Since 2004 our our men's group have met for breakfast once a month..we have eaten at various diners throughout Gloucester, Cumberland, Salem, and Camden counties. This was our first visit to Chestnut Diner and Bistro..what a gem! Greeted with a smile, seated immediately with fresh hot coffee. Plenty to choice from on the menu. I settled for the Chestnut Skillet. It was delicious, and plentiful. Others in the group on this day had no complaints with their choices, Everything from biscuit, gravy and homefries..country biscuits..scrapple..poached eggs. Coffee cups were constantly filled.. Service was great, and the prices were a blessing when compared to some other diners with lesser quality food and/or service. I love diner food. In a perfect world I would have access to diner food 5 days a week. Unfortunately true diners that serve all 3 day parts are far and few the further west that you head. Being from Chicago I take advantage of a good diner every chance I get. This location was definitely built for the locals, it very family oriented with a menu that hits walls of Life. Country fried steak and eggs with solid biscuit and gravy. The only knock on this place is the coffee refills , service for that should be an automatic and I shouldn't have to grab the attention of the server while they are talking g to one another during non-peak service times. read more

Great staff, delicious breakfast, and enormous portions. My husband declared the chicken fried steak the "best in Pennsylvania or Jersey."

1st time here and was very pleased. There were three of us and all three agreed the food was very good. I had the MORNING GLORY special. Corned beef hash with poached eggs on top covered in cream chipped beef. I couldn't shovel it in fast enough. I am disgusted and very disappointed. I drove to Chestnut Diner on a stormy day. So there's obviously no excuse for poor service when you barely had anyone in the restaurant. Both breakfast and service was horrible. The waitress kept coughing in her hand and wiping her nose with her fingers! I guess she had chips in her pocket or some type of snack in her pocket because she would constantly dig in her pocket and eat whatever was in there with her hands. Then she would grab the customers plate and bring it to the table. Ill that is gross!!! Talk about spreading more germs during this pandemic! I ordered turkey bacon with my meal and as you can see in the pictures, there is no turkey bacon! Instead of bringing me the turkey bacon I ordered, the waitress argued with me and insisted that I didn't order turkey bacon. The pancake and waffle was cold, hard and dry, as you can see the butter didn't even melt on it. The ketchup came out brown, that only tells me that it's old. The waitress try to argue with me about that as well. My tea had particles floating in it. What a horrible experience. I left everything on the table and they told me I still had to pay the bill. The waitress asked me if I wanted to speak to the owner, of course I do! She brought another waitress over and she told me she was the manager. Of course she lied. I told her I know you're not the manager please bring the manager out. She brought the manager out (which was the chef). He told me he would give me 50% off. My bill was $23, he gave me $8 dollars back. I was so upset I just walked out. I'll never be back here again! read more

New servers ( waitress) are great! The food has fallen from an okay quality to an awful. We like to go there because is close to our house; but for the last 4 visits we weren't pleased with the food. We will need to find another place to have our breakfast... so... few months has passed and we decided to give it another try; and the food quality has improved, not at the same old level but better. we were still feeling breakfast at lunch time so we stopped in for some french toast. it was very good, i'd have it again but next time i come i'll probably try something new. the home fries were cooked a little extra which i personally prefer, overall very solid diner food. the host sat us immediately and our waitress was nice and attentive. the inside is a standard looking diner, there's a counter to sit at and plenty of booths. they all looked pretty clean to me, i'll definitely be back at some point. read more

Seemingly typical Jersey Diner but falls short. Here are some highlights: Awful, terrible coffee that tastes like burnt plastic. Possibly worst coffee I've ever tasted. I know it's diner coffee but ugh. My recommendation is that they buy a new coffee maker and new brand of beans. Friendly but slow service. It was empty and admittedly between lunch and dinner but it took almost 45 minutes for two omelets to come out. I think it was the kitchen's problem. And when they did, not all that great. I got a Bacon, Spinach, and Feta Omelet. Not bad, not great, not memorable. Little dry on the outside and still runny on the inside, but not worth sending back though. Decent amounts of bacon inside but needed more feta. My fiancée got the New York Omelet. Nothing to write home about either. In fact, I kinda hated hers. +1 though because I've been introduced to Texas Pete's Hotter Hot Sauce. read more

I love coming here and love the food. The girls are fantastic but the time management is just terrible. Only 2 cooks on Mother's Day??? Just about an hour wait for our food! This is a place that does a huge business in take-out! Suggestion: hire another cook and server for just takeout orders!!! You would have happier customers. read more

Atmosphere: When I arrived around 10:30 on a Saturday, it was packed.  In fact, it was one of the few diners I've actually had to wait for a table.  It wasn't a big deal, and I got one within 5 minutes.  There is outdoor seating, and the inside is one big room with booths, tables, and a full-length bar.  It's not a big, stereotypical diner but a nice one. Coffee: The waitress put more whipped cream on the coffee than actual coffee.  It wasn't a bad thing, and I gladly took it all.  The coffee itself was great too.  As far as diner coffees go, it was definitely one of the best. Food: The Chestnut Diner and Bistro has a lot of unique options.  They also have both vegetarian and vegan options which can be tough to find in a diner.  The pear and spinach salad sounded good to me, but I decided to make a last minute decision for the New York Omelet.  The omelet was cooked well.  The New York omelet was filled with applewood smoked bacon, mushrooms, ham, and Swiss.  I enjoyed it and one of the better breakfasts I've had. Service: Even though the Chestnut Diner was busy, our waitress was attentive and brought out drink refills.  The food also came out surprisingly quickly.  In fact, I've been to places with only a few parties that have come back slower. read more

Absolutely the worst meal i've ever had. I came in with my family and we all got bad meals. not a single thing that we ordered was good. some of it wasn't really even hot. i got the reuben and it was certifiably the worst one i've ever had in my life. just disgusting. the corned beef was awful, the russian dressing was terrible. just very, very bad. we also waited almost an hour for our food and it wasn't even that busy. the whole experience was just ridiculous and a waste of calories. if I could give negative stars i definitely would. read more

Went here for breakfast over the Thanksgiving weekend. The food was decent, but not outstanding. I ordered over-easy eggs with home fries. The eggs were cooked perfectly and were not greasy. The home fries, however, had no taste. I had to salt them and put hot sauce on to spice them up a bit. The service was friendly and attentive. The best part about the experience was the deal. The breakfast specials include coffee/tea and a small juice. For three of us we spent about $25, not a bad deal. I just wish the food tasted better. read more

I've stopped here a couple of times and I really enjoy the food and friendly atmosphere. They have a great menu with a lot of selections; but not so much that it takes you a half hour to read through it. Each time I've been here they have had some interesting lunch specials to offer as well. The food is great.. so far I've gotten a Texas burger (I think that's what they call it) which was HUGE and delicious, chicken soup, cheese steak quesadilla, and a turkey panini. Everything I've tried has been awesome. Place is also nicely decorated and clean! They also have some tasty looking falafel options on the menu as well that I noticed and am interested in trying out sometime. It was our first time going here and we were quite happy! I ordered the smaller flounder plate, broiled, and it was perfect! So light and flaky! I can't wait to go back and try other dishes! I went for dinner one evening, I was seated quickly, server was sweet and food was great. then went a few days later for breakfast and stood there to be seated, and no one even noticed I was there until after a few minutes of staring at a server that was 2 feet away, then asks me if I needed to pay.. I said no I need a seat, they tell me they have no seats but at the counter and I said it was ok, I sit down wait 5 min and no one comes to hand me a menu or even a drink order so I left. if you see a few cars in the parking lot you are good, if you see the parking lot pretty full keep driving the service is pretty much nonexistent at that point. read more

Loyal customers since 2007 and never disappointed until Nov. 2nd 2014 @ 9:45am. An excessive wait followed by a skimpy breakfast, cold eggs, soggy bacon and no toast was offered until after the meal was finished. A second coffee refill while waiting for a "take out order" was non-existent. So much for customer loyalty and we wish the new owner(s) great success, but not at our expense! read more
