande meatball. Meatballs are my favorite; these didn't disappoint. They are large, not tough, and well seasoned. The salad they came with made no sense, but it is what it is. The long hots were stuffed with sausage and had a kick, but that's the fun part about long hots. They were very good. The fried green tomatoes and eggplant were mediocre. Both dishes lacked flavor. For the entree, I ordered the veal chop, and while I'm not sure if there are many other served in SIC (they claim "the best in the city"), this was great. It's old school, but it was cooked perfectly and seasoned even better. I crushed it. There was a side of mixed vegetables and potatoes, which were not good. Undercooked, likely made ahead of time, held and scooped out when needed. A few strange things: they have multiple tomato sauces, and they served two different versions of the sauce on the same pasta at our table. One was chunkier and good, the other was runny and flavorless. Second, they upcharge for any changes...if you want a different pasta noodle with a dish, it was $8 more. While I would understand if they were serving high-end fresh pasta, they're not; it's simply a money grab. But even with those issues, it was good. I'll go back next time I'm there and stick to the veal chop...because that was really good.

I arrived a few minutes before open so was able to be first in line (there were already three to four people behind me at 12:00pm). I ordered Hank's Famous Buffalo Chicken Dip which was described as having: shredded chicken folded between layers of our secret multi-cheese blend - dusted with panko, drizzled with Thai Chili sauce, and baked to golden perfection - served with tortilla chips. I thought the Thai Chili sauce was a strange addition, but I decided to go for it. There was a large portion of the dip that seemed to be missing the panko, was very runny and really wasn't much to be excited about. The Thai Chili was really what ruined it. A bad combination. And to add insult to injury the chips are some of the worst, bland, bottom of the shelf in a grocery store chips. The wings were something that I was looking forward to as they were described to me as "double baked in the oven" and seasoned with their rub (which is a great rub). I should've trusted my instincts on this one as well...if you double fry a wing you can achieve a very crispy exterior. If you double bake a wing you can do this as well, but you need to cook them a bit longer. What I received were six (quite large) wings, that you could see the rub on, but on the rubbery skin it was nearly absent of the Hank's Heat sauce I had requested. I didn't opt for the $1.50 upcharge for Blue Cheese on the side and am glad I didn't. The rub was good but they would've been better had they been cooked until the skin at least rendered some and there had been sauce. Finally, the Hawaiian Pork Tacos: Hank-A-Q pulled pork, mango salsa, monterey jack cheddar, arugula, and strawberry reduction drizzle served on warm flour tortillas with chips. Theses came fairly close to the description. I'm not sure if they should have had a sauce or they just got cute with the "Hank-A-Q" name but they only had the "strawberry reduction drizzle" which paired with the mango salsa was cloyingly sweet. The pork was shredded and flavorless, at least the arugula gave it some sort of edge...also the corn chips were an unnecessary addition. The staff were polite but the food was far from anything I would consider good. Their portions are large so maybe that drives some to give higher ratings. They should stick to sauces, because they do those very well.

If you read my reviews then you know that I rarely mention anything negative about service. I give credit to anyone who gets out of the house to work given the current labor climate. I'm not overly critical. It wasn't his fault. He needs some training or the ability to shadow another server. He just seemed to be a little overwhelmed. My comment isn't against him but the training program. We saw other servers that clearly know what to do. Someone should be looking out so the customer experience doesn't suffer. We would've ordered more drinks or food if our server checked on us. They delivered our pizza but we had to ask for and then wait for plates. I asked for water twice and never got that. Our glasses sat empty for long periods. When we did order, we watched him walk by our drinks sitting at the bar multiple times. He was a nice guy and was trying. Don't take this as a negative. I had some other friends complain about their meals with things like an undercooked cheeseburger and soggy chicken sandwiches. A lot of the meals were fine and the live music made for an improved experience.
